I installed yesterday's build (v158) and data is not there yet... The "dogfooding" Ubuntu Devs have it already and it should roll out soon to the dailies. I believe they have an internal build they are using to debug new features.

I hope that is the case as I have one device right now and Ubuntu in is current stage can't replace android so I will wait till those things are present before I try it again

The dogfooding devs are using the same public images as everybody else. 3g data is technically working in those builds, but you have to use the command-line to turn it on, since we haven't written a GUI to do that yet

Yeah... since posting what you quoted, I've found out the how to's... Lots of steps. They don't make it easy for phone enthusiasts as opposed to Ubuntu users who are very familiar with Terminal commands/Shell/etc...
I realize they are still working on building a Beta Release. I'm trying my best to follow along and play catch up.
I've gotten my APN config set up on desktop and need to push it to the GNex. I've also found where Terminal is hidden on the phone...

Yeah, we're very used to working with Ubuntu users, but we're learning to do a better job making things easier for non-Ubuntu users. This is a new community for us to be involved in, and it's been wonderful so far, we appreciate all the support and feedback we've gotten from XDA.

I will say, I've been very pleased with the UI. Love the gesture driven approach that Ubuntu Touch has taken. As a webOS enthusiast I've been looking for something to succeed that as a passion. Ubuntu Touch remains very intriguing to me. My eventual plan is to switch over to UT as a daily driver... Meantime, I'm learning a lot and that's never a bad thing.
Hmm... I wish the RIL would work on the Galaxy S III (Snapdragon). As it is, we can't even get a kernel that kernel that will run an app for more than 15 or 20 seconds before it crashes. Still lots of work to be done I guess. Maybe I'll just go buy a N4 from T-Mobile.

Testing is the most important part of the development process. Without testers bugs will roam free. There are two separate major test categories, kernels and roms. Then minor testing such as mods/themes/etc. Kernels are the brains of the phone. Roms is the body. Both need to be tested and both need to be improved. When you test please do more than just quadrant. Make specific repeatable comments that will help some one fix the issue. Thanks and happy testing

I do have a project i want tested. On the razr forum there is a project call debtop. Can someone flash my newest hardvfp kernel and test debtop on the photon. I believe i got the kernel to support it.

Ok - I'd love to help, but I'm not sure what your kernel is or the gentop is? I've rooted my phone, messed with a few simple things here and there, but other than that - I'm still learning. I did install a custom ROM on my old Hero, but I haven't messed with the Photon.
I do have time though - I work a lot of night shifts and if shown how to do something, I learn it quickly! If I can be any help, message me and I'll do what I can to help out!

No need. I actually know how to install a 64 bit operating system. Lol. Im slowly working on it. Its not a bootloader problem. Motorolas official engineering phones with real unlocked factory bootloaders dont have 4g. So obviously we gotta look elsewhere. Its possibly recovery related or some form of security check. Once we find exactly what it we can fix it. The best way is to dd everything. Like dd / lol. Once with stock, then after unlock only then recovey change. Once all three is pulled. Someone needs to run a diff, or physically cross check everything, eek. Once the culprit is found we will squash it. so obviously you can see this will be time consuming. Way more time then I ever get. I would have to take a vacation just to get that kind of time. I can do the squashing after the fact but atm im stuck trying to blindly fix it

Okay this is to everyone wanting to help. Find me cool patches. Remember your looking for arm no neon stuff the kernel is 2.6.32.9(kinda). I might update to .50 if I can ever find those patches. Most stuff I can manually patch and do, but 2.6.32.* patches are huge and I need .patch's to do that. If you find kernels from other phones with cool stuff please make sure they actually post source. A bfs 400+ patch for 2.6.32.9 would be awesome, so would proper autogroups. Post findings here.

I'm not a programmer but I would like to help if I can. Picked up my MoPho 3 weeks ago, rooted it, and did a couple buildprop tweaks but nothing else. Haven't unlocked it yet, either. I would like to flash a different rom and/or kernel but want to do more reading first. I also need to get the right sbf and such, too. I saw on the zumocast advert on the motorola website the photon was sporting the LTE icon. Maybe a minor error with one of the artists or maybe a hint...

I wish sometimes I had the technical know how to make these things... it's such a great idea, and if it was possible. I couldn't imagine the capabilities.... especially with things like the lapdock
this may just be a foolish hope, but I see many similarities to the current webtop, so the atrix might be one of the first devices with this feature. Who knows, maybe it will replace webtop under the upcoming ICS release

this is native (as in ubuntu runs off the phone interacting with the kernel itself)

The one in the market will mount the Ubuntu image as loop device. Then, you can use VNC to remote into the GUI of the image. It works, but is not optimal.

That requires either a CM guy to have our phone and decide to develop for it, or one of our amazing dev's to port it. Since we just got the ability to unlock the bootloader, It'll take a little while for things to ramp up. Baby steps.

How hard can it be to port CM?? I ask because I am considering attempting to do this over thanksgiving... I never ported CM before and I don't have much of an understanding of the Android Source code... But I can get my way around basic source code editing, if I have a lot of help... So, if someone can tell me how to start porting this thing, I may attempt to do so over thanksgiving.. but don't get your hopes up, I am just a novice dude here...
I think there are some porting guides on xda somewhere for cm9 try looking at those. Im willing to test builds by the way.

Well, I have successfully booted up 4.2 on my Droid X2. I have been running it since Monday, and it's pretty stable. the only things that aren't working are:
Video Camera
Bluetooth
A few bugs from CM10.
I want to know if you guys want me to finish it up, and try to ready it up for a release this weekend, or if you want me to try to fix bluetooth, and the video camera.
EDIT: I'm going to attempt to fix bluetooth. If it causes too many problems, i'll release it without bluetooth and work on it in my free time. There is a couple stability issues I have patched up, and it seems to be working just fine so far.
EDIT2: I'm taking finals tomorrow then i'll have a good month of tinkering with this ROM. My goal is to get it pretty stable by then end of August (like 8/10 stable).
You should talk to Dragonzkiller. He is also making cm10.1.

I would use his help, but I don't think he would be active enough when I needed him. I may get some help from Hashcode if I run into a problem updating this. I like to go solo with most of my things because people program differently. People use different organization, etc..

True. Bluetooth is really difficult to fix so is the camera. Keep it up though, its good to see someone working on it.

Nice to hear someone is still working on this thing. If you have a decent build of 4.2.2, I dont see a reason to not release it. Just put all the usual warnings in the post and make it an Alpha. If you do, I'll flash it and test it out. Good work

A lot of people use bluetooth so i'll try to get that working. I'm not sure if i'll take the time for the camera, considering it's been an issue for a while. You can take pictures, you just can't record.

The first time it didn't even boot, the next time, touch screen didn't work, and i've just been wiping out issues since then. It's pretty stable, has about the same battery life as CM10 A3 but I know of some apps that help it greatly. Right now I can get about a 12 hour battery life. This includes a phone call or 2, texting, some web browsing, and a little bit of gaming during my web design class.
I have it to a point where it can be a daily driver for some. I want it to be a little bit more stable. I'm free today so i'll spend most of my evening working on it. Tomorrow i'll have a little free time.

Sounds like you got most of the kinks worked out. And you're right about the camera. It may never be fixed since you cant use certain things that Jelly Bean needs. Again, good work. Sounds like you put a lot of effort into this. :good:

I have put a lot of effort in. Theres a few more things i'm going to fix before i push out the ROM. I never thought this phone would see 4.2.
I wanted 4.2, and no one did it, so I learned how to do this myself.

The problem is that I can't get data to work for the life of me.
I assume this can be done with a VPN backup/restore, however I have not tried it.
Maybe the problem is that I'm using CM files as a base instead of AOSP?
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know, as IRC hasn't been too helpful.

So you're building MIUI...or porting from the 9505?
From what I understand, CM is typically used as a base, so that should be fine.
You're talking APN additions/restores right?

I'm porting it from the 9505, everything works except for the data/voice. I'll definitely post it if I can ever get data/voice working.
As far as the APN stuff, it doesn't matter now, because my phone is borked. Something went pretty wrong and I can only get 4G access. I've lost voice/3G/whatever. I am going to take my S4 to the VZW store and see what they can do for me.
Hopefully I didn't fry anything, although I suspect that if that were the case I wouldn't get 4G.

Turns out, I did fry it. I had to get a whole new S4.
Well, I got it booted, but I'm not going to mess around with it anymore, I can't afford to fry another radio.
Would you be willing to pass on this project to another developer? I will take it off your hands if you wish! If so, please private message me. You'll take the credit!

I would have gladly passed it on, but I deleted it already. I basically took CM and merged some files into an already working S4 MIUI build.

You can get it to boot by merging the files mentioned in the thread, but I never got data calls to work, and I think it broke my phone. I'd be very careful.
We should start a bounty for a full working port and maintenance.
Miui for the s4 seems like a Dream that could not come fast enough.
