[REF] How to disable "Presidential Alerts" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

This mod was discovered for the S3. I have followed the instructions and verified that it works on the S4 also.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829681
I was able to "open as text" in Root Explorer to modify the original file. Saving the file from there automatically created a .bak of the original.

My question is why would you want to disable them? If a presidential alert was ever issued I think you'd definitely want to know about it as they are not issued often at all.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

On my old Droid X I used to get Emergency Alert System Tests under the "Presidential Alert" heading. They were obnoxious. Not to mention the fact that I simply don't use my phone that way and prefer to get my emergency preparedness alerts from other sources. Oh, and I also have a real problem with .gov cramming this useless nanny-state garbage down my throat.
You want your "[propaganda] alerts" that's fine, don't turn them off. Some people want them turned off and the link above explains how.

That's strange that you got common EAS tests, as I have never received one in my history of owning a smart phone or any phone for that matter. I think it would be a wise idea to keep them on there just in case you are not around "other sources" if something crazy happened. Just my two cents. But thanks for the contribution, I am sure there are other people that feel the same way.

Are we supposed to believe any message that comes through those alerts?

You guys do as you want, I just hope not tax payer money will be spend rescuing you after you fail to heed the warnings.

lol yet taxpayer money goes out to pay for the systems to send these texts out. i don't need a text to get a tornado warning; there's 2893489234893 weather apps on android that do it, along with the fact i own a weather radio that specifically alerts me for it. i don't need my cellphone to do it from the government.

Welt it never hurts. The weather apps I find can have a delay and if a tornado is rilling my way id like to have as much warning as I can get and as many warnings.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

In all the time I've been a smartphone user, I've gotten test alerts every once in a good while, and the only emergencies I've ever gotten was several flood warnings, despite the fact that in that realm of time we even had tornado emergencies and ZERO EAS alert on my phone.

This shouldn't even be a conversation. If you statist sheeple want your paranoia alerts no one is stopping you. Yet you have this retarded mental breakdown that those of us capable of self reliance and critical thinking need to be convinced to see things your way. You just can't deal with the fact that your view isn't the only one, can you?

It's ironic that you mention critical thinking skills because your rant is clearly and concisely demonstrative of a lack of said skills. You may want to study up on logical fallacies because you've relied on them heavily.

The reason nobody is agreeing with you is not because of your stance, it's because of your attitude. Even the people that would normally agree with your point of view most-likely closed the topic and shook their head because you're coming across like a spoiled teenager telling his parents he doesn't need their help and wants to do things his own way.
If you don't want the alerts: Wonderful; however, calling people that see a need for the alerts (or at least understand the reason for them) statist sheeple and [mental retards] is beyond reprehensible.
Oh, and read najaboy's response...then do a google search for logical fallacies. It's like you're just going down the list while creating your argument and demonstrating every one.

Just wanted to point out that this is not a "Presidential" alert, it's an "Extreme" alert, which ARE able to be unchecked by default.

I usually am really good with words. But this thread has left me quite speechless... Closed before the President reports anymore weather....

Don't forget that apple's products states "designed in California" when actually their engineering HQ is in Nevada. That slimeball move was to avoid California state taxes. They also outsource all their work to foreign countries and pay them in slave wages just like Nike, robbing real Americans job opportunities.

One thing that helped last time maintaining composure these people will piss you off some so much because they really will not give a crap stay focused on one thing writing what you say don't send repetitive things spam etc on fb although the spamming did take over htcs page lol
But we need to get everyday users to join in that means educating them to what we know .
Eg on htc fb yesterday people still asking when the evolte will drop they had no idea so getting a large following helps ..
Edit : it took 11 days start to finish to get htc to change its policy and 5 months to implementation of unlocking luckily its not that difficult in this case .

The First Rule of Secure Box is You Do Not Talk About Secure Box

Good Day Everyone
First off let me start by saying im on a Evo 4G LTE running Fresh LTE 5.2.1 by Flipz.
(Love it...other than this problem I am having)
What is this "Move to Secure Box" option when you long press on a text message?
I have searched both google and xda-devs looking for answers and it seems like people are putting this in their roms but provide no information about it.
I received some very important text messages yesterday. And as of last night they were gone. So I find out my daughter was playing with my phone. Moving items to a "secure box"
Where is this secure box? These messages were a key piece of evidence in a lawsuit and now they are gone.
If I cant find them, i'm out 10 grand. Any assistance at this point would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance

Ya, this is some BULLSH**!! Crazy what the government is so interested about... Pathetic...
It's nothing to do with our bootloader unlocks and gaining root access. That piece pertains to the carrier unlocking, which is fine because if company A subsidizes the phone for you, then they don't want you to take said phone to carrier B, and have carrier A no way of trying to gain back that subsidy in service. If you owned a food truck, and handed out a coupon for $5 off, but the individual found a way to use that $5 off on another truck, you'd be pissed. Small analogy.
That still sucks and lessens competition. I own the phone regardless of whether it was subsidized or not. The monetary penalty for breaking the contract compensates the carrier for their subsidy. We don't need this restriction.
Telecom companies in the US are a classic example of government failure. We have a bad competitive environment on the wireless space, and a horrible one in cable and Internet. There we basically have unregulated monopolies that do an excellent job reaping us off.
The US got a lot of things right, but the telecom sector is certainly the weak spot.

Jailbreaking tablets Illegal.
This is nothing to really worry about if you buy an unlocked phone your good this only affects phones that come with a contract and even those you can go online and get the code ffor around 10 bucks
This is just NOT good period. No matter if it's bootloaders or root or just unlocks because these greedy ass carriers get stuck with debt from a customer that does not pay his cancellation fees... Ya right! These companies are charging us out are asses for these devices in the first place and then get heavily compensated by the rest, on charging you more than your house payment every month! This is just one more thing that is being taken away from us...It's hard enough trying to get some of these companies trying to unlock your phones even if you paid your contract fees now it's gonna get next to impossible to get YOUR phone unlocked after your service is done. No it does not affect any of us right now but things like this start and then they think they can do whatever they want next year... The percentage of people that pay their bills are FAR greater than the people who try to scam so this is just another law to protect the rich corporate companies in the US so they can have more rights to take more of your money. Okay, maybe I went overboard.... It's still crap no matter how you look at it.
I know what Unlockable means lol. But yeah, no more

Completely off topic but I feel like discussing this. I just had a heated discussion with my niece who is 16 and always uses my spare SGS 2 over her iPhone when she is at home, because she likes it better. At school she told me she uses her iPhone because all of her friends have iPhone's because "it's what everybody has" were her words.
Apple only create 1 phone. I am SERIOUSLY amazed by the chickens that continue to follow the outstretched hand of apple, like a farmer with feed for his poultry. You can lead them around all day and they never seem to worry about variety, change or diversity. It's actually either a really dumb move or a really intelligent move to cater to everyone's needs with 1 phone. Luckily for them, Apple started a trend early on which snowballed due to mass marketing, the fantastic app store (only 1 phone for developers to tackle with very little drastic updates) and peer pressure based purchases for the likes of young and old!
I am a seasoned manager in this industry in a company called leetgeek and I can tell you right now that there is a very technically uneducated population, at least in my country as to what their devices can actually do. I just wish people had a clear understanding of the options available by researching and learning for themselves before making a purchase rather than following suit from their friends and family. Even when I ask them if they would consider another option, they already have their mind set. I honestly look at an iPhone only for it's simplicity, games and overall solid exterior. This is all some people want, and maybe they don't want to go any further than this and I can certainly accept that. My gripe is not with this type of person, it is with the people that don't know they could do a wider range of suitable tasks and potentially more with a different device but are too stubborn to hear it.
Is Android better than iOS? Well that is 100% a user based decision but for me personally, but obviously not for a lot of other people as they haven't bothered to learn. I can't for the life of me handle a little screen with home screen app drawers sitting their drinking a hot chocolate, telling my business friends oh look at this. I can synch my devices together so I will buy an iPad as well. Oh this is so amazing it's such a cool device!

It isn't in CleanROM either. I know you can still send a scheduled e-mail, but the option to scheduled SMS I believe should be in messages screen -> menu -> scheduled messaging.
Maybe this feature was taken out. There are plenty of market app substitutes, though...
Like a calendar appointment?
Yeah I've tried everything to get it from the stock text application and nothing. Plus I know I can use a third party app but I really don't want to go that route if possible. Vzw always finds a way to screw up something for me.ugh.

No, we're supposed to be able to schedule a text message straight from the messaging app, this is so frustrating to realize that such a great feature apparently was removed by vzw. This must be why they were last to get the note 2...removal of things we could actually use and branding it into oblivion

I've never understand wasting the time to get upset over something this simple.
There has to be 50 different apps that can do this. In the time it took you to type this, you could have installed one of them and scheduled the text to go out...........
As far as I know, this was never an advertised feature of the VZW Note 2, and honestly, this is the first I'm hearing of it.
Check out the review on gsmarena for the n2. It was a business feature for the n2. Works much like scheduled emailing
Here got it for you

And to the above poster, not imnuts, some people just want to use native features instead of loading up on apps. It isn't for us to question why he wants it. In the same time it took you to post that you could have been helpful and found him a useful scheduling sms ap
I have tons of apps, but hate third party messengers. Even if didn't, I wouldn't want to install something I don't really want for one feature. That being said, if it's somewhere in the phone, I'm sure it could be brought out, like blocking mode, etc. Time will tell

I don't see Verizon anywhere on that. Also, if you're reading reviews, 90% of the time, they're for the international version, which is going to vary as far as software and sometimes hardware. If you really want to know where it is, ask VZW, as they made the final call on it being included or not.

To imnuts' point, that clearly says Galaxy Note II N7100 which would be the international one. That does not say the Verizon i605 was going to get that feature.
Meh, most of the roms are built off the international versions, right? I don't see this included in any of their roms. Op was just asking if it was there. They didn't advertise scheduled emailing, but it is there. Odd they'd have that feature, but take out sms. Probably cause one uses data and the other one goes towards their unlimited texts. Anyways I was just showing where people would get that impression. I never stated specifically that it was for vzw, but an advertised feature of the note 2. And yeah we all know how vzw does things their way. But can anyone confirm this feature is indeed on stock sms? Then it might be as simple as pushing the sms apk over.
I appreciate everyone's responses and yeah I just hate to have an app that isn't needed if the feature was just left in...I might just root this thing and try to add another messaging app from another version if possible. Like this isn't a MUST have thing for me but I can't figure out why it's not here. Whoever pointed out that vzw left it as a part of the email because that consumes data vs unlimited texts makes perfect sense.
just you go sms, has everything you will ever need including scheduling messages.
If it really is on the international version then I dont think it would be that hard to get it on the VZW version, but thats a big if. I havent seen this on any of my phones in quite a while, then again I havent specifically looked for it either.
I would think if it was on the international version it would be on the CleanRom or Beans versions that are based on international roms.

thought beans roms was verizon based, but cleanROM 4.6 is international. Guess we could ask in that thread.
I was actually looking for this a couple of days ago when someone asked me to text them a reminder for some hockey tickets they were giving me. Had to set an alarm to remind to send the text. This would have been easier...
Oh hai

Knox/Samsung Pay/root

So it's been a while since I've used a samsung device (note 3). Normally, the first thing I do when I get a new phone is root it, but I'm concerned that samsung pay will require knox to be intact. Any thoughts? Was a way to reset knox ever discovered for newer samsung phones? Just thinking out loud.

The only thought to be had about the matter right now is, it might require KNOX, it might not.
It's not even a thing at the moment, so there's just no real information about it out there.
i'm willing to give up root for samsung pay.
samsung pay is so awesome! it said loopPay works with 90% of retailers, so which 10% of retailers dont work?

Plus their talking the summer before it's live and that's just the U.S., and Korea, that means NOTHING in the real world. Who's summer, early or late summer, is it a update the carries must push or just an app? I wanted to give it a go if it was "working out the box" but again it was another Samsung marketing scheme! Note 5, S7, may have it working out the box.

I can't imagine that Knox will be required for samsung pay, but having an unrooted phone might..
Time will tell
Confirmed, samsung pay won't work with rooted phones
http://www.gsmarena.com/rooting_your_galaxy_s6_or_s6_edge_will_disable_samsung_pay-news-11984.php
how is it confirmed ?
loopPay is not out yet, no one has used it.
I beginning to question... maybe Samsung say s6 support loopPay just so they can sell more phones !
why can't I use loopPay now ? what is with this summer BS ?

It might no be 100% confirmed but common sense would say that it wouldn't work with a modified OS. Payment security is a big deal and massive concern for many company's .

i dont get it either. apple devices support ApplePay at day one. Facepalm.
I'm I the only one whos wondering how this will improve my life? I mean am i missing an obvious feature of sampay? will all my cards suddenly stop working? LoL It'll be cool and all that but how will it change the way I do anything?
Just wondering why so many people won't root for something that a piece of plastic I already have in my wallet does?
I need to be educated more on this topic
Cheers

It wont improve your life..
Logic rarely comes into play when a cell phone feature is marketed as "must have";
The reality is, if you plan on using your cell phone as your financial conduit in your daily life, you have to be prepared to deal with the consequences of identity theft, hackers, and the nightmare of a lost or misplaced /hacked/phone /credit card machine..
I mean I have used Google wallet a couple times for proof of concept, but I am much too cautious, and concerned about using ANY electronic device in the manner that Samsung is hawking this process; don't forget, Samsung will make a commission on EVERY TRANSACTION you might do with your cell phone, so, as always, its only motivation is more profit for Samsung, nothing more, and nothing less
If you are all for that, enjoy this procedure, whenever it happens to come out.
But, the vast majority of us will continue to pay as we always have..
Its just as easy to take a credit card out of my pocket, as it is to take my cell phone out of my pocket..

It won't drastically improve your life, but it's a practical feature that can be useful for some people. Maybe for people who don't like carrying wallets. You can just stick your ID in between your phone and your phone case, and you're good to go.
Also, if you forget your wallet... Something that might happen these days considering how everyone has their phone with them no matter what.
If we can use Samsung pay with next Gear Watch like Apple did with their Watch... Man, that is huge.
