Problem flashing Ubuntu touch on Nexus 7 tilapia - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am unsuccessfully trying to flash any Ubuntu touch daily onto my N7 tilapia. I followed the instructions from Ubuntu wiki for tilapia step by step. The fastboot method ended up with terminal saying "waiting for device" while the N7 booted into fastboot mode by itself. I waited for several hours, nothing happened. Manual install method in recovery aborted because the zip is for grouper and won't install on tilapia.
Can someone please help me? As a long-term Ubuntu user on PC and laptop I am eagerly waiting for Ubuntu touch on a tablet. Thanks in advance!

How are you flashing ubuntu? Is phablet-flash not working?

Thanks for your answer. I got it working now. Phablet-flash did not work, so I installed via multiboot.

problem installing cmw

guys I have a weird problem, I installed honeycomb foliomod then I switched to 1.4 and I lost so I went back to the recovery cmw classic, now when I go to install cmw (cmw compatible for any folio) I get the droid with the signal of danger so I'm obliged to restart the tablet, and now I can not install the recovery, now someone can give me a little hand to understand how do I install cmw?
The fastest way is to install it via fastbooot.
you have a guide to install via fastboot? I honestly do not even know what this is fastboot, excuse my ignorance.
Just find my guide in General and then look into my HC thread for tutorial of using fastboot and then type:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img reboot

I have a small problem with the fastboot, I wrote out the cmd <waiting device> for ... I do not understand what's the problem
I noticed that the drivers will not install, you have a method to install drivers Folio 100?
Are you using W7 or Linux?
follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119507
you need @windows every single step. Deinstall the old Drivers
best regards
I have windows 7, any suggestions?
however, I want to thank you for the answers you are giving me.

Follow what realmausi has posted. That will setup the drivers in Win 7 and allow you to communicate with the folio when it's in fastboot mode...
thanks a lot guys, really do not know how to thank you, finally I made it through Davvi not as stupid as I thought it would pass, the problem was in the drivers, thanks again

ADB Devices

Right now my phone is stuck in recovery with no ROM installed, so I tried to adb sideload one.
Whenever I try to do anything with adb, my phone does not register at all with my computer under adb devices.
Is there any way someone could help?

Also, let us know the OS you are using.. Win 8 x64 is a tricky BS.. sometimes the drivers work, some times they don't...
for my recovery, I have TWRP 2.5.0.0
I'll check my drivers just in case.
For my computer OS, I have windows 7 x64
I'm on Windows 7 and had the same problem the other night when I needed to sideload a rom, it just would not find my device. Even though I had previously flashed kernels without any issues.
I ended up removing the drivers, re-installing them using Hassoons toolkit and rebooting both PC and phone. It will work, just can be a bit finnicky. I used his toolkit to sideload a rom through twrp.

I hope you are giving enough time for the device to be recognized.

Google 15 second adb install xda. That'll setup adb and fastboot on your pc.
Download the twrp image file from here
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/volantis
Download supersu 2.4 to your device from here http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip
Boot your device into the bootloader and with it connected to the pc open a Windows command window in the same directory as the twrp.img is in. Then run the command
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
(Note. Use the full name of the twrp.img that you downloaded)
Then boot into recovery, it'll be twrp now, and install supersu

adb works just fine for me also, adb has worked on all your recoveries including the tethered version.
I think @joanthanmajh uses windows and doesn't have his drivers installed for recovery. When I used windows I had to install drivers while in recovery mode to get adb to work in recovery.

Hey Vamp, thanks for this recovery, I just pulled this from your github to compare with mine, compiles and works correctly.
What font do you use? Mine seems too big. Also do you know of any other unlocked Intel tablets?

I will have to look when I get home, next one above default, I can't remember what default is, I want to say I used 10 x 30, see if default is 10 x 24, if it is then I used 10 x 30.
I only have two Intel tablets, dell version same as your, unlocked, other is iview and it is locked, I don't know of any other device first hand that is unlocked.

I think @social-design-concepts posted he was working on one, as for me a week ago, I would have said no, complete waste of my time. But if Alexander Weggerle (Intel) keeps his word, then yes I will do what I can to build, compile, port a rom.

Well still no word from Alex, I did go ahead and download aosp. It's way behind cm, wouldn't compile on my crunch machine, so I booted into old mint, it's a year since I used it, downgraded java on it now all ok as far as compiling, I am compiling now, on this old os will take a while.
I still wait for Alex to post his info, I can then add his changes to my build.

Well it appears to have completed. I got things to do now, but will test later, I guess many things wont work, might not even boot, lol.
It's a start and with Alex's info if he does follow through, the rom should work correctly.

Just doing some quick research, if the Dell venue 8 3830 is intel atom z2580 and the 3730 is z2560, it looks as though that is the only difference (exempt obvious screen size difference).
That being said, shouldn't the same method be used to unlock Dell venue 7 as well ?

I don't have a Dell venue 7, if I did I would have already tried it, you may try if you like, of course if it fails you are on your own.
I'm very tempted, what should I investigate prior to doing this ? ... I don't expect a step by step tutorial but if you can give me the jist I'll do some research.
If I can always get back into the bootlauncher I can recover stock roms again using the toolkit, if there's a chance it'll brick I want to do some serious digging and cross referencing. Am I on the right track in thinking I need to extract some things and compare how the partitions are mapped between the 2 devices?
Appreciate your guidance!

It works but you'll have no display until the device goes to sleep and you wake it up they're are a number of other stability issues as well. Over mounting mmc emmc sleep of death.
The chips being different is a big deal in and of its self now through in gpio and touch controllers screen controllers.
Then through in the fact that there are different versions of the 2560 and 2580 chips depending on features of the soc and pin out.
Way more diff under the hood than just the screen and chip.
But yes the basic process for unlocking is the same if we only had the needed ifwi file.
If you didn't know I have the 3730 so I've already explored this over and over again.
If you use this option be sure your familiar with the xfstk downloader and the unbricking process I have the files in the myKIT_BATCH thread

Lost all hope. No OS, OpenRecoveryScript Loop on Nexus 9

Greetings. I was trying to root my Nexus 9 and was hoping to make it faster by flashing a custom ROM on it (PureNexus).
I failed with everyone now it's stuck on a bootloop (Google logo), and when I try the Power + Vol Down button and go to Recovery (OpenRecoveryScript loop on TWRP 3.0 happens)
I have no idea on what to do first, I've tried installing ADB drivers but I can't seem to get into Recovery long enough to install fastboot + adb.
I was using Nexus Root Toolkit when this all happened. Any professional people that root here? Mind helping me with my problem? Thank you!
I'm no dev but you need to boot power+vol up for fastboot
And extract the factory image from google and press the flashall.bat/sh (win/Linux) to get back to stock.

I did this step by step and I fixed it! Though I want to flash to Pure Nexus. Do you have any tips?
You'll want to flash the latest twrp using fastboot. (Google teamwin nexus 9) Then download pure nexus Rom and gapps of your choice to your phone. Boot into twrp and do a wipe first. The default wipe is fine. Flash the rom and then flash gapps. Also, read the faq on the pure nexus thread. I believe there is something there about the vendor.img
