[Q] EFS Backup - Samsung Galaxy Mega

I am trying (as recommended) to make an EFS backup of my phone.
I have tried EFS Backup Pro but the version of busybox I have (the one from Play Google: 1.21.0) seem to have an applet missing: readlink.
They ask to downgrade to version 1.20.2 but so far I could not find the APK to do that
How can I downgrade busybox ?
I have also tried the tuto for the GS3 i9305 using QPST but when I dial *#7284# I don't get the Menu "Phone util" so I assume this procedure doesn't work for the Galaxy mega ?
Has anybody managed to save the EFS on the mega ??? If yes how ??
Thanks in advance.

For this we must have root:
I have already a backup efs.img from i9205 made like this THREAD but changed the partition efs to 10 (see the screenshot). This command:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/storage/extSdCard/efs.img bs=4096
If I have some efs issue I will try the restore of it. (I'm not sure if this work. Take care, the responsibility is Your's)
PS: For i9200 You must see if the partition efs is the 10 also.
,

Ok, thanks for your fast answer.
My phone is also a I9205, so I'll try.Anyway there is no risk as long as we don't restore the backup.

Dont know if this will work but if you have root, install root explorer and just copy your efs folder to an ext SD card?
or am i thinking too simple about this?

Yes, I confirm this work. I restored the efs twice whit Root Explorer on Galaxy Tab 7" P1000 and one on Note 10.1 N8000.
But we must verify the permissions, I compared whit another device. Can be some issues whit.

I had a look with root explorer and there is nothing after the permissions (rwxrwx) , no -> and no file name.
This is valid for all the directories in the root directories.
By the way the name I don't have the same directories as you ??
How did you get that ? Which file explorer ??

Root Explorer, now 2.21.1 version from Speed Software. On top we must put on R/W to see or change permissions.
For exemple: long touch on efs folder, on next window we have permissions. Touch on permissions, we see it on a new little window.
We can verify, change... or ok/cancel.

I am using Root explorer 3.and this is what I can see:

Good, is the new version 3 and You are already on r/w. Now make this:
Long touch on efs folder until you have a new window whit many options (attach1), also permissions (Permissões in Portuguese).
Touch on permissions, we see it on a new little window (attach2). This mean rwxrwx--x = 7,7,1 (my case).
Your is rwxrwxrwx = 7,7,7
(r=Leitura, w=Gravação, x=Executar)
We can verify, change... or ok/cancel.
See attachs:
PS: On version 3 You can mark efs at right and touch on menu. Is same.
Valente

Yes, I have done that already and changed the last part of the permission to rwx (was--x) as you can see in may capture.
But still no indication like yours: -> mmcblk0p10 !!
And as you can see also my root directory is different from yours????

Because I prefer the Root Explorer old version 2.21.1 and invalidate the update of it on Play Store.
Updated now to vers 3 to test to You but I returned to old version. I like it more.

Ok, I'll try with the same version as yours and see what I get.
But my concern was that the name of the directories in my capture and yours are quite different and I don't think that the other version of Root explorer wil change anything.

I have installed version 2.21.1 and I get the same thing !
But I think I have finally understood what's going on: your first capture is not the capture of the Root directory as what we see are not sub-directories but files !!
Can you tell me the path to get that ??

I must be stupid but I can' get what I want which is show in the attachment below.
I have all the steps: mount R/W, long touch on EFS, then I get the options menu and if I go in permissions I can change them but when I say OK I return to the contents of the root directory.
I have tried to change the permissions but no way. I really don't see what more can be done to get this information.
I think I'll give up and will no longer bother you.
Any way thank you very much for your help and having be so patient.

Take care, is not there, this is not the root directory. Is on Your screen post 8 on root you see efs folder. Is here You must try long touch... etc, my screens post 9.
This screen in this Your post is from /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/partitions, is not the root directory, the efs here is not a folder is a partition.
PS: Attach root directory whit efs folder, not file.

I am having the same issue in an app I am building for the Acer a510.
Or should I say, WAS having.
Bad Code
Code:
adb pull /system/app/ /Backups/system/app
Good Code
Code:
adb pull /system/app/ ./Backups/system/app
The difference for me was the " . " for the destination.
It was creating the files on my root C:\ drive instead of the
intended directory. I pulled the entire contents where I want now.
I am not sure if this will help you at all, but I thought I would share.
***EDIT***
It worked until I got to /data/app
There is where I got the same error.
"0 files pulled. 0 files skipped"
After changing permissions on the folder,
everything pulled.

Thank you so much for your sharing On my Sk17i I also changed the folder permission too but still didn't work, but upgrading to custom ROMs makes it work. I will note your solution in the next update of the program so it could help other users

The way I changed permissions was in Root Explorer.
I believe the way I changed them made it 777, not sure.
hi man, thanks for sharing your work!!
it's a really useful program, I just used it to delete a theme apk: I applied the theme (CM 7) and when I reboot my phone had a bootloop!
just a question: why is this software not into the general development section? Here is hard to find it!
anyway, a great alternative for people who don't / are not able to use adb..
see you!

I think this is a bug in my rom but there is no update for this rom give because I work at another moment.
More details in the next few days.
I have solved the problem. I install a lock software instead of the system's locker, so it can wake and unlock.
Its sure the problem came maybe from software or library but i dont give a time too look about it
if lock software work then we push it on newer release

1) Turko V8's fota and boot support android system or i've to use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901022
2) Before installing Turko V8 i didn't make an Hard Reset.. I've to do that?
3) The Osp folder does not exist on the phone, i've to create it? And expecially, how can i put files there if i haven't sufficient free space?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

1.Copy System.img and zimage to phone memory (410mb)
2.TurkoCFW supports latest fota and bootloader no more need to flash again
3.Not needed
4.You can see OSP folder while connecting your phone to PC with USB (Kies Mode)
Thank you very much hero355, i really appreciate your help!!
But i've found 2 bugs (i think) on this android ROM:
1) The system can't see my external SD card.
2) The folder "sdcard" in "/mnt" doesn't work as well. Here, there should be the "common" user's files, like picture, videos and music. But when i try to open it with file manager it says "The SD card is not currently mounted". I can't take picture or open gallery. The system can't see user memory.. How can i solve this problem?
EDIT: No answers?
Dont hit me but i cant get it run.
Flashed the Turko V8 and tried another boot + fota too.
Is there any more Step exept copy zImage, System.img to "phone" and data.img to "OSP". OSP is always called "Folder" but meant
is the "drive" on the "Hero355" Phone? No need to create Folders or rename files?
I just dont get it. I flashed the wave several times and also had the first Froyo-Version (badadriod) on it.
And now this easy stuff just wont work. Freaking out!
Would be very nice someone could help me with it. :good:

apps dont work because the phone id is set back to S8500 (wave 1)
and apps doesnt work with that id. (like mc3)
if its again galaxy s1 (I9000) then we can install more apps.
also, overclock doesnt work with the inbuild overclocker, haven't tried yet to use other overclock apps.

[Q] Rooted with CM11 but how to mount partition to RW?

Hello
I just about got through the rooting of my phone. But now I unable to edit files as i want to. Mostly replacing boot animations and lock sounds and the like. I was advised that my "partition" will be set to read only and needs to be set to RW. Ive searched the forums but cannot find a "noobs" guide to doing this.
Ive tried file browsers that say they switch the mode to RW when copying and pasting files, but i guess they cant change the mode unless its been set to RW in the first place?
Can anyone help me find a guide or help me through?
Thank you for all your support!
I use an app called "root explorer"

yes thats on unlocked mode to RW. In fact i find it very difficult to use. Cant seem to copy file to new directories with it. WHen i select a file there doesnt seem to be a "copy" option only a make a copy which duplicates it in the same folder. When i try to "move selection" it tells me Destination folder cannot be sub folder of source or be same as source." i see no option for copy or paste?
ho hum getting a bit fed up with it all...
Oh....I see.....
You select the file you want to copy by "checking" the box to the left of the file, then navigate to the folder where you want to copy it to, then, using the "two columns of 4 dots" button, select "copy selection here".......

Thank you for all you help but despite the padlock being "open" all i get is "operation failed." The file permissions match of my new ".ogg" , the file name matches and the file is in the system folder waiting to be moved to the correct folder system/media/audio/ui to Unlock.ogg. I know the ogg is good as it plays on my phone ok.
I can edit the original Unlock.ogg to rename it ok, to Unlock_old.ogg no problem???
I have to say i was really optimistic about being able to play with my phone since rooted. Now i feel powerless
At least i now how to use the CM file manager properly even if it doeskin work for me.
Is there anything else it could be?
1) Chill out. You're giving up too easily on something ridiculously minor. If you don't have the patience for having to fiddle around with something like this, prepare to be constantly annoyed/impatient. If you mod your phone, stuff like this happening is standard (leave it stock if you want a completely trouble free experience).
2) Try fix permissions in recovery (no, I am not spoonfeeding you how to do this, you should already know, if not, search).

yes i am unable to find fix permissions in CM Recovery 6.0.4.7
I have three apps for Root browsing and files managing. All fail even though they say they are in RW mode. I guess this "permissions" is the wau to go. I am not asking to be spoon fed folks just pointed in the right direction...:good:
You might need to check that your apps have root access in developer options within settings.......
I'm assuming you *have* got developer options enabled.....
Sent from my Markox powered KitKatted S2
Ok ive checked. RootBrowser has full superuser access, not sure if this is same as developer access. It says it has the read/write ability and this can be potentially dangerous indicated by "#" in the about app system info. Assume that's full user access.I can rename files in the system folder and i can allegedly delete them. I am unable to paste new ones into the folder however. I can change permissions of files, without full access would I not be able to do these things?
It would *appear* that you have full root access, but it's best to cover all the possibilities......
So, enable developer options, then if that doesn't work, go to recovery and try wiping cache and dalvic.....
If none of the above helps, then I really don't know what else to suggest..... Other than re flashing the ROM.........
Sent from my Markox powered KitKatted S2
Sorry developer options are enabled and USB debugging right fro the word go. i.e straight after flashing ROM. I wiped the cache and delvic before flashing the ROM.
Guess its a full back up and start again sigh.
Thanks for all your help guess my case is just one of those that gets fixed by "switch it off and on again" if you know what I mean
Of course for a noob complete backup and restore if just as daunting as the first time!

holly crap...already got system dump for Tab S? how did you get that?:good:
First of all, thank you for this little mod. It's a pretty one ;]
Second: I use Note 12.2, I know it's 10.1 thread, however i followed the link in 12.2's topic, also i think this might be important for other 2014 Note's users as well, as the devices hardware is almost equal. See below for details.
So... Flashable zip DOES NOT work out-of-the-box on my SM-P905 (Note Pro 12.2 LTE / Qualcomm cpu based) running stock (but: deodexed, rooted, heavily debloated...) 4.4.2 firmware.
Boot animation does not show up at all, there is only Tab S booting sound in background, but tablet keeps displaying bootloader screen all the time, until Android is booted (it does not cause bootloop, fortunately).
After running bootanimation binary thru terminal the animation does not show, too (and it showed up on a genuine config!), and the shell outputs some warnings about unoptimized libraries to stderr.
In my opinion, there might be some difference between exynos/mali and qualcomm/adreno libraries/binaries (there are A LOT of differences related to other system components and even system structure itself...), and the ones provided within a zip do not comply with qualcomm hardware/other system components, resulting in lack of graphics. I bet it's a library file, as it has different size (it is... 4 bytes smaller on stock rom), although I didn't compare the binaries size... Please note that it is possible that the issue MAY apply to P605 users too, as well as other LTE/qcom tabs (note thet this is only a guess, based on my own experiences...). It would be a good idea to provide some backup/restore solution or at least tutorial, until further tests on LTE devices are made; fortunately, I have backed up all the essential files, ie. media components, lib and binaries before flashing your zip, but if someone didn't, he may be forced to flash system image/restore whole system nand backup to revive the bootanim back to life...
And what's important, the fix for the lack of display is more than simple. I have restored /system/lib and /system/bin stuff back to my stock ones, leaving only provided Tab S stuff in /system/media dir. After rebooting... voila! It works!
Quick summary: at least on Note 12.2 LTE, swapping /system/media files only is enough to make Tab S bootanim work. Moreover, swapping /system/bin and lib files breaks the bootanimation visual output.
I have a question, also. I wonder if there are any differences in Tab S charging screen (the one that shows up when device is connected to charger but powered off) and if so, are you able to provide necessary files (AFAIR the charging "animation" is triggered by playlpm binary + some other /system/media files, but not sure here, too).
Thank you for your patience.

Hi
I dont have custom recovery for flashing. Do i just copy and paste the 3 system/media files (after backing up original files) and then reboot? If not, could you please post the necessary system files for copy and pasting? I am using P605 LTE.
Thanks

At least on P905 (the same hardware as P605), overwriting /system/media files with the ones manually extracted from the (flashable) zip file is absolutely working fine and the old bootanim will be replaced by a new one. Just don't forget to check if the file permissions weren't messed up during the operation (644 are a good ones...).
Offtopic: Ofc you shall perform changes to system, so nand backup is still recommended. If you do not want to keep custom recovery during everyday use for any reason, but you have the possibility of flashing it when needeed, at least temporarily for a time needed to restore backup, you may want to check out Onandroid Backup solution (look for it @ xda/GPlay), which lets you creating both cwm and twrp compatibile nand backups directly from Android booted up and running.
Thanks!

It works, best way is to extract the zip then paste the parts under system--> media---> and overwrite then change permissions and you are good to go. I did it for note 12.2

Hi, it seems like this version of Magisk doesn't let you enable Magiskhide, am I right ?
(I'm on Realme UI 2.0 - Android 11) , is there a way to use my banking apps, Google Pay, etc.?
Thanks
This worked well.
Didn't work first time, but then I updated magisk to the latest version and it worked perfectly, whereas it was stopping before that.
Hey guys! Last root I did was on android 4.1 and I don't really know how to do it. I have Realme with C.05 soft. Will someone guide me?
Hi guys
This root is worked on europe version? Im from Slovakia. Rmx2202gdpr 11.a.17 .Thank you

Hello. Is it possible to install this driver on Linux?
I could root a European RMX2202_11_a.17 this way.
First I checked OEM unlock in developer options.
The most difficult part is getting into bootloader. I used a program DeepTesting_realme-release_20210426_newID_signed.apk for this, which I had from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-twrp-2022-02-21.4381727/page-3#post-86279181, I believe.
Hereafter I did under Linux the same as the batch files:
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
Hereafter an automatic reinstall
Reenabling development options and USB debugging.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
In bootloader:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp/twrp11.img
Change the language.
Uploaded a recent version of magisk renamed to zip to tmp
Code:
adb push Magisk-v24.3.zip /tmp
Pressed install in twrp and selected this file.
Hereafter reboot to system.
EDIT:
After the update to Android12 RMX2202_11_C.05, I could root it the same way using twrp/twrp12.img.
You can just press Cancel when asked for a password.
EDIT2:
After the last update RMX2202_11.C.16_1160_202204192320.44.7636e18c (for which I didn't remove root), the above method didn't work anymore.
fastboot boot twrp/twrp12.img
resulted in a black screen. I could adb in to recovery, but
/bin/twrp install /sbin/Magisk.zip
gave the following message:
TWRP does not appear to be running. Waiting for TWRP to start . . .
Press CTRL + C to quit.
EDIT3:
Booting the same way from the recovery I found here https://droidfilehost.com/download/download-realme-gt-5g-rmx2202-twrp-recovery-file/ worked. The only problem is that it is Chinese so you have to guess what to do.
EDIT4:
After the update to RMX2202_11.C.20_1200_202207201946.44.84bc864c, this method still works (when the bootloader is unlocked):
adb reboot bootloader
#WAIT
fastboot boot recovery.img
#WAIT
adb push Magisk-v25.2.zip /tmp
adb shell /bin/twrp install /tmp/Magisk-v25.2.zip
adb reboot
EDIT5:
Also works with RMX2202_11.C.27.
Rooted my device successfully but the banking apps not working. Is there any way to make it work magisk hide??
If you are using Magisk 24.3, you have to add the banking app to the DenyList. Go to Magisk settings. Turn on Zygisk and Enforce DenyList and add banking app to Configure DenyList.

Magisk is made so that it leaves /system intact and can be better hidden, but you can create files that replace existing ones. If in Magisk setting you check 'Systemless hosts', such a replacement file is created (which takes effect after reboot). How this is done you can see in /data/adb/modules
If you want to change more files, you can imitate this.
To change /etc/mkshrc I have created:
/data/adb/modules/mkshrc/system/etc/mkshrc
/data/adb/modules/mkshrc/module.prop
mkshrc is the replacement file
In module.prop I put:
id=mkshrc
name=mkshrc
version=1.0
versionCode=1
author=I
description=mkshrc edit

The files in /data/adb/modules are taken in place of the original files. So if you open /system/etc/mkshrc, /data/adb/modules/mkshrc/system/etc/mkshrc is opened instead.
So if you want to edit /etc/mkshrc you copy /etc/mkshrc to /data/adb/modules/mkshrc/system/etc/mkshrc and then you edit it. If you have rebooted after it's creation, you can edit /etc/mkshrc. In reality, you will be editing /data/adb/modules/mkshrc/system/etc/mkshrc because if you open /etc/mkshrc, in reality /data/adb/modules/mkshrc/system/etc/mkshrc will be opened. Without much consequences you can try it out with /etc/mkshrc.
I have never modified /system/build.prop, but you should probably do the same.
Copy the original /system/build.prop to /data/adb/modules/amodulename/system/build.prop
After reboot, you can edit /system/build.prop because /data/adb/modules/amodulename/system/build.prop is opened instead of the original file.

You can't add files to /system, only replace files with your own. Something like: open is intercepted, but the directory structure is left intact. So, if you add something you have to use the name of something that already existed.
I don't understand you problem after removing the module. Did you reboot afterwards?
You can always reinstall Magisk.

You said that we have to put files in /data/adb/modules so that it can reflect in system
So I like to make one app to place in system /app
(eg: Like in older version of android we mangae to do that directly cause their system is rw)
(From this my apps stop working)
So I manually remove the folder from the modules then reboot
But it didn’t fix how it used to be
