Ubuntu edge on Verizon? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I just put down my $600, and didn't even think to whether it will be Verizon comparable... Any idea's. Is that duel LTE antenna our saving grace?
Sent from my rooted SCH-I545 running CM 10.1 using xda app-developers app

Your saving grace might be the fast it is dual LTE but the page didn't say what bands. Hopefully with Verizon joining the canonical advisory group, UE will be one of Verizon's first LTE only devices

They just added another Perk, if you missed the 600$ perk

Hopefully this is a good sign right here. I got in on the $600 deal too.

Freaking Awesome, I know I read it would only be available for gsm networks, meaning ATT and Tmobile. As soon as i gave 600$ i emailed them asking if it was possible to ship phone for the Verizon network and I have yet to hear a response.

I think the biggest issue will be that alot of the telephone parts for CDMA carriers are closed sourced. This maybe a road block for it like it was for the few CDMA nexus devices and why there have not been any more.
Wayne Tech Nexus

My only concern is that given Verizon's attitude towards nexus devices this one would also be treated as such. Unless they make a deal where this would be a sort of trial run device and Ubuntu would be the one that does all the updates outside of Verizon.

See that's where you run into the issue. Alot of the phone related stuff is proprietary software. And Ubuntu had a habit of open sourcing everything it can. It would also require a completely separate device. That is why most fully open devices are GSM only. As well as GSM being used by 90% of the world. Until Verizon starts using GSM it is gonna be hard on the open source community

Disappointing news.

Hmm, well this sucks. I'm on Verizon in the US. I wonder why the Engadget article would list Verizon as a supported carrier if it's not going to be compatible with CDMA in the US? Isn't that essentially what runs Verizon's network?
I contributed to the $625 perk this morning. Wondering if I need to start the refund process?

Verizon should be adding VoLTE to their network soonish... when they make this change is their a slim possibility of using this phone with their network?

Well if the LTE radios support band 13 and 4 (AWS) then the LTE should be able to work but thats not to say that Verizon won't block the device completely. I'm still going to maintain my pledge and see what comes as far as development. Worst comes to worse I will just return the device or use it on wifi only.

Well Mark Shuttleworth will be available for and Q&A today.

It states very clearly here - http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge that Verizon LTE will be supported. So, when Verizon switches to VoLTE, which is supposed to be sometime in 2014, UE will be an option.

Which means nothing. As long as CDMA devices still use closed sourced files you can forget about it. Maybe some day they will join the rest of the world and ditch the out dated systems.

Once Verizon deploys VOLTE, it will have to accept any device capable of VOLTE on it's network. Same reason why the new Nexus 7 will work with Verizon LTE, even without CDMA radios.

Metro PCS S5

Metro PCS just announced the S5 without contract for $649.99. Since Metro PCS is now owned by T-Mobile I would assume that their S5 is the same as the T-Mobile S5 with the same LTE bands. Does anybody know this for sure. I am out of town and can't get to a Metro PCS store or a Best Buy to confirm.
I was actually wondering the same thing myself and have looked into it. Here's what I've come up with.
T-Mobile - http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G900TZKATMB
MetroPCS - http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G900TRKATMB
They are both listed as having the same bands and it seems implied they both fall under the SM-G900T. For rooting though it is listed separately as the SM-G900T1.
http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
That said, perhaps someone can explain any possible differences.
On a side note since I'm trying to figure out which one to buy here is a comparison I've come up with:
tmobile - 720 after tax - unlock after 40 days - 50 per month cheapest
metropcs - 700 after tax - unlock after 90 days - 40 per month cheapest
Thanks for the info. Now the question is which way to go.

I have a TMO Note 3 that works great on ATT after entering the unlock code.
This looks like a good way to get a device on ATT and not have to wait possibly forever LOL for the exploit/root/unlock bootloader, etc.

Have one here, requested unlock code from cellunlocker.net. Got an email about 3 hours later that there's a delay and they need to check an alternative database.
I've read it's TMO and indeed it has wifi calling. As long as there are no issues with the unlock code (crosses fingers) I believe this should be a go just like my TMO note 3 on ATT. Have no problems using it whatsoever.
Updating in case anyone is interested.
Got my unlock code about three hours after yesterday's post.
Was able to unlock using deepfreeze code first, then network unlock code afterward!
I called ATT to switch a nano sim to a micro sim and mistakenly gave them the (Metro PCS) S5 IEMI! Don't do this as it will prevent LTE from working. I asked the associate if I could switch IEMIs and she said sure. I gave her the IEMI of my M8, restarted the phone and LTE is now working.
Just flashed TWRP and the Alliance Rom about an hour ago.
Running fine on ATT here with unlocked bootloader.
So if you're on ATT and want an S5 with an unlocked bootloader, this is probably the cheapest option outside of buying on swappa, etc.
I checked the APN settings in Google hangouts and it shows METROPCS as the selected APN, even though I am on a T MOBILE S5 And service.
What's weird is I never set up any APNs since having the phone so it must have came with those settings preinstalled.

What's the model number of the MetroPCS S5?
So I got a metro PCs phone unlocked it at https://www.unlocklocks.com/
And now I have it on T-Mobile no problems what so ever
I used hangouts for SMS so the apns where there already
And in order to enable the built in hotspot without root I went into wireless connections and added the APN for T-Mobile by copying everything as it was on my note 3, and just like that hotspot is activated

[Q] Can I Flash an AT&T Rom to Get LTE?

Newbie here.....
I have a Verizon LG G3 that I am using with AT&T.
It works well but a couple of issues I'd like to address.
1) I only get H+ and would like to get LTE
2) I am having issues with sending & receiving mms messages where the pictures wont send if I'm on WiFi but send fine when I'm on the data network.
Is there any way to correct/ improve these issues?
Can I flash the stock AT&T rom on the Verizon phone and would it work?
Any help and/ or enlightenment is greatly appreciated.

I have the correct ATT apns and when I receive a MMS I have to turn off WiFi in order to download the picture. It has something to do with the phone
You will get LTE off AT&T (and T-Mobile) if they are using Band4 in your current area. In some areas they use a different band, maybe band 21 - I can't remember offhand. Our VS985 cannot use band21, it uses band 4 and band 13 for LTE though.
It has been figured out that it is also possible to enable Band3 LTE on the VS985, but that is only going to help in other countries, particularly France.

I recently went through this. I was assured from att that I would get lte. Well, after days of trouble shooting with att and trying different hacks I could only get h+
I even went right next to a strong att tower area and still could not. For mms the only way I could get it to work was by using textra, which had a fix for mms by turning off wifi.
What I have learned is that there are some att bands that are locked out in the Verizon phone. There was an xda post that almost had it figured out but nobody could get it working.
H+ is pretty fast by the way, but I was unsatisfied so I am back on Verizon.
And also, do not ever flash anything other than a Verizon rom and radio.

Did you make sure Band 4 was supported in your area? I know that's the only LTE band that is supported by the Verizon G3 variant.
The VErizon version uses only the Verizon modem (radio) firmware. It does not and cannot enable the ATT LTE bands.. Just so happens that one band is the same. For the rest you are out of luck. Read this for more information.

Will an unlocked T-Mobile LG v10 work with a Verizon sim card?

Topic.
I know the reverse is true. Verizon LG v10 comes unlocked and putting in a T-Mobile sim card works. I have heard people having small issues with 4G LTE calls or extra battery usage, but everything works as both phones share all the same bands except for one.
I love the LG v10, but not having root is driving me a little mad. I've never not had a rooted phone since I got my first smartphone the original Motorola Droid with the slide-out keyboard (and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon on the Verizon version, if ever). Although LG has a TON of customization stock, I miss the little extras root gives you. At this point I'd be fine with just root access and not even worry about custom roms or kernels.
I'd like to sell my Verizon LG v10 and buy the T-mobile LG v10 H901 so I can have the best of both worlds.

If I'm not mistaken, Verizon runs on CDMA and lte, tmo is GSM and lte... But most phone now by law must run on all available technologies... Bandwidth might be off a little, but for the most part have to be compatible... This is why, when in network settings, it gives options for CDMA, even though tmobile can't use it... It all has to do with the deregulation of cell service laws they passed a few years back... In layman's terms, they have to allow phones and networks to be compatible (1) for e911 services, and (2) for phone and carrier portability.

Zdeuce2, WCDMA is not the same as CDMA. It is a 3G technology used on GSM networks. The CDMA equivalent is (was?)EV-DO and later, SV-DO.
Unless Verizon has moved on from CDMA as a whole for voice (they might have, I'm not sure) then compatibility will be questionable.
@ZDeuce2, what @LvDisturbed1 said.
WCDMA has nothing to do with Verizon's CDMA. WCDMA is one of the signaling technologies within the UMTS specification, old-school 3G stuff.
In the context of the radio mode selector on our phone, "WCDMA" denotes UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+/HSPA+DC (basically anything that isn't GSM+GPRS/EDGE or LTE).
In other words, the selector values can be thought of as 2G ("GSM"), 3G ("WCDMA"), 4G ("LTE").

The answer is yes, a T-Mobile LG V10 will work on Verizon. However, Verizon actively black lists any phone that is not purchased directly through Verizon. Purchasing an iPhone at an Apple store often runs into this exact same issue. Verizon's poorly trained customer service reps are unaware that Verizon has transitioned to all calls, text and data across LTE in major cities and most outlying areas and insists that the T-Mobile H901 must run on CDMA to connect (false), H901 is not compatible simply because the Verizon employee is told to say so by corporate.
I had filed a complaint with the FCC. Verizon issued a generic response saying that all of "Verizon's" phones are unlocked from purchase and that only approved Verizon devices will function on their network. The FCC was satisfied with this generic response and closed the case. If the FCC continues to receive these complaints, eventually they will make a move in our favor.

No, it is not possible, because the T-mobile variant does not have CDMA modem/radio.
Not possible, as others have stated, if it was a Verizon on T-mobile yes because it has both CDMA & GSM radios, T-mobile variant is lacking that CDMA radio.

Samsung Galaxy Note8 USA Carrier Unlocked - General Thread (SM-N950UZKAXAA)

I think the carrier unlocked Snapdragon Note8 is the best option for people in the USA, more specifically people using CDMA carriers.
From what I undersand you can use your hotspot as a normal feature without any additional fees, without root.
No bloatware is installed including carrier specific apps, eg. Verizon Voicemail. I don't know if the missing bloatware will be available to download from the Playstore.
You lose Wi-Fi calling features because it has it's own firmware, with the exception of T-Mobile.
From what I understand you can ODIN your carriers firmware to gain all the missing carrier specific features and bloat but you will probably lose the free hotspot. I don't know if you can go back to the unlocked firmware after that.
If I'm missing anything or have any errors please comment and let me know! :highfive:
ALSO NO ROOT
which makes it useless to me

Not actually true on T-Mobile: Wi-Fi Calling works on T-Mobile with the unlocked firmware. Apparently other carriers are more strict and limit it to their specific firmwares though.

I just woke up from the nightmare of the unlocked version, which I had dreamed of for years. Even though I called Samsung and Verizon in advance, they both assured me wifi calling would work. It did NOT, and Samsung tech told me just yesterday they had just become aware of that shortcoming, and it only pertains to Verizon customers. Works on all other carriers. In addition, no Verizon visual voicemail, although there are other, less desirable options in the Playstore. However, there was no notification received if I had any incoming voicemail messages. It just added up to too many things, and I had to compromise my firm stand on an unlocked phone. Too many cons to offset the pros. People on other networks than Verizon might not mind, or those not requiring wifi calling. Sent phone back and will have to get Verizon version. Still getting over the N7 loss. Samsung, I love you less and less.
I feel like this is the first time I've seen Verizon being supported on an unlocked version in the USA. But it probably started with the S8.
There are a pretty good amount of bugs to be "compatible with Verizon Wireless".

You can still flash the Verizon firmware and it is as if you bought the Verizon version....even get OTA updates from Verizon...
I was thinking to flash unlocked firmware to my t-mo branded phone, but I don't see much T-mo bloatware and some can be disabled anyway. Is there any chance somebody could take a screen shot of system applications on unlocked phone for comparison? Maybe some things are hiding under obscure names.
I hope we are slowly moving towards one hardware, one firmware for all carriers with carrier specific programs downloaded after purchase as a voluntary update maybe? Already ,as it is, we can cross flash firmware from all carriers, what we should be able to do is to just flash carrier specific modem and few carrier feature programs and be done, without touching base firmware at all.
I've got everything working on mine besides VVM & WiFi Calling; wish I could have my cake & eat it too!

Help w/ verizon. Porsche design dual sim, internet works. But phone call doesn't?

HELP W/ VERIZON. PORSCHE DESIGN DUAL SIM, INTERNET WORKS. BUT PHONE CALL DOESN'T?
I GOT THE APN WORKING... but phone just freezes..
I am on 129 and BLA-L29.
Wondering if I need to rebrand to turn on VOLTE for phone call to work?
not sure if it will work my friend. the phone does not have cdma.
So data is not based on CDMA? Cause I got data to work?
Also, before they cancelled the agreement, AT&T and Verizon was planning to sell huawei phones, i dont think they would engineer 2 versions of the phone? Only single sim and dual rim, maybe re branding?

Data is not CDMA - it's LTE.
The only way it would work for calls is if you could get VoLTE working.
Huawei did actually make a different (hardware-wise) phone for the US market. But it's not for CDMA networks. We never found proof that there was a verizon Mate 10 Pro, only AT&T.
I know verizon turns on VoLTE by default.
The phone itself should support it on Tmobile or AT&T.
So I wonder if i rebrand with a dual sim, would it work?
Has anyone tried a USA rebrand from a international dual sim?
Or how to activate VoLTE for sure in the mate 10 pro
So I checked the VoLTE and it’s provisioned on the phone as well as HD calling and video calling features.
Next I checked with Verizon and the feature is turned on? So what am I missing??

did you ever get it to work? are you able to make calls?
no, it seems like the VoLTE provisioned jumps back to off when it connects to Verizon. I called Verizon, and they said it's trying to connect on voice. VoLTE is on Verizon and the phone's hardware is capable.
It's really weird, since I bought the phone after PORSCHE DESIGN store had one from Europe dual sim one. They are the ones that told me everything works. I wanted to try it with a Verizon sim there, but they said they couldn't let me try it!
so I have one plus 5 which has the band for Verizon LTE, it connected to LTE and falls back to 3G, calls and internet on 3G.
Mi Mix2 works with VoLTE with Verizon, the APN all populated automatically with Verzion. But I don't think Mi had Verizon certified their devices. but Mix 2 works with Verizon LTE... I will try to take pictures. another phone is ZTE that works with Verizon .. but it's ugly.

so you have the international version? i was gonna buy one from best buy which is the US version i wonder if it will work different
Late to the party here, but have you tried calling Verizon and have them turn off CDMA Provisioning for your account? I had to do that with my HTC U11 since it doesn't have any CDMA radios. It's a pure LTE-only phone.
