Micro USB Charger Cable that fits - Xperia Tablet Z Accessories

I am looking for a Micro USB Charger cable that actually fits. I have numerous charger cables but the head on all the cables I have are a little too fat. The door that protects the port is constantly in the way. I have included a picture of it.
Anyone find some cheap cables that I can buy that mimic what I got with my tablet?

I suppose that will work. If I have to go that route, I will.

I think you're unlucky. I've got a number of usb to micro usb leads that came with various phones (Galaxy S2, S3, Google nexus 4) and they all fit with no problem.
Where did you get all those chunky leads?

One of them is a logitech. The other is just a generic cable. I will check out monoprice and a few others. I had a bunch of leftover cables and I may need to shop around to find one.
EDIT: Found a Monoprice one that fits. I believe that most from monoprice will fit easily. Going to order a couple.

The hats wrong with the one that came bundled with the tablet? No issues here.

I had tryout 4 USB cable, 3 out of it fit nicely. The only not fit is newer Samsung cable which too fat in general.

The only issue I have with that charger is its too damned short. I am on the market for one longer than the one that came with it. Preferably one a bit longer than the Note 2 charger.

I never noticed, does the supplied USB cable fit perfectly?
I am using a kindle white cable and the sony supplid plug to charge my Tablet Z, but the cable end is about 1mm too wide. I too will be looking for another cable ideally 1.5 metres long, any ideas? (UK)
Does it matter what brand of cable you use to get the best charge, is the plug amperage the only important factor?

I also find the supplied micro usb cable to be way too short. Would a USB extension cable work?

Yes. Maximum length for a USB 2.0 cable is 16 feet (5 meters); however, for reliability, I would not use a cable length over 10 feet (3 meters).

The brand doesn't really matter so much as knowing it is a good quality cable, you don't want some el cheapo half-assed cable that burns your charging port up.
The stock charger fits perfectly as do my Note 2 and old Moto RAZR cords.
I've recently ordered some Fosmon cords that are 6 feet long and should be here in the next couple of days, hopefully they'll work with the XTZ. I'll post some feedback when I get a chance to test them.

Eee Pad USB Cable

I tried to find a spare USB cable for the Eee Pad and no luck. It makes me nervous to have a proprietary format cable without a spare.
Considering how difficult is to the get an Eee Pad, I wonder how to get the cable...
Thanks!

An OEM that releases a device that uses a proprietary cable to supply the device with power IMHO has a responsibility to see to it that customers can readily purchase replacement cables. People do lose/break things and without a way to charge the TF it's an expensive paper weight. I hope Asus is listening & will rectify this situation quickly, I'd love to purchase a backup cable.
I would like to have another one so I can have one at home and one at work. I forgot the cable at home today and now can't connect it to my computer here at work.

Problem with the galaxy tab is it uses a connector that is very similar to Apples connector except that the pin backplane is reversed, which wouldn't be hard to change for manufacturers of non-licensed Apple connectors
http://fatmixx.com/tag/pdmi/
While Asus's cable connector is probably made in house and proprietary
so who knows how long it will take for others to make knockoffs of the connectors
It would have been nice if Asus included a micousb connector on the transformer at least for charging and data sync
I created a folder on my Windows PC desktop and 'shared' it, then in ES Lan added a new server using the IP address of my PC.

Either i wait for a car charger or just buy another charging pack and hook it up to a power inverter in my car

[Q] Flyer Micro-USB

The Expansys web site describes the Flyer as having a "standard micro-USB" connector.
The Flyer I have just unboxed and put on charge came with a micro-USB connector which was different even from the usual, half-squared off, HTC connector. This one has a cut-away at the top and (in a different axis) at the bottom.
I tried one of my older HTC USB connectors (Athena, Hero), but it resisted and I didn't want to force the issue, so the Flyer is charging on the connector it came with.
But is this for real? Have HTC changed the "standard" micro-USB for something propriety?

Yes and no. It is a proprietary connector but microUSB cables still fit in the device. I've charged from a PC already and it works fine, although its SUPER SLOW.

This is not a microUSB cable. It is a MiniUSB cable which is vastly different and does not fit in the flyer.

Not a one there has a cut-away.
Nice thing about standards... there are so many of them.
Also, tried Google/Images for "micro usb" and all the various mini and micro usb cables I have. Not one of them has this propitiatory shape.
Have you got a link to something authoritative?
PS: Cooks? What's wrong with cooks? Do you mean crooks?
That is why I said yes and no. It is a propriatary connector that also allows for connection with microUSB. If you are familar with HTC devices many of their winmo devices had miniUSB Ext connectors which were propriatary but allowed for a regular miniusb connector to connect to it. That was before the microUSB standard was made.

The micro-usb connector is the far left connector in your Wikidpedia link, the one you're holding / trying is the 3rd connector from the left which is a mini-usb.

The port/connector is desined to stop you using the mains charger with other devices as it would "fry" them! This is why you can use a micoUSB connector with the Flyer.
Are you suggesting that if I used a micro to mini converter that I could fry the Flyer?
My issue is that I have several (proper, branded) HTC car chargers which have mini-usb connectors - which I used for the X7500/Athena.
A converter would mean I don't have to replace these chargers.
But the voltages would be the same, wouldn't they? USB current/voltages don't change depending on the cable... do they?
Hi
To buy a charger wouldn't cost much, but I use my gf blackberry charger on my dhd I thought it was battery that drew the charge.....

The Flyer white mains adaptor is designed to stop you using it with another device. But you can use a standard micro usb with the Flyer port. I hope this is clear.

You can use normal chargers on the Flyer, it'll just be slower. That's why their power adapter is different and much more potent for faster charging. And as Jah says, if you were to use the Flyer's charger with a phone it would most likely fry it as the phone isn't designed to handle those power levels (ergo the different plug, making it impossible to connect the flyer's adapter to another, incompatible, device).
The flyer has 12pin micro usb not 5pin to be used for hdmi output same like the in the htc incredible and htc sensation
Meh...I've tried three different micro-USB cables including an HTC variant from my Mozart, and although they sort of fit, none seem to go in far enough to charge or sync. Weird.
.
Need to get this sorted ASAP.
The reason the Flyer has a 'Unique' micro-USB socket is that the charger is 1.5 AMPS. (And is a HDMI output)
This provides enough current for heavy use and charge at the same time.
Do not expect a standard micro-USB to charge your Flyer if you are using it, it will infact drain the battery!
A standard micro-USB cable will charge your Flyer if it is connected to a minimum 1Amp plug charger overnight and the Flyer is not in use.
Do not expect a Flyer to charge from a 500mA PCLaptop USB socket whilst you are using it!
Remember guys, this is much bigger than a mobile phone and even some of them would not correctly charge from a PC/Laptop USB.
Use your mains charger to charge it every night (or as much as possible) to keep it from going below 20%.
Do not expect it to charge from the sync cable (until we get 3rd party dual usb source cables as for some DVD writer drives).
THEN you will keep the life in your battery.
Soz for the bold font but wanted to get the message across.

I've tried 3 or 4 different Micro-USB sync cables or chargers, and every one works. They plug in "upside-down" from how the plug goes into most Micro-USB devices that I am familiar with. Meaning, the spring-loaded prongs/teeth on the male plug should be facing down (if your Flyer is on a table, screen up), and you insert the male end in the lower "half" of the Flyer's port. Both sync and charge work.
A generic micro-usb will power and charge the Flyer. I use my laptop while traveling to accomplish this. When its charging, I'm usually not using it... I'm asleep.

Don't feel bad. I was making the same mistake, and don't know if I would have even figured it out, if I hadn't come on here and read about it. I didn't want to force it, or do anything that might damage the port, so I don't know if I would have thought to turn it upside-down on my own.

MHL is not compatible with HDMI. Unless you have one of the 3 TVs on the market with built-in MHL, you need the box. blame Apple.

There is no such thing AFAIK.
All microUSB ports require MHL adapter for HDMI.
I'd be happy to learn that I am wrong on this issue.
I just got my MHL adapter from monoprice.com in the mail today and I have to say this setup is pretty nice. They have the adapter for $10 and you can also get the external battery that I have pictured here for another $13. It goes nicely with the adapter since it does need to be powered and of course is a nice extra micro usb charger to have when away from home.

The external battery is nice. I did plug it into my View to make sure it would work and it does, but I have yet to actually try to transfer all of the battery life over to the View. Given it is 2800 mAh it should charge the View to about 70% power. The main reason I got it was just so when you hook up the MHL adapter I wouldn't have to have another wire running out of it for a charger and I can also use it with my battery sucking 4g Droid Charge. I will say I watched 3movies yesterday before it died so it will power the MHL for around 5-6 hours.
I've got this one when it was selling for $13.75. Now he raised the price to$19.

Any USB power adapter will work . 5V @ 500ma minimum which is most.
You can power it from your PC with a micro USB cable also.

not possible (without a lot of equiomnt)
RCA = analog
HDMI = digital
so you would have to use a converter

MHL was designed as a alternative to HDMI and USB. There are actually two TVs on the market that can take a direct MHL cable. LOL
The one I got works fine. Here is an HDMI to RCA converter:

is there a trick to make hdmi work. I have bought 2 adapters and both don't work. 1 was listed in this thread as working. Plug in to tv and nothing. Even when playing a video, nothing.

So I bought myself a micro HDMI to HDMI cable, and was excited to use it with my Prime. But at first nothing showed up on my TV! I then tried moving the cable around in the micro HDMI port and the cable can move around pretty much when it's plugged in! Mainly up and down, and only if the cable is at a certain angle a signal is made.
Is the cable supposed to move up and down freely? If I plug my full sized HDMI into my laptop, it's not moving in any direction (except out of course )! I kind of expected the micro HDMI to do the same thing.
When the micro HDMI cable is placed at the right angle, my Prime notifies me that an HDMI cable has connected and the image goes through to the TV. If the cable is at the wrong angle both the notification and image goes away.
Is my Prime strange or is this normal?
I have exact same looking cable(hama) and its sits very tight in hdmi port
on my prime,no movement at all.
Try to use some other cables
depends on the brand cable you use. some are tighter fitting than others. I used the one that came with my atrix phone. not the tightest fix but works until I find another one.
I have the same adapter and I noticed some up/down wiggle as well. However, even though there is a little bit of wiggle, my HDMI connection always stays connected.
I actually just received the adapter in the mail this weekend and when I first plugged it in to my TV I didn't see any thing at all. So I was thinking, "is there something I need to enable on the Prime to tell it to send video to HDMI out?". After a little dinking around I discovered my TV was on the wrong HDMI input. After switching to the right one, all was good.
I am using Accel micro hdmi to hdmi bought from Frys. It is working fine without any issue. It fits perfectly.

depends on the brand cable you use. some are tighter fitting than others. I used the one that came with my atrix phone. not the tightest fix but works until I find another one.

Isn't HDMI connectors supposed to follow a standard?

yes but its like with memory cards n other things. some might be slightly longer or thicker than others, etc...there are variances within the standard.
So it could be me being paranoid, but I just returned my TFP because my HDMI out port wasn't working. I've heard of other people with TFPs having bad HDMI ports as well. Now it could be just a coincidence but I wonder if the HDMI port is not as sturdy as it should be. You might want to return your TFP if your still in the window. If not try the cable on another device or try a different cable.

I have never heard that the size of data/display ports can 'vary'. Even the smallest amount of size variance can make a cable (especially small ones like micro HDMI) not fit properly which is why there is a standard that is followed when manufacturing these things.
My guess is that the 'wiggle' that the OP is referring to (and the wiggle that I notice with my adapter) is most likely due to the female micro HDMI port on the tablet not being solidly attached to the main board. The female port may also be bent on the inside, causing a bad connection. I highly doubt that the 'wiggle' is occurring because of the male micro HDMI port being too small or something. I suppose one thing that would prove my theory wrong would be to buy a different adapter and try it, but my guess is you are going to have the same result.
My HDMI worked for a while until one day when video wasn't displaying on my TV with the HDMI chord in. So I unplugged it and my TFP froze. From then on, I haven't been able to get get my TFP to see the HDMI cable when it's plugged in. Basically I think the hdmi port might have died. Tried on several TV's and still no dice. I might eventually try another HDMI cable, we'll see. I'm not in a hurry.

good OTG Cable (that fit well without harming the flimsy cover)

I got a xtz and like it very much.
Rightnow I am using the otg cable which i bought for nexus 7 and it works well.
But it is not perfect fit for xtz. It is hurting the cover which is already flimsy . So I am searching for another. Please let me know if you know one that works and fits perfect, like charger.
Thanks :highfive:

I have ended up with a few cables not I have found that a generic right angled cable works best as it doesn't muck up the cover and is out of the way to the side. I bought one from China and if you don't mind the wait its cheap and fits very well. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261141894160
is the xtz using a USB "micro-B" or the usual USB micro ??
Hi,
I want to buy an Angled USB OTG cable for my XTZ. The problem is, I haven't seen anyone on this forum reporting an angled cable that fits well and clears the fragile clip cover of the port.
Questions:
1. Anyone know of an Angled USB OTG cable that you can recommend?
2. Should the cable be a USB "micro-B" or the usual USB micro?
Thanks!

I bought a cable in UK.. Can't post a link, but please check www.lindy.co.UK and search for otg cable part number 31947... This is right angled and use micro usb A connector... I bought it from another site, but it is the same make... Does this help?

Thanks prasadm, I just saw it on your website link.
Naturally, I will try to find one off Amazon for the US market. At least I know, the USB micro-A should be a better "fit" than the usual micro-B which is a bit loose.
What i did was shave off some of the plastic from OTG cable and made it fit perfectly. No metal is showing where i shaved it just more plastic..
guys does OTG even work on the 2013 XTZ ?
ive got two otg cables that work just fine with my galaxy s4, but no luck on the sony tab.
