battery drain in sm 10.1 legacy xperia - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I am using cm 10.1 legacy xperia nightly build 20130722 along with naa kernel v3.4.53 that came with the rom on my live with Walkman.....
and I have a big battery drain issue on my phone. In 1 and a half hour my battery reduces by almost 10% that too with only some normal usage like listening music etc...it cant be because of the apps since I haven't installed any apps yet other than gmail and hangouts. Other than this all the other features are working perfectly well and I love this rom....but if the battery keeps on draining like this I will have to change the rom...PLSS HELP ME..
also I read somewhere that the battery drain is due to kernel and not the rom...so should I chnge the kernel or is there any other fix for it..
I would have posted in the developer forum but since I am new to the forum I am not allowed to post there...
thnxx in advance:good:

Try to freshly install the rom. Or just install your previous Rom that worked for you the best.

Well...I'll try reinstalling the rom but I want to know what is causing this problem is it the rom or kernel..

thats because of wakelock bro, you can minimise it by reducing brightness, sleep at minimum(15sec)
if possible try to manually lock device it it wakes up

But I always keep the brightness to 50% and my phone does sleep after 15 sec of inactivity

Is your GPS activated? Just tap the usage graph to show more details.
I experience battery drain on that rom if GPS is activated once. Altough the phone says it's turned of, it still consumes a lot of battery power.

Here's the detailed report....

thats nothing new ... on this rom (all JB roms bcuz our devices arent maked for it and it still needs some big development here... )
but here some tips which i get more battery (i use JV-EX which is based on LX..)
- deactivate sync, gps,bt,rotation and activate only if u need them!
- i use gpu rendering in development settings - gives some battery..
- delete all useless (only if u know which app this is) apps in system/app (fast-dormancy.apk is a wakeclock from sony media apps from iiandskater.. )
- use the apps 'greenify' & 'disable service' to disable useless stuuf / wakeups at least u can also disaple some apps in settings to avoid them to start & wasting ur ram....
- NO OVERCLOCK !
- do some build prop tweaks! (from thread) helps also a bit..
-some (my) values in advanced performance setting's min/max centisecs = 500 ; i set dirty ratio to 20.. also ondemand semms to be the battery friendly cpu governor
hope it helps

It is a wakelock, because it keeps an eye on the data connection - keeps tracking, how much of the bandwidth is used. If less is used, power consumption is decreased for longer battery life.

?!

and i think for media apps like video player, walkman, album this is useless or not (it is may for music/video unlimited streaming; but i never use this and delete these apps )
thanks in advance (out of 8)

The states, which were mentioned in the forum, which I linked to, apply to 3G/HSPA connection only.
It is not necessary for media apps, though it can guarantee continuous broadcasting (and make sure video/song gets loaded fast) and changes state when data connection is not necessary, in order to save battery.

Similar issue
Similar issue here.
I've Flashed CM 10.2 Legacy Xperia NIGHTLY along with the included Kernel (3.4.59-nAa) and some core Gapps couple days ago, and now i'm experiencing some heavy battery drain (Even with mobile data, wifi, gps off). Battery stats show, that most of the drain comes from Google Services.
The phone was going 100 to 0 in two to three days, now it lasts 6-7 hrs with almost no phone usage.
Any ideas what can be done?
Nevertheless, Thnx to all the guys working on this project - I like this ROM a lot. Everything seems to be working fine. :good:
EDIT:
Well, seems like I was looking for a solution in the wrong place and with the wrong keywords. After some time researching forum, i found out, that the drain is caused by some location service within Google Services, and the work around this bug is to switch WiFi location in google settings, and in google maps. For more information just search forum for "Google Services battery drain".

Hi all,
Here's my problem (another battery drain) :
Since I updated from HyperDroid-GBX to HyperDroid-CM7, I'v having a strange battery drain. I lose always, at minimum, -59mA in STANDBY (even in Flight mode !!!!!!) instead of -4mA...

P.S. Why is DSP manager service running ?!

A very useful apps, "fast reboot", after you use this apps before screen off, you will have -1mA/5 minutes even with 3g on.
I don't have any extra service in running, just normal service like keyboard, setting, Google service, battery monitors widget and wp wallpaper.

battery calibration is important. besides, cpu must work slow at sleep mode. it is possible to "Deamon Controller" or "Juice Defender".. you can try.. good luck..

do you know a battery calibration app that is trustworthy ????....
I save the most energy when i am only in 2G network... ca. 1% per hour

Use only 2G, turn off wifi, synchro, data transfer, BT, GPS... But IMO 10% during night is normal. It's not huge battery drain Remember it's a smartphone, not just a phone
is there an app tha will help me to close the action of some apps whene i do not use them ..
for example i turn on the wi-fi and start to run the facebook app then i turn off the wi-fi ..
wen i go to see the apps that running there are running apps like faceboook , youtube , play store etc ..
is there an app that i will choose the apps that i want to stop running when i close the wi-fi or generally apps that i do not want to run at my phone ????

install app "juice defeder". it helps to save a lot of juice! try it for a week! and see! it will turn off ur wifi automatically when not in use, and when screen wakes up, it will again turn it on for you. it will kill apps that r not needed,.. the features are endless

Please stop talking about battery calibration and transfer this myth or joke or whatever to new users. Or its stay with us forever.
Anyway 10% is not so much and you must calculate also with old of your battery and battery cycle count. + our battery is very little but in sleep giving same power like in big phones with big batterys. If you need more battery and need turn on mobile for alarm then use airplan mod. And if you need some very good manage app like you write use tasker.

Severe Battery Drain

Hi...
It's been a week, I experience severe battery drain...
At the night I have 100 % battery, then in the morning it's dead because no power left... I have to recharge it again.. I didn't use it... I just left it with wifi active...
When I check the usage... It show that 80 % consumed by "Media"..
What the hell is this application /services?
Other time, I tried to turn off that services.. But it turn on again automatically...
I did try factory reset, but I still have this issue...
And, a quarter part of the screen (top) is very hot while other part isn't...
Does anyone know what is going on with my XZU?
Thanks in advance...

Would be great to have a screenshot. Also can you check you wifi data details? Media app is use for media storage, DRM content, downloads and download manager. So to make it simple, it downloaded from night to morning and drained your battery. Do you see apps from the market you didn't download manually installed on your phone? Like a game with over 1gb of data or anything else (if you choices option to auto backup it restore all the apps you use from the market on your previous devices). Or did you put any file to download on any browser reboot our phone before the download is finish (Dolphin browser keep the link in memory and resume or restart download at boot).
First of all I would advise you to put your phone on stamina mod, and set it up if you use some apps like Viber, whatsapp, Facebook and etc... It really improve battery drain while you are not using your phone.

Wifi data details? I m not sure what you mean.. but I m curious that my XZU downloaded any data related to Media...
The last time I remember about it, I played with Jive (which is my primary suspect) (in the Walkman app)...
After that, I tried factory reset...and my last factory reset is last night... and this time, I havent activated my Google account and everything.. just to make sure that no account is activated...
Regarding stamina mod, I have tried it... even used Green Power Premium app (they are very useful)...but only after that issue occurred, then I try to leave it as factory default (I didnt install anything or activate any apps)... and as I said, it still drains the battery severly... and this so called "Media" remains there...
As you can see in the attached pics (sorry for the orientation)..

Look at this screen shot. On data usage you can show wifi usage as well. Then look if media is listed and how many kb or mb it used. Don't get confuse by the dual panel, my XZU is rooted and I use xposed framework.

Media is not draining anything for me as well. Also just few kb on my data usage, but I remember I got it on my Nexus 7 as well, after a full wipe and flashing a new ROM at morning it was empty. But the day after it wasn't anymore.
You said you didn't registered any gmail account yet. Did it happen as well when you had a Gmail account registered? Just wonder if there is not a bug with the phone connect to Internet and the lack of an account link to playstore.

BTW, it's been around 15 minutes since I unplugged the charger.. now battery capacity is down to 91%...
It s just standby with wifi active...."Media" consumption 72%
Data service is only around 150 Kb
I just dont understand what is happening...
Maybe battery is damaged?
Do what I suggested. It will tell you exactly what the problem is. Link you to a site explaining what to do for that particular Wake lock.
You can also run an app called 'cool tool'
It will run in real time and tell you what CPU frequency you are running

Hi, I think the reason of battery drains is not related with downloading data..
I dont know how it happens, but it seems that my device always active even if the screen is off.
I installed app called "wakelock detector"..
The media is the service that keep my device "awake"... it prevents/blocks the system from sleeping...
My question is what is the cause? is my device get infected by virus or malware?
Any suggestion to solve this issue? or is it hardware defect?
EDIT:
I have solved the problem.
I reformatted the sd card and factory reset.
Now, it's back to normal again.
It seems that the system keep on trying to scan the media file in the sd card.
There must be something wrong with my sd card (may be bad sector/cluster).
After reformatted it, everything seems normal.
Cheers

I'm not familiar with that app. Did you try betterbattery stats? It should have told you what it was, and linked you to a site explaining what the app or service is. Then you can freeze that service or uninstall it if its not a system app.

Firstly, a big huge thanks to @dorimanx and @acer73 for their work on Kernel ( V2.1) and Rom. without them this would not be possible. :silly:
Disclaimer :You do this at your own risk, Neither I not the Devs mentioned above are responsible for the outcome. Although i will try to help as much as i can.
Here we go, I have been using the Combo mentioned in thread title for quite a few days now and posted my battery results in the Kernel thread! 10 hrs of screen on time is not something seen too often in smartphone world with stock battery with 2G on during the day and Wi Fi on throughout the night.
Following this i got a load of PM's to share my settings / config.
So here goes, Guys and gals, i d like to share my setup ! :highfive:
I ll split this up into parts on how I go about it .
NANDROID and back up all your important data !
Firstly, I always clean install Rom and as soon as i am done, I freeze system apps using titanium backup: here is a list below which has not caused me any errors.
BE careful though, try linking the service name with any apps that you use, i have disabled according to my usage.
1) Accessibility 4.0.37
2) Direct Beam 1.0.45
3) DLNA 2.9.0
4) DRM Service 4.2.2
5) DRM Protected Content Storage 4.2.2
6) E-mail
7) Favourite contacts Widget
8) GNSS Ait Rest 4.2.2
9) GnssTest 1.2 4.2.2
10) Google Backup transport 4.2.2
11) LG Backup 4.0.30
12) LG GNSS 1.0
13) LG Intelligent Agent 0.6.1
14) LG MLT 2.5.2
15) LG SetupWizard 4.3.019
16) NFC Service 4.2.2
17) PC Suit Service3.3.0
18) PC Suit UI 3.0.002
19) Picasa Uploader 1.3.242047
20) Remote Support Service 1.0.2.4
21) Remote Call Service 4.0.19
22) Slide aside 4.0.18
23) Smart Screen 1.1.44
24) ShartShare Beam 1.0.59
25) SmartShare Push 1.2.1.61
26) SmartshareProvider 1.0.14
27) Streaming Player 4.5.8
28) Text Link 4.3.18
29) Text Link Engine 1.7.0
30) Unified EULA 4.0.12
31) Unused aoos 1.000…
32) VOIP Call 3.4.82
Uninstalled system apps totally depend on you , I remove all the crap that LG has put in along with some apps that come with Rayglobe Flex 4.0 such as the FB apps you can see at the end of the system app list in Titanium backup.
If you are not sure,Freeze them ! :cyclops:
Reboot your system and check to see if it is stable without Force closes, if you face any, try defrosting apps you think may be the cause ... trial and error here.
Now you have a nice clean and stable system to work with. DO A NANDROID as this is your new clean, stable base, useful for future
Go ahead and restore user apps and data now.
Secondly, Disable Service Available on market. This is a handy little tool which will disable services which run in the background. Be more careful with this because one service could stop a lot of apps!
Swipe to System tab – Unchecked = Disabled! Apps frozen previously will automatically appear as disabled services.
1) Chrome – Totally disabled everything as I use Opera browser.
2) Google Service Framework
Disabled Suscribed FeedsSyncAdapter service,
PushMessagingRegistrarProxy, | - Users report not receiving push notifications from apps with these 2 (in red) disabled, but i do not face the same issue.
PushMessagingRegistrar |
StatusUploadService.
3) LG Backup – Completely disabled all services
4) Direct Beam – Completely disabled all services
5) DLNA – Completely disabled all services
6) LG GNSS – Completely disabled all services
7) Google Play Service –
Disabled All Games* Services ( I do not like to play with Google play services unless sure J )
Reboot again and check if all is good for your use. We are done here !
Step 3 we come to very basic Kernel settings, Dori has taken care of the rest :highfive:
I donot use TricksterMod or FauxClock and have removed permissions for them from SuperUser, instead i use Kernel Tuner available on market in combination to the infamous STweaks app which comes with kernel.
Kernel Tuner App
Click 'CPU' button
I have set all cores to Min 300Mhz and Max 2496Mhz .
Link all cores - Unchecked
CPU Governor (0 to 3) all on Ondemandplus.
Voltage Button:
I am heavily undervolted - 300Mhz @ 725Mv and 2496Mhz @ 1020Mv -- Be careful with this guys, as too low may freeze and force reboots, each device can handle only a certain level under volting so start of with steps of -25 Mv and increment it till it becomes unstable and now you know how much your device can handle
Governor Button
Untouched - Stock Dorimanx values
Misc Button
Fast Charge on - Duh !
Scheduler - SIO - Love it !
Sd Card Cache -512
And we are done here too! Reboot !
Finally , LidroidToolBox App, Not sure if this is still available in market or not but i have this from old back ups ( try google for it ) , basically look for an app which can control auto start of apps, both during boot and on connect to internet.
Click Auto Start button Here we control what starts up on boot and what starts up on connect to network, so i leave this up to your discretion depending on your needs.
i have disabled everything except the following :
On Boot
Settings 4.0.54
SuperSU1.91
ConfigUpdater 4.2.2
Google Service Framework 4.2.2
Google play store
LGATCMD Service 4.2.2
LGApduService
Com.lge.defaultaccount.receiver.ReceiverBootUp 3.0.0
com.lgefota.permissions.DMCTargetValidationReviever 4.2.2
Home 4.2.2.22
Lock Screen Settings 4.11.10
Settings Storage 4.0.00
System UI 4.2.2
Media Storage 4.2.2
Dual Window 20131028
SIM Tool kit 4.2.2
com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel.....
Audio Effect Service 1.0
Music Volume EQ 2.3
Kernel Tuner ( Used above)
On Connect
Google Service Framework 4.2.2
Com.lge..lgdmsgcm.connectivityReciever 1.0
And thats it ! good to go. Results Below! :highfive:
2 hrs 35 mins screen on time and 68 % battery

How much battery does it use overnight?
With the stock version (Wifi on) it uses 1% per 3 hours, so if it's the same i would be very happy

Delete everything useful and get amazing battery life. Got it.

PushMessagingRegistrarProxy,
PushMessagingRegistrar
These 2 ? hmm those are only disabled under Google Service Framework and not Google Play services.
I get whatsapp notifications instantly even when screen off, cant say the same about gmail though as i don't auto-sync.

Try closing your internet connection then opening it again, this should cause it not to receive notifications. Also try a few minutes after turning the screen off.

I'm not sure about the phone app, but you should try disabling some Google services with disable service or use Greenify donation edition to hibernate play services.

there is no problem with google play services, the phone app stays awake all time, even i dont use it,, the device dont get to deep sleep because of that ?
Any help ?
The mobile data and screen brightness are the biggest drainer of battery life by a mile.
I would only turn the brightness up on my phone when i use it then turn it down later.
You can restrict background data, this one is the holy grail in battery conservation. Unless you specify otherwise a lot of the apps that you have on your phone like Facebook Twitter and many many more will constantly try to connect to their servers to look if there is anything new to report. To do this hit you settings, Connections, Data usage, menu, then put a tick in Restrict background data to force your phone to stop syncing continuously.
:good:

Using that app and finding the cause is a much better option than just returning to stock because it works.

I suggest you to install one or both of below free apps to monitor what is draining the battery:
- Battery Doctor(Battery Saver)
- GSam Battery Monitor
With the first one you can also set the option 'CPU Management=YES' so the phone can deep sleep
One the app is identify you can hibernate it to avoid running in background with the app 'Greenify'
Thanks.

Strange, maybe and issue with that specific S3 model.
I have tested CM, Slimkat, C-ROM, Carbon, Omegarom on S3 GT-I9300 and I haven´t had that issue,
battery life is better than the stock rom.
Maybe you can try to run a cleaning kernel script before flashing if not done yet.
Use the betterbatterystats app i mentioned before to find out whats causing the phone app to stay awake.
Its all good to say the phone app is keeping it awake but you need to find the trigger or service that is doing so. The screen shots you are providing are basic and do not provide this, you need a log from this app.
