[Q] xt910 and xt912 JB questions - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hey all,
I've been doing a lot of reading but I haven't found anything that spells out the answer very clearly so I'm hoping to get a clear answer here.
As many sources state that the xt910 is GSM and the xt912 is CDMA I don't understand how that is possible. I have a Verizon xt910 which obviously runs on LTE/CDMA. So I'm confused about why there is little to nothing about the xt910 being on CDMA. Pretty much all of the ROMs out there are for GSM. Only xt912 ROMs are for Verizon/CDMA from what i have been able to find.
So, my question is, are ROMs between the two models interchangeable? Does using a xt910 GSM ROM remove the CDMA functionality of my phone? Does anyone know of an existing xt910 Verizon CDMA ROM?
I actually followed the tutorial at Droidrazr.com without realizing that it was meant for the xt912 and now I can't access the boot menu or safestrap (v3.12) in order to reflash the phone to something else.
The phone is acting really weird after the flash to JB, the bottom quarter of the screen goes all scrambled 90% of the time which prevents you from reading anything (like the keyboard) in that part of the screen and I get the supper annoying "the process android.process.media has stopped." popping up every few second which makes using the phone almost impossible.
Current system version: 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Any thoughts on how I can restore the phone without AP Fastboot since I can't access the boot menu through holding the volume up + volume down + power button?
Thanks in advance!

So glad this turned out to be helpful forum -_-
Am I in the wrong section here or missing some piece of information that prevents people from being able to answer any of these questions?

Just to clear the air
Xt912 is Verizon ( cdma)
Xt910 is gsm
There is no xt910 Verizon gsm model
So i guess first you need to work out which 1 you have? I believe if its branded Verizon it still be xt912 cdma, otherwise its xt910 gsm

Hmm, I don't know what to tell you then because it's a Verizon phone. I bought it right when the Razr came out. I checked the About Phone and it clearly stated it was an xt910. I wonder if that may have had something to do with the fact that I blocked all OTAs and literally had the original stock ROM on it from when it was first released. I makes sense why I find nothing about xt910 Verizon/CDMA but I can't explain why my phone thinks its a xt910 lol Once I get back to my original system I'll even grab a screen shot.
I guess i'll address that issue later though.
I think i found a way to recover by using BMM to enter AP Fastboot which should allow me to flash back to my old system. I don't think entering recovery from BMM works though. I tried it once and all it did was reboot the phone as usual.

I dont know If you fixed theproblem.
however, I went into Settings> Apps> All Apps> Media Storage> Clear data
Or do a factory reset.
Hope that helps
i was using my gf's XT910 from VZW after flashing the JB update via RSDlite

[Q]Gsm safestrap?

Hi guys, I'm really confused. I understand the differences between gsm and cdma. What I dont get is how we can have safestrap for cdma but not gsm. Surely this is the better solution for recoveries?
Am I missing something or are we (gsm owners) missing out? I really want to try some custom roms but can't help but think I'm in the poo if something goes wrong.
Any ideas?

Its just a naming differ. To GSM razr CWM is called bootstrap.
Cheers
But what I have read is that safestrap and bootstrap are different setups.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
Its not just a name difference.
Safestrap works very differently than Razr Bootstrap even though both are based on Koush's CWM recovery.
Safestrap loads a "Safe" system to the /preinstall partition so that the "unsafe" stock system remains untouched by any modifications.
The reason that it is not compatible with the XT910 is because the /preinstall partition is much smaller than the XT912 and there is not room to put the safe system on it.
That explains it alot better.
So, the only option we have is bootstrap. In that case, how reliable is the boot to cwm script? I just feel a touch nervous coming from htc and samsung devices where the recovery partition was very reliable and hard to mess the phone up.

It's pretty decent I guess. I've had a ton of times where I've entered bootloop, and CWM on boot really helped. It only doesn't work when you do stupid stuff (like format /system ), but there's always fastbooting.
Just make sure you READ through the posts properly, and you should be fine.
Thanks. I feel alot better now.

A safer bootstrap for GSM/CDMA is coming soon.
I'm working on it right now. I'll try to make it available as soon as ICS is official.
Thats great. Ill hold off doing anything beyond rooting then. Stock ics looks like it'll be really nice anyway. I've been teaching myself various code basics so I'm going to try cook a rom myself. Stripped down aosp of some sort.

Why not root your phone? You can un-root at anytime. ICS is too good to wait for an actual release

Just did it myself, and it was extremely easy... I am a NOOB by the way... if I can do it, you can.
One suggestion... READ EVERY SINGLE WORD... then read it all again... and then 3 more times until you know it before you get to it... it will save you a lot of grief... trust me on this one...
I hate the new upgrade of Rogers Droid Razr ICS
I upgrade it finally but now I hate ICS.
After the upgrade my phone is to slow even if I reset it twice, flash player don't work at all, webtop act funny and totally different(I like the old one), Some of my apps don't work or crashes alot, its not easy to uninstall apps like 2.3.5&2.3.6, my wifi & GPS went on&off with out doing anything, my GPS apps doesn't work at all, ....
I like the new look of ICS but when its come to the function, its ****ed up!!!

You should back up your data, boot into stock recovery or if you're using custom recovery (cwm/bootmenu) and do a factory wipe. It's painful as you'll have to set up your phone again from scratch but it will fix most of your issues with apps crashing.

on ICS can used GSM (not in US), how about on JB? GSM (data-call) can work?
You could load a ics based rom that uses a kexec kernel with safestrap or boot manager, but (I could be wrong) I believe the locked bootloader prevents downgrading your actual system kernel

Thank you. Seriously people learn to search and learn to read. IT SAYS WHEN YOU FLASHED IT THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO GO BACK TO ICS, SO DONT FN ASK AND ASK AND ASK AND ASK AFTER YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you were not sure about the upgrade, then why did you do it in the first place? Also, why the hell do you want to go back anyways, it actually makes the phone work properly. No more random Wifi glitching forcing you to reboot to go back on Wifi, no more issues toggling between wifi and 4g, better battery life, faster phone, I even got better incomming call clarity. But you know I should go back to ICS for some bullet to the head reasoning!

Not to argue, but I'm experiencing my maxx on JB a whole hell of a lot slower than ICS... working properly? I don't think so... unless regular freezing and crashing/rebooting is what you're referring to.
btw, it was a complete, regrettable accident when I accidently pressed "install" on the constant incessant request to install the update it automatically downloaded to my phone. never asked for that to happen either.
So, perhaps if we just simply root JB, remove all the numerous apps that we don't use, then it should "work properly"? anyone know what what I'm saying?

[Q] Failed to Boot 1 - Can't reset/restore/reboot

I have really messed up. I cannot get into my phone at all. button reset starts after being plugged in for a few minutes then green light comes on when plugged in followed by, "Failed to Boot 1". Motorola of course shows but phone goes no further. We have tried everything we can think of including, all Verizon sbf's & intelos sbf's. Not sure what to do. My phone is a Motorola Droid X2 MB867.

make sure its completely off then start the phone holding up on the volume rocker. that should bring it into rsd mode. if it wont stay on that usually means the battery is low and it needs to be charged before flashing. however it will not charge the battery in the state its in now.

If I had known you had the milestone x2 I would never have recommend red lite. It erases your carrier files which removes your ability to have a 3g data connection the only way to fix it is to go to your carrier and have them rewrite their files to it. However you need a fully functional stock ROM for that to work. Check out this thread I has everything you need to know about messing with the mx2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2101633
