[Q] New V20B firmware for LG P765 INDIA - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hi,
I am using a rooted, bootloader unlocked phone (LG L9 P765 V20A).
I have just checked for an update via settings->check software update and the phone showed me a screen that an upgrade is available named v20B.
I want to know If I update, then will I loose my root and unlocked bootloader ?
Can I update my rooted phone without any problems?

You can't update rooted device u ll end up on a notification saying LG doesn't support rooted devices. Well I maybe wrong but try once, if u were successful in updating, yes u will lose root. I tried updating rooted stock and LG didn allow me to update.

Need help with update after unlocking the bootloader.

I have rooted my phone and unlocked the bootloader. I am on 4.1.1. I am trying to update but eveytime it takes me to custom recovery.
Can anyone clarify, where to find the downloaded update file? I would like to just flash it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Once you are rooted and unlocked you do not want to ever take an OTA update. If you manage to take the VRALL4 update you will lose root and re-lock your bootloader. For now Adam Outler and his crew were able to adapt to this update but there is no guarantee that will happen with the next update. Below is a link that has the verizon modems if you want to manually flash the VRALL4 modem.

I am on 4.1.1 and I wonder is there much change on 4.1.2 at all? If I update to 4.1.2 can I reroot and unlock bootloader again?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
The only way to get 4.1.2 on a verizon phone is to flash a ROM based on that version (Verizon hasn't done an official update to 4.1.2). I would suggest reading up on the 4.1.2 ROM threads and you can google the 4.1.2 changelog to see what changed. The update is pretty minor in my opinion but there are definitely people who will disagree and are on the new builds.

If it is not official now. I will not be going to roms. But on my phone there is a 7mb update pending and every time i try to update it takes me to recovery. Can anyone tell me where that update is stored. So I can flash it manually?

Where I can find the update file in my phone. If I have it already downloaded but not applied?

What baseband are you on? If you are on VRALJB then the update is for VRALL4 and you definitely do not want to take it as it is going to reload your bootloader and you are going to have to unlock again. As for what the VRALL4 update contains apart from the relocked bootloader, it was a very minor update to the radio. I didn't notice anything different but you can google the changelog for the specifics. It did not contain an update to 4.1.2. The link I provided above will get you to the VRALL4 radio if you want to flash it.

Yes we got the h update, but don't waste your time, nothing special about it. The u-boot still recognizes an unlocked device, so that's good.

20H that's what I meant by h, in my opinion it's not worth it. I was on it for a little while, not long enough to do any testing.
I'm curious about it since the f update was mostly all bootloader related.

Yes, it will fail (if artas182x locked Bootloader cwm) you will need to remove it properly.
And you will get a boot loop with a custom recovery you will need to flash the stock the stock recovery first.

Yes, that is all that I do as well. I have had this phone since v10e and with every update I never did reflash any recovery but it's better to be safe than sorry. Also, don't forget to put all of the apps back that you may have deleted. And get rid of link2sd (unlink before you uninstall the program). And get rid of busybox. . .look it's just better if you flash a new ROM. Oh yeah and download and install voodoo rootkeeper then hit the save root button at the bottom before you do the OTA. Good luck everyone!

Well I have checked my version for my phone personally and it has changed from V20F to V20H but I still have not received the OTA. I'm not going to force it I'm going to see if they are testing and I actually just got lucky with being at the right place, right time type of thing.

Yeah, I'm pretty confused myself about it. I have seen some complaints about 20f with the random rebooting issue and whatnot but nothing big. From what Kuma said it's nothing big at all. He said he was on it for a bit but not long enough to test it. So I"m assuming its still 4.1.2 but can't confirm just yet. I don't want to flash the ROM just yet but if I get bored tonight then I just might do so. . .
Whatever it is, t-mobile has the optimus l9 now listed as having 4.2.

but the good news is that it can be rooted with the lgpwn method. So let's recount here. I found this earlier this afternoon on my web cruise. I decided to download it and share with you guys. Now I installed the update and it's still 4.1.2. If it is true that T-Mobile is going to upgrade to 4.2 then this ROM is probably just a test until they are ready to give the OTA. So for whatever reason we just happened onto it. Don't fret my friends. . .once you get the OTA then we will know for sure. Hope is a good thing. Good night XDA.

I believe T-Mobile made an error. They have had it posted for like at least a month on their website that the L9 has 4.2, and nobody has confirmed getting 4.2. At one point, the listing even said the T-Mobile L9 had NFC as well as 4.2.
It still says that actually. Checked it today.

Thinking about bootloader unlocking

I found that post on 4pda (Russian forum about mobile devices). Payback uploaded there hacked x-loader and u-boot. But it isn't work.
Month later after payback's post Ricardo Cerqueira found way to unlock their smartphones (link). It works, but not at all. Many people (especially with T-Mobiled L9, if my memory serves me) can't do it.
So, I thought: how about getting x-loader, u-boot and other loaders from unlocked device? Is this possible and usable?
Glad to see people actually attacking this. Sadly, I don't know. I mod, but I don't develop/crack on my own. @Lelus should look into this if he hadn't already.
I read somewhere that LG made it near impossible on most Optimus phones. You need not only unlockable firmware, but also the correct driver to enter the bootloader, wait from 30 minutes to an hour, sacrifice a goat, get the whisker of a tiger....lol. :sly:

@thasilenthacker...are you tmobile branded p769? I'm confused whether to call it p769 BK if someone could straighten that out for me. And if anyone has anything I can do to contribute to a concise and orderly bootloader unlock method I'm willing to sacrifice my tmob p769. Where are we at exactly, besides a dead end, I mean what are some/the reasons why we are unable to do what we want to do.

i have a lgms769 its the same as p769 but for metro i flashed the euro v20b a 2nd time and waited about an hour with wifi and data on and sent the command and boom it worked i screamed i was so happy and scared the sh*t out of my friend lol
but i think a key detail was that it came with v10b and i restored a v10d backup and on the kdz flasher it still showed my bin was 10b so i think a key point in flashing is still to have the original firmware on the phone without flashing a new one accept for the v20b kdz then it should work.

Hmmm. Good advice! So I may need to flash my phone with the ROM that it came with originally? But mine came with Jelly Bean.....and the tutorial says that it must have ICS first installed for it to work.
Is there a way to switch the bin I have with an ICS one? This is such a hot mess...lol.
Sent from my LG-P769 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
i have no idea how it works really but for lgms769 v10b is 4.1.2 so its jellybean, you can make a nandroidbackup with recovery and then flash back the original firmware then root and install cwm and restore that latest firmware and when you go to flash the 20b kdz it should say android bin version:v10b in example for me it did, on the console of the lg flash tool.
you can try its worth a shot but that was the 2nd time i tried the v20b kdz flash cause like you might know from villans thread thanks to his villan pack crap i permanetely damaged my old phone so this was the replacement same exact phone but it unlocked so i was happy and i say kudos to villan.co
So you had 4.1.2 then flashed to euro 20b? If that's the case, then it's not necessary to flash ICS. OMG.....:banghead:
We need a new tutorial? Maybe?

There are many threads regarding this problem, plz don't create new threads. Keep your own forum clean. Not all carriers allow unlocking bootloader. I tried unlocking on v20 b, c,d unsuccessful. Tried for a week nothing happened, phone just rebooted normally. Lelus said it not all kdz allow unlocking, y? No1 knws. I flashed v20a Indian kdz and I unlocked in ten min. Some ppl had luck by waiting for 1, 3, 5hrs and some even a day. So try other options.

I tried v20a indian, and v20a spanish, but i always get error at 6% or 7.
I can install v20b or higher only.

Same here also.. i heard v20a is for unlock bootloader only.. i try indian ics also and same thing.. if we can get it to install i think unlocking would be easier. .

it would be fine XD
Please if you can solve it sometime, let me know
Sorry for my english
sorry but i solve my L9 about a week ago..
I think you already run JB and that's why it will stop between 4-14% anywhere. Try getting into the software upgrade mode and install the v20a firmware.
After you update don't try to install any official update from LG. This would not allow you to unlock your boot loader.
Just install Tue firmware and unlock the boot loader.
Good luck

Yeah, that's maybe because you're already on JB firmware. To install offline KDZ in an offline mode, you'll face a break between 4-14%. Try following cmahedra's guide to flash offline kdz firmware. It must get you out of this problem.
Remember, some bootloaders cannot be unlocked. Try it once though.
And check is it all big letters must be V20A not v20A or v20A !!!
yes, the file is correct. I fail at 6% after it says that my phone isnt connected, or something.

Strange! Did you follow the steps given at Cmahendra's thread? Considering you did it well, could you try once more properly?
The thread is good enough to solve all the problems.

Depends I have seen anywhere from 15 - 25 mins. As long as it's not hanging up anywhere let it run until it gives you an error or a success message. You could try moonshine because your on 4.1 and see how it goes.

Moonshine gives me temp root error ..and gets closed

If you do not gain s-off, you'll need to, fastboot flash boot boot.img
Using the boot.img from the Rom you flash.
Then it should boot.

I believe he's reffering to the one in the ROM.zip that you've flashed. Extract it from the ROM .zip - flash the ROM as normal - don't reboot, flash that boot .img THEN reboot
