I think 10.1.1.A.1.253 is an earlier version. Mine was bought about 2 months ago and it came with 10.1.1.A.307. You can try Doomlord's root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333566). It works for me, albeit on 307.

All the information can be found in this forum if you look for it...
If you're asking such basic questions, I'd just leave things alone or you're heading for disaster (and risk upsetting your mom at the same time by voiding her warranty & loosing all the Sony DRM keys)

UK T-mobile G2 Touch, HTC Hero.. Custom Rom help!

Hey there, im an tired to death of waiting for this 2.1 update for my phone, and so tried to install a custom ROM last night, I have searched and read so many tutorials on how to Root the phone etc, and install a custom ROM, but i seem to be stuck... im Running 1.5.. First off i am following this tutorial androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html which seemed to be the most upto date and relevant.
I think i have Rooted my phone using Instant Root
And what im stuck on is running FlashRec.apk It Just refuses to work (backup), so im stuck, i cant get passed this stage
I heave read something about GoldCard? or something, is this another method?
And i have come across more threads about using the SDK on windows somehow...

As far as i'm aware if flashrec doesn't work you need to downgrade, try my guide in my sig for details.
Thats what i thought :/ I don't get it, i haven't installed a single update, and im on 1.5, and i got the phone when it first came out in the UK, so it wouldn't have been updated, unless over the air updates are automatically downloaded and installed without my knowledge or approval?

As you have found out those phones that have network specific ROMS, namely from the carriers named above will find it difficult or impossible to Root using the methods those with non-branded Hero's have.
The only way to install a custom ROM and or root the phone is the following method. As I have had no experiance with this method I am not going to be able to write out any instrcutions of my own, nor am I going to copy and paste someone else's work and take credit for it. Therefore I am providing you with the following link.

I hadnt installed any updates either but i still had to downgrade, and your tutorial worked pefectly
All newish G2 Touches are loaded with a more recent update (although they're still all 1.5.)
This means if you have a new G2 Touch you'll need to downgrade.
I had the exact same issue as you with the backups failing, after searching the internet and using multiple tabs, i finally gained root access, to make life easier for others I created a guide, give it a try, let me know how you get on

Rooting & sim unlocking are totally unrelated. There's no free means to unlock, so you'll have to buy a code.

xperia mini st15i unlocking bootloader

hi guys just got myself a xperia mini today, have root access, and iv installed cwm and i was going to install a custom rom, then noticed most said i need an unlocked bootloader to do this, so checked this with the service number on the phone and it says my bootloader can be unlocked, just realy need abit of guidance of the easiest way to do this. i googled for it and noticed you can do it directly from SE themselves but this voids warranty, is this the best and safest way to do this or is there an alternative.
all help or guidance much appreciated!
there is an alternative. check development section. but official way is much safer.

[Q] Should I reallly unlock this bootloader? (Sony Live Walkman)

Please, forgive if this post does not go here, sorry!!!
I have a Sony Live Walkman that I bought without any phone company in between. (Sorry my English doesn't help, don't know the exact term for that).
I checked, and it says that it is allowed to unlock bootloader.
But my question is, what is the benefit in my case? I don't have any garbage from any company loaded on my phone, the loader image is from Sony.
I can't grasp really well why is there the need to unlock bootloader. I'm new to Sony, I just had a LG - and the only concern was to ROOT and nothing else.
My Sony is rooted already. Do I need to unlock bootloader? (I'm just repeating myself a lot, lol) - and let's supossed I do unlock it: what happens? what new things I can/cannot do/break/etc?
Thanks a lot in advance for any info you could provide me, I learnt a lot in these last months, and with this Sony things are.... different....
Kisses
Unlocking bootloader lets you install custom kernels and ROMs. If you do it via official way, you lose your guarantee and your DRM keys, that means you will not be able to use TrackID and some other little features. If you patch it via unofficial way (test point method) you lose nothing. Anyway, if you don't intend to change your ROM, don't unlock it
Sorry that I'm a bit slow , but what is the "unofficial way" to do it?
I don't plan to install any custom ROM, but would like to try some new Kernel - and I believe I have to unlock bootloader for that?
I managed to root without unlock it, I wish I could flash a new kernel the same way
Unfortunately, you can't flash custom kernels without unlocking the bootloader. Check THIS thread, you'll find useful information
Well the unofficial way will allow you to keep your drm information and you will be able to keep using the track id app. here is a video of the method you need to follow to unlock it the unofficial way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgYAZoqsk9E, the video it's from fast gsm but it is the basic procedure of the test point method the only difference it's the software you will use and of course that it is free.
Thanks guys, very useful info. Just one last thing, cause one of your responses confused me:
The official method will let me flash Kernel
the UN official method won't
is that right?
Thanks again, promise I'll read all those articles now.
any method will let you flash a custom kernel the only difference is that using the official method you will lose your drm (digital rights management) for protected music, the usage of the track id app and any way of officially update your phone (over the air, ppc or sus) and using the unofficial way (test point method) you will keep the drm, track id and you will be able to update your phone using ppc or sus.

Perfectly welcome!
Well, I been finally reading about this unlocking booloader stuff.
The so called " via unofficial way (test point method)" looks very complicated, like I could really break something. I mean, wires? Needles?
I think I will go for the official way., even if i don't like the idea.
Did official method also.
It is much more simple, just on the computer.
You will loose the track id feature, never used it anyway.

I'm sure of that... but I haven't found a way to uncover the test point yet, lol
Oh well, I may be a bit slow - but couldn't do it. Any method.
The test one, I tried, but could understand the dynamics with the program, and got lost.
Te official one, couldn't follow the instruccione given on the Sony site. All those commands (fastload.exe bla bla bla) didn't work, and the Pc never asked for any driver.
I only hope someone could upload a guide step by step, that would be wonderful.
The guys that did the step by step for rooting ICS was just genius - if he could only do this too....

The trick is to use a hair dryer to take out the back stick (under the battery) and then you will find the tp I posted a video before.

Oh lordy, please read and search the threads, you already managed to read enough to get as far as you did. You can install Safe Strap, although it is a bit buggy on MI1 from what I have read. No custom recovery option. Just root and debloat and be happy, that is the best route for now. See if 4.4 can bring some new exploits. I was rooted on MI1, I just followed the thread to upgrade to MJ7 and stay rooted. I am not dealing with safe strap, just seems like too much work for a phone that already works great.
Thanks for reply

I really appreciate your prompt response. As you see, I am a new user to this kind of things. But still I seek the opportunity to find the best sources to make these changes on my phone and be lucky with testing ROMs and the best Deployed Apps .... Yes I have read that so far no method for Recovery, but you never know if someone has made work and willing to show how.
I have read about Safestrip, but I see there are errors with the Bootloader, do you think this could work for me?.
BTW Can you please give me more information about "debloat"? Thank you very much my friend.

Yes, actually you do know, because anyone that has made it work will post to XDA that they did it.
Relax. The S4 is a nice phone as it is, enjoy it for now. Pay attention here at your leisure for any new developments if you must.
There's still a huge bounty if someone gets a bootloader unlock. I doubt if somebody figured it out they would turn down a huge chunk of money and not tell anyone about it.
Don't worry, if someone unlocks the bootloader it will be all over XDA.

Note that these approaches use different flash tools, and you have to be careful to use the right drivers in your PC.
Once you return to 10b, you may want to root and turn off System Updates. There are some rumblings that lg may make it difficult in the future.

You only need root for exposed. 'Bump'ing the bootloader allows you to install a custom recovery so you can flash ROMs and kernels, make nandroid backups, etc.
