[Q] HOX+ Main camera grainy with lines - HTC One X+

Hi guys,
Was on vacation and had been taking good pictures with my HTC One X+ and one day I started seeing grainy lines (green/red/blue) in the main camera screen. I thought it was some sort of interference and it went away only to come back permanently later on. I know its not a software issue as restoring to an older image via TWRP (unlocked/rooted device with stock ROM) did not fix it. Multiple reboots did not fix it. I have had a few warnings previous day that the device was hot as I was in Turkey and I let it cool down.
I've seen a similar post elsewhere but was with an HTC Evo (http ://evo4gforum.net/15-htc-evo-4g-troubleshooting-tips-tricks/8076-major-camera-camcorder-problem-grainy-lines-camera.html).
Here is a pic taken from my HOX+ showing the issue.
I want to bring it back to the operator as its not even 1 year since I got it. The only thing I didn't do was a reset but I doubt it would fix that. However will try as I'm ready to return the device....not happy at all since I have a HOX and the battery life drove me mad!! :crying:
Does anyone know about this or what could be the cause?
Also how do I restore the stock recovery from the current TWRP to return it to operator?
Thanks

Take it back for a new one.

I had a similar issue with my Desire back in the day, had to take it back to HTC Service and they replaced the camera. It worked fine after that

Thanks guys, so it has to go back then I guess I would need to restore it to factory settings? i.e. unroot/'re-lock'? From where do I get the default/stock recovery image? It's an international HOX+ (Enrc2br) with Vodafone (Ireland) but I think its a UK build image.
I've seen some posts saying that the stock recovery would still be present on the device, so how do I go about removing TWRP to fallback to stock recovery?
Cheers

To be safe I would go stock, but I don't think they check that if it's a hardware issue.

Just returned the device. Had to quickly relock and unroot before the shop closes. I thought I'd downloaded stock recovery from a post in this site.
"9/6 Mandatory Update Official Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.4.0".
I thought I'd extract the rom.zip from the UK_JB RUU but just saw that it was for ICS but what I did was, run the exe, go to %tmp%, copy the rom.zip, extracted recovery_singned.img and flashed it. Tried to go to bootloader->recovery but got a warning say that this was a build image or something...didn't understand why that was happening but it because of the wrong RUU.
Where can I get the correct recovery.img for HOX+ UK_Vodafone?

I have the exact same issue, Well in my country we don't have any SAT for htc. Because my aunt gave me my AT/T HOX+ anyway if i bought a replacement camera for hox+ it would be fixed? i want to know before i buy it.

[Q] signal different after flashing to stock?

Ok so I rooted this bad-boy I used the HTC unlock method, upon selection of my ROM audibly was miui I wiped and flashed but I did not flash in fastboot. I flashed in recovery and it actually took, problem is I noticed my signal had reduced to 1x speed. Upon flashing to a sense ROM which is cleanrom3.0 I used it to update prl and profile but didn't help stayed the same. So I called Sprint they tried to work some magic to no avail. I then took it upon myself to go complete stock and rid root. Once the ruu flashed and I booted, I noticed I had 3g I checked prl version number and it was the same as before I went to stock. So i didn't get to happy I still wanted more research info for the cause. I then did a speed test and oh god was it slow. Download was 0.02mb/sec upload was 0.70mb/sec strange that upload was faster. But now I would like help to see what I should do next, Sprint tried to say it was hardware. Remember my phone is brand new just died insurance claim. I was thinking flashing a now ROM but thus time make sure I do it in fastboot first. Advice would be nice?

I know if your stock sometimes you can get a lemon I had a brand new evo 3d on launch day and the radio part of the phone went bad data sucked and at times wouldn't work... I wasn't rooted.. That was in a week of using the phone....
Another thing is if you know you msl and some of the program codes you could do that reactivate your phone hands free thing it might help you...
I did it back on the EVO back in the day.....
If I remember it was something along the lines of that ##data## edit msl and somewhere in that you could do a reset...
Do this at your own risk tho.... The worst thing that would happen is your phone might not reactivate and you would have to do it again online sprints site...
Yeah sounds about right with the lemon thing, other things are going wrong now that I'm stock. I did the mos thing once before with sprint actually three times before. When I first got it and later when it started tweaking.

[Q] Sooo my rooting experience had gone from good to bad...

I am not a newbie to rooting or at least I think that
But, my EVO 3d has been acting very wierd since rooting in december. I used the HTC method with hboot 1.5 and used reliable roms (infected, miui, mikrunny)
It has never been the same, I have to periodically reflash new roms because the phone would freeze up, ghosts start typing on the touchscreen, certain part of the screen I can't touch, pressing power button would wake the phone and start the music
I have used various recoveries (twrp 1, twrp 2.0, twrp touch, cwm 4, cwm 5, cwm touch) with most stable being twrp 1 except for the fact that turning off the phone and restarting it causes it to be stuck on the HTC splash screen.
Just to explain the severity of the situation, the volume and power button have almost been fully pressed inside the phone from starting recovery and bootloader menus, the back case tabs are broken
I am soo bogged down with the phone, that I just want STOCK HTC software with 100% reliability and nothing else.
Sounds like your digitizer is going. I had the same problem. Bring it in and they will either replace the digitizer or the phone.

There is a sticky for going back to 100% stock and s-on. Or u could wait for the next official update and just take it
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Yeah that's what I was wondering, can I just accept the newest HTC update and be "fully back to stock"
i personally belice its either you or the phone ( most likely the phone) doing weird things..... just go stock and get it replaced brother man

Just take it to sprint, its your digitizer, I had to have mine replaced saturday.! Its simple and those ppl at sprint barely know what rooting is, let alone what an unlocked bootloader or custom rom is.... js!

OK. This might sound like a dumb question... But when was the last time you pulled the battery and left it out for thirty seconds? An all voltage clear is sometimes all it takes. Also... Do you use a screen protector?

personal experience
I had the same problem with the ghost typing. the problem was the digitizer. If you have insurance on the phone then set it back to a stock ruu and bring the phone in to sprint. this is what i did and i got a new phone overnited and had it the next day.
Its as I feared I dropped my phone in water like a month after I got it on launch day, I just didnt want any bias if I told you guys first.
BUT the problem was NEVER there when I had stock HTC, it only started after rooting since december, where can I buy this digitizer?
I do have a screen protector so I'll remove that and put a new battery in, maybe it'll fix the problem

that literally is what happend to me. all was well for a little bit but then it got out of control. Good thing I got it at BBY Mobile and they got it replaced with a new one. Luckily it had HBOOT 1.4

Update: I have taken off the screen protector and there was some water left in it
I have installed a new battery too and most of the ghost touching problems have gone away.
But I have a new issue, I cannot get any rom to reboot for some reason, I have tried all the recoveries (ext4, twrp, cwm) I have to flash boot.img from fastboot if I want to load the rom after turning off the phone. Is there a solution for this problem?

[Q] Evo 3d gsm screen corruption

Hi,
Does anyone have any idea why this happened? picture here: http://imgur.com/UHEKm
I was just playing a game on my e3d, and all of a sudden, video froze, music was still on, touch screen was still working, but the screen got all "noisy" - like in the pic.
I pulled the battery, and it was the same.
I reverted to factory defaults, no change...
I can't access recovery to try and flash a backup or a stock rom because the screen doesn't come on until the phone boots.
Can anyone help? I'd like to at least revert to a stock rom before taking the phone back to the store.
Thanks in advance.
Is there any way to output recovery screen via HDMI?
yea
you could in, using a micro usb to hdmi adapter, which will set you back about 10 bucks
yup, i knew that, and i already have the adapter. My question was if it was possible to see the custom recovery screen via hdmi.
As far as i figured out, it's not possible to do that.
Similar issue, help please
i too have same problem ., have changed 2 LCD assemblys until now thinking its an LCD issue, but not sure whats wrong. what solution did u seek to this ? can i please get to know .. thanks in advance guys

If the screen's failing, you could flash a ROM using ADB, then wipe the recovery..
However, I see no point in it. If the screen fails, it's not a ROM issue, it's more of a tampering with internals sort of thing. So unless they can prove that Rooting your phone cause the screen to fail, they have no right to deny the repair.
I finally got my phone back today, after 7 weeks in service...
What i ended up doing was, just as DjDom said, to flash a rom using adb, and then wipe recovery.
Anyway, i think it wouldn't have mattered. The repair forms said that the device couldn't be repaired, and that they changed the mainboard. So now i have a new, unrooted evo3d. After a 7 week wait, thanks to Rogers approved service shops...
Thanks to everyone who replied.

Niether camera working, tried different ROMS

A few days ago, i picked up a used EVO LTE. I didn't test thoroughly enough before I handed over the cash, and the cameras (front and back) are not responding. I bought it used, knowing it was rooted and emailed when I got home to see if I could get a history of flashes or something (obviously with no response)...
What happens is the default camera app force closes before an image is available, sometimes giving a "toast" error, sometimes not. I have tried other apps from the Play Store and none of them work, with many errors of "Cant find the camera".... The "mirror" app in my ROM shows only a black screen (which has been my only way of testing the front camera).
I'm wondering what sorts of things I can do to rule out software... I've tried restoring using the VipeRUU tool as well as 3 custom roms, two sense based and then CM 10.1... I'm thinking it might be hardware related, but for both cameras to go out would have to be main board related, correct?... Id think if one camera was broken, at least the other would work... Is there anything I can do before ripping it apart to try and fix a hardware problem I haven't Identified?
I saw some people saying that Kernels arent always compatible with one another, and someone that isnt flashing compatable roms with the kernel can bork things.... I have some experience rooting and flashing (all on a Samsung, other than 72 hours on this HTC) so most of this is pretty foreign to me. I've never tried flashing a kernel, and wouldn't even know where to start or where to check for compatibility.
I had this happen to my old phone. Camera randomly stopped working, nothing would fix it. Took it to sprint, they swapped the camera, nothing. Your best
bet would be to put insurance on it and replace it.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
It sounds like a hardware issue. If you ran VipeRUU and the camera still didn't work then the problem isn't the kernel or software, since VipeRUU puts the phone back 100% stock.
Can you do that on a used phone?... I guess I'd have to take it in since I don't see the option online.
Yeah, stock except after running VipeRUU I still had S-Off and an unlocked bootloader.

Yes you can. I bought mine off eBay, had it for about five months before the camera failed. Took it Sprint, they failed to fix it and replaced it at no charge.

I don't have insurance on it. I looked online to see if I can activate the total protection and it said my phone wasn't eligible.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Huh, that's weird. Maybe the policy changed since I upgraded to the One. I guess take it in and see what they can do for you.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Well they asked me where I got it from, I told them I bought it from craigslist, perhaps they flagged it when I activated at the store?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I was able to call in and activate the insurance... Now to restore everything to factory.

[Q] Will Not Wake from Sleep

My phone is rooted and S-ON and whenever it goes into sleep mode, I am unable to wake the device (it'll sometimes show the flashing green light if there's a notification waiting) and have to Soft-Reset (simulating battery pull) to get it to become responsive again. Do I need to go back to stock and re-root or is there something else that may resolve the issue?
What ROM are you on?

^^^
I am still on stock build with latest software.
I would do a full wipe in TWRP (Dalvik, cache, data & system), flash a ROM and go from there to see if that resolves the issue.

I gave this a try... wiped it, installed a ROM (meanbean) and discovered the problem persists. I am using a warranty replaced device from Asurion btw (got it last week). Any other thoughts on this? I'm feel like ill need to RUU it and get another replacement.

That might be your best bet. Did you have issues with the phone prior to rooting it? If so, then it sounds like you have a hardware issue. I would RUU and see if the problem persists and, if so, get another replacement.

I rooted my replacement the same day, didn't notice anything odd during that timeframe.
I've noticed that since I activated my replacement phone, the old device no longer appears to have this issue. Is it possible that the SIM card or some other element/component that works while the device is in an active state was triggering the issue?
