Galaxy S2 I9100 Bad reception in GSM, 3G, WiFi - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a SGS2 i9100 and it's the inernational version. Recently I flashed I9100XWLSD stock firmaware which I got from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Now the problem I have is the reception is only about 1 signal bar and sometimes it rises upto 3 bars. But it never access HSDPA even though it shows connected. Also WiFi is slow and it takes times to load web pages.
The signal band for UMTS/HSDPA in my country is 2100Mhz. - My country is Sri Lanka (Asia)
Is there any fix that I can apply. It's really annoying to have this problem because 90% of time, I can't even make calls as it only stays on dialing screen without actually connecting with the other party that I'm calling to.

Try the modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier. Then try the modems bundled with stock roms released by other carriers in your country. And if connectivity/data still isn't fixed, try any/every modem you can get your hands on.
Re: WiFi, this isn't affected by the modem (as WiFi drivers are in the kernel), so maybe try some custom kernels or even different stock roms which will have different stock kernels (No, there are no 'easy fixes' for either of those problems, it's going to take some 'experimenting' on your part if you want to fix them).

ok mate I'll experiment with some modems. Thank you! Can you tell me a good kernel which suits my device?

Try Dorimanx and/or Siyah; there are other custom kernels you can try in the Android Development & Original Android development sections. Also, so far as the WiFi is concerned, in the WiFi settings on your phone for the network you're connecting to, try static IP instead of DHCP, this might just solve that particular problem without you having to flash anything (try this before you start flashing kernels).

[Q] Major Reception Problem

Hi guys, i'm thinking i may have to send my G2 back to O2
I love the G2 but as an actual phone mine as become next to useless! 99% of my calls drop out mid call or freeze with the other persons voice freezing mid-sentence and stuttering like a stuck record. At this point the screen usually freezes so i can't do anything with the phone for up to a min (approx) .
I find even if i have full signal, as soon as i go to make a call the signal will drop out completley, showing the circle with a bar through it? I thought it may just be crappy O2 reception but my wife is on O2 and her phone is fine.
Has anyone experienced these problems or similar and can provide a bit of feedbak? Otherwise it's gonna have to go which is a shame cos it's brilliant for everything else
I've now restored my original O2 branded firmware as the phone may have to go back to O2, i've also used a USB jig to reset download counter.
When i type *#1234# it shows:
PDA: I9100XWKE2
PHONE: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100O2UKE1
Build info: Fri May 6 07:48:55 KST 2011
THis is what i was expecting however when i check in Settings > About Phone the Kernel version is: [email protected] #2
How come when i re-flashed the O2 branded firmware did the kernel not get replaced with a non-root kernel?
Any suggestions on how to get rid of the Root kernel would be most welcome
I'm in the process of downloading a full wipe rom so i'll maybe flash this and then re-flash the O2 firmware to see if that removes it?

root doesn't mean the phone is rooted.
DELL101 doesn't mean samsung got dell to make the phone either.
That is the original kernel.
HI
Are you sure its root? I dont remember what the stock kernel was for me but have you tried running a root app with success. set cpu is a good one to try you can find it free here on xda.
About your reception issue,
Its the modem/radio that sorts out your reception have you tried different ones? Im on o2 in the midlands i find KG6 modem to be the best for me.
What custom rom where you on? and do you get the same problems with the stock rom?
Actually flashing different modems would be a really good idea.
mynamesteve, pointed KG6, I would also recommend the KH3 modem as well.
Try it before you take it back.
As for rooted kernel, I recommend using speedmod, by hardcore.

Thanks brother
mynamesteve, LiFE1688
I tried running Titanium backup and it failed so as you correctly suspected it clearly isn't a root kernel.
Also i flashed original O2 firmware
PDA: I9100XWKDD
PHONE: I9100XXKDH
CSC: I9100O2UKD1
and the Kernel version was shown as [email protected] #2.. so there we go

Where is the best place to find individual modems? All the firmwares that i have flashed have been a single tar file or zip file containing the 3 components....
Thanks again guys ;p
Sigh, it is even a sticky thread.
Galaxy S 2 Shipped Modem Collection
You can also use rom manager to download it.
Thanks again, i've flashed KG6 firmware so will see how the reception is with it, if there's no change will try KH3 modem...
Nice one

CM9 with i9100T modem no internet

So i flashed a i9100T modem on my phone with CM9 latest nightly(i know, i know, its a nightly rom) with this modem: I9100TDUKJ1.
I have no internet connection on CM9 but when i install Miui V4 SGS2 2.3.19, i get internet connection. This is weird.
I bought the phone from bell and now im overseas in Thailand and i need to use the internet.
Im on CM9 latest nightly and the internet wont work. Im thinking of flashing a i9100T modem! Please help! Thank you!
I tried KI3, KI4 and all the new ICS Modems and non works. So im turning to the i9100T variant since the 850mhz band in these modem works better.
Some modems are better for certain networks/carriers, so you can definitely flash the i9100T modem in your i9100M. If you are not happy with the network performance, you can always go back to your original modem - there is a huge collection of modems in xda. It will not kill your phone, I personally use different branded modem in sgs2 phone.
fixed
seems like apn settings was wrong.

My Internet is very slow. What can I do?

Hello,
I have "[ROM][JB 4.2.2][AOKP/CM10.1/PA] ReVolt JB I9100 [Ver.4.3][13/05][Hybrid+AROMA+PIE]" Custom Rom installed on my Galaxy S2.
My internet only works over WIFI. Not over UMTS / GPRS. This is very very slow. What can I do? I've done a modem update. Modem_BULP8-Vodafone....
Try more modems. Start with the modems bundled with stock roms released by your carrier. Then try modems bundled with stock roms released by other carriers in your country. Then try any modem you can get your hands on (there are dozens). Assuming it's not a carrier-side issue, which it is at least 50% of the time.

[Q] Help with choosing update for GT-I9300

Hello,
I own a Galaxy S3 International and I haven't updated it in a while. When I got it it was with some Vodafone branded rom (I think it was from Vodafone Ireland) and I just flashed it the first 4.1.2 that came out http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=9222 - I9300 XXELKC
So the phone was working fine with this ROM although I have a problem with 3G - can't use 3G so I think the modem in this rom is not the same as the phone's but I have no idea about this... Now for no particular reason I've started to get some random freezes so I read about this Sudden Death Syndrome and decided that I should update my firmware before it's too late. Thing is I have no idea which ROM to pick? Should I get 4.3 (can you downgrade after you get it?) OR should I just get the latest 4.1.2 version? Also how can I be certain the ROM's modem will be the same as my phone's so that I can use 3G? Because now when I use my mobile internet it can't connect to 3G it just uses the H+ and every now and then it tries to connect via 3G but this results in no internet so it switches back to H+ again. If it will be of any help my kernel version is: 3.0.31-566833 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 30 17:48;33 KST 2012
Thanks in advance for the help

Download the latest version Android 4.3 for Ireland with sammobile.com
.Sudden Death occurs between 150-200 days of purchase device...Perhaps you OFF because you key the ignition faulty - My friend had the problem.
I think you can downgrade at anytime.....
Why not make a nandroid backup, and try it yourself whether the 3g works or not. I guess the modem will be different, but if it is working on your area, why not
I live on the furthest country from many ROMs being developed and having no problem with the modem?

[Q] Weak network signal after upgrading from 2.3.6 to JB

Hi,
I have been using ATT Galaxy S2 (SGH I777) for almost 2 years now. Immediately after purchasing, came to India and I rooted it with OCD Root Stock ROM.
Recently only, I updated the firmware with ATT Stock Jelly Bean (UCMD8) but I started facing issues with the network signal strength. Then, after a week updated to ShoStock3 JB v4+ jeboo_kernel_i777_v2-3a. Signal strength still ranges between ~3-5 asu. Not able to receive /make any calls. Most of the time it remains unavailable or out of network.
Tried various modems KE7, KI3, NELP3 and many others but of no use. (have tried each of these modems after keeping them for at least 3 days as mentioned in one of the thread that modem takes at least 3 days to settle)
Has anyone faced this issue or if anyone can help me out here....thanks in advance.
Tried reading many threads outta here but could not find any similar one..so posted here.
Regards.
I've never experienced that. When changing distribution or modem, there may have been slight variation in signal strength, but not complete failure.
I don't recognize those modems. Stock modems for the I777 would be KH7, KK6, LE5, LL6 and MD8. There are also modems from leaked firmware versions KJ1, KJ2, KJ4, LC2, LC5, LD3, LD4, and LK3. You can grab any of those modems in this thread. Try those and see what results you get, although when you flashed the I777UCMD8 firmware, it would have included the MD8 modem.
