I think it's related to this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274218 I'm not quite sure but take a look at least.

Known behavior, explained many times.
New mount points leave the old Rom on the phone.
Check rootsu guide.

Please supply screenshot of:
1) From a file manager with root permissions ( the /data/media directory)
2) Download "Disk usage" from play store, select "Local storage" and show screenshot.
Also you mention

How did you full wipe? Full wipe from non-stock recovery DOES NOT clear your SDcard.

Well screenshot abit later but ATM its like I've done hard reset from stock recovery least 4 times and its every time like that storage .Currently idk why its like that. When I enter the folders I don't find any content of any sort cause I've wiped every think clean .But still I'm left with 4.6gb storage and I have these 2 folders I typed only soooo its bumnmer

Here you go

Please im deeply confused and ima ****in cry. When i went to flash some other rom to see if this folders get fixed i noticed that my old stuff from 4.1.2 aint actually deleted but are somewhere deeply buried. In CWM i see the path to them but when download some root explorer i just cant find them
WTF is happening..I can see the files in sdcard/0 but i cant when using some file manager but only via CWM.Serously serously..

Not what I asked for.
I specifically said /data/media NOT /storage/emulated.... probably why my guide didn't help.
Also I asked for "disk usage"... these were very important

Hi all,
Hope your well.
Im having the same issue too when trying to install apps. Exactly the same message. just over 6GB available in storage.
Im trying to install friendcaster no luck.
Tried to install you tube too, no luck. I have checked data/apps and I have no Odex files in there. Also, I have not installed friendcaster before on this phone therefore there will not likely to be any odex files for that app.
I am on Omega Rom, which is deodexed.
Btw, where is internal storage gone? only see SD storage and ExSd storage.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks guys

Having odex files is the issue that comes to mind but if you have checked it and there isn't any related to friendcaster then u should try wiping cache n dalvik to see if that works.

Salaam bro.
Thanks for your response.
This may sound silly but I was trying to think back a few days ago if I had made any system like changes to my phone. I then remembered that in one of the settings menu in Rom Toolbox, there is an option to choose where to install apps. Auto, internal or SD card. I changed it from Auto to SD,thinking (logically) it would save internal storage. It turns out (so far)that this was the issue. I changed it back to auto and then I was able to install the app. Wierd I know. Im confused. I hant tried to install anymore apps yet so not sure if this is sorted for good but will keep an eye out.
Once again thank you for taking time out to respond.

U shouldn't need to install apps to external as u have a lot of memory this time around n u can also use a lot of software to move game data to external sd and run them from there by Binding the directories. Anyways best of luck to you to buddy for Ramadan. Do remember me in your prayers. Tc. Fe Aman Allah

[Q] The files on /sdcard/ and /external_sd/ are reversed. Help !

So I just flashed an update of Resurrection Remix rom from 1.9.1 to 2.4, at first it was working fine, then, I noticed that the usual internal memory card files were in /emmc, which was typical for AOKP roms, so I went and looked for the solution, and then, theres this post about a workaround, right here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1536568 and so, it said to install directory bind and all that stuff.
Well because I'm stupid, I rushed and ticked the 'transfer files from target to data' which was not the thing to do. So all my internal files from /emmc went into external_sd.
So to sum it up, the files originally from my /external_sd/ went into /sdcard and the files from /sdcard went into /external_sd/.
I actually restored from the backup and thank goodness it was back to normal, BUT! I really liked that update but whenever I reflash that update back, for some reason the problem returns.
If anyone can help me, I'll be deeply in gratitude

You could try but i doubt that. Just to make sure make a nandroid backup first. Do a factory reset and flash the rom you wanted and see if it fixes it. Anyway, you could just restore your backup if something goes wrong like you did before.

[Q] going from 4.2.2 back to 4.1.2

Hello everyone hope you are all good.
Please could someone help me out? Yes im a noob I like to tinker with my phones but im a little stuck. I recently went and updated my phone to 4.2.2 but didnt like the way it set the file system up. eg emulating sd cards for multi user's and also the fact it changed the internal storage from sdcard to sdcard0.
Ok heres the problem I didnt make any sort of backup before the update (yes I know im stupid) . All I want to do is get the phones file system back to the way it was on 4.1.2 eg no emulated sd and the internal storage to be sdcard.
I've since gone back to stock 4.1.2 via Odin after using megawipe via the cwm recovery.
But this didnt fix it :crying: .
If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if ileft out anything you need to know but new to this never had to ask for help
use search, there's an exact same thread from a couple of days ago
you could use Root explorer to get your files back but seems you screwed up the phone :/

what didn't it fix?
After restoring to 4.1.2 it didnt fix the file system setup my internal storage is still called sdcard0, and instead of the normal path its storage/sdcsrd0 ??
how does that matter?

Read the basic faqs and guides first .
jje
Matters to me cos when I download and install an app I like to know where its going and the ability to move them to my external sdcard if need be.
Its down to personal taste at the end of the day... I didnt like 4.2.2 cos of the whole multi user mess. I thought that by joining here someone might be able to point me in the right direction . What controls the way the files and folders are sorted out.?
you are not able to move your files to external SD? you never mentioned it
Ive since gone back to 4.1.2 stock, still not able to move apps to the external sd cos after flashing 4.2.2 it messed up the file system. Even aftet flashing back its still the same

Was moving apps to external sd via GL to SD app. Was all working fine until flashing 4.2.2 which decided it would change where it put files and apps.
I used CWM recovery to use megawipe then odin to put 4.1.2 stock back on .
If anyone has a guide to megawipe then reflash without odin please let me know.

in the same boat, I noticed my sdcard sppears wiped but isnt wiped. I hope people saying search etc. are not deliberatly witholding the answer because that isnt nice.
if the same question was asked 2 days ago in the same way why does this thread appear on google but the other doesnt.
I did this whilst connected to adb (with it booted in recovery)
Code:
adb shell
cd /data/media/0
mv * ../
cd ..
rm -rf 0
Also tho I had to remove duplicate folders from the /data/media first or the mv will fail. I am surprised no function has been added to recovery apps yet for this. Or maybe they think noone will ever downgrade from 4.2 (I think 4.2 is a bad version of android).

The people saying search generally are aware of the answer. In regards to /data/media/0, I wrote a thread on it and its in general in "sticky roll-up thread" which everyone is expected to read.
However it has since been determined that the OP's problem is completely different.
OP reports storage/sdcard0 which has in itself nothing to do with 4.2. All aosp roms use storage/sdcard0 for internal and storage/sdcard1 for external. Unless the OP Missed a / and means storage/sdcard/0 which is something all together different. Its a tricky one. Its hard to resolve without seeing it

I agree it is fragmented. I don't see the benefit of separate general and q&a
I think we should have:
Android Development
Android Original Development
Q&A / Guides
Accessories.
But oh well.
As a very last resort could u not hook up to kies software and initialise your phone with mine it resets it back to factory as u 1st took it out of the box surely that would reset it bud

[Q] Free up space on device

I am in need of freeing up space on my device. Out of the 16Gb I only have 2.xGb available now. I do have at least 2 backups on my phone, and 2 helium backups. Looking at the math, they should not take up that much room:
Stock.zip 1.7G
slim.zip 1.6G
Helium1 642MB
Helium2 733MB
= 4.65G
So that really doesn't make any sense to me. I reviewed my apps and I had a lot of google play cached, but I deleted all of that data through app management. So I can't figure what is taking up all of this space.
1. if I delete my backups from the device, which I have transferred to my computer, and then paste them back in, will they work? Will they work if I format the phone?
2. In reality I would have no problem formatting the phone to wipe everything and flash a rom again via OTG cable through CWM. However, I am at a loss as to what selection(s) in CWM I make to fix my problem.
1) there is actually only 11-12G actually available to the user, on all DNA's, on all ROMs
2) you can move back ups around. i keep a copy of mine in dropbox and on my computer, but never on my phone.
3) you have to have apps, app cache, music, pics, ect to have such little space. you need to look at your /data partition and your /sdcard partition when calculating space.
4) wth is helium?
Helium used to be carbon backup. But I'll look at my directories and review the space used
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Ok. So I was able to free up a bunch of space and removed a single backup, leaving stock.zip on board in case of crashing and need of assistance with Verizon though 99% unlikely to happen. I was having major issues finding where helium stored its data because it is blocked from the user. But luckily the Storage option in >Settings>Storage in slimbean is much greater in depth than I'm used to. So I was able to detect where a lot of my data was coming from which was various sources, but some were helium/Carbon, and also old DL files of CM that were sitting around.
But for the sake of knowing, If I did want to wipe everything through CWM and format, would I choose everything? or just a single option.

well its been a while since i've used CMW, and im on TWRP. but it depends on how far down you want to format. if you want to just do a regular wipe, and reload a new rom then the usual wipe is your /system, /data, /cache, /dalvik, and /boot. im not sure what CWM calls them, but those are the usual partitions. just make sure you have a new rom ready or a backup. if you wanted to reformat even FURTHER than that, you could flash the stock rocovery and do a fac reset. but thats only if you are have major issue across all roms.
OK. Thanks for the response. I'm going to research why so many people tend to prefer twrp now.

If u came from a Rom that was on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 to a Rom that is 4.2.2 then check the /sdcard directory.. not sdcard0. I think its also in data/media. Not sdcard/data/media but striaght data/media. I looked into that and saw what you were referring to. My only concern is that data/media is where my stock.zip recovery is saved. I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to remove that from my device yet. Also, do I need any of the CWM stuff found in data/media still? I am not referring to data/media/0.

Update: I'm glad I checked. I performed a backup of my current rom and CWM placed it in /data/media/clockworkmod. So this is an active directory that CWM is using for my backups. So I don't believe I'll be deleting the /data/media/clockworkmod directory. But will then anything else be impacted if deleted?

Alright I'm pretty sure its the data/media/android folder that has a pretty good chunk of memory. Try and delete that. It wont mess up your current setup because your android folder is on the sdcard 0

Also if you took pictures, downloaded stuff, or have music when you were on stock, then dont touch folders like dcim, download, music, pictures, ect. I personally move all my files when I switch between 4.1 to 4.2 fro. Sdcard to sdcard0. If you want to do that use a computer to make sure it transfered right because I used es filemanager once and it said it transfered but instead all of it was lost. I think someone made a .zip file that could transfer everything but I can't remember

Sounds good. In regards to the pictures. I believe you posted about that somewhere else before, or someone else did. I saw the issues. I use dropbox and don't have any music on my device other than google music cache. So I cleared a lot of that stuff up. thanks for your help.

Camera photos DCIM missing

Hello
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 Android version 4.3.
I had 200+ pictures in my internal storage DCIM folder. I didn't update the firmware or anything and all of a sudden all my Camera files are gone.
The files gone are the ones taken with my phone camera, other subdirectories inside the DCIM folder are perfect.
Anyone knows why this could happen and how to recover the files?
Thanks in advance

I didn't delete anything or use any photlocker apps, one day I was checking my pictures and they were there, another I'm going to check them and they are gone...

Than I can not help you sorry.
But if you get root acces go to data/media and check if your photos there if yes than move it from data/media to sdcard. Thats all i can do for you now sorry
I've had this happen twice. Seemed like it would do it after connecting it to my PC, and then poof, all internal pics gone. Very annoying, I did try to recover them and no luck. My guess is it had something to do with the version of the Samsung Kies at that time, it has not happened again but now I make sure my stuff is always uploaded to cloud storage.

Thank you. I looked for .nomedia files in the whole phone, found some 0 bytes files created 2-3 days apart on directories \GT-I9300\Phone\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Voice Notes\xxxxxx
They are empty.
Also, I noticed that although the pictures got deleted, space hasn't been freed (I have the same free space as before when the pictures were there).
Which makes me think maybe the pictures didn't disappear...
More suggestions?

This might be basic but have you checked on the phone file explorer once - sometimes the pics just don't show up on the pc but are visible in phone (something to do with usb mode with connecting)

Hello
Yes, I checked with phone file explorer, even trying by showing hidden files, however, there was no luck, nothing showed.
Thanks
