Configuring the kernel
Dears,
May I ask how do configure the parameters of this kernel? Is there a separate app for me to do this just like Boeffal kernel?

How will I know the format of my external memory card... I'm afraid to flash this kernel because I feel my device might not read my external memorycard again... Please advice..

If experiencing lag when scrolling the app drawer or lag in general.
Don't worry I got that fixed, it got to do with the triangle away support.
Samsung got a lock on the bootloader values (new in 4.2.2) causing it to cause lag in the rom, I fixed that so next kernel release will be smoother. I had to change some stuff so the Triangle away is still supported
Expect it tonight.

Oh great that you released here for the Korean users, I didn't get myself to make a version for them because of the language barrier and the English speaking ones couldn't deliver me a initramfs.
Don't forget to put your GH link in the OP for others.
Oh i forgot it! Thanks!!

OP, thanks a lot. If you need a good custom ROM to start a developing base on, PM me and I'll send you a link.

I sent you a PM asking what you needed, but maybe you didn't see it. Still, if you'd like the files, tell me exactly what you need me to grab. I'm more than happy to help you out.
Hi, can you please put a big red line in the OP saying that this is not for the International version? i know many people will miss that small line you have now and will be sh*tload of posts wondering why their phone got bricked

I get a lot of PMs, sorry. I would prefer somebody else doing versions for the Korean phones as they have some changes in the source. Maybe some day but not for now. SJKoon proved already to be helpful by debugging the audio enhancements and neutering the call detection, I'm sure he'll do a good job on the rest of things.
always nice to see new Dev's
keep it up ur good work :good:
Great performance, as expected. Here's a few benchmarks. OP, if you ever need anything specific from the E250L phone, I'll be more than happy to help!
Nice to see this!
Will be trying your kernel out soon, mate!
Btw, does your kernel support NTFS/ExFAT for 64gb sdxc cards?
Just flashed v0.8b...

Everything seemed fine on 0.81-beta10, except my 64GB microsdxc could no longer be detected - it kept showing as an empty extsdcard folder which was empty and on every reboot, there is always a prompt that i can safely remove my card. I also tried mounting the card from within settings-storage but not successful...
Back to 0.8b for now...

[KERNEL][YP-G1][MTD][3.0.101][Linaro] Impulse r7.1 (26/06/14)

Hi, I wanted to try something for the Galaxy Player 4.0. I know that the hummingbird processor inside of it had a lot of potential and I want to extract all the power it has to offer . To do so I had to use any tools that could help me achieve that objective . Now enough with the talk and more with the actual content of this kernel. Note that this kernel works for both versions (US and Intl, Korea can work but it hasn't been tested).
Disclaimer: This is a MTD kernel, it will only work with CM based ROMS (CM10.1 and up). Flashing it in a GB ROM could result in a brick, Also I'm not responsible to any bricks caused by this kernel.
Features:
Linux 3.0.101
Compiled it using Christopher83 custom Linaro 4.7.4 toolchain optimised for Cortex-A8 chipsets (4.9.1 For Android 4.4 and up)
Cranked it up with -O3 optimisations and -Ofast optimsations for GPU
LZ4 Compression for kernel and crypto
OC available up to 1.2 GHz (through 100 MHz steps)
Available governors (8): Lulzactive, SmartassV2 Intellidemand, Conservative, Ondemand, Interactive, Userspace and Powersave.
Available I/O schedulers (5): Noop, Deadline, Fiops, Row, Cfq, Sioplus, Bfq (Row is enabled by default)
Updated GPU drivers ([email protected] )
Tweaked and optimised I/O schedulers
Sound improvements (ALSA, PCM)
ARM RWSEM optimisations
Optimised SLUB memory allocator
Timer slack controller support
Backported CPUidle from 3.5 kernel
Support for swap
CIFS
TUN
Zram
Ext4 optimisations
Fast Charge
Fast wifi while in standby
Support for OTG connectivity
NTFS and FAT read and write support
Undervolted the LCD panel by 20%
LMK backported from kernel 3.4
Minimum brightness lowered (Needs confirmation)
Always up-to-date with Bbelos and Cyanogenmod Aries sources
720p Video recording support

Note: with the newer version of CWM, you'll need to flash the zip from the internal sdcard ONLY. If you want to use the external sdcard to flash the zip, please mount the internal one first as it will cause your device to be stuck in the samsung logo.

I don't know how much time it takes for fast charge. Actually fast charge is only something that makes your device think that you're using AC when you charge with your computer. And I still yet implemented it.
Wow, I am happy that you decided to make kernel
props
About lowering screen brightness.
Sometimes kernel modification works, but framework lets us only set it to stock lowest minimum brightness. Try rootdim and see if it allows you to set your brightness lower
I will have a closer look at your repo when I will be on PC

as a future feature could you force enable adb? otherwise porting roms is impossible because I can't get a bootloop logcat
Awesome work! I will flash it this weekend
I'm still in 4.1 though can i just flash it or do i need to do it from the start?
And what are features like CIFS and TUN?

I don't know well as far as the 4.2.2 kernel related, adb needs to be enabled from the dev section (because of security reasons) except for the first boot where it is doing an initial logcat than lock itself. I can try to do something though.

It can work but I'm not giving support for it. Also cifs is known for mostly remote file access and tun for vps servers.

Great work on this! I have one suggestion though. Can the amount of available ram be increased? I know the kernels on the 5.0 have done it, so I don't see why it would not be possible on the 4.0 (and everyone loves more ram!).

I can't use the same amount of ram as the 5.0 because it will crash the camera, I will try to put 10000 instead of 14000.
I've been using this for a day and a half or so. Looking good so far.
At 1GHz, UI performance compared to the "regular" 3.0 kernel feels the same. Sunspider completes about 300ms faster, and Nenamark2 is consistently 1fps higher, but no difference with any other benchmark I tried. Modern Combat 4 now also runs with no stutters- I figure since Linaro has no performance benefits this must be due to the -O3/-Ofast optimizations (which by the way: what is O3 and Ofast? Can't find any info searching).
Battery life seems good so far.
Haven't experienced any odd crashes or lags.
Great job so far, I'll continue playing around with this- might use it in a future ROM.

I have TWRP on my Galaxy S4 and comparing it to CWM on my Player (and even the original CWM on my ancient s3c6410 devices), they all do what they need to do about the same. So it really doesn't matter to me.
TWRP would be nice but it does not matter to me. I would like to see aroma file manager working.

Ok I put up the pool in OP, as for aroma FM, I don't want to mess with including touchscreen drivers (I feel sometime too lazy I know )

[KERNEL-KK-4.4.2][51xx]SphereKat-Rev5.4[DICONTINUED]

Info & Thanks
What you need to know before you use this kernel.
This kernel got Selinux Permissive state as it supports more apps like TiTaniumbackup.
Reverting back to a Selinux enforced Kernel (stock) is no longer a problem from Rev3.0 and up.
You can set Selinux Status with the included Synapse app
You want to know why this kernel comes with Selinux included, google for Selinux and search your answers.
AllCast mirror will not work as this is a Samsung thing and not opensource.
If this is a problem for you, don't use this kernel.
DISCONTINUED , A NEW THREAD WILL BE OPENED FOR THE NEW KERNEL SUPPORTING ONLY THE KITKAT BOOTLOADER.
NO JELLYBEAN BOOLTOADER SUPPORT, IT IS TIME TO MOVE FORWARD.
INSTALLATION
Take a full nandroid backup.
NO NEED TO BE ON ANY KITKAT BOOTLOADER (your wifi will work with this kernel)
YOU NEED TO BE ON A KITKAT TOUCHWIZ ROM.
Install with cwm
Thanks:
sidmoraes for pointing me to other kernel source that I could use as base, still had to change some stuff but this is better then waiting for samsung to release there source, if they ever will. (Finally Samsung released source)
Andreilux - Faux123 - Yank555.lu for kernel work

S-pen alignment is fixed in the kernel and rom so you need both to have 100% accuracy.
This kernel will fix it for 95%. The other 5% is in the roms framework.
#########################################################
Note to all users:
Don't be a lurker, hit thanks as it took plenty of hours to build this.
Samsung didn't release the kernel source (not yet) so a lot of debugging was needed to fix problems like the sensors not reporting correctly.
This is the only thing I ask, hit thanks if this helps you.
It is free and enjoy it.

Edit:
About the lurkers,
Martin from this post isn't one as he is a donator and thanks hitter.
A example to you all.
I wanted that cleared out as I didn't want Martin to take that lurker thing personal.

Flashed and while it seems to be working fine for the most part, my CPU is constantly maxed out for some reason. I changed no settings or anything, and it was idling fine before flashing. I'm sure it might be something with my device, but I thought I'd put it out there just in case it's not. I'm going to mess around with some settings, see what I can do, and see if it changes.

Like you said, it could be something with your device, mine goes into deep sleep and it has gone as high as 90% deep sleep. Pretty amazing I would say and great job by @civato. Are you on pegasusq governor?

I was indeed using pegasusq. After trying multiple different governors and nothing changing (even stayed at 1600mhz on powersaving), I've decided to wipe my device entirely and start from scratch. No biggie. If I narrow it down to a specific app or device setting that was causing it, I'll post it so people are aware.
09/Jun/2014 First Public release Rev2.2
[*]Memory Leak fix cpu stats
[*]Memory Leak fix Kernel Ext4 & Power
zzmoove profile nr6.
I recommend not to use Powersave governor as is very buggy. Next release will it have removed as it useless.
Best governors are Pegasusq - Adaptive and zzmoove.
I am running it an am happy to report no issues. The only changes I made were to up my top cpu speed to 1.8gzh. All govs are at default. Thanks again. Can't wait to see what is next in the works for this tablet.

Welcome to hadesKernel
Some personal thoughts:
- this kernel works only on J5 2015 versions. I`m not responsable for what can happen if you flash on other devices.
- v2.3 for J5 already includes all the previous things from A5 releases.
- if you take any of my work without my permission i'll report you, and you'll probably get banned.
- you should read at least install instructions stated in this post - i won`t offer support for any issues regarding installation;
- bug reports without device variant and logs can't be considered bugs - make sure you provide detailed info when reporting bugs;
- press 'Thanks' button instead of saying it - it will keep the thread clean and keep me motivated to do more;
- feel free to donate to me if you want to support my work.

FAQ:
Q: My wifi is broken after flash. What to do?
A: Flash latest modem available for your device.
Q: Can`t connect to wifi network. What to do?
A: Reboot the phone, reboot the wifi router/ap, make sure you don`t have mac filtering enabled on ap/router.
Q: MAC adress has changed. What to do?
A: There is nothing you can do. That happens because of newer wifi module, built along with kernel, from the latest sources. If you can`t connect see Q2 above. I won`t change back to legacy wifi modules, at least not now.
Q: Device appears as "unauthorized" in adb and notification to authorize doesn`t appear. What to do?
A: Enter developer options, disable usb debugging, wait 30 seconds and re-enable it. Now you should see the notification to allow debugging.
Q: loading
A: loading
One more just in case of need

Some q's
Fast charge as in fast charge?? Does our present kernels support that, beacause it's pretty slow.
Any plans to follow it up for a non touchwiz based rom??
does it support skies rom beta ??

Does the kernel work well with a single processor at the frequency of 50Mhz?
If you set a different GPU frequency to 720Mhz when the GPU is at 100%, is the Max frequency set or rising to 720 ignoring the set frequency? ?
Finally something interesting for the lands of the J5
For me the link doesnt work i just get this:

I added 50Mhz for some certain scenarios, to step down the freq if the load is small - screen on but idle (i have screen timeout set to 10mins), or screen off and awake (for AOD on the roms that have it-my rom for A5). Anyway i have custom script in ramdisk that bypasses stock init.qcom.post_boot.sh and sets custom loads for all the frequencies, so the device can go down even to 50Mhz, but step up if the load is reached, so it doesn't lag at all.
About gpu - from what i saw it sticks to maximum set (i use kernel adiutor).
I mostly cherry-picked features and fixes, even from your j5(6) kernel [emoji16] since all are based on same soc. This project started as personal kernel, permissive with otg enabled (because A series has OTG disabled by Samsung), and after that decided to add more things and make it public.
Cheers!

You can see the GPU frequency in real time by using these commands in Terminal (PC):
Code:
adb shell
cd /sys/devices/soc.0/1c00000.qcom,kgsl-3d0/devfreq/1c00000.qcom,kgsl-3d0
while true; do cat trans_stat; busybox sleep 0.1; done
1) The path may be different.
2) The current GPU frequency is the one with the asterisk.
3) Total transictions means the total switches between GPU frequencies.
Try these commands to confirm that the GPU frequency is stuck at 720.
We can bring the current fast charging also on custom roms or even improve the fast charging to support custom mAh and stuff like that. But forcing a battery to charge faster than it's limit can demage and reduce the battery life drastically so I think we will leave it just like that. Greetings

I know, that you have cherry pick from me?
I also found something interesting in your code
Referring to the intelli thermal, I do not know why faux124 used a different thermal control for the TSEN8974. I found that version 1 gives some errors in the logcat when I boot up the phone
I also started my kernel for personal use, specifically to be able to use viper4 ? I just needed the kernel to be permissive. And now look where the kernel go

Grace UX is touchwiz based. Non tw roms are lineage, cyanogenmod, or any other that uses AOSP as base.

I removed it from features/changelog since isn`t activated yet. I saw too late in msm8916 defconfig the CONFIG_THERMAL_MONITOR=y so the intelli_thermal isn`t there yet. I can`t even finish the build (lots of errors), and you have errors in logcat ?. You are way far than me. For now i didn`t had time to chase those errors. I`ll look more maybe next week. Anything else interesting in my source? ?
Cheers!
