"New" HTC One released to Verizon today - HTC Droid DNA

What a great phone...months ago when it was first released. I wonder how much this version when developers get it rooted will help current development for Sense.

Most people are holding out for other phones. Even HTC knows this. That's why next month the one and DNA will be getting 4.3

It was released 2 days ago and newt updated NOS with the fixes. So if you wanna reap its benefits use NOS..... 4.3 is next for us, yay official.

I'm happy with the performance I get out of my DNA, but I like the aluminium body of the One. So as soon as I find someone on Craigslist willing to by my DNA I'm gonna get the One.

From the look of things it is unlockable through HTC Dev. If not, I'm content enough with sense 5 that I would be okay with waiting until someone figures out an unlock method.
That being said, I'm not willing to part with my DNA for less than 300 bucks and the people of Craigslist are not cooperating so it may not come to that for a bit.

Good old craigslist. "Hi, I'm out of a job, and can only offer you $80 for your rooted Dna." Or "I live in Nigeria on a missions trips."
It hurts my brain

My only major gripe about the One is the lack of Qi Wireless Charging. That's a deal breaker for me.

Every time, haha

It's no longer unlockable via htcdev

Nope, although apparently one of the guys over there thinks he might have a lead on spoofing the imie so we can all use the same unlock file for HTC Dev from when it did work. I'm really hoping it pans out.

Help Bring Mdeejay to the Amaze Forums!!

if you dont know who mdeejay is look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2754407
he is an amazing dev
ill update more on him later
but show some love, im thinking of making some sort of bounty to get him the Device
He got Sense 4 working on various devices
Please leave some feedback if you want him here
I tried contacting him before. I never got a response.

If he is actually wanting to work on the amaze I'd be glad to donate, mdeejay does great stuff used his stuff on the sensation. This is a dev I would love to get the device to if he is actually wanting to work on the amaze and own a device. Kinda sucks right now to get a device for someone at this moment with newer devices coming out it seems like most devs want to move on to those newer devices. It'd be awesome to have a dev who would actually want to own and use an amaze. Back when I was on the galaxy s2 forum they got Eugene373 a phone and because he was gonna use it as his phone he ended up bringing them so much great roms. To throw a device into a devs hands who is just willing to work on a couple roms for us, is kind of a shakey idea on one side its great and appreciated that they wanna help the amaze community out on the other hand they got lives and their preferred devices so you never know how long they will be willing to help out for.

I would argue the quoted part above - our device still isn't even remotely obsolete. I was at a tmobile yesterday with a guy who works there who owned an amaze previously, but they gave him a htc one.. he isn't impressed. It is slimmer, and it includes beats - but otherwise it is the same phone without being able to access battery or have a microSD.
Sure, the international version is quad-core, but the newest phones in the US haven't made any attempt at pushing hardware specs-- we are still good competition.
There are a ton of devs that are still developing for devices that are definitely inferior to ours spec wise, that alone is a very big factor.. if they use our phone, they will fall in love(or they have bad taste!)

Well I partially agree with you, its not so much that the amaze is a bad device, its not behind the curve nor is it stale, however, the newer devices are easier to dev for from looking at the one s and one x even with no kernel source they are farther along. I love the amaze and I don't see anything compelling enough to upgrade to anytime soon. With that being said the amaze is no walk in the park to dev for, with missing drivers its already a not so easy phone to deal with, I truly hope if mdeejay or any developer that gets our device for that matter likes it the way owners of it do so that they can see a reason to get it beyond just helping us.

When I had an Iconia I used his ROMs and they were pretty good. He helped out when he could. I would like to see more developers here too, but until we have a complete source code we not be left to rust. I'm grateful for all the support right now but we only have one custom kernel.

Given that we have already received nothing from them, is there really anything to lose?
I mean, the only thing they can hold back is the ICS official ROM, but we already have that...
If they do release the official rom, they cannot legally hold back the kernel source. So, what can they do?
I seriously considered a few days ago what would happen if one of us kindly emailed HTC explaining everything and politely asking for the kernel source.
THEY CAN HAVE US ALL ARRESTED FOR INTERNETS HARASSMENT, CHARLES CARREON HAS FREE TIME NOW.
Actually, the only thing we can do is keep asking, hashtag it up gentlemen, but keep it CLASSY. Type like English is your first language. Though they do hate bad PR, totally going to put #HatesCustomers on the end.
It worked for allowing access to unlock the booloader.

Any advice what I should write?
VZW could give a **** less and bugging them will never result in anything positive development-wise; they will release on whatever schedule/circumstances suits them, customers be damned...but I'm all for pounding on HTC via social sites or other avenues, i.e. petitions, letters, etc.

Tell them how sense slows down the device and we want AOSP but that's only possible with source and you should probably tell them about all the drama that goes on around here because we don't have it, oh and all the devs leaving us
You nuts? You gotta at least tell them something they want to hear. Try something kind of like this:
To whom it may concern,
I am an aspiring Android developer and for years, I've absolutely loved Android devices from HTC. In fact, the Galaxy SIII, Nexus, and other competitor phones have zero appeal to me because I've always loved HTC. I don't feel comfortable with any other hardware manufacturer because I know I can always expect great design, ergonomics, and a manufacturer-designed user interface that makes sense (so much so that you guys even call it Sense).
My latest device is the HTC Rezound, but I upgraded before the One X and other devices were coming out because Verizon is the carrier in my area with the best signal quality. I love my Rezound because it reeks of the superb design and quality I can always expect from HTC. However, I like to develop on it as well, and I've recently hit a few snags because I lack the kernel source for the phone. So I ask as a loyal customer, could you please let me have it?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Your fan,
[NAME HERE]
Their not going to release a ICS kernel source when it hasn't even officially been rolled out yet in my opinion. Hopefully when it is released they drop the source quickly.

7 MONTHS?! That should be illegal. What the hell was stopping them?
As for our source, I doubt they are allowed by Verizon to release anything before OTA drops. Which will not happen until their new cash cow (Droid Incredible 4G) has had time to move plenty of units. So... probably no sooner than 2 weeks from now. That's if you're optimistic.
"...reeks of the superb design and quality..."
Perhaps not the best choice of words, lol.
But seriously, thanks for trying. This is too good a phone for HTC to let ignominiously die.

HTC One X+ a pain to Dev for.

HTC does a really bad job with sources, some of us already know that.
Some things you might want to know
1- the One X+ Can not flash a custom rom with its boot loader locked, unless of course there an S OFF method, but that's a low possibility. In other words HTC in some cases takes its time to release a boot loader unlock method. Usually they do a good job with this. What they suck at is giving Kernel sources. We won't see a custom kernel until December if the device was released in October
2- Its hard to do ports based of sense, so development could go for the worst with very little to no source and playing around with sense is not really a walk in the park
The one x+ looks like a good device. Hopefully T Mobile picks it up over here in the US soon.
Just giving a heads up.
As previous One X great Devs found a way to move on development, sure X+ will have a lot of dev!
It's not a big improvement against the One X (international) though, but after the new Nexus will be a LG, I will maybe even buy this device as my next phone and will do some stuff for it..

LG is not that good name over on xda, as the support and software was crap. But most off times the hardware in Lg phones is damn nice and new tech so with google behind and no locked crap it might be a intressting phone.

So you're saying for someone like me who buys phones to slap CyanogenMod on, I should expect poor results with the One X+? I will avoid then.
However, does sharing Tegra 3 with the Nexus 7 benefit the One series any? Did the One X get helped by the Nexus 7? I see this kinda like the SGS1 phones getting benefit from the Nexus S sharing SoC. The SGS2 is totally screwed as you know as it still lacks hwcomposer and stuff for CM10.
Yes I could get a Nexus, but sometimes I happen to like the design of non nexus phones more. The One X/X+ are truly sexy phones to me, and as long as they're decent to develop for I'd jump in.

This could be possible but we are never sure, either way getting something like CM booting is only half the work, the real test is getting wifi, Bluetooth, GPS etc working without HTC releasing anything. The only way to get them working is work arounds. If you are a flashaholic that likes roms that are not based off stock then stay away.
If you like Sense then by all means get it
Yes totally screwed. Sammy can kiss my ***

As someone who has an HTC flyer I must say, It saddens my to hear that HTC hardware isn't an option.
HTC has some aesthetically pleasing hardware and sense itself can be pretty nice. The tablet just feels great in your hands, and has a nice screen..
It absolutely sucks that HTC lets themselves get held back by poor sources.. I'm "ok" with my tablet not having the most up to date version constantly.. I didn't sign a contract for it.. but, I really don't want a phone that I'm locked into having for 2 years to be left out for no real good reason.
Still, I'd kill to see a smooth running JB rom that is factory quality on my flyer.
Thanks for the warning.
I have a Sensation and if it wasn't for CM this thing would have been in the garbage. I'm hoping to pick up one of these and I'm sure development work for it will eventually come around. It needs some time.

[Q] Developer Support for the DNA

Hey all,
So forgive me if this is a bit rough, I am only an intermediate user and my understanding of s-off and rom development is a bit limited.
The one thing holding me back from this phone is Sense; I have been pretty loyal to HTC since my original Incredible, but while I love the hardware, I can't stand the UI. (I cringe every time I see those god-awful icons and themes.) That and I love my AOKP, PA, and CM roms! (Paranoid Android on that screen has me drooling, haha)
Given what we know about the phone hardware, what is the likelihood of strong developer support, and how difficult does it seem to be to root? (ie. any big devs buying into it/pledging to develop for it, is the bootloader locked down like crazy, is the chipset common to other phones, etc.)
Thanks!
Well idk if this helps but heres my input(also new to htc so idk about s-off) the chipset is the same as the LG N4 but the RIL(radio interface layer) is going to be inevitably different. How much of a problem that will pose in ported devlopment I do not know. I would like some more educated input from a dev as well! I'm sure we'll garner support from atleast a few good devs I know there are a few out there that arestill vzw customers because they had the VZW gnex also the vzw s3 hada alot of support so were bound to pick up a few of those guys!!!!:victory:

I agree with the OP about Sense. Hopefully with such impressive specs, we won't suffer too badly until devs can get us a working root. Same goes for all the bloatware this device is going to come with:

[Q] Stock Android on HTC Droid DNA

I just bought an HTC Droid DNA and I was guessing if it's possible to install Stock Android Jelly Bean on the device, because I actually didn't liked Sense UI.
Thanks
Not at this time.
If you really hate sense just install a launcher.

If you are holding your breath on AOSP don't. Might want to consider returning if you don't like sense. I'm contemplating it too and switching to AT&T and picking up a Nexus 4. I don't think anyone is even working on AOSP for this phone now. If it does appear it will be months from now.

Man this is really disappointing... I love HTC and the quality of they're phones especially the DNA. But seems like the cons just keep growing. The video lag, missing apps in the market, 16gb storage and the possibility of no aosp for months.... Not sure if ill be keeping the device

Really a shame. Why can't Android users get the best hardware AND the best software on ONE device? The DNA is currently the best hardware available for Android. AOSP on it would make it the best device all together. What a shame.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but how exactly do you know. We all knew what we were getting into when we bought the device. Just gotta be patient that's all. If s-off does indeed come from sality within the month, then this device would be making great strides in development. From there we would need the RIL to be cracked, but it takes time. If you don't see any huge development by the first week of January, return your device. As long as you bought the phone after Nov 22 you can return it to Verizon by January 15th. Just my input.

2 Questions:
1) What about this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996389 Won't that get you to the point where you can try one of the ROMs that has been released in the Dev forums here?
2) Why January 15th? Is that a holiday special? Isn't it normally 2 weeks? If I bought my DNA on the 21st, what are the chances I could get them to honor this promotion? Since I only missed it by a day.
Once the devs work things out with the s-on and RIL problem this phone will really be a beast.
As far as the video problem, I'm sure it'll be worked out as more phones get 1080hd displays. Same with games and apps.

You must first unlock your device's bootloader in order to root. Once that is all completed then yes.... And in response to your second question, yes the return period is a holiday special. Chances of getting the promotion honored is doubtful, honestly. You could always return the device, pay the restocking fee, and buy the phone again elsewhere, which would then fit with the promotion. That's assuming if you bought it off contact.
If this phone ends up anything like the Rezound did, sell it now, return it, etc.
It took months and months and months and countless issues and still development is dead.

My only other choices are the Raze HD or S3.

If You really want Aosp with no issues Verizon you should leave.

Except for the fact that the DNA is a great phone that ranks up with the best right out of the box. The Rezound is/was not.
The rezound had the best screen, best audio, best processor, best camera when it came out. Lol . Nice try though.

I don't understand when people say this...Sure AOSP is nice to run every once in a while, but honestly I don't see what makes it better than sense..they do the exact same thing, they just look different! There's not even the argument that it runs faster anymore as the DNA has such good internals that it could run any os without a problem.

But it still isn't as "smooth" as aosp for a lot of people. Even then, aosp brings forth a whole bunch of mods, tweaks, themes, etc.
