Play Music All Access Bluetooth Jumping Tracks - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've recently signed up to the All Access trial so have had to switch from using PowerAmp in the car to Google's app. It works fine on headphones, however when I connect it to the car bluetooth it'll play a track fine, start to play the next one and then skip it a few seconds in. If I skip back the track plays OK and it doesn't make a difference if I cache the tracks offline. Any ideas would be great as all access is looking like something I'll have to give a miss unfortunately. I'm on stock rooted, cheers

[Q] Annoying problem with Music and bluetooth

Hi. I am absolutely clueless with this.
I am used to having my phone paired with my car stereo which acts both as a headset and as a multimedia playback device. Im using this for a couple of years now and been doing that with iPhones, Galaxies and now the Atrix nad this has never happened before.
This is the problem. Ever since I updated to Gingerbread when I answer a phone call with my car stereo, and end the call, the default Music player on the android pops up and starts playing whatever is on the playlist. I can try and pause the audio and it will play again in a few seconds. I can even force close the app and it will pop open back again. It happened with the old Music, with the new Music (with Google Music support), with Grooveshark, Winamp, you name it.
Figuring it was happenning because of a faulty ROM I installed every single GB based rom out there, including the leak version, the official version, Kenneth's beta 4.5, Kenneth's Alien ROM.
I have factory reset and tried installing everything manually (not restoring through CWM or Titanium). No fix.
Any clues?
Any thoughts on this? Thank you.
I've found that the music player only works when no pre-installed or Google apps are on auto end. IDK why, but it has to do with interconnectedness.
The media player is reacting to the media pairing event as if a button was pressed.
I trap this using a Tasker profile triggered by the bluetooth connection to my car kit; the entry task grabs Media Button Events and the exit task releases them. This stops the media player launching.
Monkey see, monkey do.
If thats the problem then try headset interceptor and choose the app you want the button presses to be sent to...worth a short. Free app in the market.

[Q] Looking for a specific internet radio/icecast app

Hi,
I'm looking for an internet radio/icecast app which will have all of the following features:
- be able to play this stream http://tx.sharp-stream.com/icecast.php?i=planetrock.aac
- be able to play that stream as soon as the app is launched
- handle connectivity problems correctly, i.e. keep trying to reconnect without the need of doing anything manually
- stops playing when bluetooth disconnects
The whole point of that is I want to be able to play that radio station using voice control over bluetooth without touching the phone. Planet Rock actually have a dedicated app which is decent, unfortunately it does not stop playing when bluetooth disconnects, instead the music starts blaring through the loudspeaker which isn't ideal.
Thanks!
I don't know for sure if this will do everything you ask but have you tried Winamp?

I have, yes. It won't even play that station.

Pandora App Issue When Used Over Bluetooth

Sorry if this is out of place here, but I'm getting zero help from Pandora and Alpine on this one. Just wondering if others have seen this issue and how it might be resolved.
When I connect my Alpine CDE-HD137BT car stereo to my HTC Thunderbolt running Pandora, the connection is made and the music plays. I can even skip, pause and play songs from the car stereo buttons. But the Pandora app on the phone just shows a black screen with:
Pandora
^v (up/down arrows)
Alpine
...and not the regular Pandora screen with the artist, track name and cover art.
If I go to the Android notifications screen where it shows what song is playing in Pandora and touch that notification, it takes me to the Pandora app and very briefly (for a fraction of a second) shows the regular Pandora screen, then immediately goes to the screen described above.
The Menu button when the screen describe above is showing only gives one option: Quit. This, of course, ends the Pandora app altogether.
I've seen videos online of others controlling Pandora on their Android phones from this particular stereo unit, and the normal Pandora screen is shown on the phone, which should be the norm here.
Any guess what's causing this? Anyone seen it before?
I'm running a rooted version of the stock Gingerbread image.
If you go into the settings before pairing your device hit the advanced menu and select Bluetooth for automotive.

Yes, that I've done, thus the fact that I can hear music, skip, pause and play. Everything operates normally, there's just this annoying screen, as described in my original post, overlaying the normal Pandora screen, so I can't see what's playing.
Hmmm... Thats really weird.

I have the same head unit and pairing it with my HTC EVO 3d running Mik's ICS.... I too have the same screen... It might be a HTC thing
old thread, but I just got the same head unit today. I've got a droid 4, and Pandora does the same thing. It's a pandora thing, not an alpine thing. When the head unit is first connecting, the screen says the same thing, but instead of alpine, it is accessory. It might be getting the alpine logo over bluetooth, and it's just a generic API.
What you can do: just do bluetooth audio. You should still be able to control pandora, but you will probably lose the thumbs up / down and other pandora specific features, but play/pause, and next track should work just fine.
its both Alpine and Pandora if you want to display pandora and not the black alpine/pandora screen use the BT Audio function you have some of the functions you can skip songs play and pause but you cant use the search feature or thumbs up/down

Bluetooth A2DP woes

So I use my car head unit to listen to Google play music. When playing a song the song info shows up fine for the first second then it changes to unknown then after a little the song info cones up again.
Does this happen for anyone else?

I have the same problem in my car. If I pause play back it shows. Start playing and us unknown. Using Google play music. This worked fine with my S4. Not a deal breaker for me but would like a solution.

Is the s4 running 4.3? Bluetooth meta data seems fixed in 4.3 but might still not work in 4.2.2 on the g2

THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 2013 Ford Edge This is very irritating. However the one thing I noticed on my GNex with 4.3/4.2 (Roms) was that either you could have the text messages read to you or have the music info, but not both.

Same with my G2 with my aftermarket Sony BT stereo. My Rezound and Note 2 work fine with it on Google Play Music. I'm hoping it's just an update that needs to be sent.
I dont use Play Music, but I do use Slacker and Pandora.
On my Gnex, track information was never working until Android 4.3. My G2 acts the same way that my Gnex did on 4.2.X - you see "unknown" for track, album and artist.
I dont see it working correctly on the G2 until 4.3 is on it either. No fault of LG, it looks like bluetooth is something Google messes with every OS update, "fixing" and "breaking" stuff at the same time.

This also happens for me! I haven't really noticed it with the stock music app. But it definitely happens when using slacker or Pandora. The only thing to help it is to leave my phone plugged in so that the screen stays on since I have that set in developer settings. Then it will update without me having to pause and replay it to send the data. Also the Pandora app control mode in my pioneer xbh5500 doesn't connect with the phone app. So I have to stream it through pure Bluetooth mode. Which is quicker, just I can't thumbs up or down and pick stations through the stereo touch screen.

This is the one thing that Ive always missed in my car being streamed from the phones. But I put most of the fault on the OS, and the rest of it on the fact that I think its impossible to ensure that every piece of hardware implements it exactly the same. At best its a crapshoot and eventually the puzzle pieces fit and it starts working.
With my Gnex, 4.1 in my car would show a menu button but thats it. 4.2 would show a menu button and "Unknown" for track, title and artist data. 4.3 now shows all of the data (but there is another issue introduced that causes the phone to reboot on re-connection)
AFAIK there have been 2 full re-writes of the bluetooth stack in Android 4.x, so clearly Google wont leave well enough alone or realizes its an issue. While Im sure LG stuff on top of that doesnt help, I dont think the bulk of the issue is with LG as much as it is with the OS underneath.
I am unable to stream music by spotify with a successful pairing in a 2012 mustang. What gives? I'm almost ready to return in this pos

Interesting. The bluetooth pairing seems spotty on my Toyota Venza 2010 (it will just all of a sudden pause and not pass the song names to the receiver). We did rent a Hyundai and it seemed to pair and run without any issues. This is really frustrating, about to return the phone too...

I have to admit that I was making a fool of myself. I restarted the car and it now functions as intended.

it is weird since the information is send fine with the stock music player.
now using dogcather for podcasts, the head unit says bluetooth paused but is playing the audio and the volume controls don't work on the headunit.

My understanding from it is that the stock player(s) will work because they were written by the same folks that wrote the bluetooth drivers for the phone (LG, in this case, Samsung in the case of my Gnex). But Slacker, Pandora, etc. probably conform to a different standard, since they cant possibly write the app to work with every different brand of bluetooth device.
And again, add on top of that the fact that Android OS might not be implementing it correctly, and you have a fuster cluck of a moving target.
I do believe it will be corrected, eventually....after 2 yrs it finally got working on my Gnex with 4.3, and I think the G2 will get 4.3 someday so we should see a fix.
Damn it gets annoying to hear life is good whenever I turn my car on

And with podcasts it shows up as device is paused buy it is playing and there is no volume control

I'm even weirder. I have a Panasonic head unit and sometimes it shows a ringtone from someone who called me yesterday, sometimes it shows a song that was on Slacker 4 days ago, and so on. I mostly listen to Slacker or Google Play Music.
My GNex never showed anything even after 4.3
Thank you all for reporting this. I have a HTC One running 4.3 and I use BT a ton. It all works perfectly and I've been thinking of getting the G2 but given these issues I'm definitely not getting it.
Definitely seems to be an issue with G2. On my HTC both on 4.2 and 4.3 Play Music sends proper data to my car and stereo Bluetooth. Controls work perfectly too

What app are you using? Try Pandora or slacker and see if it still works

I'm fine with the quality and don't care about artist info, but it WON'T AUTO PAIR.
I have to manually click my car stereo icon from the bluetooth menu to initiate pairing. After that, it works fine. Not exactly a deal breaker, but man is it annoying to remember.
Also, Viper4Android is pretty incredible. I had no issues with the sound quality coming from an S3, but after Viper I can never go back. It's that good.

BT Metadata - working on Nougat

Just wanted to post an observation regarding BT music streaming metadata..
My 6P is fully stock, no mods, etc.
With MM I could never get music metadata to show up on my car stereo (aftermarket Kenwood). However, on a Parrot BT device it worked, and on several other newer vehicles with OEM bluetooth it would work.
Now that I have upgraded to Nougat, I am finally seeing BT metadata on my Kenwood.
The only issue I noticed yesterday: First song, no info... skip to previous, or next, text shows up. However, the first song will not show text, even if skipping back and forth.
Just thought I would share for those seeing the same issues on MM.
Mine always worked on my Pioneer stereo, it can read my phones name, battery, take and reject calls and display current song album artist and time remaining on song. I'm still on MM but maybe it will work better? Cause sometimes the song won't update on the screen.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I can confirm both experiences the opener had.
*UPDATE*
Within a week or two, my metadata stopped working.
I have not been able to get it to show up again on my radio...

Just to recap: Nexus 6P , no root, no mods
I am just using Play Music.
Sometimes the phone starts playing music automatically, otherwise I need to manually open the app to get music playing.
I get the same issue using Deezer on my stereo, bloody annoying!!
