[Q] Sony Cyber-shot QX10 & QX100 compatible with XZU? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hello everybody,
Sony launched today two new lenses(Sony Cyber-shot QX10 & QX100) for Smartphones. Does someone know if it works on XZU, i mean the back part where you put the XZU between the two plastic lips

Since it will be using the NFC on the XZU to sync, yes it will work.
Sony QX100
As the QX100 uses the same sensor as the Sony RX100 image quality should be excellent.
No flash though ...

100% I will get it.

Already pre-ordered mine from Amazon

I originally thought, when I first heard about these lenses, that the reason Sony didn't put a flash on the ZU was, because these lenses would have a better flash. So, here are the lenses, & still no flash?
Do we need to get a separate flash attachment too now?

Getting the XPeria Z Ultra with this, it will be awesome!
Tomorrow XPeria Z Ultra arrives on stores @ Portugal!
Can't wait to try it heheheh

As i saw the announcement of the DSC QX100 i thought this is the answer why Sony put in the so-so cam into the XZU ... but - as per a german magazine (Link), the mount (like on the picture) of both versions will not fit for the huge XZU.
So it should work (finder, nfc, exchange etc.), but not as one unit.
But i trust Sony would be hardly wrong, if they're not pushing for an updated version, incl. compatibility fro the XZU.

Exactly what I was thinking mate. Everyone is raving about the lenses but with no xenon flash I just don't see the point. Great idea just missing that one feature that would make me buy it over a regular camera. And to all those people who say you don't need the flash well if that was teh case sony wouldn't include a flash in the regular RX 100 II camera now would they?

Sony said that they will make available covers which have mounts for these lenses built into them, at least for all major models.
Just like the one in IFA yesterday, the one Hirai had in his hand (The Z1, back cover with mount built in, which can make-do as normal phonce cover and QX100)

The only defence to the lack of flash on the RX100 I have is this:
French Laundry, Napa, CA
I took these for my wife with a Sony RX100. It was very very dark. Flash was not allowed, as a courtesy to other diners. Notice the white balance and the lack of noise?
Would I prefer it had a flash? Absolutely. But I am confident that even without it the images from this sensor and processing will be stellar.

Fair play I must admit they do look pretty good. Still I think Id rather still have the full RX100, does make the lens only option more palatable mind. Thanks for that :good:

Look at that photo, looks like the Tablet Z, I hope Sony also made something to use those lenses with the Z Ultra.
here is the german page, it says it will work together with the Z Ultra
http://www.sony.de/product/dsc-qx-series/dsc-qx10/passende-produkte#tab
And here the cover:
http://www.sony.de/product/dcc-cases/spa-acx2

I trust Sony is, lets call it willingly ambiguous, stating the compatibility softwarewise and not with view to the mount on the XZU.
From my perspective the ACX2 in an XZU version would be the most decent solution, instead of these two clips.

I would call Sony really stupid, not making the Z Ultra compatible with the QX10/100.
I think the cover is great, will get one together with a QX10.

DP Review First Look at QX100
I'm a bit disappointed that it does not have manual controls or RAW.
I do hope however that the ability to use the new Sony Camera API will mean an application developer will provide RAW and manual support.

From Xperia UK Customer Services:
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre regarding compatible devices.
With regards to your enquiry, there is currently no plans that we are aware of to make the Sony RX100 compatible with the Sony Xperia Z Ultra at this moment in time.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

It's pretty obvious that it'll work with the Ultra isn't it? That lens is mounted on a god damn tablet, so it won't be any problems with the Ultra.

Yes they are compatible
Both QX10 and QX100 are compatible with Sony Xperia Z Ultra...atleast based on this

The mount that ships with the camera is too small. The mount shown with the tablet hasn't been announced confirmed. Also, if you look at it, there's no obvious guarantee that it will go as small as 92mm (smaller than most tablets), so it may be too small.

The cameras are compatible in the sense that you can use the ultra as the viewfinder etc but you can't at present physically clip it to the phone. So, far less useful.

Great phone, terrible camera :(

Just got a RAZR MAXX and I love the handset, screen, build quality, size, weight and battery life, but the camera absolutely sucks. It is beyond dreadful for a phone of this spec/price.
I am thinking it isn't just me because I saw a few threads complaining about this, but also if you compare the sample shots at GSMarena with say the SII and Galaxy Nexus (can't post links) then you can see this camera absolutely sucks, even compared to the 5MP Galaxy Nexus. My own experience is that it is barely acceptable in good daylight (even then the colours and contrast are dreadful) but in artificial light or poor light it is completely hopeless. Also it takes way too long to focus.
Is there anything I can do to improve it or should I just send it back and swap it for something else?
Keep the camera shutter button pressed until you are ready to take a pic. The camera will focus and when you are ready to take the pic just release it.

Yes but the picture it takes is still absolutely terrible - noisy, bad detail, terrible colour reproduction, bad contrast. Seriously, go to GSM Arena and compare the test photos, or grab someone's Samsung/HTC/iPhone and do a few shots yourself - there is just no comparison. I've had 2MP Nokia dumb phones that take better snaps.

I'm not an idiot. I have tried every setting combination and the thing just sucks big time. Have you ever seen the pics from a SII/S|II/4S/any Sony phone? Or done the comparison at GSM Arena? This just doesn't compare - it is embarrassingly bad. As bad as my old Acer Liquid MT and that is a £120 phone.

I know, sorry, I'm just gutted because I love everything else about the handset (it is an amazing design) and prefer it above all other current handsets, but the camera is just such a massive let down. I'm going to take it back tomorrow and see if I can exchange it... probably go for a Xperia S which was my original choice but I was put off by the crappy plastic design, lack of SD slot, and stupid flap over the USB port.
I should have stuck to my original choice but the MAXX turned my head!!

Instead if attacking the guy, read his post. He asked if there were any known fixes or should he exchange it. That is the problem I'm seeing in the RAZR forums, to many people just flaming each other instead of helping.
As to your question, there is something with the compression that moto used, and a post on how to fix it. Not sure were, but search the forum and you should find it. Not sure if it will help you, but it did seem to help my photo quality. You could also try camera ics from the market or any other third party to see if it helps.

Thanks dude. I have tried other apps, and I don't much like the look of the patch and suspect it wouldn't help as I don't believe it is a JPEG compression issue... more a sensor/lense/hardware issue so there is a limit to how much any software processing can help. Absolutely gutted as I love the handset but it's going to have to go back - my main reason to update from the Acer was for a better camera and this just doesn't cut it.
From looking around seems the best cameras are on SII/SIII and Xperia S. The Xperia has many other drawbacks though which means I might end up with a SIII which is annoying because I hate having the same phone as everyone else
I honestly think Motorola were SO CLOSE with the handset. Maybe the HD will have a better camera.
No problem just figured I'd offer some suggestions. I figured you had tried them already, but you never know. So of I was you I would choose the s3, at least it's comparable to the Maxx.

I figured out that the pictures quality is more better with another rom. Just with Black Widow AOKP Rom the pictures are much better than the other pictures taken with ICS stock rom.
do u mean is bad when u view it on the phone? cause when i transfer them to a pc or a tv there just average, i dont say they are good but there are just average 8mp pic. the difference with the nexus 5mp is when u zoom
That's interesting about the rom influencing image quality.
I was, and still am a bit impressed by the camera quality on the dinc, and I bought my Dare in part based on the lens/mp, but that was before I was more educated in photography. I'm by no means impressed by the Razr's camera, but knowing it's a cell phone, I see the camera as a convenience. I generally carry my canon s95 just in case, and will have one of my nikon's on hand if I know I'll be shooting. The razr's IQ may be sub par compared to other phones, but if my photos are a priority, I'm not looking to my phone as my camera.
Agreed. The camera is my biggest complaint with my maxx. I have a few third party camera apps but the quality is still lacking.
I'm gonna search for that patch mentioned earlier in the thread.
Stock ICS /w Root and some kernel tweaks.

I don't really think that the kernel modules are responsible for the picture quality..

I took a ton of photos yesterday in different conditions and with different lighting. Uploaded them to my PC and the results weren't good. It is very strong at close-up shots in good light which give really excellent detail and colours, but any long, mid-range, motion, or low light shots are extremely poor in comparison to the latest offerings from Sony/Samsung/HTC.
In the end I swapped it for a Galaxy S3, which I reluctantly admit is an awesome bit of kit.

I had the Samsung Charge before the Razr Maxx, and I loved the Charge's camera. The Razr's camera isn't that bad, I don't know what you're talking about. Here's a picture I just took of my dog:

Xperia Z Ultra Short Review

My Xperia Z Ultra short review.
Build Quality: Damn solid! obvious better than Z.
Screen Panel: The best I ever seen so far, no more viewing angle issue. Equal or even better than HTC One.
Loud Speaker: Slightly better than Z but still too soft.
Performance: Snapdragon 800 & Adreno 330 really is monster! wow! Awesome performance! Heavy 3D games had no issue playback smoothly even turn on the 4xAA at Developer options. Example games I test out include Real Racing & Despicable Me.
Interface: Currently same as Z one, it is old UI, not the new one as advertise during press. They is no X-Reality support yet, and also cannot open more than one Small Apps. The stylus input is kind of gimmick also for now, not as seen at press where can use everywhere.

All retail unit in whole world now still running at old UI, include wherever I seen unboxed from Hong Kong, Thailand and my country Malaysia. None is support X-Reality also, only came with Bravia Engine 2 now.
Xreality ETA is sept as per Sony. Guessing the rest of the UI will also be updated then
nice !!!
but i was hoping that the widgets would cover the screen (walkman widget is short ).. i assume other sony widgets are not covering the entire length
14.1.B.1.414 and onwards will have the new UI and X-Reality display.

Thanks buddy, thats good news. I do prefer to apply a screen protector.

What's your reason for getting this beast that is XZU?

I thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's thoughts since the Z Ultra is more of a niche device.
For me, it's mainly because of the screen size as I wanted something more of a small tablet. I was deciding between this and Nexus 7 FHD LTE but ultimately went with the Z Ultra. Expandable memory was a huge factor in this. Plus I want to try out Sony again. I like them.
So what's your reason?

Had a Nexus 7 2012 and a htc sensation, my sensation died and started to feel annoying by always have to carrying both phone and tab. Started to look for a phablet and found the XZU, meanwhile I saw the specs of the new n7 and got really disappointed. The XZU is the ultimate phablet, no real competitors yet (galaxy mega is too far behind). Sony really worked on the build quality, and this is a real plus, plastic devices can't be call a high-end devices.

Well, I wanted to get the biggest device out there because my fingers are quite fat. I'm not saying that I'm fat but my hands are ..well ..kind of wide and thick. 4,7 inches is just to small for my hands.
I am forever a crackberry user after having the 9900 before my One X and the Bold series is hands down the best devices for typing on. But they are small, and BB phones are..just very boring.
Why I chose SONY and to continue with android is because the user friendly unlocking process of the bootloader just like HTC without using some exploit or bug. And I got a bit too comfortable with the idiot safe and too stable HTC devices and roms. I had the Desire PVT4, One X endeavour and now my dad got the silver HTC One which I'm in charge of flashing new roms and updates on so naah, I wanted to try something new and exciting with premium built quality! :fingers-crossed:
Hello, I will order my XZU in a few days. I already got a 6,44" Smartphone and im happy with its size, its perfectly fits in my jeans pocket and in my hands so i wouldn't have any problems with the size of the XZU. It is waterproof, looks pretty good and it have the snap800 thats why i decided to order it.
The camera isn't a problem in my eyes, when i want to take high quality pictures then i dont use a smartphone.
I had the Galaxy Note, and it was time to move on, so i was looking for something with a big screen. I first wanted the Xperia Z, since i really like Sony's Omni Balance design, but the screen just ruined the whole thing for me, so i checked the HTC One out, but the screen is too small. I had no idea after that, so i waited and suddenly Sony announced the Ultra, and i checked out their ad, and i started laughing since it's so huge. I dismissed it on the spot and continued with my day. A couple of days later i though about it again and i checked some more videos of it, and i suddenly said to myself, "i must have it". And that pretty much it.
Why didn't i go with the Note 3? I've had a Note for almost two years, and i wanted to leave Samsung. They are stuck IMO, and the only thing they keep pushing out now are big or small versions of an existing product, and they are still shoving crap into TouchWiz. No thanks.

Not to mention ATT looks like they locked the bootloader on Note 3. Not sure if Tmo did the same, but it looks like they share the ATT LTE bands. I still felt that the C6806 with LTE on ATT and larger screen is better than any other device.
I come from the Note 2 and have been maintaining TWRP on the Note1 ATT and all Note 2 devices. I want to see if I can use motochopper on the C6806 since I don't trust vroot as much.
I just really wanted a small fast tablet with FHD, went round them all and finally the XZU emerged; some only dual core, some low res, some no expandable storage. Albeit the XZU is designed to be primarily a phone first, as a tablet it also excels at getting the job done. I travel internationally for work purpose, often to destinations way off the grid such as Borneo, so space is always an absolute premium.
Of course the display, I have never owned a mobile device that literally people comment on the quality of the image reproduction, especially films. Maybe I lucked out, equally I have not seen better on a mobile.
My only concern is 16Gb, bigger aps, ever larger data 32Gb should be the default on premium products. As the Galaxy Note 3 now comes with 32Gb as default it`s simply a matter of time before others follow suit, my only concern is the XZU is such a niche product it may not sustain...

i sold my Galaxy Mega, and my ZU arrives tomorrow... i got bored with Samsungs design a while ago and decided to go with Sony, the design looks really good and solid, cant wait to unbox it!
This unit is like a piece of fine art with TWO world records, Biggest smartphone and Smallest tablet. you got the Best of both world !!!
Humongous screen
And slim profile
Definitely a head turner

I doubted first but now saw I wanted it.the screen the style, the waterresistant. And fellow xdaers have convinced me, Spidey and Lord M

Right! My Note feels like something from Toys R Us now. When you buy an Ultra, you'll get what you pay for; quality build. When you buy a Samsung, you get a plastic duck with a lot of gestures.

Yes, they're really good at hardware specs, but not the hardware itself and the software. Plastic and TouchWiz doesn't scream "i paid top dollar for this". When i buy a Porsche i expect the best interior, exterior and performance. Samsung is good at performace. They are the Corvette of the mobile world, awesome performance but ****ty build quality (Corvettes are 101% plastic). Sony is the Aston Martin. Stylish, really fast (and expensive).
Not saying that Sony is perfect, because they're not, but they're the closest i'll get to high performace, openess and build quality in one device.

Alpha VS Sony Z3 (No compact)

Hello I got an alpha 850M and I wanted to know if its good to change it for a Sony Z3 + 80 US. Would you do it? Why yes or why not to? :good::good:

Hi all
I'm sorry xerox but after hard playing on asphalt 8, i get this result.
And your result is take when the CPU is tested with a stress test, not in real utilisation.
So keep the alpha
Its up to you. I've had all the Sony line up (ive had pretty much all Android flagships except the Alpha, which I just bought last week). The Sony will heat up and after use for 4-6 months beit from charging overnight or playing games and the back will become loose meaning it is not waterproof. the phone will still work though so that's up to you. I just did not like the loose back which Sony have only fixed on the Z5. Another thing is if you do wear skinny jeans the phone does start to creak after a while after being under stress from you moving around.
I love my little Alpha and build quality is brill. Both phones are really snappy but I prefer developing stuff for Samsungs with Exy chips.
This is all from experience and not someone who hasn't tried the phone. I do like the Sonys though and have development quite a few ROMs for them

Hello thx for the opinion. I need to ask in terms of performance , camera, and th and build quality screen etc you still preffer Alpha?
The display on the alpha is an amoled type which is good for viewing under sunlight and in normal place i think it produced unreal color(I always switch to basic mode) but the Z3 has an Ips display which is not really good under sunlight but in normal place i think the color is pretty decent(Prefer the z3).The performance of the snapdragon 801 is better than the exynos on the alpha(prefer the z3).The camera on both is pretty decent and can capture 4k video(prefer the z3).Both have a 32gb internal memory but the z3 has an expandable memory card(prefer the alpha 32gb is enough for me).The alpha use touchwiz which has full of bloatware and it use alot of ram,the z3 use sony UI which has very little bloatware and lighter than touchwiz (prefer CyanogenMod). Dev support for the alpha is suck because it use exynos processor (no driver plus not alot of dev use the alpha) and the z3 has tons of roms to flash beside there are alot of dev keep developing a rom for that device .Both probably get an official android marshmallow update from their manufacturer. For the design I prefer the Alpha design(Cus I've use the Z1 compact before and the design on the z3 is pretty much the same). The Alpha has fingerprint sensor the Z3 doesnt, the z3 is waterproof the alpha doesnt.Decided by your self

Hi
For me the Alpha is in the best 2014 phones.
Good photos,
VERY VERY GOOD performance with his octo core Exynos 5430 processor ( For me Exynos 5430 is besser than S801 )
The screen is very good for a 720p and the built quality is excellent, no cracks or shocks after one year.
You can make your choice

Any owners of the new UMIDIGI Z1 pro? any reviews?

I am thinking of buying the new Z1 pro. Have not seen any real reviews. Is this phone good to buy? Any thoughts from owners?

The PROCESSOR is the same as you think the z's root method works?
Just wait a little longer.
I will not buy a device from UMIDIGI before I have read a detailed and INDEPENDENT test.
UMIDIGI always promises very much, but can not keep much of it.

I'm also undecided between z1 and ASUS Zenfone 3, which seems to me to be more solid as a reputation, but UMIDIGI seems to have, on paper, good catheterization.
Yes, on the paper the devices of UMIDIGI are good.
In reality, however, it looks different.
At the UMI Super it was called the display is Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
That was a fake.
In the UMI community, so many people have reported about their broken display.
Better spend a few more Euros and buy the device of a well-known brand.
The displays of UMIDIGI break relatively quickly and no one in Europe will install you a new one.
There is no service here.

In fact, what brakes me is that there is no reviews around and then, since I'm a flashaoilic, I did not find anything interesting about
Here you will find a lot of information about the Z1 Pro.

You can also look in the other forums and read what the customers write about other UMIDIGI devices.
So you get a good impression what you expect when you buy a device of this brand.

Thanks for suggesting zenfone 3. Same price bracket and very good specs if not the best. I think I will go for Asus. Only thing i may miss is Dual camera system for the bokehs.
For me the bokeh mode is just a nice gimmick.
A good single camera, which makes good pictures even in poor light conditions, I find much more important.
There's better options and no root for z pro, camera is OK and bokeh as said is gimmick.
Support is lousy from UmiDigi also ROMs have pretty much no extras included to tweak. Thing twice
Redskull reviewed the Z1 / pro on youtube and is not soo impressed. Especially for the current price:

In my opinion UMIDIGI produces one smartphone after another and does this in too high frequency without any good quality.
Just spend your money on a better brand. If you're into Chinese phones, buy a Xiaomi (for good camera quality the Mi5s for example).

Damn this phone is horrible for the price.
Heck, vernee mars pro which has a faster CPU costs less than this.
I would switch to a better known brand.
I have the impression that many of the Chinese smartphones come from the same factory.
Look at the UMIDIGI Z Pro, Ulefone Gemini Pro and NOA H10.

This is no coincidence.
Never ever buy a umidigi phone !
Adds look good ! all reviews are paid.
Umidigi has very bad developers in their team, every rom has new and bigger buggs. And the problems never get fixed.
Every phone has huge battery drain + bad camera because of bad optimized software.
The sourcecode is not opensource, so you can not get custom roms of devs that know how to make one.
Your stuck with those stupid guys from umidigi who can't make roms and are fckn slow. Also they delete every negativ review/post.

I totally agree with you.
I just bought the Z1 Pro and how disappointed I'm am, I can almost cry!
They seem good on paper but rubbish in real life.
I made this mistake for not investigating more about this make.
It's a hard way of learning your lesson!
No one should but and Umidigi phone ever!
Keep away!
---------- Post added at 05:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ----------
By the way, I'd like to ask this please:
Can anyone tell me if a phone with a double camera if you put your finger on top on each of the lenses, should the image on the screen always be blocked on both of the lenses?
The reason I'm asking is because this only happens on my Umidigi Z1 Pro on one of the lenses only so I'm thinking that the other lense is only there as a gimmick or its fake!
Can this be possible?
By the way the picture quality is so bad it's unbelievable!
As an owner of Z pro I say save your money - Don't buy UMIDIGI phone (not this model and not other model)
Software includes many bugs and there is no decent support
They fix one bug and add 2 new

I speak as an ignorant user.
From what I know, bokeh effect requires 2 cameras?
So I tried bokeh effect first covering the lens on the left (if you're looking at the lens) and then with both lenses open.
From the gallery, the first image had the refocus option greyed out. For the second, (file name included "STEREO"),I could refocus the picture.
So I assume from this that both cameras on my Umidigi Z pro is real and present.
Sorry if the picture is blurred - I don't have really steady hands.
