However, take that review with a grain of salt. It is a review on an Apple Fan Site.

This reviewer must be high. This is my 5th Android device and it is the best one so far. I am an AOKP or AOSP guy, but LG has little features that I find extremely useful.
LG is good with copying, like how they copied the Picture in Picture camera before Samsung released it, or how they copied the floating apps which Samsung dont even use.
Anyways, you cant win a review by everyone, there will always be biased people out there ^^
Btw, does the buttons on the side go white even if you have it set to black in full screen? Or is he just that hateful?

The guy is a hack. I'm not even convinced he used the device for more than five minutes.
He claims that it has "even more useless features than Touchwiz", which isn't even close to being true. And he's apparently too stupid to figure out how to use KnockOn, because I have no issues with it.
His entire rant (I refuse to call it a review) is centered around LG's interface. To be honest, I just don't think he's smart enough to use it because I have no problems with it and actually appreciate some of the features it adds.
One that I really appreciate is the ability to send a video as an MMS (without recording it as one). Record video => Share to messaging => Prompt asks you if you want to trim it because it's too large => Say "okay", then, rather than trim it, just click "done". I twill compress the video to 3gp quality and send. Yes, it's pixelated, but at least you can send it. Most android phones simply tell you that it's too big and refuse to let you send.
LG is the ONLY manufacturer besides Apple who lets you do this currently. It's a small thing, but it makes me happy and I wouldn't give it up.
Its almost hilarious the bias of the comments that are getting approved as well. Clearly he has a bone to pick.
Thanks guys like I said there's too much to like on this phone and some features like the volume and display on the notification bar suck but otherwise this phone is a beast and its the perfect size.
The gizmodo clown was probably in the middle of doing one of those ridiculous alcohol articles that they do every week!
I come from Nexus devices, and that dude is a straight retard. The phone is unusable with this interface? Stick to iPhones , it seems that's all your simple mind can handle.

That wake up alarm is one for the Disney crowd or serial killers.......
I could see his point of view in the review.
I looked at the phone and yes, the first thing I do on any phone is install Swiftkey.
I also spend hours and hours getting everything right on the phone and strip away all the stuff that is setup for morons.
I never use the factory email programs and always use Touchdown for work and K9 for home email.
I use WeatherBug Elite for weather widgets and a bunch of other stuff.
I think the phone could be usable, but you will need to spend some time.
If you are looking for a clean out of the box experience, I'd have to agree with Gizmodo, look somewhere else.
On the other hand, if you want a screaming piece of hardware, look no further.

It literally takes 5 minutes to set the phone up and get rid of the features you don't want. I have none of the notification bar issues because I stripped them down. Install the Google keyboard and whatever widgets you want. If you are suggesting that the phone isn't usable out of the box, I'm going to question your choice in user names.

I surely wouldn't recommend not buying this phone to anyone. But.. Nothing he said is that far off. This device is not far from being a masterpiece, but the software does suck. Some of the things he said such as the navigation bar can be changed in the settings, so I'm not completely sure what he's talking about. I also thought the keyboard was junk and their version of Swype was even worse. He didn't even get into the throttling portion, or how the issues with the camera and some shots it floods out in lighter conditions.
I mean you may love the device, I did. But there are many nuances in the software, like the folders opening into little squares that the app titles take up 2 lines. I'm surprised he didn't mention that...
It's a good thing Loki works and we can put vanilla android on it soon, because it really will be an epic device at that point.

I don't have an issue. I modify every device I get. My first operation out of the box is unlock or root. Then I start the process. I was talking about those that do not want to setup a home screen, etc. Remember most people that had VCRs had them flashing 12:00 from the time they got them until the thing died.

I'm looking for an app I can install on my wife's phone that is hidden so that I can see where she is or has been via cell towers or gps. Doesn't need to be real time but I need to know if she has been where I think she has been. She is pretty dumb when it comes to her phone but has never had gps enabled and would probably notice the enabled icon. I'm pretty confident she is cheating on me and just need to know for sure before I confront her. Is there such an app?
I don't need a lot of features. Basically location history. Some place called spectorsoft has something but it is $70. ANy freebies out there?

Just go to Google maps and sign her up on Latitude. Latitude will tell you where she was and is. Then after that, install Dexrex on her phone and you can see any, and all, texts she sends and receives. The best part is that it's all free. Then you can use Overview (which used to be free) to do similar things. Also, if you want to catch her on your PC, just install a keylogger.
Does she have Android smartphone? If she have, you can find such apps on Market. I needed that type of app before but unfortunately, we haven't got android on all device. Google Latitude is good too.

Tasker is an amazing app. Not any type of tracking system specifically. But you can create a set of profiles and tasks where you could do something like send a txt to her. Something like "I love you." Or "how are you" or something inconspicuous. You can then program it to, upon recieving said message, turn on GPS for 1min, get a lock on her location and txt you back her location and then shut off GPS. You can also make it so if she looks back into her chat log. It won't show that her phone automatically sent that txt with her where a bouts.
I have something similar in case my phone is ever lost/stolen. Except my setup will also lock the phone, flash the leds, the camera flash, and make a loud noise.
Or you could just sit her down and talk about it....she will appreciate you more, because if she finds the apps you install.....theirs nothing worse than denying it was you who installed them (lying to her) when you have no proof she is lying to you. Your situation is nothing that can't be sorted out by talking about it. Have you got concrete evidence she's playing away? If you don't trust her....I'd learn to and quick because lack of trust is a killer for all relationships. Don't snoop around fishing dude....talk to her!

I have teenagers, so I definitely know where your coming from. My solution is an annual subscription (I think $12 per year, no more than $19.99) is "WaveSecure" by McAfee. Which I do admit if I EVER lost my phone, it is a blessing to have! I can go to a certain locked website by McAfee and not only be able to see where my phone is (without the user knowing) but I can lock it and send a alarm with a custom message. I can even pull pics and content from it. And you can't get into it or uninstall it once its set up on phone without a 6 digit password. Its mainly used if you have you phone stolen. It even notifies me if the SIM card is removed!

Damn kids get smart like that.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that one. I think Lookout (free) can do the same. Well, it can give you the location of the device, but it can't take pictures like WaveSecure.

Cerberus from the market. Once installed and configured, can be set to be invisible in the app drawer.
You can also record audio and take pictures remotely with it! Be sure to silence the camera first though!

I would check your local laws before doing this. I believe it is illegal. I believe there was a recent case where a husband did something similar and was held on wiretapping charges. I do believe it was key logging and not cell phone tracking.

Theft aware... 7 day trial, hidden, and if she is rooted you can hide the gps icon. Location is sent via hidden sms and you can get calls and texts forwarded to your phone.
It's not good to spy on people, especially your wife. But hey, it's your choice. Hopefully she isn't having an affair so best of luck.

Playbook was a flop but its screen overlay was very impressive and praised alot because it was one of the most interesting features of that device. well now this is coming to Android and might be integrated into future devices also. can't wait to get this app. very clean and slick looking. plus not a pain to set up like Hubs. IMO this is like Hubs taken to the next level. even has face unlock for having different profiles. just like a PC. so your kid or someone else could open it up and have their own profile and be limited to what kinds of things they can access based on what you allow. +1..Hubs looks too complicated and/or time consuming to set up, just watching the youtube video instructions made me quit. I would gladly pay for something like this in a heartbeat. I can imagine an Ipad owner sitting across from me watching this in action while they just scroll through enlarged icons. Android for life!!

I really hope it will be. but if this is as good as they describe in the article, then this might go deeper than what an app could provide. might be something that has to be integrated into the framework. Regardless if its integrated into future Android devices, our great developers here should be able to easily integrate it into their roms. or maybe make the Chameleon overlay a flash able zip or something. I really hoping for a simple app install though..lol. we will have to see how this turns out. this could be a game changer for android. I love the hubs look but way too much involved to set it up. this is something that would be implemented easily and not need as much time setting it up. plus it would be slick moving and look better.
this kind of reminds me of that cornerstone multitasking setup. but integrated as a homesceen UI.
they do say though that they want OEM's to support it so essentially it would be like sense or blur as it will be integrated.

Tracking my expenses is something I always wanted to do, but taking out my phone every time I buy something is a little bit too high effort, so that habit never developed. Trying to solve this problem for myself and hopefully other people would find it useful as well.
Unfortunately I am unable to post links since I am new to this forum, but I advise searching for "Wear Finance" on the Play Store to find it (my app hits first result normally).
What do you think of the concept and usecase? Any tips on UX/UI? I am also planning to implement categories (labels), import/export and other functionality. Which are the most crucial features do you think app is missing?

Would you use it for tracking day-to-day expenses? (e.g. restaurants, grocery, basically everything that is not recurring like rent/subscriptions and more difficult to track and estimate).

I would use it mainly when I am on vacation, just came back from a weeks vacation.
It be nice to have a running count on how much the vacation is costing me.
Day to day expenses not sure but you know it maybe nice to see how much I am spending say for coffee each day.

The most important features to me in an expense tracker are:
Categories - and ability to view how much has been spent in each category compared to eachother (i.e. in a pie chart) and to do this by month, year, and all-time.
Compare total amount spent between different months
A nice feature but not necessary would be to compare how much was spent on a certain category between months. i.e. for the category "Food" how much was spent in July vs June vs May etc. Visualisation with a graph would be a nice touch.

I have been testing Slidejoy for a month now and I think it deserves to be shared. I know not everyone can stand having ads on their phone, but I really didn't find it intrusive. I tested various other advertisement apps, and this one is my favourite so far.
Here is the concept : The app creates a lockscreen (I deactivated my android lockscreen otherwise I have two) and displays ads on it. You don't have to click or read anything, you just swype to the right and it disappears. By doing that, you gain littles diamonds every day (I made 350 this month) and the next month, they become bankable (100=1$). You can choose to be paid on Paypal but there are others solutions.

I totally understand that point of view, but I think you should give it a little bit more perspective. When you are browsing on the internet, even though you might use an adblocker, you still see a hell of a lot of sponsored contents, and you see it for free.
Now I know some people love their lockscreen and they wouldn't change it for some bucks. But considering the amount of advertisement everyone of us sees every day, getting 3,5$ a month (42$ a year, that pays two months of mobile communication for me) sounds like a pretty good deal
Love the concept, but prefer battery life over the money.

Well, there's not much to worry about regarding the battery, I did'nt notice any drain and when I check the battery stats, it's never above 3-4%
What could be more annoying is data consumption, and I can't say anything about that because I have a big plan (50Gb LTE), so I never check

Not for me. I would love to see less advertising... All this trash surrounding me everyday. A city for me is a living space not a surface to place ads. Too much ads disrupting the place we live everywhere I don't get anything for, but have to look at this ugly trash anytime. I won't add those ads to those little spaces where I gladly don't get spammed by ads. For just a few cents. Just no.
Still everyone should do how he/she likes but for me personally I find it kinda scary to see people voluntarily exposing themselves to such stimulus satiation (which is even causing serious mental injuries to not only a few people btw.) everywhere they go and look at. It would be much nicer to see more trees than more ads. Ads just make me sick and I'd love to see not one single ad anywhere... These few bucks aren't worth it (one whole year watching these ads isn't even enough for the weekly shopping at the mall once... and you call this a good deal? Really?). A very low price for invading and disrupting your private spaces.
Still, as already mentioned, everyone is free to do what he/she wants...

1)more battery drain, so you have to charge your phone few times more, so much more electricity.
2)spam on you phone
3)other app with permissions installed
4)privacy less than before

1) The additional drain on your battery should'nt even be noticeable... less than 5%
2) Spam yes, indeed, that' the principle of it all...
3) I did not get shocked with permissions it asked for
4) There's no privacy on an android device ahah
Just a little update regarding the money, I do little surveys sometimes and I happen to make more than 3 euros now, more like 10 per month. I made roughly 50 euros since the beginning of 2016 no regrets!

Nothing wrong with a bit of extra coin I made another $3 this month with zero effort
Possible workaround for this app
So I have also had this app for a while and I see a lot of potential with it. I was wondering if it was possible(via app or some other way) to lock your screen without actually turning off your phone.
Pressing the power button to lock it will turn off or sleep your phone*
So basically if there is a way to press something and go straight to the lockscreen without worrying about it turning off or sleeping.
What do you think? Since MM Doze never really officially worked, Nougat's "enhanced" Doze barely works.
I'm wondering what happend to Google? They release half working internal official releases. Has the Developers been there too long? Too tired to care make something great? Or is Google just hiring Developers that want to get their foot in the door with no experience?
Just something to think about as I'm seeing a fall in android which is very disappointing, I mean after 5 previews and an offical release you really cannot fix the Android System bug thats using same % as screen? Pretty embarrassing on Google if you ask me.

There is no such "fall" in Android. As far as I know, pretty much everything is rising.

Google's not perfect but they allow indie developers freedom. Steve Jobs wanted the ipad to be an extension of the user but then he had specific ideas for how that user should behave. Apple says we know whats best for you, while Google says "go ahead and get that tatoo. We might think its a poor decision but its your body!"
Ill stop rambling here. I like freedom and SOMETIMES that means things wont always go smooth.

google sucks they treat their user base as a bunch of alpha testers
they never fix anything , they are a bunch of cheap money grubbers who will not spend money to hire people from the first world none of their developers can even be toilet trained how do you expect them to be able to be trained to develop software?
of course the low level 3rd world developers are not even nearly as bad at the higher ups who are supposed to be managing and designing
nothing they do makes any sense they are all a bunch of severely autistic retarded sperglords with zero real world social skills or experience
besides them leaving critical things broken for months to years like FRP and google maps navigation
they just are very poor at design in general and lack any common sense
everything they do is @SS backwards AF
most basic common sense features are not even included , whenever they do do something right they decide to make change for the sake of change and break it again

IOS is more polished and they do not put out releases in an alpha state though
and both of these companies are getting suckier and suckier by the minute
removing features instead of adding more and screwing over consumers and their user bases
and the fan boys on both sides just beg for more abuse , oh yes remove my SD slot , my removable battery , my IR blaster, my headphone jack ,my front facing stereo speakers, a ton of useful software features,
just take my money you can do no wrong

Please edit your post and remove the comment about Cancer and Aids. That line was completely uncalled for and extremely inappropriate. Also please edit out the cuss words you have in your post that you masked from the editor. It's against XDA policy as we have kids that come on here. If you want to cuss, please use the * symbol on your keyboard.
While I understand your strong feelings towards Google, may I ask why such strong feelings? Were you passed up on being hired by them? It's just that it's not every day you get to see someone post such strong words against a company that they merely purchased or didn't purchase products from. Seems like there's some personal stuff going on there.

Nothing like completely biased, unsubstantiated, blanket claims. You can easily like or dislike anything about Google or Android, but to just say they know nothing about design demonstrates your absolute ignorance on digital design or how it is accomplished.

i can give specific examples of glaringly obvious bad design mistakes ,but of course they will never be fixed
googles multi user account system implemented in lolipop is just awful
here is why
there is no way to hand off ownership account status to another user ,you have to wipe and factory restore the device, i found this out when setting up a tablet for a parent with my account and having to start over
but why? this makes no sense what so ever , all they had to do is just make an option to transfer ownership account status to another user account on the device, log in under primary owner account go to settings, select pass ownership status to another user select user, there done would that have been so hard?
also multi user relies on lock screen passwords instead of just prompting for the google user account password to switch between users on the device, forcing everyone using the device to use a lock screen password and to enter it every time the device goes to sleep, this is very annoying especially when using a tablet which the multi user account was ostensibly designed to be used for since typically you do not share a phone, it just makes no sense at all
also smart lock trusted devices is another mess
i figured i would just use my mi band to unlock the tablet then,but even when you set up a trusted device to use smartlock it just disables itself after "inactivity" so after few hour you have to reset it again ,no option to keep it the way you set it, turned on
it's just common sense things like this that get really annoying
also no inversion of volume rocker buttons when in landscape mode
little common sense things like this
a company with unlimited funds and unlimited resourced should not be making ridiculously obvious design mistakes like these
nor should they be leaving such major things broken for years like google maps navigation and FRP security

how am i biased when i just said IOS is just as bad, i said the whole industry is headed in a bad direction
samsung, HTC, apple, all of them are making bad decisions
Doze is outstanding in Nougat. I got 5+ hours of SoT over a 38 hour period so yes, obviously, Nougat is total crap and Doze doesn't do anything...

...I do find it amazing that I can get endurance like that with no, as in zero, attempt to optimize battery drain (WiFi on, GPS on high, adaptive display on, BT on, bone stock, no root, etc.) while others are reporting problems. Regardless, all I can go by is that my 6P is not only just the best phone I ever had (last one was Note 5 that go worse with MM), it got even better with Nougat!
