We'll will you look at that. Right at the top of the label it says it. I had not noticed before that the cover didn't
Have it on the back. Good to know.

yeah, same here
I didn't noticed it until after I ordered extra spare batteries.
Good thing is I ordered the real stuff, not the aftermarket made in china ones, that Does NOT have the NFC

how about hyperion 6400 mah sold on amazon and ebay? this battery have nfc built-in?

not a fan of those THICK batteries, i like how the phone is thin and light weight.
the Thick batteries are great for those that wants long run time and /or doesn't mind the weight + thickness.
i rather carry spare batteries with me, and swap it when it runs out, mainly to keep compatibility with all the leather cases, belt clips, covers, etc...

I always get them from ebay, make sure you choose reputable sellers, the ones from Korea are the most Trusted.
look for authentic, genuine, and look for the packaging and labels, check the amount of sold, time and price.
if you see something that says OEM but only cost you $5.99 ... obviously fake when the phone is this new. you only see those prices after 2 or 3 years after the phone is released.

Do people even use NFC? What's it good for? Does anyone use Google Wallet or do any payment things with their phones?

It's not only used for payments.. as a matter of fact, I'd say the payment portion of the nfc ability is used the least. It's used to automate things such as pairing devices and trigger events.

Yep I use it. Use it with NFC tags for some actions, use it to connect my wifes phone and mine, used it to pair my Galaxy Gear,

NFC is always built into the battery. It has never been built directly into the phone.

That's an incorrect statement. The Note 2 was built into the back cover not the battery, just so you know.

That's surprising. I'm used to the S3 and S4 which had the NFC built in to the battery and I would have assumed Samsung would use the same method with all of their devices. So when I read this title, I'm like "duh", but now I understand why the OP made this topic.

And after looking at the OP's sig, That reminds me that the Note 1 had NFC on the back cover too. So I think that's what surprised him/her. I didn't use NFC at the time when I had the Note 1 and 2 but now I do. But if you don't mind alittle modding, I believe the "top" set of gold prongs are for external based NFC antennas.

Nfc chip is in the battery on the galaxy nexus just so you know.

my wife and I bump photos via NFC all the time. i use an NFC tag to set my phone for car use. every once in a while i see and NFC poster. NFC would replace QR codes so no need to open the bar code scan app. sadly, because apple refuses to adopt NFC, the industry that serves the idevices won't utilize it more. but apple will develop similar if not copied tech, make it proprietary, charge too much, and it will be revolutionary.

I honestly haven't the foggiest what it's meant for either... I'm fairly sure I've never used it.
All I know is that it trips the hell out of my public transport card if I turn it on.

Various 3rd party batteries also have NFCs built-in.
No need to be a shill for OEM products.

Best Buy Free Case

Has anyone gotten a look at the Best Buy case that comes free with the Note pre-order?
I was wondering if there is a screen protector included. I'm going to assume there is none unless someone has seen one.
Assuming it's the same as the international (which I believe it is), I don't see a screen protector.

Thanks for the link, that was the worst review ever, but it was good to see what I'm getting. It looks very similar to the pics on BB. I really want a rugged case(i.e. Ballistic, Trident, Otterbox). But I'll take what I can get.

Best Buy rep
I stopped by best buy and asked the rep if the case would support NFC she looked at me like a deer in headlights and had no idea what NFC was she got another rep and asked him and he said NFC is on the Note but does not work yet I I told him I knew that already and wanted to know if the free case worked with NFC since the antenna for it is on the back of the case that comes with it he had no idea and asked his manager 15mins later the manager came out and said he had no idea yet he would think it would but could not say for sure since they aren't here yet he tried to find more info on his computer but found nothing so Best Buy doesn't even know yet the free case isn't turning out to be that much of a plus anymore.
The fact it's a flip case basically eliminated any interest I might have had in the BB deal for the Note. I can understand having a flip case for a tablet....but for a phone, I would find it as a hassle. I'm still gonna settle for a regular case, most likely a TPU one.

We got no info on the actual flip case from corporate. It was a deal struck with samsung and bby corporate and has nothing to do with the retail level associates. Right now they are sitting in a warehouse waiting for distribution. Im sure they will be in before release. If they are there by wednesday I can give everyone a definite answer. After that Im on vacation
I doubt these were made for the ATT model. If they are the ones that were already made, it will not work as the nfc is not in the back like the ATT model.
One the bright side it was free and nfc is not yet enabled.

I played with one at AT&T for about 20 minutes today and I really didn't like the flip case on it. It felt very cheap. I've played with another one from someone's international Note and it was much sturdier. I hope the one Best Buy gives out is more solid, but I got a feeling its not.

Felt like cheap cardboard to me. Like I could have easily bent or snapped it. The one I played with for the international note had hard plastic and looked nice as well. Hopefully the best buy one will be like the international one and not the cheap crap I saw at the AT&T store.

Galaxy S2 i777 Powerskin Battery

Have anyone tried one of these here? Do they feel nice? Battery lasts as long as an OEM? Do they look too bulky? Makes the phone too thick? Thats one of the reasons why i haven't bought an extender battery, i hate how the phone looks with an extender battery. I can't find much feedback on internet for the GS2 with that case. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Universal for all GS2's ?
No thanks. wont fit correctly. gs2's are NOT the same size. the difference is minimal, but with cases, even a mm difference will cause an improper fit.

Hmm. Where does it says universal? It says i777, i9100 & i9103. Which to my knowledge, they are the same size...
Another concern that i have is that the thing won't cause more heat, because an external battery causing heat plus an internal one causing more heat...well, you see where im going.

Anyway, difference is that the i777 is .4mm thicker and .7mm taller. Acording to GSMArena.

I wouldnt try it unless they have a very open return policy. Hell even then, Im not a fan of "universal"
And no, for an extended battery, the battery has to be larger, for that will require another door.
unless someone has found a way to pack the cells tighter without straining the battery. That IDK. but I will say that batteries have came along way in the recent years.
Check out LiPo batteries if your curious. tho there not for phones yet.

May i ask why?
Just thought i'd chime in on this after browsing through the threads. I've had the opportunity on 2 separate occasions to compare the ATT GS2 and International GS2 side by side with several different cases. I live in the US and I have the i777.
First occasion I was in Venice, Italy. was in a Ferrari shop and found an awesome flip case for my GS2. was concerned about it fitting. They let me take it out and test it first. The employee had the intn'l GS2. They both fit into this case exactly the same. It was a snap in. I bought the case. it's very nice. Ferrari leather and logo, smells nice (lol!)
Also, I am a teacher. This year I have an exchange student from Germany that has the International. Again, I compared cases and phones. They all fit identically. I have not see this case in person, but if I thought I needed it, the worry of it fitting would not deter me from getting it.
my two cents.

Galaxy Gear Smartwatch - Use or Sell

I have a Galaxy Gear Smart watch coming from ATT courtesy of a new Note3 and a shiny new 2yr contract
What does this accessory really do?
Surely it will cater to some groups more than others.
I don't know if I should keep this thing, or sell it and get my kids more xmas presents.
Does anyone here on this site have any experience using this accessory?
What do you find useful, what do you not?

i think that you can sell it, coz it's only toy, too much electromagnetic radiation to the body at all with phone, i think better sell it and buy good shweeden watches for hand
The answer to this will depends on the type of person you are.
If you are an sporty active person, then the galaxy gear might have some use to you.
If you have not already known, it has: 1. A Pedometer 2. A Heart beat sensor Build in. So combine it with the S Health (App), it can do a few fancy health monitor tricks.
Besides that...
1. A watch that can last for 10 hours before battery ran dry
2. You need to carry a phone with you in order to use most of the functions
Its like, if your phone can do all those stuffs (Except the health features), why take an extra watch with you...
Personally, I would sell it while it still has the price. I might buy it back if the price drops to $20 - 50 or something

I purchased my N3 last Monday, heard about the Tablet/Watch deal yesterday.
I called ATT yesterday and told them they owe me a watch!
The guy started with "black Friday this" and "while supplies last that" and I stopped him in his tracks !!!
"don't feed me any canned bs excuses" I said.
"You owe me a watch and I want a black one to match my N3 !!!" I said
Within 3 minutes he has the order processed and my "gear" will be here tomorrow!
He also said, "No promo for persons with weak communication skills that hijack other peoples threads"

If you don't wear and don't need it, sell it better than keep it for collecting dust.
I bought it. Used it for 2 or 3 days. Lost desire to use or play with it. For me, it was a little gimmick, nothing more. Battery life for me was not great, not being waterproof or resistant us another drawback for me. I also thought it was not very apealling to the eye.
For now, traditional watch works better for my lifestyle. I do see these being much better in the future, as of now though, it doesn't add much convenience in my daily routine.

Will this work with cases that we have already? For example, it just replaces the existed door, right? Doesn't add any more thickness so we can't use the existing cases we have? Thanks in advance. I'm asking because I read the reviews on the BestBuy site and two of them say that it does add bulk slightly. Just don't want to buy this thing and then find out it's a matter of using this and not being able to use my existing case with it.

Not 100% as I don't have one yet, but I think it might add some additional thickness. So my guess is you will need new case. Maybe someone who purchased already can answer this better than me.

There's one listed on 23rd street and 6th ave here in the City. I was going to go and buy it in person and try it with the tough case I bought a week or so ago already on the phone. Figure I can always return it if they don't have a restocking fee.
Will post more information tomorrow once I check it out.
Thanks for the information, regardless. Much appreciated.

It does add some thickness. Not so much that you will notice it in your hand, but enough that most fitted hard cases will not fit properly. This is a discussion worth reviewing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609406
I went to the BestBuy in 44th and 5th in the City. They're clueless. Two guys with "Samsung Experience Specialists" jerseys or jackets or whatever those zip up things are, the guy kept trying to sell me something COMPLETELY unrelated to what I wanted. Finally I asked him if he had the Qi-compatible charging stand and he said no. Said he only gets "about 2 in a week". I gave up and walked out.

FWIW, I live very close to Best Buy's HQ here in MN. I know a lot of good people employed by them. With BB being a hometown store here I am rarely more than 7 or 8 minutes from a store location wherever I travel in town... That said: I drive past all of them in favor of any competitor, even if I have to go further and/or spend a little more. I do not feel they practice good business ethics as a company, and I do my best boycott them. I do some consulting work, and on occasion am forced to buy a computer component from them. I have had to do this 7 times in the last 10 years, and 5 of those times ended up with a sales person who either lied, or was completely clueless sharing bogus information as fact - in spite of their being the in-store "expert". Good luck to all who shop there, but please don't count on their staff to help educate you on making a sound purchase.

[Q] Wireless Charging?

Do we know if the Nexus 9 will support Wireless Charging?
I came to the XDA forums expressly to ask the same question.
But I would say this: *IF* the Nexus 9 happened to have Qi charging capabilities, I would've thought that this would have been included in all of its promo materials: the video ad, the photos, the press release, etc. So since there is no mention of it, I fear that the answer is no :crying: (I'm praying to be wrong on this one)

That is exactly my suspicion as well. If there is no Qi charging, I would consider that a step back in capabilities from the Nexus tablet platform point of view.
I was really hoping it would be included bit it seems as though that wont be case. The promo materials for the Nexus 6 mention wireless charging, but it's suspiciously absent on the Nexus 9.
too sad if Qi would not work ! :crying:
So no Qi, but i iust watched a video where i think i saw a micro usb port on the side of the tablet?
Im thinking with something like this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008F...165_QL70&qid=1413519170&sr=8-6#ref=mp_s_a_1_6
It would be a good way to play and charge without ruining the port?
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Free mobile app
Wasn't even aware it couldn't handle this.
It's really lame, but I hope they fix it in a revision.
I plan on buying something like this: http://www.dx.com/p/fpc-5v-1000ma-q...for-motorola-moto-e-black-338260#.VEGNZh2Uc41 and then use a slim case (which I'd use anyway).

Is this compatible with the Nexus 9? (beyond the "It has to, because it's microusb"). If so, could you illustrante exactly how to make this work along with a cover?
No, but why shouldn't it be compatible? I'd just put it under the cover. Should work in theory.
