Aluminum ring bumper Case+S-view combo? - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Hello ,
I'm having this Idea about using a metal ring bumper case along with the S-View cover from samsung, That way i would get good protection +the good feeling of both metal and leather combined (I do love the leather-ish back and the part i am most concerned about is actually the plastic chrome plated frame of the phone)
Do you have experience with metal encasement? would you think it would effect signal strength if only the side frame was covered?
PS: Thats the only metal frame I've found on Amazon

If you have any suggestions please do let me know!

I've ordered the poetic and s line cases. the s line case for my note 2 is fine although the stand is flimsy. it only cost 5 bucks though so what are you going to do. I'm hoping the stand for the poetic holds up when you press on the screen.

That aluminum bumper looks nice, until In noticed that weird bump out on the lower left corner as seen from the front. Likely for a lanyard loop, but wow, what an awkward execution of that feature.

That corner is actually where it screws together

I like the idea. .I had something similar with my note 2 that protected the sides w the flip case. .I'm sure other ideas will come up similar to this

Still looks awkward, but I guess it needs some means of latching.
This one is a little more protective, a little bulkier though.

That's nice! Does it protect against scratches when laying the phone on a flat surface? Also, is it hard to remove in order to swap batteries?

I zoomed in on the picture and it looks like there will be no scratch protection for the back. You can see the fake stitching, so the back must stick out enough to scratch the cover & camera whenever you lay it down.
I'd also expect the inside of these aluminum bumpers to do horrible damage to the phone, it looks like there's no protection between the phone & the aluminum.
Can someone with an aluminum bumper comment, please?

We will see, I ordered it. I could care less about the dumb removable
battery cover getting scratched, I'm more worried about easy battery acces.
I hope the back door still comes off really with this.

I've never cared for carrying & changing batteries, so I like the wireless charging adapters. That way there's no need to remove the back. Even if you don't worry about scratching the back cover, bumpers don't protect the camera.
There's another aluminum bumper you might like, instead of needing to remove a screw to change batteries, the frame slides apart.

Any updates on fitting issues? Is there enough room for both to work?
Thanks!

how do You plan to make the cover to work with the bumper over it ? I think You Will need to cut the bumper a little to let the cover enough area to work

opps i guess i should have rotated some of them, the phone slides in and there is a flap that tucks around and under the phone for added protection and it holds it in. No double sided tape

Looks good!
So its pretty thin then? I wont have any issues sliding it in my pants pocket?
I find the Note very pocketable for me and I just wanna make sure this isn't too bulky and take that away..
Also how does the flap that goes over the screen stay in place? I hear magnets arent good for the screen..
Let me know thanks..
Looks cool. Yoobao makes some nice leather cases.
Does the front flap fold flat behind the phone smoothly and slim?

That case is just plain ugly. The edge of the screen is covered and that makes it hard to touch the screen near the edge. Also, if these are the same quality at the Yoobao Ipad cases, don't waste your money. They had a terrible odor to them and the inside of the front flip part got real dirty and looked terrible. Also, when you fold the case flip onto the back, it made it uncomfortable to hold in your hand.

So I bought the slim version, arrived yesterday. I'm not very happy with it. It's a good idea in concept, but my biggest complaint is that the front flap feels horribly awkward when folded around the back. It doesn't fit well and it's uncomfortable to hold the phone that way.
I emailed the seller and they won't accept a return because the packaging is open. Live and learn..

Suck man . Yeah I thought about getting one or even the Samsung flip case, but it just would feel awkward holding it with a flip.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thought I would clarify a couple of things - the phone actually fits into the case well and snug, but it is the front flap that feels loose and awkward when folded flat against the back. You can fold the flap in half at the crease and then press it against the back, but it still doesn't have a very "clean" feel as it is loose at the "hinge" of the flap.
Also, the seller would not accept "used" merchandise, which I disclosed in my email requesting a return. Not just that the package was open. I wanted to clarify that point.

Meh.
Here's a picture taken with my nexus 10 that might show the poor fit at the side of the screen.
View attachment 2303496
That extra shiny edge at the right is the silver frame/side of the Note 3.
I'll probably return it today because the sides flex too much & I'm afraid it'll screw up a screen protector.
It also makes the phone a little harder to fit in some pockets because of the combination of added bulk & drag from the texture.
I'll try to get something with a TPO inner layer and enough plastic on the outside to not drag too badly going into a pocket. That might be like looking for a unicorn since there are so few cases available right now, and almost none I can see in person.

I have same case as well. It's very slim.
I got that case too for now, it fits perfectly if you squeeze in all around as it molds to the phone a little bit and you won't see any gap afterwards. If it was clear and not smoky I would keep it, there are alternatives on Amazon for 1/3rd the price. Not that I mind spending 35 dollars for a case but not one so simple, give me a slim fit Speck or BodyGlove with a kickstand and I'm all over it and they usually go for 25 -35 dollars.
Tech21
I bought one these also for TMO note 3 until they start pushing out some other choices.

OK, I returned the Tech 21 case and they showed me another that came in today. It was by Bodyglove, the same price, made of shiny black TPU. It felt good on the phone and had a good grip in the hand. The sides felt a little stiffer than the first on, EXCEPT at the buttons. Above the buttons the TPU flexed way too much. I'm pretty sure it'll rub at the edge of a screen protector, maybe enough to make the screen protector lift.
I'll just have to wait on a Slim Armor, or something else with a hard shell over a soft liner.

I ended up buying the body glove for now, and so far its pretty good, I can't wait for my UAG case to come in though.
I bought this a temporary, and it's not that great imo , as the power button is pretty hard to depress.
I also bought this as a "temporary case" and actually like it as well-- much slimmer than I thought it would be. I also like the "grippy" material on the back that doesn't slide around in my car. I had the "official" samsung case on my note 2, and that thing would fly across my car/lap/seat any time I made a turn.
Look forward to seeing other options come out though. Great job by Tech21, imo.

For anyone researching this case before buying, I thought I'd post my experience. I'll try to list the aspects of the case as I experienced them with the "unboxing" as it were.
First off, ecstatic that I finally would have some decent protection for my phone. I put on a screen protector and cheap case while waiting for the Kraken to become available. Nothing of huge interest opening the package or taking the case apart (I'd watched a lot of S4 Kraken videos).
The inner silicone Perseus case is REALLY flimsy. It took me a long time to get the front over the silicone without wrinkling it, it took me several tries. After that, the Perseus and front easily snap together with the back.
I had to take off the kickstand to get the case to lay flat. With the stand off, the rubber corners make contact with the desk and I don't have to worry about scratching surfaces.
With the phone screen turned off you can see what looks like oil or something between the protector and the phone but it seems to be lessening over the past 24hrs and this oil look isn't visible when the screen in on. There is increased Spen friction from the protector. I don't know if I'm just getting used to it, but it seems to be getting smoother. I've found the protector to be a lint magnet as well as smudges/fingerprints.
All sensors, microphones and speaker works fine. The speaker even seems louder now.
The headphone and charger flaps close firmly but not the Spen one.
The Spen is a pain to get out but I guess I'll get used to it.
There doesn't seem to be any glare from the flash when taking pics.
The power and volume buttons seem to work better with this case than on the cheap slim case I had on previously.
I find the case big: 3 5/8" x 6 3/8" x 5/8" not including the protruding corners ( 3 3/4" x 6 1/2" x 3/4" with corners)
Overall, I think this is a solid case with good protection but time will tell (I work in construction)
I forgot to mention a couple of things. There is rubber on the sides of the case where you grip it. This is also where the belt clip connects
The clip seems to grab well enough. I tugged at it in different directions and it held. The ratcheting tension seems weak though. I can see it wearing out fast. As far as how the phone looks on the belt, I think it looks kinda goofy but maybe I just have to get used to it.
Also, I got the tripod connector for the case. I don't know if Trident has different size connectors to match diferent phones but the one I have isn't long enough to clear the side of the phone. I'll have to try to modify the shoe on my tripod to get it to work.
Sounds interesting but a picture is worth a thousand words. Guess pics can be found elsewhere online.

I can't speak for the bar mount, I never held it in my hand. But I can say that the tripod mount only actually clips into the case on one end of the mount. There is a lot of resistance when clipping it in and taking it off. I think initially you should be good but I would wonder after all the vibration it would take, would the clips start to loosen up? Trident does make a bar mount, but if it was me given the cost of the phone, I'd have another exoskeleton replacement when you start to see it loosen up. I think the trident mount has rubber inside of the area going around the bars so it should diminish the vibration.

The corners are pretty beefy for sure but they make for nice, quiet gripping on the back and the 4 sides. It's too bad they don't protrude past the face as well.
Just bought this case. So far so good.
I only have to complaints about this case
The power button is very hard to push down and use. Is anyone else having this problem?
Also the screen protector it comes with has the "bubble" effect I'm thinking about just taking it off. I already have a screen protector on there.

Modified battery cover with kickstand

This is my second kick stand mod. I wish I could find accesories like this so I didn't have to mod one. Below is my first mod with and after market sview cover with kickstand before I could find them anywhere. The link below it is the closest I could find thats similar that's affordable that does not cover the chrome sides. If you dont have a screen protector I wouldnt recommend using any sview type cover as there is a slight chance dust or dirt can get in between and scratch your screen. Happened to me even though the s view cover was felt material inside. So I now have a tempered glass on my phone.

Seidio (covers the side) and another ebay seller makes (cant find link) but they're over $25.
For everyday use I found the sview cover a PITA to have to open and close the sview to make calls, text, check email, take picture (regular mode). So I only use it when I need extra protection on the screen. So I've been using the stock OEM battery cover but I missed the kickstand and I've been looking for a non slippery battery cover with kickstand on ebay but I cant find one yet. I use skinomi skin so I can't use one that covers the sides. So I just made one for now till someone comes out with one.
Bought this on ebay for my gf but came damaged so I used the kickstand from it

Cut out the frame around the kickstand with a dremmel and shaped it. Also made it thinner so I didnt stick out so much after I glued it to the back cover. I dremmeled from the bottom and just enough so the kickstand pins are still in their slot.
On the battery cover I cut a rectangular hole the size of the kick stand. The kickstand comes off so I just taped it on the back and traced it so i cut the exact size. Also made notches on one side of the cut so the kickstand pins have a pivoting point.
Then I just glued it to the back. It still a little thick so I may shave it down some more. But so far it's holding up pretty good.
This could either be good or bad. It kinda angles the phone up a little so its not so flat but very minimal. I kinda like it since it's angled more towards me in portrait.

I don't know why. I laughed when I saw the Samsung logo on the kickstand.

Haha. It does look kinda weird but I never see it since the back is always faced down. Maybe I'll put something behind the battery cover.

My 3rd battery cover mod but with an aftermerket fake leather one. This one is thicker so the kickstand doesnt stick out. The only thing I don't like is that it's not as grippy as OEM. But it's a lot more durable with the kickstand than the OEM mod.
Angle cut so when you pull the stand the base won't ever pop out just to be on the safe side after you glue it.
Once glued and completely dry (give it at least 12 hours or buy a glue accelator from a hobby store to speed drying in seconds), dremmel off the excess but just enuff to make the cover more flat and that you don't dremmel off the Kickstand pins support at the hinge side.

Thanks for the comment guys. But Ya if they just made something like this I wouldn't have mod one. Stanglifemike let me get the eBay link. They come in white. It is still thicker by about 1mm.

Which one are you planning to do? I added a few diagram if you're going to do the thicker aftermarket one.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Update:
Since I liked the gripiness of OEM and the slight thickness of the aftermarket one allows me to have a flushed kickstand. I decided to combine both.
Peeled off the fake leather on my modified aftermarket
Used the removed fake leather to trace the hole I needed to cut in the OEM. After that I shaved off the extra tabs and lines from OEM (left) and trimmed the sides so it fits on the aftermarket. Shaved a little bit off the back of the aftermarket market so it the OEM sits more flush
Glued them together
Its (left) about 1mm thicker than stock (right). So I'm pretty happy with the result.

Ringke SLIM LG G3 Case mini review

I have had this case fitted for the past week and have nothing but praise for it. As the title says it is really slim and still makes the G3 feel very low profile. It offers all round protection and it also comes with a really good screen protector. All ports are very accessible with the case fitted and i like the cut outs where the camera lens and LEDs are. For £9 including a decent screen protector im loving this case. I shall post some pics up later

I ordered the slim clear for mine. I don't have the case or phone yet but will report back.
I have the Ringke Slim on my Nexus 5 and absolutely love it. It's the only case I've ever had on my phone that didn't annoy me to the point I end up going naked.

I've just got the ringke slim in white, it has a cutout for the antenna (not on my model), and a free screen protector. The protector went on with a billion bubbles, it looks terrible, might fault I guess but now I have to order some more.
The case has a small slit on each corner to make it easier to put on, but that means it creaks a little when you use it. I'll try wireless charging in a few minutes, but first impressions are that its better than nothing, but not superb.

further to this, the case creaks and doesn't fit brilliantly. The top part obscures the IR blaster unless you keep pushing it upwards.
But it does work with a qi charger, but thats about the only good thing about it.
I'm now considering other options

Ive had my case for over a week now and its never creaked once? The only good thing? I think that's a little harsh. Out of the 3 cases i bought this is by far the best but each to there own
If i told it at the bottom the i can move the top right hand side with my thumb
, and if i hold the top and bottom (ie pick it up)the entire case flexes.
It just feels cheap, maybe i got a badly made one.

True.. I've got a back cover protector on my phone and the corner that has the antenna cutout doesn't fit properly. I feel as tho it wouldn't have creaked if there wasn't a cutout for the antenna.

Those are nice cases. Problem is they scratch too much and easily. I got the same but it's some type of crystallized frosted looking cover. Very nice

Wow thats defective, mine sits perfectly and no creaks or movement at all, I would send it back.
Hi, I'm using this case since a month now... And what my disappointment when I removed it
All the back of my phone is scratched ! Since this case is cut on all sides, I guess a lot of dusts are getting in and stuck between the back cover of the phone and the protection case...
Anybody else with this issue ?
