Modified battery cover with kickstand - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

This is my second kick stand mod. I wish I could find accesories like this so I didn't have to mod one. Below is my first mod with and after market sview cover with kickstand before I could find them anywhere. The link below it is the closest I could find thats similar that's affordable that does not cover the chrome sides. If you dont have a screen protector I wouldnt recommend using any sview type cover as there is a slight chance dust or dirt can get in between and scratch your screen. Happened to me even though the s view cover was felt material inside. So I now have a tempered glass on my phone.
Sview with kickstand mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581200
Ebay one
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=251390505761
Seidio (covers the side) and another ebay seller makes (cant find link) but they're over $25.
For everyday use I found the sview cover a PITA to have to open and close the sview to make calls, text, check email, take picture (regular mode). So I only use it when I need extra protection on the screen. So I've been using the stock OEM battery cover but I missed the kickstand and I've been looking for a non slippery battery cover with kickstand on ebay but I cant find one yet. I use skinomi skin so I can't use one that covers the sides. So I just made one for now till someone comes out with one.
Bought this on ebay for my gf but came damaged so I used the kickstand from it

Cut out the frame around the kickstand with a dremmel and shaped it. Also made it thinner so I didnt stick out so much after I glued it to the back cover. I dremmeled from the bottom and just enough so the kickstand pins are still in their slot.
On the battery cover I cut a rectangular hole the size of the kick stand. The kickstand comes off so I just taped it on the back and traced it so i cut the exact size. Also made notches on one side of the cut so the kickstand pins have a pivoting point.
Then I just glued it to the back. It still a little thick so I may shave it down some more. But so far it's holding up pretty good.
This could either be good or bad. It kinda angles the phone up a little so its not so flat but very minimal. I kinda like it since it's angled more towards me in portrait.

I don't know why. I laughed when I saw the Samsung logo on the kickstand.

Haha. It does look kinda weird but I never see it since the back is always faced down. Maybe I'll put something behind the battery cover.

My 3rd battery cover mod but with an aftermerket fake leather one. This one is thicker so the kickstand doesnt stick out. The only thing I don't like is that it's not as grippy as OEM. But it's a lot more durable with the kickstand than the OEM mod.
Angle cut so when you pull the stand the base won't ever pop out just to be on the safe side after you glue it.
Once glued and completely dry (give it at least 12 hours or buy a glue accelator from a hobby store to speed drying in seconds), dremmel off the excess but just enuff to make the cover more flat and that you don't dremmel off the Kickstand pins support at the hinge side.

Respect! great work for a DIY job!

Pretty cool! I rarely ever used the kickstand on any of my Evo's though.
Where did you purchase the 3rd party battery cover? I'm looking for a new one, but most I've seen are thicker than the OEM cover. The one you found looks pretty nice. Hopefully the seller of yours also offers them in white
SwiftKey'ed from my White Sprint Note 3 via XDA Premium

I have been waiting for a company to produce this. I think I'm going to do this mod instead. Thanks for the links.

Thanks for the comment guys. But Ya if they just made something like this I wouldn't have mod one. Stanglifemike let me get the eBay link. They come in white. It is still thicker by about 1mm.
Here you go. It took like 2 weeks and half though til I received it.

Which one are you planning to do? I added a few diagram if you're going to do the thicker aftermarket one.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Update:
Since I liked the gripiness of OEM and the slight thickness of the aftermarket one allows me to have a flushed kickstand. I decided to combine both.
Peeled off the fake leather on my modified aftermarket
Used the removed fake leather to trace the hole I needed to cut in the OEM. After that I shaved off the extra tabs and lines from OEM (left) and trimmed the sides so it fits on the aftermarket. Shaved a little bit off the back of the aftermarket market so it the OEM sits more flush
Glued them together
Its (left) about 1mm thicker than stock (right). So I'm pretty happy with the result.

Very good idea

[Review] Photon OtterBox Commuter

OtterBox Commuter Review
Just got my OtterBox today, so thought I'd toss out some thoughts for those of you on the fence.
Those of you that aren't familiar with the OtterBox cases check out some info here OtterBox Case Series
Fit: This thing fits so effin nicely! I've tried the Commuter series on a few devices...and this seems to fit more snug than on other phones. The 3D Commuter I had seemed to bunch up ever so slightly. Same with Dell Streak and Evo 4G versions. My Galaxy S phone was pretty snug as well. Seems like they got this one right...cut-out for the mic doesn't look like it'll get blocked over time if the rubber gets loose.
Button overlays: They stick out a bit...which is the norm for Otters. I find them to be pretty handy. The power button especially, as most would agree without a case it can be a bit of a pain to press. Nice that I can stop myself from filing a fingernail on the volume rocker too. Much easier to press than the few other cases I've tried as well.
Dust Flaps: Tight and secure...without being annoying. Easy to open...plenty of room to plug in your cables. Not too stiff. Seems like they'll hold up for awhile. I've had some others that have fallen off way too early in the case life. Noticed the flap over the HDMI / USB ports DOES make the phone wobble a bit when using kickstand. Not a big deal...but might be an issue for some.
Cut-Outs: My only complaint here is with the kickstand cut out...seems a bit too snug. Seems to get caught a tiny bit on the rubber around it as you try to extend the kickstand. Pretty sure it'll straigthen itself out over time tho. Camera cut-out is nuttin special...just a rectangle around the lens and flash. Has cut-outs for the noise cancelling mics on the back as well.
Appearance: LOVE how it doesn't take away from the MoPho's unique look. I've gotten compliments on my phone for how slick it looks with the cut off corners. Yea.it's the little things that count. This isn't a case that hides the look of your phone...it accents the goodness!
General Feel: Not too slick....not too grippy. Slides in and out of pockets just fine. Definitely doesn't feel like I'll drop it. Always a good thing in my book. **Edit: After several hours of use, I've noticed the edges are kinda sharp. The hard plastic, when held in certain spots, can be agitating to your skin with it's sharp plastic.
So...in conclusion: I think this is the case I'll stay with for awhile. I've always enjoyed the protection afforded by OtterBox cases...and this should be no different.
Be aware, unless you rip out the insert on the HDMI dock it won't fit. You will have to remove the case for dock use.

I just ordered one from amazon after reading this. This would be perfect if they would have made a clip for it like the defender. I tried the defender at RS but it was just too much, this seems to keep the bulk down but still give that otterbox protection.

Yeah with modification. Not pretty, but it works. I returned my dock already (since we don't need it anymore for root) or I'd snap some pics. Anyone else confirm this please?

update: oh they went out of stock quick i guess, i was able to snag one though....
newegg's price is good, but thats about how much theyre going for online. retail stores would rip you off, but online price seems to be around the 22-25 dollar range.
lowest amazon price is 22.93 with free shipping from a 3rd party seller.
I bought mine for about the same price from a 3rd party seller on amazon and received it in 2 days (mainly cuz he was in the same state).
i got mine for 19.99 free shipping on amazon. love the case, felt so scared holdin it before.
I managed to get the Commuter to fit the car dock with minimal modification.
1- The rubber plug over the USB ports has to go.
2- Remove the ~1" bar over the USB ports from the outer shell. This part is indicated in green in the photo.
3- Shove the whole thing into the navi dock. Still tight, but it works.
Just copped ($22 on Amazon w/free shipping.) Propz - good review

[Q] Has anyone tried this case before?

This looks interesting to me. Since it will take Seidio forever to offer accessories. I need something to tide me over.

I ordered one. I had gotten the krussell extra-large holster case, but it is waaaay too big, so I'll be shipping that back to amazon.
I'll post a followup. The only worrisome thing is from the pictures it might be cheap in that the backing is only one width and doesn't taper to the top edge of the phone.
Let me know how the holster is with that case

i believe those are PureGears. They made that same design for the iPhone. Insanely good price and didn't add a crazy bulk to the iPhone for having case+holster.
I saw seido holster from the galaxy captivate worked with the S2 though
I have a holster for my captivate from seidio. It doesn't fit, too small. I wonder if you were to get the one of the combo packs and not use the shell if it would fit though. I may order one just to check.
I went ahead and ordered the case from ebay also. I will review when it comes in.

The clasp rotates 360 degrees:
and you can store the phone screen out or screen in:
Two problems with it:
1. The secondary mic is covered up. I plan on drilling a hole with the dremel to open it up.
2. Because of the top tab (see first image) you can only choose to have the USB available or the headphones available when it's in the holster, but not both. Again a small cut-out in the tab could make it not block the headphones, which I might do as well.
@othermark
if you have time can you post more pics or a vid. i would like to see how it looks like out of the holster or how it looks with the screen facing out. thanks in advance
edit: oh i forgot to mention. there are different colors too.

Also it fits perfect in the infuse dock with the case on! !

Yep, it took about 50-75 pulls before it started to easily slide in and out.
I just ordered mine too i figured if the case did cover the noise cancelation mic the current dearth rink case i have on it doesn't and it will probably fit in that holster. win win

When it is in the holster in the face-out position, is it stable? Can I go for a jog with it on my belt and not worry about it?
Also, has anyone tried this holster with any other case? And will it work face-out as well?

It's very stable. The face-out position has more friction to it than the face-in position. Both positions don't budge when seated, but it will take more force to remove it from the face out position.
Ordering one now
I'm using the holster with The Agf case with the leather insert from the att store. I had to do a few easy mods to make it slide in easier but I'm diggin this combo.
The case that comes with the holster doesn't protect the phone as much as I'd like.

Well the case has done it's duty, it's got quite a few bumps and bruises and I managed to break the thin strip at the bottom of the case. So I ordered another one.

I find the Note very pocketable for me and I just wanna make sure this isn't too bulky and take that away..
Also how does the flap that goes over the screen stay in place? I hear magnets arent good for the screen..

That case is just plain ugly. The edge of the screen is covered and that makes it hard to touch the screen near the edge. Also, if these are the same quality at the Yoobao Ipad cases, don't waste your money. They had a terrible odor to them and the inside of the front flip part got real dirty and looked terrible. Also, when you fold the case flip onto the back, it made it uncomfortable to hold in your hand.

So I bought the slim version, arrived yesterday. I'm not very happy with it. It's a good idea in concept, but my biggest complaint is that the front flap feels horribly awkward when folded around the back. It doesn't fit well and it's uncomfortable to hold the phone that way.
I emailed the seller and they won't accept a return because the packaging is open. Live and learn..

Suck man . Yeah I thought about getting one or even the Samsung flip case, but it just would feel awkward holding it with a flip.

Thought I would clarify a couple of things - the phone actually fits into the case well and snug, but it is the front flap that feels loose and awkward when folded flat against the back. You can fold the flap in half at the crease and then press it against the back, but it still doesn't have a very "clean" feel as it is loose at the "hinge" of the flap.
Also, the seller would not accept "used" merchandise, which I disclosed in my email requesting a return. Not just that the package was open. I wanted to clarify that point.

Aluminum ring bumper Case+S-view combo?

Hello ,
I'm having this Idea about using a metal ring bumper case along with the S-View cover from samsung, That way i would get good protection +the good feeling of both metal and leather combined (I do love the leather-ish back and the part i am most concerned about is actually the plastic chrome plated frame of the phone)
Do you have experience with metal encasement? would you think it would effect signal strength if only the side frame was covered?
PS: Thats the only metal frame I've found on Amazon

I've ordered the poetic and s line cases. the s line case for my note 2 is fine although the stand is flimsy. it only cost 5 bucks though so what are you going to do. I'm hoping the stand for the poetic holds up when you press on the screen.
That aluminum bumper looks nice, until In noticed that weird bump out on the lower left corner as seen from the front. Likely for a lanyard loop, but wow, what an awkward execution of that feature.

I zoomed in on the picture and it looks like there will be no scratch protection for the back. You can see the fake stitching, so the back must stick out enough to scratch the cover & camera whenever you lay it down.
I'd also expect the inside of these aluminum bumpers to do horrible damage to the phone, it looks like there's no protection between the phone & the aluminum.
Can someone with an aluminum bumper comment, please?

I've never cared for carrying & changing batteries, so I like the wireless charging adapters. That way there's no need to remove the back. Even if you don't worry about scratching the back cover, bumpers don't protect the camera.
There's another aluminum bumper you might like, instead of needing to remove a screw to change batteries, the frame slides apart.

I'm currently using one of the 2 tudias I bought as they are similar to a spigen slim armour ruggedized TPU with a polycarb snap on back armour, anyone wanting full pics of the cases and how much each costs from where I'll be uploading pics of each case to my drive account so people can see before they buy there are lots of other cases mainly TPU appearing on Amazon, but for anyone who hasn't bought a case I'll try and get each one done over the next day or 2

how do you like the tudias? can you post more pics of those
I'm using the tudia with the silver back breaks up the all the black it looks good doesn't add much bulk , the finger print reader port has been thoughtfully scalloped away to make using it easier, the cylinder buttons work flawlessly, even with an orzly screen protector there's a good .5 mm clearance from it to the desk when face down and about 1mm all round when face down so the speakers are kept clear of the desk cut outs are precise good clearance on back to protect camera .

I just received my orzly case today and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed. I bought the "clear" one which I found out later was actually frosted, and unlike the pics show, it's pretty much nowhere clear clear.. You can see the Razer symbol, but that's about it. I'm definitely ordering the tudia clear shortly, my original idea was to wrap the phone with a dbrand then use the clear case as extra protection, but you ain't seeing anything through this thing lol

have to say if the clear is the same quality as this rugged case it'll be a nice case for showcasing your phone with a skin without damaging the skin

I bought the Razer Rugged case however was fine the fact that it left a weird lip at the bottom of my phone just didn't feel natural to hold so gone back to using the phone without a case.
I know living life of the edge but don't have a habit of cosmetically damaging my phone's.
I didnt like the phone in a case either but couldnt live on the edge any longer, I dropped my last phone a day before the delivery of my razer.
Ive made a suede case for the razor with all the holes punch out, its pretty neet - ill update with pictures when im home.
Got the Orzly wallet case. Not bad in general. One major downside is the usb cutout. Razer uses squared profile on their connectors, but the case had rounded profile which prevented original accessories from being inserted all the way. Had to do some carving with scissors. Not the end of the world, but could be better
Thank you

Just got my Spigen case it's the best case I own thus far and I own the Razer official case, orzly case, and the tudia case. Pick this up you won't be disappointed.
I picked up the Spigen rugged armor and it lifts the Razer screen protector
The Tudia doesn't lift a screen protector, but you have to get it centered perfectly. I've tried them all, the razer cases were the biggest POS's... Their rugged case was a joke and if you take them off without paying attention, you almost snap it in half because of their stupid design of having no side walls in the center area.
Been happy with the Tudia, still want something more like an otterbox defender. But I think I'm going to just 3d print something stupid awesome and thick.
I have this Orzly case in orange.
Fits perfect. Charging hole is big enough and the edge keeps the screen off the table if you put it screen down (which I never do).
Camera is also protected (if put on a flat surface).
Adds grip, so you won't let the phone slip out of your hand.
