Looking for an App - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to find an app for work, we want something that people can use to sign in and out of the building rather than using the good old pen and paper and that will record their name, date, time etc and whether they have signed out or not (incase of a fire alarm). I've tried searching the play store for hours and I've even looked at creating the app myself but as I have 0 coding experience that proved to be a bit daunting. Does anybody know of an app that I can use for this?
Thanks a lot!

show a presentation on the big screen?

Hi,
so I am really enjoying my Galaxy Tab and I think it can easily replace a laptop for a lot of day to day tasks. One such task would be using it to show presentations to people. I have tried googling for this but I couldn't find a proper search term:
I am looking for an app that allows me to basically "stream" a powerpoint presentation onto the big screen, preferably without any wires (WiFi, DLNA). Is there such an app?
Bump. I'd also like to know an answer to this.
yeah im intrested in this too

Can anyone help me build a list of pros and cons of using Google Talk on Android?

I'm gonna stop using Aim, along with every other messaging client. My only problem is that none of my friends actually use Google Talk, but the majority of them actually have an Android and obviously have a Google account. I need to build up a list of reasons why they should use it so I can actually convince them to
start using it.
Thanks in advance

because you can. I cant use it in ontario canada. drives me nuts!
Because of the integration the google apps have on android for obvious reasons lol.
I know it's light on the battery, notifications work flawlessly, GTalk never crashed for me, and I'm sure it doesn't need to be updated so often.
Every Android user got it on his phone, so no need to install another application for chating
I'll give a con:
it disconnects (other people see you offline) WAY TOO often.
Around the web you may find scripts useful to reduce heartbeats interval (means keepalive), but you need root at least in order to use them.
I'd love to use gTalk. Unfortunately, it fails as a always on chat app. Ironic, isn't it ?

[Q] windowsandroid help !

as most of you may have probably learned .. windowsandroid lets you use android (I.C.S) in windows without emulation ... so i have side-loaded 2 or 3 apps but when i press them in windowsandroid .. it opens the app then suddenly closes it .. does this happen to you also ?? and how can i increase its resolution to run it in "tablet mode" ???
Someone help plz !
Maybe this'll help...a little
If you're into disappointment, maybe, that is.
I was interested in the same thing (among other things), with this emu (which, basically it is).
I found this Reddit post on the topic; basically, it says you should merely ADD the following line to the 'build.prop' file in the WindowsAndroid root folder--that's right, just ADD it, no reason to plug it in anywhere specific, or use it to replace anything there:
ro.sf.lcd_density=120
It's important to note, however, this is a density setting rather than a resolution setting, and so caused my own installation to show up in tablet mode, but, as I'm using an older low-res LCD Projector as my monitor (and, er, Windows knows this quite too well, BTW), my copy kept showing up with the screen out of registration--in fact, it looks like you're in 'settings', choosing between active screens (see my screenshot).
Ooops--my writing compositional skills must be lapsing, because--how do I know this stuff about your monitor res having anything to do with anything in this app?
Glad you asked!
An answer posted to a well-worded question that ended up on this site:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...in-socketeqs-windowsandroid/14885130#14885130
Note I reverse-answered his question with the same stuff I posted here--I'm so cheap!
So, for people using regular ole hi-res monitors, and not lower (pretty much 1024x768 for me, the trade-off being it's HUGE!) monitors, this may be okay for you.
Lol thx ... Have you tried side loading apps .. If yes do they work ?

Turned-off notifications...sorry
Yarp...if you count merely dumping them into the '[root]\system\app' folder (methinks)...tried that the first night, and got so many that didn't work (even pretty simple, 'non-graphicky' ones) that I gave up on this OS that very first night...'til later...maybe.
Too much janky behavior from that otherwise very cool idea. I got into some other things temporarily--I'll look back in (some things in mind) in a week or so.
That thing was locking up pretty consistently every time I ran an app on it other than the 'system apps' that came with it...I was interested in trying out my favorite old news & weather app--the 'geniewidget.apk' I loved from Froyo on (see here), post by username VJKotts with attachment--worked for me!
I may have time to list apps that worked, and didn't, later today, but many of them are specific to me (like, my over-use of the Ulysse speedometer while driving my last car, which didn't have a working speedo, so, that was priceless!).
Some various media player apps are of interest to me, since I build HTPCs, and am getting into using the Android OS for the same purpose (with portability offered by the new Android mini PC's!)
Some reviewers of that thing are reporting tons of happy success with using them as basic HTPCs, and lots of people love XBMC and Plex (not me necessarily--I've had limited success with each of these, and resort to much simpler playback of my own 'Windows-Recorded TV' files using Skifta, so I'm happy with that app.

[Q] Remote access app

Hi.
I'm new here, so apologies in advance if i ask a question that was handled in a previous thread.
I'm looking for a decent app that will allow me to control an android device from a pc. I have a tablet that is being used as a kiosk device and i would like to connect remotely and check the status of apps, run scripts, generally just troubleshoot issues that might pop up from time to time. I would like screen sharing also, that would make things a lot easier. I've tried webkey, teamviewer, airdroid but none of them give me the kind of functionality I need
At the moment I'm using a Nexus 7, but I'd like the app to work on any device. In future we might start using generic android devices, nothing brand-specific.
Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated

Here is the original thread ShareKM on XDA
If you read it a bit they start to talk about the workarounds.

Thanks. But as far as I can see, this only works if the pc and android device are on the same network. My kiosk devices are hundreds of kilometers away, so I need something that works over the internet

Using an old phone as an IOT device/appliance

Im looking to use an old phone (Nexus 6 or S3) as a camera stream and i found an app that makes that part pretty easy 'IP Webcam'
The part im curious about is how to setup the phone. I dont really want to use my account because it will likely want to pull down other crap. Is it recommended to create a new google account or is there a config setup for using your own?
Rom wise is there anything out there that will help with stuff like the screen (fairly certain it will only work while the screen is on) so i can configure it to always stay on, but is there some way to handle that too?
I found JanOS which looks really interesting but neither phone is support and im concerned that getting the 'IP Webcam' app on there might be tough (finding no mention of the play store/google apps)
Just looking to see if there is anything specific for using an old phone as an IOT device with play store apps.
