New York Times and Samsung Perks - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Themes and Apps

According to Samsung, purchasing this tablet included 12 weeks of the New York Times as part of the perks. However, I am now getting the message my "free trial" is over and I need to subscribe or be limited to 3 articles per day.
I am not pleased!

I got the same message. If you subscribe, you get the 12 weeks free and they start charging after that if you don't cancel.

Was the only customer in my local Sprint store this morning. They took over an hour because they were having problems with the new Note 3 and new One Up program. Got it back at home though now. Absolutely LOVE it!!!!!
Good luck to everyone getting it this morning! If you're also using the One Up program then be prepared to wait. They said no one else had been able to do it yet. I was thrilled that they were for me. I was willing to wait all day if I had to though! Lol

My experience was not that bad considering I did a number swap with my girlfriend. Essentially she got my S3and I took her EVO 3D to do the One up. I did the number swap Friday the 4th so I actually couldn't do the One up til the next day. Went in at 9 was out of the store before 9:15. Compared to my S3 the N3 is a beast all its own and I love it.

Note 3 versus Galaxy Mega
Hi, I'm thorn between the Note 3 and the Mega. I know the Note 3 has a faster processor, more memory, ram and better screen resolution. currently I have the Note 2. I need the biggest screen I can get. don't use the Spen too much so no need of it. Anyone have tested the Mega?
A heads-up that Amazon just got the black model in stock -- I got an email saying that my earlier order has shipped, and it shows 2 more in stock currently. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-Black-Sprint/dp/B00FJ8WBJG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_cps_1
Price is $299.99 for an upgrade, and they don't charge tax to most states (including IL), plus my Chase Freedom card is offering 5% cashback from Amazon purchases this quarter... so my bottom line is $285... pretty good, I'd say.

Well shoot, I see that the upgrade price is now $249.99! I'm chatting with customer service now to see if I can get a credit.

At the link I pasted. Choose individual or family account, and the option "I have a Sprint account and want to upgrade my current device to this one" gives a $249.99 price either way. Are you seeing something different?

I would like to know as well. It would be nice to get some of my money back.
Just a heads up to anyone considering moving from the HTC One to this phone should do it. I loved the speakers on the One but the battery life, screen size, and expandable storage are completely worth the switch. I'm really loving this phone and I use the stylus and S-Notes way more than I ever thought I would.

I just ordered it through Amazon online. I chose a random plan and called Sprint to activate it and keep my same plan before turning it on. Worked like a champ on this phone and my previous phone two years ago.

Ok... I was eligible for an upgrade so I went to Amazon and picked the Note 3 for Sprint. Sero obviously isn't a plan Amazon offers, so I chose one of the plans they do offer and ordered the phone. The phone showed up the next day. Before turning it on, I called Sprint and said I bought a new phone and want to activate it, but stay on the same plan. They said no problem and activated it. Done.
Two years ago when I was eligible for an upgrade that was the method Amazon told me to use if I wanted a plan they didn't offer. Just in case it didn't work, I didn't turn on the phone until I had confirmation from Sprint it would work.

Note 3 vs HTC One Max?
I picked up my Note 3 on 10/5 and have 14 days to return. I'm thinking about checking out the HTC One Max but the non-removable battery may be a deal breaker for me.
Note 3:
My Cons:
Call quality is so bad
I rarely use the SPen (only to show off) so it's useless
hardware power button moves around alot (super minor)
WatchON and My Magazines sometimes pops up with it not responding (I don't use them)
My Pros:
Screensize/resolution is AMAZING (I came from an S2 Lol)
Battery life: WOW. I stream Pandora all day, utube, txt/emails, and I can still get about 24 hr usage with my HEAVY use.
SD Card slot
Removable battery: Awesome for traveling
Charging: WOW. charges from 0-100 in about 2 hours and 30m
HTC One Max(rumored specs) :
My Cons:
Battery: Non-removable battery???? May be a deal breaker for me.
Size: It was looking to be 5.9 view-able but now they think it will be the same 5.7 as our note 3? The phys size looks like it might be half an inch or so bigger then the Note 3. Will be disappointed if the view-able screen is 5.7 instead of 5.9.
My Pros:
If screen-size will be 5.9, this will put me one step closer on making me want to switch.
Similar battery life as the note 3
SPEAKERS!!! I'm a media person, and stereo/front speakers might push me over the top to switch.
Just minor things that I've though about. Please let me know of your thoughts!
10/18 will be the last day I will be able to undo my note 3 purchase with no penalties (besides the $35 restocking fee). I think the HTC One Max will come out on 10/15 as rumored so I'll be trying it in store to get a better feel of which phone suits me best.

Still no real hype, even at Sprint store...

I was very excited at the notion of getting my N3 today. I drive like a mad man to the Sprint store closest to my home. I was expecting to see SOME type of crowd...(2 p.m.).the store was absolutely empty! So I tell the rep that I want to buy the N3, she said they never got any, not even 1 for launch day? In fact, she said that during the morning conference call, there was no mention of the N3 at all, WTF? She didn't know model numbers or anything else about it, do people really hate the Samsung line that much? After driving to the 3rd Sprint store, I bought the only one that was shipped to their store. Overall, I'm kind of miffed that even the store reps aren't/weren't prepared, knowledgeable or even slightly enthusiastic about this launch, but I'm glad I got my phone!
i went straight to best buy and got mine this morning but they did say they had a limited quantity and no accessories.. so i went to the sprint store around the corner to get a case.
they were excited to see mine said they have never seen the phone and didnt get any in
Local Clearwater store had plenty. Despite all the hype of the Note 3, it's always a sleeper at the Sprint store. The same thing happened last year at the Note 2 launch, and that was even more of a bigger hype since it is the first time the Note series is available from Sprint.
You took the time to complain because there was no rabid crowd like the iPhone zealots do every year? You should be thankful. The store I was at had limited stock AND some stores got their shipments and could not locate them.

The sprint store here didn't receive theirs and one radioshack only got white ones while the other didn't get theirs at all. I just decided to order mine straight from sprint to avoid everything and to keep myself from being tempted into a white one.
No sign, accessories, or display model at the one i was at. However i was the 4th one sold within the hour.

I had an appointment at Best Buy for 10:00 a.m. this morning. There weren't many people when I arrived but by the time I was done (took almost an hour!) there was a line of about a dozen people and and lots of talk about the Note 3.
Overall I am much more impressed with the look of the phone and the soft texture of the back; much better than I thought it might be based on many comments in the forums.
Best Buy also had the Galaxy Gear but it was tethered and the security device made the watch look so thick and impossible to test fit. The whole presentation did nothing to help sell the device. Overall from what I could see it looked nice but not for $300. I think Samsung and/or Best Buy really missed an opportunity by not offering some kind of Note/Gear bundle. Even $50 discount might have made me consider getting both.

I was passing on an observation, not really meant to be a complaint. But it was if they had no idea that it was a launch date, no display units, no in-store posters, like they hadn't even heard of the phone. I just found it strange, maybe others here don't.
All the stores in Dallas/Ft.Worth got at least 10-20. I got there at 9am with 1 guy waiting and by the time i left after i kept telling the salesman i dont have to give them my phone that is not under contract..... I saw about 4 people leave the store with them.

We are smartphone enthusiasts. Sprint employees or corporate generally do not care. If they do, they would be working with Sony to push their XPERIA line. With a little encouragement and dealing, Sony will add a CDMA version. Look at the mistake with the uniband Note 3 and the lack of waterproof phone.
Get a couple of enthusiasts from XDA to the Sprint corporate board room and the company will be profitable real fast. Sprint corporate is often clueless just like the people at HP, just like the idiots at LG and HTC that decides their phone do not need an SD card. They make $5 mistake that cost them lots of unsold phones and hundreds of millions. Samsung don't have to beat them when they keep making stupid decision like that. Of course, this is just IMHO.
If I was managing the Sprint corporate store, you bet I will be promoting the Note 3 or any flagship phone launch with posters, display, cases, hooking it up to the smart dock, etc.. Look at the home page at Sprint. They are pushing the Iphones. Nothing wrong with that but they should be pushing any new flagship phone launch. They do not have the passion like the John Legre dude at T Mobile.

Thats because no one is trying to hear they only have one option for a plan. lol If you start advertising the Note 3 also people need to be informed that there plan is changing. People hate switching plans especially when the store reps even have a hard time explaining the new plans. Most people can care less about a new phone every yr. We are the minority. I personally thought you get $15 off the plan immediately. Then they tell me you have to wait 2 months. Just very confusing.

My Sprint store got the boxes from UPS as I arrived at 10am. They even had a Samsung Rep on hand doing Note 3 demos and Galaxy Gear. Cases were limited, all they had was the Body Glove case which is actually pretty nice. Overall this is a great phone and im so happy I exchanged my HTC One for this.

My sentiments exactly. I dread going to my corporate sprint store. Yesterday, however, i was plesantly suprised that there was no traffic and i was served instantly upon walking into the store. TWICE. By 12 tho, it was filling up and i was glad i was finished.
It is very weird, regardless of what some will have you believe. I was first at one of my local stores to get one (was the only one in the store for the hour or so it took to futz with my account and activate the phone. Got there at store opening). They had not even taken them out of the shipping box yet. Had to go back to the store this morning and they said that I am still the only one to have gotten one. Inexplicable.
I realize the price bump to give preference to Apple (don't agree with it, but understand) but it's almost like Sprint didn't even want this phone to launch at all. Last to announce launch date. No marketing at all. With millions of Note and Note 2's sold, and several million Note 3's already sold world wide, I really can't figure out what's going on. I have seen companies do a lot of weird things, but whatever is going on with Sprint and the Note 3 is beyond me. Sprint's overall lineup of phones is horrendous anyway, getting a true flagship phone should be more of a big deal to them.
I have to say that I love this phone. Coming from a beat up Epic 4G Touch, this is like upgrading from a Pentium 4 to an i7. This is also the first time I have been able to use LTE and I love it.
There is a business aspect to this. Now trust me I don't want to give Sprint more credit than they deserve for being smart because at the retail level they are any thing but smart. However, the bigger push for Apple in all the stores may be a business decision and by design. If you recall, Sprint had to commit to hundreds of millions if dollars to Apple when they got the iPhone line.
Retail stinks anyhow for all manufacturers. I used to be a vp of salrs for a PC company and always felt like being held hostage to retail reps who can't add any value. I recall the days of ComputerLand when I got them to carry my new really cool laptop. There were two versions and we spent a lot of money and time training and motivating their retail team for the launch. I secret shopped the stores and when I asked the sales team what was the difference between model 1 and 2 he said $199 ....I was smart enough to calculate that myself ....the price was on the display.
Yesterday was another good example. I went to the Sprint store and there were no notes on display although they were in inventory. Then I drove to the Best Buy mobile store. Again nothing on display but a bunch in stock. Talked to store manager who said she was given a demo unit by Samsung a few days ago but didn't open it. She also had a Gear which she said she hasn't opened.
A Samsung experience in BestBuy stores is a good idea to help overcome the retail inefficiencies but ultimately we will pay the extra cost. No wonder internet commerce is a multi billion dollar channel

I almost teared up reading this........ Everything you have stated is correct...
Sprint isn't a very effective VAR for Samsung products and I think they are in so deep with the fruit that they are beginning to regret their metric quotas they are obligated to meet on a quarterly basis in order to be in compliance with the distribution contract they signed in order to get into the very lucrative (Icraze) business model/ecosystem.
I wish Samsung would open a retail brick and mortar but the cult-ish following isn't near the same level as Apple.
So for the near future, we will have to go through the regular channels and hopefully the Samsung experience @ BB can get a foothold and become a starting off point for something better and a more customer orientated experience for Samsung users.

Nexus payments plans available!

For those who want a nexus but can't afford $500 at once, you can order through huawei U.S.. They accept payment plans and don't charge taxes in certain states. I feel bad that the carriers are not selling the new phones, and that's some individuals only means of obtaining a new phone due to allowing monthly installments. So when will it be available? When the phone is no longer in pre-order status? IF so when will that be?

No frost option either.
Edit: Just had a chat with them, looks like the Frost option is Google only for now.
It looks like it is going through now on the Huawei site if you plan to do the monthly payment route w/ Affirm. The caveat though is you pay interest so you pay more in the long run.
The best things about ordering through them is you'll probably get the device earlier and no tax for certain states. I just don't know how their support is if an issue comes up.
I do have mine pre-ordered off Google for the 50$ gift card, but who knows I might cancel it and save me the tax money.
I finally got the affirm option to work but when it kicked me back to the Huawei site I got an error with no confirmation. I did get a text from affirm saying I was charged though. I chatted with Huawei and while I was I got the confirmation email. It doesn't have an estimated ship date and the genius at Huawei told me he couldn't give me one because the release date isn't announced yet...
I tried several times this morning, the Affirm option never even worked, it just gave me an error.
I e-mailed them and got this reply;
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Affirm!
We are currently experiencing a technical issue and have been working with Huawei to resolve this matter. We apologize for the inconvenience, and encourage you to try again at a later time.

Still not working, I get this error
We were unable to connect to your Capital One account with the information provided. Please check your information and try again.
I entered in my correct username and password. just logged into the real account, and it worked, so not sure why Affirm can't use the same password and username ?
Why would affirm need your capital one info? I put in very basic info and was approved in seconds. No bank account needed
Just did mine again and it went through.
On Huawei's site it shows processing order. I got the 64GB Aluminum.
I tried and go to the point to add my bank account which proceeded to fail will probably just order from Google later or charge the full amount from huawei wanna see which ends up shipping faster

Had errors yesterday and earlier today but went thru just fine about a hour and a half ago, 64gb Graphite pre ordered and stupidly excited, I plan on paying it off quickly to avoid all that interest, affirm does credit you back if you pay it off early (so you don't bite all the interest)

Congrats to those who were able to successfully order a phone. I'm happy to deliver some helpful news to the group. Now hit my thanks button my brothers hahaha jk.
Just so you know, I looked into this option and they charge a minimum of 10% interest and go all the way up to 30%, depending on your credit. If you don't mind changing carriers, are not a heavy data user and don't mind waiting a while, go to Project Fi and request an invite. Once you get accepted you'll get a chance to by either Nexus on a 0% interest(they do a credit check) with low monthly payments spread out over 24 months.
Alternatively, you can find a credit card with a year or more 0% interest introductory offer and finance it through that. PayPal credit will also give you 0% interest for 6 months or more.

T Mobiles 8 weeks or our 8 weeks ?
I have been unfortunate enough to have used t mobiles promos twice in the past, one was for the two free lines and the other was when I joined them and they promised to pay my ETF fees ( 3 years ago that was ).
The former took approx 5 months to fix, as I was continuesly being charged for the 2 extra "free" lines , my monthly bills were running almost $300 for 5 months until it got resolved.
The latter, with the ETF , lets just say it took them approx 8 weeks to send out the prepaid Mastercard with credit on it, luckily for me I had the spare cash at the time to pay ATT their ETF fees else I would have been screwed , was approx $700 or so.
With both my relatively bad experiences I no longer wished to take up the Note8 buy one get one free, wife paid for hers and I paid for mine ( we have seperate bank accounts- dont hate ) LOL
I only had good experience with T-Mobile/Samsung promotions, and I kinda chased them... (Note 5 T-Mo BOGO and rebates, Samsung gifts, T-Mo S7 edge BOGO, T-Mo Netflix for a 1 year, Pixel Promo and other)
If you submit clean and accurate paperwork, you'll mostly get your rebate approved in 6 to 8 weeks and the check or card 2 weeks after that. Just like they said.
My BOGO was actually denied. Reason, JOD customers are not actually eligible for this deal. I called T-mobile and explained that I had calls several times to confirm that both lines would be eligible; after researching they paid off my JOD device and we just now have the other Note 8 on my wife's line. If you are denied I would calll especially if your situation is similar.

I was on JOD for almost 2 years. Had enough , and got rid of it , especially after when I found out it wasn't "special" anymore. Meaning anyone could get it . Three of my 4 lines were JOD. Not anymore.

Does anybody know if they ship the pre-order accessories for both phones in one shipment? I'm hoping... since I just got shipping confirmation.

No. It could happen but with so many things backordered is not likely.
I'm glad I checked in on this thread. I called Tmo customer support and it turns out nothing had been done with my BOGO credit. This was the first time I have attempted this and I didn't even know there were things that were supposed to be done on my end. The service rep got me taken care of though, so all good. They did tell me though that they had been having alot of issue of late with the BOGO.
I was denied even though I brought four lines over within the time period permitted by the promotion. After an hour with a rep on Twitter, they fixed it and I should have my rebate in a few weeks. They blamed it on me paying off one of the phones and that both should have been on EIP. Obviously, that is a stupid thing to say since the offer is buy one, get one. Not buy one, don't pay it off, then get the other free.

You were absolutely correct. I got 2 different ship confirmation emails from Samsung.
BTW...BOGO credit status check can be done online. https://promotions.t-mobile.com/OrderSearch :highfive:
Got denied today, rebate status page said i didn't have a qualifying line, the store and reps on phone told me it was all good several times, but it still got denied. Called them after denial, they said they could fix it but they would have to transfer me to someone "higher" up the food chain over there to get the aproval, was on hone for 2 hours, gave up,and will have to fight this one out tomorrow.
Get you boxing gloves ready, cause this sounds like a fight is coming for some of us.....

Don't sweat it, I had that problem with the S7 promo last year but they took care of it. I'd does need to go to another group higher up but the process wasn't that bad.

Samsung Pay Promotions

So, I used Visa Checkout for the first time today because there is a promotion for 2500 points. Does anyone know when the account is credited? From my previous promotion experience, it's usual within seconds.
Have another question. When I initially setup Visa Checkout through the Samsung App, I seemed to have selected the Samsung Rewards card. So on that card's tab, I see Visa Checkout turned on. How do I turn it on for the other card I got in there? (Visa Checkout website shows both of my cards).
Wondering the same as I used mine earlier and haven't been credited yet.

The Samsung Pay Promotions are the biggest joke on the planets I am still waiting on 3 40,000 points for 3 Note 8 from t-mobile. They where issued by Helloworld who administered the program who called Samsung. Samsung never received the points to put on my 3 phones. So do not hold your breath. It is a SCAM and for that reason I switch to Iphone and will never buy a Samsung product again.
^^^troll
Fixed it by signing out of Pay and signing back in. Now both tabs have the Visa Checkout black tab. Also, it seems you can't use Samsung Rewards card to make Visa Checkout purchases if you want promo points. It only works for your own CC.
I am having the same issue- but I have been calling them everyday and also participated in the Verizon discussion. I had to email everything back in it was “escalated” 2 weeks ago. I even called Hello World. They said the promotion was much bigger than expected. Bottom line - I call BS. I am angry at Hello World, Samsung and Verizon. Bad business
I was able to receive 5 gift cards for a total of 200,000 Samsung points. I bought a Sony X900E & One X

I applied so many times with different Samsung accounts, the only bad thing is I had to sign in every account I received the 40,000 points and be signed in that account to use it. I wasn't able to transfer to my original account.
