Ubuntu or Linux? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm wondering if there is Ubuntu, Ubuntu touch, or another Linux for our phone? I remember having regular desktop Ubuntu on my old note 2 and s2. But I haven't seen it for this device, am I missing a few threads? Or are people not looking to do this?

I don't think anyone's tried to port Ubuntu Touch to the GS4. Of course, since my phone already runs Linux, I can't see why I'd bother.

Was thinking more of android alternates, yeah Ubuntu touch isn't much different but it opens up doors... Like webos builds only on devices that have Ubuntu touch ports and I'm sure regular Ubuntu can use Ubuntu touch as a base or something along those lines

Who would like Window 8 on the Note? Soon we will have it

It doesn't say anything in there about the Note getting Windows, just that the author would like to see it.
Lol, why is this even posted in galaxy note, or any android based phone forumn?

If it was possible, i'd definately put it on my note if it could dual boot
I don't want Windows 8 on my phone or on my computer. Win 7 rules and M$ is making a big mistake.
I would welcome WP7 or 8 as a dual boot.

I would only use it if we can dual boot it.
+1 on dual booting it. There are days that I would like an over simplified UI such as WP8, but I couldn't live with it full time. Plus the lack of customization would kill me. Also, a dual boot option would allow me to let others use my phone and actually know how to do anything at all. My Note is so streamlined for my personal use that nobody else can use it effectively.
I would like it just to try. In the end it will be the beSt OS

I themed my Ics as windows phone 7. I had an HTC surround and loved the ui. However android is still Top for me. So android with windows phone 7 ui is perfect.
Also that's clearly Photoshoped. The tip of the spen is gone and the buttons on the bottom are not angled correctly

Never said I was able to. That was just a response to the wp7 ui stuff.
Also if this does come out we wouldn't benefit from it (unless you want to buy another gnote..)

I have to agree with the dual boot option. And if its possible for dev to cook some W8 ROM to make it better

I use a windows phone for my job and I must say I do not like it. No comparison to Android.

Ubuntu

I wonder if its possible to get a port of Ubuntu phone from the nexus 4 to the OG.
And if so would you have to have the nexus conversion done.

I did this earlier today, and Ubuntu touch looks promising. It's no where near ready for daily use though. But that is to be expected with a developer preview.

....that's your personal opinion. I think that Ubuntu for phones will essentially be more powerful than android and will bring a variety of new possibilities to the table along with a cool new interface. The only negative thing I could think of is not being able to use android apps.
Wait lol was that sarcasm?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
New interface may be fun to tinker with I guess. The phone ecosystem is all about the apps, though.
All I see is a potentially more bloated os, much worse power management, less apps, etc. But I may be completely wrong.
Regardless it will be interesting to see if this and mozilla's phone os end up being worth a crap.

Ubuntu Touch?

has anyone looked at porting Ubuntu Touch to the LGOG? I read somewhere that the porting is "easy" if you're running CM10.1. but I am no developer so that could be BS.

It's a fairly easy port, but I have stayed away from it because it is mostly not working, most apps are just for show, and it has bricked some nexus 4s, an issue that Canonical included in the release notes. I wouldn't be able to release it with that over my head.

Once it is more stable, I plan to bring it to our devices. It's just not worth the risk right now. I don't like releasing things that I know could brick people.

Not needed for Linux, just plug it in and go. Or do you mean MTP? If MTP then no, its a windows media thing, I've never seen it work on Ubuntu, at least. I just use ADB push for everything.

Hook up the phone, open a terminal and type adb devices. I'd it shows up it works, if not then more will be needed. Well make sure USB debugging is enabled in the phone too.

Port ubuntu touch from n7100 to i605

Is there any way to port Ubuntu touch developer preview to Verizon i605. I seen it was on the n7100. I would like to try it , but I have no clue how to port or make roms. Any help would be well appreciated.
Have you seen this - - > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
I was playing around with porting Touch, but got side tracked with some fun with RootBox.
Yes I have but I am on windows 7. Im not good with linux yet. I just wana test the rom out.

Its not that simple. You can either install linux and do the work yourself or hope someone else does it.

Was hoping lol. I seen the n7100 has it. Didnt think it would be that hard but it is. Ill just wait.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Well, you could always backup your device and install the n7100 version. See of it will boot. If it does or doesn't, with a backup, no harm no foul.

You'll probably mainly need a kernel for the lte hardware in the 7105/every American model.

I can make a build if I was given a week, college life and crap will probably get in the way. If you have any spare computers, you can put them to use and run Ubuntu on them. Don't install the international version, too many different parts. Try looking through at&t/tmobile/sprint forums seeing how radios won't matter at all.

That would be great.
