[mod] mj4 native hotspot! {working} (odex/deodex) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

@mjcollum presents:
MJ4 NATIVE HOTSPOT! (odex/deodex)
This is a working hotspot mod.
Thanks @wwjoshdew for the how-to video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdC_a5_ehWY
replace services.jar in system/framework.
THIS IS THE DEODEX version.
currently based on freeza's mj4 deodex stock rooted services.jar (thanks @freeza)
mod based off JoshBeach's previous work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481448 (thanks @JoshBeach)
it appears the offsets had changed preventing the mi5 version from running. hopefully this fixes that. it appears the new offset is at line 6680.
THE VERSION IN THIS POST IS FOR STOCK ROOTED DEODEXED MJ4 ONLY! SEE POST BELOW FOR ODEXED VERSION

ODEX VERSION:
for those who don't want the screen animations or other tweaks,
this is a stock odex mj4 with the hotspot activated.
not a flashable zip. unzip.
works while keeping knox 0x0
just use a file explorer or adb to copy files into system/framework.
make sure r/w permission for /system is set.
rename old files or make backup first.
Edit.
If renaming the old files you must change the ending or your phone will hang.
So file.end becomes file.end.bak
Or file.old or whatever.
Services.jar to services.jar.bak is ok.
Services.odex to services.odex.bak is ok
Not fileback.end
Services.jar to servicesbak.jar is not ok and will hang your phone.
If you leave the .jar or .apk or.odex on your orig file it will still try and load. Causing a bootloop.
This can be fixed with adb. Look at pages 5/6

I'll give it a shot and report my findings.

Thank, for this! I'm in an area, with barely enough data bandwidth to reply to this post, so I can't test, until a little later.
You know, it would have been ridiculous, for you to have to download the entire rom, just for that one file. I don't understand how you can offer to help, but no one else wants to offer, just the tiniest bit of support, for something THEY requested.
Again, thanks!

Both of these work

Nice. wish u said something to me. I already did the mod for MJ4... LOL u didn't need to do another thread, that's why we started a "sticky".
oh well. just another development thread I guess.
its on the server ready for download...
HERE IS A DIRECT LINK TO WORKING HOTSPOT MODS FOR MI5 AND MJ4.

Sorry you are the man. Lol you more than welcome to delete this thread. I just really went through this because I couldn't find a mj4 stock odex version yesterday and saw people were still asking for it. Figured you were busy and hadn't gotten to it.
thats also part of the problem with the sticky in my opinion no one knew it was updated and mj4 was up.
also still need a odex version which ill try and get to shortly.
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk

Thanks man! seems to be working. I agree that having things all in that mega thread gets a bit confusing. I like the separate threads.

Ok now that it seems to be working for people I'll build up an odex version when I get home in a couple hours.

Use a file explorer with root access to copy into the system/framework folder.
Make sure to set permission to r/w.
I use es explorer
Others use root explorer.

Just be careful the couple versions before this locked my phone up. This one looks right and I think I got it working. But it may still lock up at boot screen.
I was able to adb back in though without flipping a knox flag or anything.

You can still get to adb if it gets stuck also. May want to make a backup of the original

Trick ota

Would it be possible to take the ota that has been downloaded and add our own framework that would be odexed and have it install some cracks?
We have the ota and why not take that and take out the firmware inside and replace with our own methods. Since we already have the framework hacked to unlock the hotspot feature we should be able to replace it via update then.
Just a thought. I'm not sure if it would work but we can try
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
The ota is signed. Modifying it breaks the signature.

Yeah, but we can't sign it? Or better yet, you can open a zip and push it in without breaking it. I've done that with classes.dex to hack the hotspot in framework.jar and no problems
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Even if you had all the same files and just rearranged what order they appeared it would still break the MD5sum, There is a very very small change that modifying a file would produce a collision between the signed copy and the modified copy

Ok.... Just wish we could manipulate their ota...
What if we didn't rearange. Like if we hacked the framework.jar and kept that the same but just swapped out theirs for ours keeping all else intact. WiFi tether is a huge plus right now until full root comes
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
So do I, I haven't done any cooking or development myself. But I am almost done a physics and comp sci major and took a class on cryptography (the only reason I know how MD5 works) so I can follow along with some of the stuff.
I took the OTA myself, which people say is terrible, but the 2.3.3 will be rooted easy enough. It always is. I have faith in the devs.

Given what the guy said, I don't think that will work either. Time for some research!
I think it will still look for the changes and will probably become corrupted if it does find any.

I am not a programmer but my guess is they are looking at the OTA to see where they (HTC/Sprint) may have tried to patch a hole with the update and that is why they say dont run the OTA
Not going to happen.
Oh I know. For now I have run no ota. My main thing is root then hack stock WiFi tether. If I could do tether first, I would be a happy camper till the root happens

You mentioned you're familiar with MD5s, do you think you may be able to figure out a way to modify something without affecting the MD5? I'm sure it has to have some weaknesses being how small it is compared to the size of the file
No Root Needed

hmmmm I think this is what iI was "getting at", with my post;
"3VO No Root Needed?"
which is my point exactly..."If HTC or Sprint can do it when the phone is locked, why can't we?"
But this genious "idea" was moved to the "General" section... a bit too early, because some "nay-sayers" started posting that they left there 3VO in the sand over night with a family of oysters.... and the next day not only was it rooted but they also got a pearl!
lol
I still like the "idea" but everyone said it couldn't be done

Haus, I've seen roms being changed yet the md5 the same. Chubbz asked a good question. Is it possible to make the md5 set? As I recalled many roms being basically stolen then revamped but the core had the same md5.
Just could he an open door we may want to pursue is all

Cant Root Permission Denied

I was rooted on this Thunderbolt and went back to stock since the phone isn't really mine and I really didn't want to play the support role any longer. The owner of the phone now installed the latest Verizon update which is pretty good but the owners misses Wifi Tether so I agreed to re-root the phone. Everything is well until I try to do the "dd if=/data/local/misc.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17" command in adb, the md5 checksum is an exact match but I get a permission denied error which I didn't get before.
Any idea how I can get around this? Thanks!

If you're rooted, I assume it's as simple as using a root explorer, and navigating to /cache. Copy the update file to your external storage card. This has to be done before you attempt to flash the update (it will usually fail, anyway, if you have a custom recovery, or modified /system). The file will be deleted from /cache, also.

Anyone? Anything? I am trying to backup my current Liquidsmooth 3.0 beta. When I go into TWRP it tells me I have 10 Mb boot, 642 Mb of system, and 1,982,905 mb of data to back up. How is that even possible? That means my phone has about as much storage as my harddrive.
Is something wrong with my version of TWRP? I've used this recovery to backup and restore multiple times. I've tried refreshing the sizes, changing from Micro SD to internal, clearing caches, and even removing my ROM and reinstalling it. This still happens.
If I need to switch to another version of TWRP or to CWM I will. I just don't know how.
Please, if you don't know; could you at least redirect me to another thread?

Well that sucks!
I'm sure someone on here will have an answer for you... I've never ran into this issue before myself... That's a ton of needed space though huh?

Not only a ton, but an unheard of amount on a phone. And I have little hope as I haven't found anyone who is having a problem even remotely the same.

Maybe since now you're on Philz you could go to his thread for our phones and show him the screen shot and ask him. He knows everything if you ask me lol worth a try at least

I can't post in the Philz forum, my account doesn't have priveliges to. I havn't wiped this current ROM yet but, I wiped my last one because I had this issue as well and I couldn't find a fix for it.
If you have priveliges to post in that thread it would be awesome if you could spread the word of my problem to him the people over there.

Great! Thanks! Is there like someway I can show a log of what the recovery is going through when it calculates how large the file is that it needs to back up that might show any errors?
