[Q]anybody try to take off the factory film on Z ultra? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I'm taking off the film right now but it look like there is no film on the front....
I need little help here

Dude, WTF!
Just kidding. Yes, there's a film on the front. It's just really really glued on there. There's a whole thread with annoyed people trying to get it off. It's here in the Q&A section. You'll need a razor and a heat source (not a flamethrower) if i remember correctly.
EDIT: Here it is.

I didn't take the progress pictures of it so I'm just gonna explain.
First, you need hair dryer and razor blade. heat you ZU about 10 to 15 sec with hot air and start to take it off.
this film is very odd it is not gonna peel off, instead, it is gonna break in piece( very odd material...)
it will take about an hour.
after you've done take off the file, you will see massive amount of adhesive on the screen.
I used acetone to remove the adhesive.
I might post about how to take off the z ultra film soon since it looks bit brief (I don't have enough time right now )

Awesome job. Did you get a glass protector to replace it?

Wow. Just Wow.
I got about 1/10th of the way through. Darn it all! Can't go back now.
I started this assuming this wasn't going to take an hour. It did. Sharp, sharp razor. Lots of pushing around and post removal of the film, a little more razor. NO scratches. No divets. Wonderful.
The results (contrast the back with the smudgy and gashed - small lines) with the front and it's night and day.
I'll leave the back alone but I'm very satisfied with my even more gorgeous viewing surface. Not my favorite way to spend a mid-afternoon, but it worked.

I saw some threads about this in other phones (like bionic)
Now I know we can't get the verizon off the face of our phone since it is under the glass
but it IS possible to take it off the battery cover by rubbing gently with a penny or a fingernail.
I just scratched it off using my thumbnail and it looks nice without the Verizon in white under the red Droid x2.
Wasn't sure if anyone had done this before. Not a big deal but it does look smooth and nice
Edit:: if anyone knows of a way to get the Verizon off the face of the screen please let me know

I heard if you put a tiny layer of something over the logo and then take a sugar cube and rub off where the logo is it will come off. Haven't tried it myself though.
EDIT: I think it was scotch tape, some sort of tape.

Yeah the Verizon logo on battery cover came right off for me. And it was as simple as scraping it away with my thumbnail.
It came off just like I was scratch a lotto ticket ...very easy for battery cover logo.
Now in the face of the phone is a different story lol
It IS under the glass
That's what I thought.thanks for confirmation.
I wonder if I can get to it by taking the phone apart
. There was a video on youtube that shows how to take it apart and put back together. Not sure if that area will be accessible to alter tho.
maybe ill grab me a broken x2 from ebay and try it out sometime

AT&T? Yeah I don't think so lol
maybe I had one to many beers today but ur posts make no sense to me at all so far hahaha
Use tape to cover the lower screen area, mark out the lower nonscreen area including logo with a sharpie, so you have a black area on the surface to match the lower screen where the logo is/was. And put on a screen protector.
Ahhh. I get it now lol .like painters tape for a straight edge lol
..why did u think I work for AT&T? Cuz I don't want Verizon showing? Haha
Im thinking clearer now can ya tell? Lol

Kevlar stripe - Flimsy ?

I saw on a video that somebody could easily tear that kevlar piece out from right under the camera... It looks loose and flimsy, and not well stuck on the back of the phone.
Can anyone confirm this by sticking your nail under the weave right under the camera ? Last thing I want is to buy a phone for 600 bucks and have the back tear up on me after a month.

In day to day use this is not going to effect the device in any way.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
It's not the kevlar back but the plastic covering on the top (camera/flash/speaker) which can be taken off, possibly revealing some screws. Other than that there seems to be no way to open the device.

This request/observation is just hilarious.
Why not take ANY phone and try to jam an ice pick between the edge of the glass and the phone. Hit it with a hammer.... does anything happen?
Or drop any phone from a really tall building, cause I'd hate to spend $600 on a phone and not have it survive something like.
Maybe put any phone in a blender, cause I'd hate to spend $600 on a phone and not have it blend properly.

Nope, it isn't.
If I get a device and the plastic that covers the screws gets detached easily it's a build flaw. If the Kevlar thing gets detached it's a design flaw. If you drop your phone from a tall building or hit it with an hammer it's a flaw of your brain.
It's different.
I wouldn't pick at my RAZR like that anyways.

I agree. The guy in the vid didn't use force. Come to think of it the OP didn't really meant to use force and try to open the back cover.
The cover we know is kevlar and durable. The material witch glues it on the phone how durable is it?
Tbh im in love with the back cover of the phone. I'd never put a cover/case on it. I wouldn't want to put one out of need( safe sex suxx )
Obviously, DrUnKenSTeiN is probably the only intelligent human on this post.
Where did anyone here read that I want you to remove the cover or bash it with a hammer ?
All I asked was to see if that thing is flimsy and all I got was raw violence by some members who probably have Attention deficit disorder (syntrix, ianford)
When I asked once if a certain laptop was flimsy, one intelligent human pressed on the lid lightly, checked for keyboard flex, and gave me his opinion.
You may say it's not important for daily use, but so does Android OS or a large screen. A smartphone can be productive without them, but this is not what discussion boards are about.
You may be excused to feel embarrassed, thanks.

Would just like to confirm that the phone in the video DOES have a defect. With all the force in the world I couldn't even get my fingernail under the Kevlar, let alone pry it up. He did it with no effort, like it was hanging off. Mine is sealed so tight (top, bottom and along the sides) you couldn't do anything to it if you tried.

And the 18th post is the winner (crowd cheers and applause)!
If your phone is sealed then its not something that all razrs got. Seems like a flaw in the specific device.
Its important for guys that have bought the phone and its defective that they wont think that ,this is how the phone is.

I messed around with 4 RAZR's today at three different stores. I even took out a penny that was scarred and I was not able to even scuff the Kevlar. It's on there on all the edges and sides REALLY REALLY good. And, that Kevlar is REALLY durable.
The one in the VIDEO MUST BE DEFECT.

Meh.. somehow not as sexy as PC with Window on the case. You know, the Porn level is so different..
It would be cool if you can do the same for the front bezel.
yes only you have it
What a waste of a Z Ultra. Seeing the photo hurt me.
The back of the glass has a powder coat that gives it its black shine, I simply went over it with a Stanley blade for 30 minutes and it came off a piece of cake
The only thing keeping the phone waterproof is some adhesive tape that you'll find holding down any phone display which was a shock to see something so basic to keep the water out.
I only Tried it because I've got an Expensive vinyl gold carbon fibre film coming and a glass screen protector in the post tomorrow so if it did go wrong id be covering it up anyway. its a shame there's no motherboard to look at though just a big ass battery

not digging it... but congrats?
Do you take off all the panels on your car, exposing all the wires and structural metal too?
You've turned a sexy device into an eyesore.
^^ @ avetny, BEST picture in the thread, made me ****king laugh out hard.
The .GIF with Putin smiling says it all.
I'm glad your happy with it's uniqueness but to my eyes it has completely ruined the aesthetic appeal of the device. Like it looks homemade and not in a good way.

Writing on the ultra: using soft pencil

Hey guys, first post, after all of the research, I thought you guys knew the most about my new purchase of an old ass phone.
I heard about all the scratching issues when using a pencil/pen. I decided to go get an 8B pencil (soft) instead of the normal #2 (2H), and it seems to work ok without scratching so far (Mind you I made sure the tip was nice and rounded). I hate those thick tip styluses.
Are there any graphite experts in here? haha. Totally wondering if I'm going to end up scratching her.

Put a screen protector over the ASF it will save heartache, and a pencil will still work. I normally use a 2B

I don't know how I feel about putting another protector over one that already has some rainbowing issues when I inspect it. And I'm not about to try and remove that monster of a screen antishatter layer, it seems like its more glue than plastic haha. I sincerely appreciate your reply!

Me too. The ifolix fits very well. Totally invisible.
And does not impact pencil
I find propelling pencil leads are too thin to be reliable.
So 2B or not 2B, if that's the question I'd say either if the points are rounded.
definitely should have screen protector, anti-scratch, shatterproof, plus the ability to easily wipe off fingerprints (with no protection, I have to use diluted alcohol to get my shiny screen back) yes, there's some faint rainbow thing when you squint your eyes really hard and tilt the screen to the extreme side but that's it.
I use an HB with no screen protector, have for the last year. Just make sure you round the tip and then you have nothing to worry about

Did you guys remove the flash and camera protective film?

Just wondering because i just did with a toothpick... now im thinking maybe it was there for a reason.. lol

True, thats what I thought too but I think the phone has OIS which might be the reason for some pics to look blurry if the lens moves.
I hate these things, so took them both off straight away.

It messes with the auto focus and over time dirt and dust will collect around the edges causing blurry photos.
