4.4 KitKat build for EVO LTE - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Since Google built 4.4 to run with older devices with 512mb. Pulling the 4.4 image and installing on our device shouldn't be too difficult.
This thread I put up for us to collaborate info to see what we can do to get this to work. Once a completed install fully works a new thread can be put together for a complete how to install.
Lets put our community heads together and get a full stock 4.4 KitKat build for all EVO LTE owners.

I'm currently not rooted yet. I kind of stepped away due to work, family and personal life struggles. So I have a bit of catching up to do. But know this. I'm will to put both feet in on getting caught up and succeeding getting this going for us all.
Personally I'm tired of Sense and love the new look and function of 4.4. Having this running on my device. I know I'm not alone on this.

The CM team is currenty figuring out what needs to be added or changed / merged in to the CM10.2 code to turn this in to 10.3 Once they are done I am sure we will see one populate for the LTE.

Kushdeck has already started compiling 4.4 kitkat cm builds, it's awesome

OK. So here is my question. Can't the build of 4.4 just be built to run on our phone? Does there have to be a special kernal or firmware or both in order to build a full stock of what Google put together just just run as intended for what specs we have?
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Case in point how we have JB running with a specific to kernel, radios etc.

No, it can't just be built. The nexus device's differ than our device. In theory yes it could be built fairly quickly and easily but this isn't a perfect world. Cm is built by having a device tree, that's the core think of it as well a tree, this is what tells the computer its compiled on what files and resources are need to make the software function with the hardware, now think of a tree growing leaves but some sections are bare or bald the compiler/developer then has to sort out why that area is not functioning correctly its a long process and it takes time. Basically our device and the nexus software dont fit so the process takes longer for a build to come out. Hope this have you some insight I tried to avoid going on and on and being to detailed and typing in binary.

I know you want a stock build but kushdeck just made a version of CM, and that is as close to stock as I think you are gonna get.
You can find it here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518211

I am running this on my phone and compared it to a friend's Nexus 5. I found very few differences in customization, mostly in the default apps that were loaded and backgrounds/bootloader things. Also ART works on his phone, while it doesn't work on mine. Overall it is pretty close to stock.

Thanks for the info. That does clear it up.

I see/hear that CM is working on CM 11 which is 4.4. I'll wait for a stable of that to see how things go. I lookied over kushdecks thread and i see way too many issues that I don't want to deal with.

FWIW, deck is the official maintainer for this device for CM. (With the change to CM inc, I don't know if that may change).
I.e., deck is CM.

The cm "stable" builds are just snapshots, there is literally nothing special about them

Since I can't ask in the real dev thread:
I have hboot 1.12.1111 and radio 1.12.11.1210. I know I have to update twrp, but do I have to update the hboot or radio (or anything else) to install cm11?

no need to update your hboot. update your radio man, you'll see better 4G and 3G signal.

I'm pretty sure captain suggested update hboot around page 18 in decks thread. Thought he said it had something to do with mounting or reading partitions correctly. I reluctantly updated mine.

Yeah, I did, but the change that was going to require it is now not going to happen. Though updating to the rumrunner hboot does provide access to ENG commands which can be useful in a crisis.

Same here. Early next year, my wife's contract is up with Verizon and she'll be switching to Sprint. She's volunteered to take my Evo 3D and I plan on snagging either a Galaxy Nexus or whatever the new hotness is at the time. I've always wanted one of the Nexus variants so that's probably what I'll end up with.

We’ve been hard at work on CM9 since Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) into the wild last month, and things are slowly starting to come together. Google did a great job with ICS and added some really awesome features which in some cases replace or deprecate functionality that we had in CM7, so we are reevaluating all of our customizations. A number of devices are already up and running with CM9, and the focus is currently on getting as many devices ready as we can. The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos. We also have some Tegra2 tablets in the pipeline such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Transformer. Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One. I don’t want to make any promises at this time, but that is the plan. And sorry Droid1 owners, we’re dropping support for you. Time to upgrade
There are a number of challenges that we are up against. Google has made some pretty major changes to the Android framework that break compatibility with older proprietary camera and graphics drivers in order to achieve some pretty insane performance, but I am confident that the team will be able to overcome these issues like we have in the past.
For those of you who like to build CM from source yourself, you probably know that the spin-up time when starting a CM7 build is absurdly long due to the high number of devices in our repository. Koush and Arcee have put together a solution to this problem that adds new devices on-demand to your local repository, saving on both bandwidth and the long startup time. Some other great enhancements are coming too, like a completely overhauled music app, a new file manager, and a new launcher based on stock 4.0.
If you have a Nexus S, you can check out the code and build for yourself today. More devices are on the way, and I’ll send out these status updates as we make more progress.

Wimax shooter

Ok I have been working on getting wimax working in the evervolv jellybean build. I have spent the week only about an hour a day (darn kids won't leave me alone 8)) setting it all up. Im able to bring up the wimax menu and attempt to connect. My problem is that i can get the wimax server to start. If I rip apart cm10's boot img and input my kernel leaving everything alone it boots up wimax server and im able to run with no problem well other problems because im using a little different setup. So I have it down to the boot img specificly the files inside initrd.img. I have reviewed all those files and can't seem to find anything wrong. Everything is setup properly from what i can tell. Im stuck and i know there is alot of great people on this fourms that will help me . I have a github with my device tree and kernel for review https://github.com/flintman

It's not as easy as that... We had to do some more modifications to get it working tonight (flintman and myself). Seems that most aosp jellybean builds had been using a prebuilt HTC init binary, but we figured out how to get around this. At least everything seems to be working properly now. Flintman will be testing it out later tomorrow morning.

Not before I get mine in april
are there wimax drivers that are released, i want to experiment putting wimax in a sense 4 rom
You know I have posted in my public github how I got Wimax working in my MIUI jb builds although I haven't updated it on there since September. What I've learned while trying to get it to work on sense based ROMs is that HTC has about 10000 lines of fairly useless code to sort through to get it going. In most sense ROMs for our device, and of course this is all smali, everything you need is in framework.jar, only the connection service email in services.jar, wimax.jar of course, and believe it or not the bear of the whole thing Settings. apk. Settings is where my focus has been on DH Miui ICS. See settings has all the action for the most part such as all the messy HTCPreference* classes. Those classes are crazy in the sense that there are so many events triggered in each one that most of my days trying to get it to work have been spent trying to follow all of these events to see which ones are necessary and which aren't. The Aosp wimax on our devices only requires a third of that editing and the rest is getting the right libs and modules for the most part. If you do a grep of the word wimax after decompiling everything in the sense roms you'll see all of the places you need to mess with and sometimes write your own smali classes from scratch for the most part. I believe someone could do it without much difficulty but its the time it will take that's most likely the hardest part. As long as you have the correct binaries.

Yes we do need development for the tmobile htc one., but the phone just got out, so will give it two more weeks before developement starts .. Im just guessing
I think devs are gonna start working really soon on our devices, but probably they're focusing on the att/international/unlocked and then the porting will begin because of specific things like WiFi calling (one of the biggest reasons I'm with tmo) and radio compatibility.
Anyways if you're feeling adventurous there are some roms you can flash from the int version.

I've been using some of the ROM's and kernels from the international forum since I got the phone...trust me, they all work perfectly fine. Don't believe all the bemoaning you're hearing about Aroma installer not working either. Simply use the physical buttons to navigate and select while you're in the installer and it flashes anything perfectly fine. Kernels also have no issue installing even with S-ON, just simply wipe cache and dalvik and flash
Currently on Trickdroid 5.2.1 and bulletproof 1.5

I would not expect them to put the radios in the ROMs, since that would mean that people could accidentally flash the wrong radio for their region. It is much better to flash the radios separately.

I agree 100% with you, that's why I said that the only difference with carriers are probably the radios, and devs are not putting them in the roms implying that he someone could flash the international version with no problems other that WiFi calling with tmo

I agree with everyone, I just think we should still have our own roms at some point in our own forum..100% ready to rock!!
Rom kernel radio and all.. Without having to crosbreed over to the international forum...eveytime we need a Rom... I realize it's the only way for now ,I was just saying .
I'm sure itll pick up soon..
Hopefully we get some themed roms that and or cm10 ....Maybe paranoid android ....
Something to change the the whole sense ui if need be .
I've flashed a few they all are pretty much the same looking besides having extra toggles .
Stock seems to suit for now.
Maybe with HTC sense ui...that's all we can expect roms to look like .
I remember roms for the OG evo days back when always so different looking from the look of the ui....to boot animations ...icons etc....
Roms these days always seem to replicate stock loook with a kernel change and maybe some extra notification /widgets built in .

Okay, I'm having trouble attaining LTE on my device. I change the settings to the corresponding network from global to LTE/CDMA/EVdO. So i'm not sure if i did something wrong.
EDIT: It literally took a good 5-10 mins to get a signal for LTE. Very unusual but it was a fresh start/install. I'll see if I can mess around with it more. Also, messing around with "Halo", its pretty cool, bit buggy. ( A notification popped up, slide to open, and it force crashed). Overall, cool ROM. This might be my new ROM .
To be honest I never liked halo so I always disable it but I will say...quite impressive with the port snuzzo....its the difference the rezound needs for balance...and this is a great difference. I'd say this is in my top 3 ROMs of all time to use if you like to modify...and I'll say all 3 of those ROMs have been ported by 3 different developers for the rezound...you are one of those special enough to earn this title in my eyes

In reality it is a small quirk. Will come acrossed these things. Unfortunately I doubt I would be able to fix that .... =/
Oh man Snuzzo... You are so sneaky.
I'm not sure it's possible, but as I saw Carbon ROM on my Galaxy Tab 2 as well as Slim Bean... any chance Slim Bean may work for this, too?
\I will definitely be trying this.
Couldn't get SlimBean to build out after MULTIPLE attempts.

Too bad. I see it is on some other HTC devices is the only reason I thought it may work.
Backing up and flashing Carbon now.
Who would be interested in an ION build without working camera?
@Quantumrabbit
I can try it again but I would have to pull down their source again. Right now I am pulling AOSP right from Google.

I'm still not sure I get what ION is for/does. I know it's a different memory management, but I thought everything going ION was supposed to make ROMs more compatible across phones, which doesn't really seem to be the case... I'm also unsure how memory management affects all the other parts of the phone so significantly.
\Don't go wasting your time on my account. I was just curious, if you've tried before and it doesn't work, it may not be worth it. I'll give Carbon a go, may like it better anywho.
Thanks for bringing another awesome ROM to the vigor, snuzzo! I'll be giving this one a try, since I was running CarbonRom on my grouper for a while and liked it pretty well. I assume this one works great with Funky?

Sense6 Preview (no you can't have it.....yet) :P

Just some a little spoiler for those wondering if we will have sense6 ports on the DNA eventually
no, no one is releasing it right away as apparently HTC will go after anyone releasing m8 based roms
but it is a relatively easy port (well to boot and get basic functions) so its still 4.4.2; anywhere heres some screens (below)
Thanks for the peepshow!

im loving that they are bring back the green accents and whatnot. i was not a fan of the jellybean blue
yay for green!
Actually sense 5 looks better IMO, Ive used Tranquil Roms so long I cant take anything else lol.
How can htc go after anyone releasing m8 based roms. Android is open source so anyone can use it right? I understand they don't want anyone putting it out before the m8 drops but can they really go after you if you out a rom out based on the m8 after it has been released?

While Android is open source Sense is not, you release proprietary software before they give the OK and it spells trouble.
Just like when people get their hands on either Video games/consoles before the official release, they get banned or barred from playing online.

While I'd love to post mine early too, there is a bigger reason for all of this regarding Sense 6.0 in particular.
For more info on the subject and as to why this is considered stolen intellectual property, see this link for details.
I love that they added back a few small things and a few additional things as well.
There is now a native no lockscreen option, there are theme options, font type options, and I probably shouldn't spoil the rest.
None of them are ground breaking changes, but mostly well received in my opinion so far.
Anyway, read that link about the ordeal that transpired and you may better understand the legal precedence involved.
At this point the only thing thrilling about a new sense version release is when it's coupled with tweaks in a viper Rom. Sense still to this day, although I love many things about it, is the slowest clunkiest smartphone software I have used. Playing around with AOSP for a couple minutes and you realize just how much HTC has slowed down Android. I just wish it were faster no lagging transitions and such.
I think TouchWiz is the worst skin. That is really slow and ugly imo.

other sense6 roms will be posted this week im sure
since the version of the leak i got had been slightly modified (deodexed) before i got it, i dont want to get in any kind of stupid drama and bickering over who cant use whose stuff (because everyone has to get their epeen on being first out with a rom that takes all of 5 minutes to port) so i wont release the version ive been running personally....but im sure you ll see 3 or 4 other roms from other devs so it will all be good
im going to wait until a stock system pull of the m8 is available before doing anything else....and you will eventually see a viperDNA sense6 version....til then ill continue working on sense5.5 viperdna :good:

I see you said it took a whole 5 minutes to port... For some reason I can't get mine to port... I've tried four times now and it fails on setting permissions. I believe I've done everything I'm supposed to. Any advice?
