Just wondering if you do, what prl you may be using or radio. I just got mine yesterday and put it on Verizon and I love the phone. I lose 3G at my house sometimes but for some reason Verizon has always been that spotty for me so there may be no cure....Sprint isn't the best either at my house. The best believe it or not is AT&T. Everywhere else though usually Verizon has the best service around my town. I live in Virginia. Input would be greatly appreciated.

I did it myself. I have done many. When I had Verizon postpaid I had a bad signal where I lived but having a signal in the sticks outweighed the cons. I live in the city thats the weird thing but I did a lot of work that was in rural areas so having a signal was needed.

Yes if it's done right you will have 3G and everything working. In my area Verizon is also much faster than Boost Mobile.

I flashed mine today this sh!t is lightning fast 2mbs download and a processor that can handle it (orlando florida prl 000001) I have everything working but I'm wondering if anyone was able to get mms to work naitively. I'm using the verizon messages app from verizon. I don't have a problem with it except how ugly the icon and ui is. Plus I wanna be able to use the native app.

Hello I have a sprint htc evo 4g that i want to put on the verizon prepaid. I have the CDMA worshop. I just would really appreciate maybe a guide of how to do this?? If you know anyone you could point me in the right direction that would be great. I have done this before with this phone but we are outta the metro pcs home area and i have a vanity number for my business so i have to keep this number. I have flashed this phone once but i couldnt get the mms and internet to work. If would help me that would be greatly appreciated

1. I have the LTE rocking on Page Plus, also a Verizon service. For those considering the Verizon network over Sprint's, consider Page Plus over Verizon PP for two reasons:
A. Avoid illegality of ESN cloning
B. Being kicked off the network for data abuse, cause they know those tiny, dumbphones aren't capable of such data usage
2. For those rocking these LTEs on VZW networks, even with the right MMS settings, can you guys confirm that when you get an MMS, you have to MANUALLY hit the download button to download the images? Instead of the phone automatically engaging the data to download the image, and then shutting the data off, much like all the native Verizon phones like the Rezound, for example?

Not trying to be a smarta$$ at all here, bud, but Google is your friend on that one . So much you can find out about it, if you Google it.
But simply stated, it's an MVNO that runs on the Verizon network... Decent support, and service for reasonable price...

VZW prepay on a 4g?
I keep hearing how some ppl have their Verizon 4g phone on the Verizon prepaid service and I need to know how I get that to happen for me. I have a droid bionic with a 4g sim but I use the VZW prepay bc I don't use my cell but about 1/2 the month (dead area for cell phone coverage in the sticks where I live) so I don't want contract pricing. I've been using one of the Verizon prepay phones but they just aren't up to par for me and I love the droids. Somebody please tell me how I get this to work?!?! I've tried transferring my service myself online to the 4g sim but of course that doesn't work and you can't even get a Verizon rep to even discuss it. Is it a matter of getting a different kind of sim for the phone, i.e. a 3g sim if they even exist in the VZW world. Is there such a thing as a prepaid sim versus a contract sim? I'm lost!

Question is will GPS work (i live in Europe)? I seen some diferent files to be flashed depending on where u live for GPS lock. Cant find the post atm thow.
Also for posible recomendation - any good pre paid sim cards (dont need data plan just talks for me and mine wife so we can easy talk to each other when we are there)

GPS files just allow for faster initial lock. It should work fine without. It might take a minute or 2 to get an initial lock once you first get here (not unusual when you make a big locational change while the GPS is off).
Keep in mind that GPS only supplies latitude, longitude and (approximate) elevation data. Maps, directions, etc. come from a mapping or navigation software (but people sometimes use the term "GPS" interchangeably with map/navigation software, which is confusing). For instance, with Google Maps you will either need to cache the map sections you will be using, or need to have an active data connection to stream the map data. Of course, if you have purchased 3rd party navigation software where the maps are stored on the SD card, then that is not an issue.
Have never used a pre-paid SIM in the states. So my experience is limited to my knowledge of the post-paid accounts (contract) in the US. AT&T and T-Mobile are the major GSM carriers in the US, with a variety of smaller "regional" carriers that typically just purchase bandwidth from AT&T or T-Mobile. I believe AT&T blocks the use tablets as voice call devices (on the cell network, internet call solutions such as Skype work fine), so T-Mobile (or a regional carrier that uses T-Mob's network) may be your best bet. I think T-Mobile supports voice on tablets, but I'm not sure of that.
Of course, your tablet will need to be SIM-unlocked.

Hi jprednik,
What you're going to want to do is modify your GPS.conf (this can be done with a market app). This file essentially tells the device what GPS maps server to use for faster locks. There are several servers for north america. I would download an app that allows you to switch those servers, or if you're brave enough (it's really not difficult, it's a text file) you can edit the server list yourself. You may want to verify that there are no GPS configuration settings in your build.prop too. You can pull the GPS server settings straight from the US Galaxy nexus system dumps if you want. That will give you the proper address google uses for GPS servers. Hope you enjoy Florida, from a Virginian.
Oh and as for prepaid...I think, don't quote me on this, you'll have good luck with StraightTalk wireless. They use AT&T bands, the largest GSM network in the US. Hope this helps!

As far as I know, AT&T does not allow voice calls on tablets. You might be able to get it to work by modifying build.prop or some other mod. But out of the box, I don't think it will.
Straight Talk gives you the option of picking either the AT&T SIM or a T-Mobile SIM. So Straight Talk may still be a good option. Lots of folks here seem to like the service, with reasonable prices, and widely available at Walmart stores (which are quite common in many places in the US).

To sum it up: if i leave mine flyer as it is, ill be able to get GPS lock in States. I ofc have igo app and maps instaled for states. It will onlly take a bit longer to aquire the satelites. I can modify Flyer in order to get faster lock.
Secondly; there are pre paid sim card posibilities (i got some info there r non).

I'd say that's a pretty good summary. I've taken my Flyer and also my HTC phone (One X) to various locations in Europe and Middle East, and never had any issue with GPS getting a lock, and never flashed any extra files.
Initial GPS lock may take a couple minutes when you first arrive in the US, as I mentioned. Its just the GPS system having trouble resolving what part of the world you are in, if it has changed drastically while the GPS is off. Ensure you have a clear view of a majority of the sky, and just let the GPS do its thing for a few minutes, and you should be fine. Then every time you use the GPS after that, the lock should happen much faster (10-20 sec). Being connected to a WiFi network may also help get that initial lock much faster (not sure if igo can read you location from WiFi networks, but Google Maps will).
Prepaid SIMs are certainly available. But just not as convenient or widespread as other parts of the world. And may also be a bit more expensive than you are used to. Its just the way the telcom industry works in the US. I've been to lots of places in Europe and Asia, where you can just walk up to a telcom vendor in the airport once you arrive. Its not like that in the US. You will have to go to a T-Mobile, or similar cell phone retail location. Or go to a Walmart store, and go to the cell phone department and ask about Straight Talk. Either way is pretty common, just not as widespread as getting a prepaid SIM in some other parts of the world.
Also keep in mind that 2 of the major cell carriers in the US (Sprint and Verizon, as well as a number of smaller "regional" carrier) don't even operate on GSM (they use CDMA), so cell phone stores (and networks) will be useless to you.

T-Mobile doesn't care what device you're using on a pre-paid SIM. You'll even get HSPA speeds depending on the coverage. I have a 3g Flyer on a T-Mobile prepaid SIM and I've not run into anything I cant do that works properly on a regular SIM-based phone. I'm running LeeDroid GB ROM, by the by.

Good info. One thing to note, however: HSPA speeds will only be obtained if the device is compatible with the AWS 3G band; or on the 1900 Mhz band in select markets (since those are the bands that the T-Mobile HSPA network functions on). Otherwise, the OP will only have EDGE speed. But it sounds like he just wants to use it for GSM voice calls, anyway.

So, I just purchased a MediaPad Honor X1 (3G Only model 7D-501u). My carrier is T-Mobile and I am located in a refarmed/modernized area (Phoenix, AZ). Unfortunately, my MediaPad is not functioning on T-Mobile. I get a 3G signal (and even H+), but cannot get any internet data. I have tried all the APNs (epc.tmobile.com, fast.t-mobile.com, and all recommended combinations in between). But still, no data! I have mobile data enabled, tried both network mode=3G and 3G preferred, tried updating stock firmware to Android 4.4, then back again (couldn't deal with the large font size), still nothing. Voice calls are very inconsistent, most of the time failing before a connection is even made. I tried 3 different SIM chips, and even a brand new one that T-Mobile provided for me, no go.... I have a call into tech support and waiting for some assistance (not that they can help me at this point).
Phone/internet works on 2G/Edge when hardset in the Network Mode, but that is just too slow to feasibly use. Thought it might be a radio problem, but I've tried two AT&T SIMs and Internet 3G/H+ fires right on up with no problems. So good news if you are on AT&T and wan't a MediaPad X1. I got around 4-5 Mbps download..Plenty fast. But I really don't want to switch to AT&T.
Don't think I have any options at this point. I'm trying to communicate with the store in China I purchased it from, but you can imagine how that is going
I love this device. Really! I would definitely keep this as a full-time daily device if I can get this working. The build quality is fantastic (except for this problem of course), screen is great, battery is great, and it's really compact for a 7 inch screen. But.....it doesn't work on the Uncarrier!!
I'll see if the T-Mobile Engineers have any suggestions, and if that doesn't have any positive results, which I'm sure it won't, I will have to try and either get a refund or sell it online! (Any AT&T customers want a good deal on a beautiful 7 inch phablet?)
Sorry for the length of this. Anyone have any experience with this issue, or maybe can anyone out there in Phoenix area validate if their's is working on T-Mobile?

P.S. I have a Huawei Ascend Mate 2....Sweeeeeet device. Love it! But unfortunately it seemed to get smaller the longer I had it. It was time to upgrade to a bigger screen. Anyone else have that problem with your devices shrinking on you, lol?

Yeah I'm on tmobile, but don't have a media pad. I was searching to see if anyone mentioned any data issues on tmobile on xda and found your post. The issue might just be tmobile, not the hardware because I found a lot of people saying the same thing on tmobile' s Facebook page. I also had the icon show up, but no data.

Good to know. I have a ticket in with a T-Mobile Engineer. Should hear back within the next day or so. I will keep you informed of what I am told. My wife has my old Verizon Samsung Note 2 on T-Mobile and it's been working fine. It would also be using the 3G 1900 Mhz frequency. So you would think if the Note 2 Internet is working right now on T-Mobile, my 3G Mediapad X1 should work too. But it doesn't

So on top of not being able to get internet with my T-Mobile SIM insert into my Mediapad, I'm also not able to get Internet when I have my Mate 2 setup as a wifi hotspot and the Mediapad using a wifi connection to the hotspot. Unable to browse to any sites. The Mediapad does get internet while connected via wifi to home router. How strange is that! Again, AT&T SIM works fine.

I have metro pcs ( T-Mobile) had good bandwidth 6\8 MBS but won't stay connected metro put in APN settings witch may it very stable but now only get 20 k witch sucks but always have signal if you get APN settings should solve problem ,metro supports x1
Been looking into this for awhile now. Today, I've just rooted my Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (on 4.3) and I'm absolutely giddy over having a rooted android
Two things I've been finding come up is to change the APN settings (been playing with those, doesn't seem to help ) and to go into data/system/throttle and delete the two files you find there after backing them up to your pc. Problem is, while this folder seems to pop up for a lot of people, there doesn't appear to be a throttle folder in my phone. This may be because, even though it was sold through Net10 and uses Net10 service, it's originally technically an AT&T phone. To my understanding (and I may be a total noob here), the big carrier companies like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc, throttle you when they see you're using too much on their towers. But that prepaid carriers piggyback on the big carriers, so rather than being able to monitor you (because they can't watch the towers, it's not their towers) they install these triggers in their devices to automatically activate when you exceed a certain data threshold (in my case, 3GBs). Is my understanding incorrect here? Just trying to learn from what I read on forums.
Anyone here who can help me figure out how to bypass the throttle, or at least make it a bit faster than 16kbps when being throttled? I understand getting slowed down, I'm not gonna sit here like "Lol but it says unlimited lol" because I actually read the fine print. But 16kbps is unbelievably slow (on full bars/strong dbm signal. Weak signal areas give me about 2kbps while on throttle). Hell, I'd be good with 50-100kbps.......
If you need more info to help me out, just ask! I'd appreciate anyone who has any ideas on how to either bypass or speed up (even slightly).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but typically throttling takes place on the network not the native side it would be too hard to manage however that being said Mac address tracking does seem to take place quite a bit that's mainly for marketing purposes. In the past throttling was controlled by a proxy server. Take out the proxy and you remove throttling. I am sure I don't know the infinite number of ways to limit or governor each data connection but as for now I am using a cc variant that I manually built to factory unlocked spec and no proxy or throttling my only limitation seems to be how far away from the tower I am and the limitations of the hardware itself which I can't complain at times I can peg the meter on a speed test.

They do not use files on the phone to throttle you. That is done at the providers end.
There is NO possible way to bypass throttling.
I'm with metro pcs $60 plan and I feel I'm being throttle. When I first got their service I was getting real good download speeds, now I could barely load a webpage. Would calling them and complain fix it? Lol
I get better speeds when I set the phone to WCDMA only its just really strange

Then why does the throttle folder with files exist on *some* prepaid devices (as i stated, while this is using a prepaid service it technically is not a prepaid phone)? It obviously is there for a reason. Too many people have reported success with increased data speed by removal of these files to not be true.... Also saw a posting about getting much deeper into the phone, doing stuff to dex and jar files, ive been meaning to find that posting again.

Idk, maybe? Youd probably get better feedback if you posted this as an independent question rather than here.
Thats interesting about the WCDMA thing though. Ive heard before that that can help but havent tried it... most stuff i havent tried because im afraid of doing something wrong and screwing up the radio, haha
Some have had their speed reinacted through straight talk by calling and apologizing and complaining and asking to speak to the manager, basically any means possible you have of trying to extract precious high speed from them. But, who knows how long it would last for if you were able to succeed.

It obviously is there for a reason. Too many people have reported success with increased data speed by removal of these files to not be true.... Also saw a posting about getting much deeper into the phone, doing stuff to dex and jar files, ive been meaning to find that posting again.

Old technology. It was replaced with Sims. Long ago. If it were that simple people would just put there Sim into a different phone and have full access again. This can NOT be done.

I also use MetroPCS, but I have not seen any throttling. I would def call them. I have found their cust service to be pretty good. I normally get 50-75mb down speeds here in New York and I use 15-20 gb's a month. There are areas where the speed will be slower, but it is still 15mb or higher in those areas. The $60 plan does not have any throttling.

Ahhh. So that applies to CDMA phones, but not GSM phones, if im understanding correctly?

Man, wish I could get MetroPCS where I live.... Im stuck with AT&T or any prepaid plans that piggyback off AT&T. Super jealous right now, I can only use 3GBs until data speeds become unbearable, haha

Yeah, I used to have AT&T, then Straight Talk. I switched to MetroPCS because I kept getting throttled after my 3gb's were up. The throttled speeds are useless. Now I don't have to worry about data at all. I wasn't sure the service would be too great, but I have not had any issues so far. But that's the great thing about buying unlocked phones, we are free to use whoever we want.

CDMA phones use Sims as well.
You're going to want to use T-Mobile to get the best speeds. If you have a healthy MT2-L03 and using fast.t-mobile.com as your APN I'm never throttled unlimited top tier LTE. You won't get the same speeds with any other carrier.

They are good for data. But coverage is very limited still.

I pay $55 a month from Cricket. That gets you 10gb of LTE. Throttled at 8mb a second. thats more then enough to do anything. I've had this phone since release and use mobile hotspot all the time for my laptop and tablet on the road.

So after being throttle you get 8mbps of download on 3g? What's your speed like before being throttle?
What are you talking about that is before throttle. what providers promise and what the towers actually deliver is 2 different. things. 8mbps is LTE. my brother has a Note 4 on Verizion and on a speed test with 3 bars of LTE he only gets around 10mbps if he's lucky. he is not being throttled. he pays about $160 a month compared to my $55 from cricket. there is nothing on my HAM2 that I cant do with 8mbps. name something....

hi community, i got my usa version of 1 iv and worked with mint-mobile (using t-mobile's network) to connect/activate. Calling/word text worked fine (image via text did not work), but no internet/data connection over 5g/LTE while browsing. Tech support could not get it working and escalated ... wondering if anyone would know how/what could be done. Thx!!
You must be missing the APN config on your device for TMobile. also, check if mobile data is enabled.

Not related to the post (getting T-Mobile service) on any of the Asian firmwares at the moment.
I flashed the Euro, US firmwares and no signal at all. The radio power in hidden menu shows as off.
Does anyone know if crossflashing with this model also flashes the radio modem?
Seems to have worked naturally for Xperia 1 II and Xperia 1 III.
Not sure why this doesn't work now aside from intentionally restricting the phone to the intended region model.
Mine is XQ-CT72 global version on US T-Mobil.
I'm getting 800+, but US version should be better because of better band selection.
Mine goes that fast only certain places.

I own the USA variant of the phone and I have absolutely no issues with 5G data nor wi-fi. The only issues I am experiencing is the fact that voice over Wi-Fi has not been provisioned. Coincidentally my phone also tells me within engineering mode that video over Wi-Fi is also not implemented. Sony wants to point the finger at T-Mobile and T-Mobile wants to point the finger at Sony.
Other than that I love this phone.

I have the correct APN that you mentioned and still no luck for voice over Wi-Fi. I spent over half an hour with a T-Mobile troubleshooting technician and she was not able to remedy the scenario. They have created a trouble ticket and forwarded up the food chain. They claim you will take about 3 days for them to get back to me so cross your fingers (VoWifi).

Ah, that is a different question. that means you are able to get data and your problem is only with VoWiFi which is expected. your original post question was totally different.
Sony blocks TMO VoWiFi in their software by blocking the network code in their settings. You will never get VoWiFi with Sony and TMO together unless you root and hack your sony build settings to enable it.
Your next best option is to move to GoogleFi that uses TMO network and you will be able to get the full VoWiFi service there since it has different network code.

Rats. I've been looking to upgrade from my Note 10+ on T-Mobile, and the Xperia 1 IV looked promising, but VoWiFi being nerfed is a non-starter for my needs. Curse the manufacturers for moving away from expandable storage!
T-Mobile basically did a bunch of farting around and could not provision Wi-Fi calling on my phone. I have confirmed from at least three people on XDA developers that the workaround is to jump on board with Google fi since they do support Wi-Fi calling provisioning.... Or somehow root your phone and find an engineering workaround.

It is Still a good attempt from TMO to try to help, It is really not TMO fault here as nothing they can do. Sony is at fault blocking TMO network code in their VoWiFi software.
Sony has decided to block this service from the second largest US carrier, wondering why Sony sales not picking up in the US

Since WCDMA and GSM are sunset, if you want to call someone or receive calls with your phone, you need VoLTE or VoNR. TG and Whatsapp are not that popular in the US, and imagine someone wanting to use their phone as a phone....
well, I get that. We still have 3G and GSM. And every time I work on new rollout things are more and more complicated because of all generations are still in use. Connecting to a unknown wifi every time seems very not practical and if it is not opened public network (which again is not great) how does that work then? I get it if you are at home/family/friends but my question is more like, no cell signal, jut some random wifi. To me it looks more like a patch then an actual service/solution for the lack of cell signal. Or is that something that you really can rely on?

The issue is when I'm in my local public supermarket there is no T-Mobile coverage in the building. There is Wi-Fi and I do use Google meet and other apps over Wi-Fi but if someone calls my phone number my phone will not receive the call. That is the point.
Someone would have to actually know that I'm in a no coverage area and utilize one of those other apps to reach me. If not businesses, job offers, local businesses that don't know me personally, someone new that I've met etc etc would never get through to me and I would eventually receive some type of voicemail message indication. That is unacceptable when you have children and other family members and friends that need to get in contact with you immediately.

Exactly the point, your phone number is the primary way many reach you. if your phone does not have any 3G\4G\5G coverage, then WiFi might be your only other option that gives people the ability to call you directly with your phone.
OK, but who provides wifi? I get that is is just a voip, but you still need internet connection. So instead of cellular it uses wifi.
Here, in many big business buildings or malls we have indoor base stations, sometimes it is combo indoor and out door. Indoor usually is set up as MIMO so all of the providers share the same indoor infrastructure.
Also, many of public places have a wifi but since we are covered with cell signal, nobody really cares about it. Mostly because you can't just connect to it. you need a pass from your bus ticket or your bill in bars or are greeted with front page of the mall that wants you to register and so on. So using wifi here is PITA, that's why I wonder how all that works there and why is it such a big deal.

There are many places that I have frequented where cellular data and cellular calling will not go through. In those places Wi-Fi is available. While you can use WhatsApp and other individual applications to make video calls and even voice calls you will not be able to receive native incoming calls when someone calls your regular phone number nor will you be able to use your native dialer to make a regular phone call if Wi-Fi calling is not provisioned on your phone. Unfortunately our phones do not get provisioned for T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling apparently due to some issue between the Sony and T-Mobile. So by switching to another carrier or mvno, Wi-Fi calling will be enabled reportedly.
UPDATE: Switched to Google Fi.... Problem solved. Wi-Fi calling now enabled.

So..... I get what it is, but as someone who works on cell towers installations and from perspective of wifi networks here and my knowledge I still don't get which wifi do you use in that case.

It can work on any Wi-Fi network that has adequate bandwidth. I can go to my local Publix supermarket....no cellular signal in there: I turn my WiFi on, I can make/receive calls with the native phone dialer. No cellular tower needed.
Even tested this at home.... I turned Airplane mode on, then afterwards I ONLY turn wi-fi on.... Calls can be made/received.
