[Q] MediaPad Honor X1 no bueno on T-Mobile Phoenix. No Internet. - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

So, I just purchased a MediaPad Honor X1 (3G Only model 7D-501u). My carrier is T-Mobile and I am located in a refarmed/modernized area (Phoenix, AZ). Unfortunately, my MediaPad is not functioning on T-Mobile. I get a 3G signal (and even H+), but cannot get any internet data. I have tried all the APNs (epc.tmobile.com, fast.t-mobile.com, and all recommended combinations in between). But still, no data! I have mobile data enabled, tried both network mode=3G and 3G preferred, tried updating stock firmware to Android 4.4, then back again (couldn't deal with the large font size), still nothing. Voice calls are very inconsistent, most of the time failing before a connection is even made. I tried 3 different SIM chips, and even a brand new one that T-Mobile provided for me, no go.... I have a call into tech support and waiting for some assistance (not that they can help me at this point).
Phone/internet works on 2G/Edge when hardset in the Network Mode, but that is just too slow to feasibly use. Thought it might be a radio problem, but I've tried two AT&T SIMs and Internet 3G/H+ fires right on up with no problems. So good news if you are on AT&T and wan't a MediaPad X1. I got around 4-5 Mbps download..Plenty fast. But I really don't want to switch to AT&T.
Don't think I have any options at this point. I'm trying to communicate with the store in China I purchased it from, but you can imagine how that is going
I love this device. Really! I would definitely keep this as a full-time daily device if I can get this working. The build quality is fantastic (except for this problem of course), screen is great, battery is great, and it's really compact for a 7 inch screen. But.....it doesn't work on the Uncarrier!!
I'll see if the T-Mobile Engineers have any suggestions, and if that doesn't have any positive results, which I'm sure it won't, I will have to try and either get a refund or sell it online! (Any AT&T customers want a good deal on a beautiful 7 inch phablet?)
Sorry for the length of this. Anyone have any experience with this issue, or maybe can anyone out there in Phoenix area validate if their's is working on T-Mobile?
Thanks.
P.S. I have a Huawei Ascend Mate 2....Sweeeeeet device. Love it! But unfortunately it seemed to get smaller the longer I had it. It was time to upgrade to a bigger screen. Anyone else have that problem with your devices shrinking on you, lol?

You on T-Mobile? I received my MediaPad 3 days ago, never been able to get data yet. I'm assuming at this point I never will and am close to moving on. What has your experience been so far overall with the MediaPad?

Yeah I'm on tmobile, but don't have a media pad. I was searching to see if anyone mentioned any data issues on tmobile on xda and found your post. The issue might just be tmobile, not the hardware because I found a lot of people saying the same thing on tmobile' s Facebook page. I also had the icon show up, but no data.

Good to know. I have a ticket in with a T-Mobile Engineer. Should hear back within the next day or so. I will keep you informed of what I am told. My wife has my old Verizon Samsung Note 2 on T-Mobile and it's been working fine. It would also be using the 3G 1900 Mhz frequency. So you would think if the Note 2 Internet is working right now on T-Mobile, my 3G Mediapad X1 should work too. But it doesn't

MediaPad X1 no Internet with T-Mobile wifi hotspot
So on top of not being able to get internet with my T-Mobile SIM insert into my Mediapad, I'm also not able to get Internet when I have my Mate 2 setup as a wifi hotspot and the Mediapad using a wifi connection to the hotspot. Unable to browse to any sites. The Mediapad does get internet while connected via wifi to home router. How strange is that! Again, AT&T SIM works fine.

same problem in Tampa fl

[Q] Ultra basic xperia Z ultra question

My better half caught me looking at the Xperia z ultra. She surprised me with a c6833 model. It should be here the end of the week.
We are over-the-road truck drivers running the lower 48 states. Our phones are on Verizon. I do a lot of calling to book loads and Internet searches. I do some streaming of music and video.
Can I move my Verizon sim card to the new phone? I know I will not get LTE service from Verizon. What I can't find is the simplest questions . Will the phone even make calls, text or MMS? Can I get other Internet service that is non-LTE? Can I connect to my wife's hotspot to get LTE Internet? I may have to get a T-Mobile account, but if there are work arounds I would rather not.
I know around here these are basic questions but if you are going to learn to count to 10, you have to learn how to count to 3 first.

Yes , u can get internet service with non-LTE. You will be gettin Wifi-Connection when you connect to Wife's Hotspot. Data Transfer would be faster cause as you said your Wife has LTE.

C6833 - LTE for T-Mobile
C6806 - LTE for T-Mobile and AT&T
C6802 - 3G for all networks
So even thought you have the single band LTE device, you will still get 3G coverage and data/ downloads. You will also be able to connect to your wife's hotspot and get LTE that way. But wont be as fast as LTE through a provider as its piggybacking.
I would suggest getting a T-Mobile account. (if they have coverage for where you will be)

The problem with the "where you are" plan is we drive 1000+ miles per day. We have no idea where that would be. So as long as I can make the call part work and there is a work around for the interest, I'm happy. The super big screen when viewing load details will far out weigh some of the small draw backs like no LTE or having to connect to a hotspot. We drive for me hours in some states where we don't even have basic phone service.

While I'm not a cheap SOB, okay I am, if it gets to bad I'll pay up for an account at T-Mobile, but why if I don't really have to?
Thanks everyone. While I can find info down to the glue it's stuck together with I couldn't find the basics of can I call home on it. I'll bet I can find somewhere if ET can phone home with it.

Honor 7 and EE signal box issues

Hi all
I was wondering whether the more tech savvy users could help me with a peculiar problem that I've been encountering with my Honor 7. I'm on EE in the UK and since I live in a poor reception area, I've been reliant on the EE signal box ( a femtocell) to get any use out of my phone at home for several years. The box is made by CISCO and was working flawlessly with my Galaxy S4, my brother in law's IPhone 5 etc. Using the Honor 7, I can still receive calls, SMSs etc but am unable to hear the person on the other end (although they can still hear me). I work a lot from home and not being able to receive calls is driving me nuts. I have been on to EE tech support who have been unable to offer a solution apart from sending me a new box which has unfortunately failed to fix the problem.
Since I'm not encountering the issue whilst out I am assuming this is a problem specific to the box, the way it communicates with the phone or maybe a software bug. I have tried fiddling with the settings, scoured the internet for solutions but have had no joy.
Any ideas?
It's a very specific problem and you may be pi$$ing in the wind here, but I am curious to know if anyone knows anything.
I have issues when using wifi at work (through CISCO gear) and my H7, it's woeful (actually there are three H7 users here, and we all have the same poor experience), where everyone else is fine. Wifi at home through a cheapo router running Open-WRT is excellent. I'll probably ask this in another thread, but I'd like to be able switch bands 2.4/5GHz to test and i'm buggerd if i can find that anywhere on the Honor

I suspect you are right-its probably down to hardware compatibility issues as there is no reference to other users experiencing the problem. Meanwhile, my quest for a decent but cheap replacement for the Galaxy S4 continues (after a Cubot 1, Ulefone Be Touch 2 and Honor 7)..might have been better off buying a S6 edge at this rate
Just a shot in the dark, but make sure carrier aggregation is set to Off in the network Settings, and try also switching the band to 3g/2g or 3g only

Thanks-tried both but still no joy. I even swapped my signal box with my mother in law's (an older non CISCO version) with similar results, all of which point to a software issue as far as I can tell. Which is a shame really since its a decent phone and compatibility issues such as this would be a deal breaker for many. I hope the Marshmallow update may solve this-if not, I may have to go back to the deeply flawed, barely useable S4...

Cell connectivity completely drops, then comes back, rinse and repeat

I received my new XA Ultra from Amazon yesterday. Popped in my SIM and started setting it up. It had two software updates out of the box, so I applied them, then started installing apps. I noticed that my cell connectivity would completely drop (no bars), then come back. When I checked in the Access Point settings, the option to discover carriers would appear, then disappear.
I assumed it was some kind of software corruption, so I factory reset, but it continued doing it. I also tried pulling the sim out and putting it back in several times. I can only assume that I somehow got a defective unit or that one of the software updates applied the radio incorrectly. I processed a return with Amazon and have a replacement coming later this week.
I hope Amazon doesn't turn around and resell it through warehouse deals. I have received a few devices from them that they clearly didn't test and I was very explicit in my comments for the return. I'm just hoping that my replacement doesn't exhibit the same issues because I'm not sure what else it could be. It's not my SIM. All of my other phones stay connected to AT&T just fine in the same spot.

It's definitely fully compatible. It even downloads the correct APNs, but then they just disappear and the signal drops completely. I get full LTE speeds when it's working and nothing when it's not. I also tested a T-Mobile SIM and, while it holds onto the signal longer, it does the same thing (drops completely).
I plugged the phone into a computer and did a complete software restore, which didn't fix the issue. At this point, I'm sure it's either hardware or a really bad ROM update. I'm hoping it's hardware, because if not, that means that the replacement will have the same issue after applying the software updates to it.
This is my second Sony xa ultra with the same issue here's what happened
Purchases from best buy didn't setup until I got home had 2 update applied them signal drop and reset constantly I figured it was because I have bad reception in my area but the more I looked at the phone I noticed the build quality on the metal bumper wasn't sealed in some areas so I grabbed the packaging and headed back to Best Buy keeping note of the signal issues as I drove there (disconnected from WiFi of course) I noticed the signal did not drop connection at all on the way to Best Buy return the phone and explain to him the issues that I had at home with the signal and also wasn't happy with the build quality defect so I returned it and exchange for another one immediately popped the Sim in it downloaded my APN and I had LTE drove home no drop issues connected to wifi installed the two updates then I drop issue return

The replacement model I received from Amazon did it as well. Right out of the box, before updates, it was dropping the signal. Are you on AT&T?
I watched it really closely. I think I know what's happening. It's not falling back to HSPA. When the LTE is too weak, it simply drops completely until it can reconnect to LTE. If you set it to HSPA only in the mobile networks menu, you will never lose your signal. I tested it with both T-Mobile and AT&T with the same results.
This is a pretty major defect.
You might be on to something, yes I'm also on AT&T.. but I can't find HSPA in mobile network should it be GSM only or LTE (preferred)

It should be something like "GSM/WCDMA Auto" or "WCDMA only". Basically anything without LTE (except CDMA).
I'm honestly just glad to finally have someone else confirm. The chances of having two defective units in a row are extremely slim. Really liked the device otherwise, too, especially for the price.
I tested it for hours. I never got a disconnect on HSPA when I had that set. I just wasn't willing to live with that restriction.
Me as well!! phone is perfect for the price I paid out of pocket I had a BB gift card. I've been shopping for the right phone for a month now I've had about 5 phone from 700 to 200 bucks the expensive ones we're worth the price and the cheaper ones didn't feed my power craving I'm pretty happy with this one for the moment, thanks for the tip
This may be an AT&T SIM related issue.
I have T-Mobile and with my T-Mobile SIM I have no problems. I tried my friend's AT&T SIM, downloaded the APN, rebooted, and sure enough signal drops just like you're experiencing.
I'm having the same exact issue as previous posts with my Ultra. I purchased the unit from best buy the day it came out and using it on AT&T. I love the phone but the issue with completely losing connectivity is a bit annoying. Called customer service and they gave me the same website to fix software issues. Just curious as to why I'll be in same location without movement and then all of a sudden lose my signal.
I have the same problem using cricket wireless which is using att's network, lte signal comes and goes, this is becoming really annoying, is there a fix for this already, or should i return the phone
So I just got off the phone with Sony and they said I would have to send in the phone for repair leaving me with no phone. I've had issues before with phones and the companies just send you a new unit with a box and return label to send back defective unit. The rep said maybe my provider would give me a loaner phone.... Smh Looks like it might be time to leave Sony. Maybe I'll have better luck with the Lenovo Phab Pro 2 coming out next month.
Same issue here, right out of the box today.... Using AT&T reseller and I would have to agree that it is an issue as was mentioned earlier where the phone is somehow not able to fall back on to HSPA on a weak LTE connection so it just completely disconnects. Strange thing is where I am using it (at my desk in my office) I never had an issue of LTE dropping off with other brands of phones. As soon as I left the cell area and started using it at home or at another location further away I had no dropped LTE signals. I think Sony support will be useless unless we can somehow get past the standard support desk. They told me they have no higher support I can be directed to, that I would either just do a software repair (which I assumed correctly would not work) or send it in to service. Not sure what I am going to do at this point, cannot have my phone jumping out of service every 2 minutes during the work day. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
EDIT: upon further review (using LTE discovery App) it appears that "some" At&t sites are having issues staying connected with LTE band 17 on this phone. I drove up to one of the sites the phone has issues with. It had a solid, strong signal within 1 block of the tower and band 17 still disconnected the radio completely. As soon as it reset and moved to band 4 it stayed on without disconnecting until I moved away from the site far enough for band 17 to kick back in. At that point it continued to disconnect every 1 -2 minutes until I moved the phone mode into HSPA preferred. I don't know what to say about this, band 17 works great on 2 towers within 10 miles of here, but some others and this tower causes the phone to go into a fit. Clearly the phone has LTE issues as any other ATT LTE phone on band 17 I have used in this area has always worked just fine. Anybody have an opinion on this???
I have what I think is the issue, now if we have any way to get this information to anyone who can actually do something about it. I have 2 sites by my home that the phone works flawlessly on LTE... no dropped LTE signal whatsoever. Here is the difference... they are band 17 ONLY sites where the sites my phone is unable to hold a LTE signal when the At&T site is broadcasting both band 4 and 17. That would explain why the rest of the sites around where I work do not maintain a signal either. We need to all contact Sony support and somehow get this information thru to them. The issue is the phone clearly being unable to handle a site broadcasting 4 and 17 which I think is a majority of them.

It's still not falling back in HSPA like it should. If it has difficulty with an LTE connection, it should not drop connectivity completely.

Agreed, but keep in mind that my XE ultra was 1 block from the tower with incredible LTE signal strength and it still completely shut the radio down and restarted. This is not for lack of signal but a complete inability for it to handle a band 17,4 tower. Although it would be great if it just moved into HSPA, that would mean your phone would be in HSPA 80% of the time, even when the LTE signal was completely adequate for the area. This clearly is a defect that makes the phone basically unusable (as it continually shuts the radio on and off) until Sony can figure this out. My concern... there is no way to talk to anyone at Sony that can do anything about this until they get enough support complaints directly related to this issue, this could take months not including the time they need to program an update and fix. Very frustrating.

Frustrated with this as well, hopefully sony fixes this problem more sooner than later
Received an update yesterday and I can't confirm 100% but it appears I haven't had as bad connection (popping in and out). I'm in Houston btw.
I got the update and so far phone has been working fine
The latest updates from sony fixed this issue.. so happy and enjoying it now

I'd like to say "yes", but have found out the hard way that it depends on exactly which part of AT&T's network you intend to use it on.
I created a thread which I haven't yet updated, which outlines some issues I had. Turns out that my X820 as well as a different LeEco X82X (can't remember - same model ) do NOT work with AT&T in my area at all, and I live very close to the antennae. However, when I travel out of town, the phones work great. AT&T can't seem to figure out why this part of their network is different, but something certainly is. YMMV.
At the moment, there doesn't seem to be a large enough sample size in the US to compare notes and find possible network issues with this phone.
I have it, and it works for me in North Florida in AT&T
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
I have more info on my issue with this phone on AT&T, and it's an odd one. LTE works great, but if I am directly under the antennae, or within line of site of them, 3G shows full bars, but it does not work and I cannot place or receive a call. If I walk a block away, and have a building between the phone and the antennae, 3G works perfectly. If I initiate a call where it works, I can move back to LOS, and call does not drop. No other phone seems to have this issue, so there is something very different in the 3G implementation in these phones which is responsible for this.
I wish someone out there had an idea as to what is causing this. One of AT&T's network engineers, who witnessed this first-hand, is stumped and I'm short on ideas to remedy it.

I have more info on my issue with this phone on AT&T, and it's an odd one. LTE works great, but if I am directly under the antennae, or within line of site of them, 3G shows full bars, but it does not work and I cannot place or receive a call. I got an x829 yesterday (live in the US) and plan on using it with Straight Talk/AT&T (getting the nano sim now). Have you flashed yours to a newer/custom ROM and it still works with AT&T? If so which ROM?

I have two of these phones, and both have the issue I described above. If I were to guess, it probably has something to do with initial 3G handshake timing.
One of the phones is running Madsurfer's 21s. It may have been a dirty flash over stock China ROM, but I seem to recall that one being a clean flash (wife's phone, so I don't mess with it much.) The other is Small EUI by aurel V7, dirty flashed over Rom V6-X820 of Bshuy2003.
I have observed no real differences with regard to the 3G connectivity issue between either phone, with any firmware. I'm thinking it is something at a lower level which is causing this odd issue.
I haven't received my max2 yet but I have read through allot of these posts and I remember reading about using the #*#* code to force LTE and it helped mobile connections. Also I saw that 19s CN or 17s India eui has VoLTE support. Lastly I noticed that the posted 23s beta cooked eui that Steve Mars posted has new modem files. You may try that as well. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info, but I think the issue runs pretty deep inside these phones. If I knew more about the hierarchy of the software/firmware, where network negotiations are concerned, I'd have a better idea where to look for a solution. But I can say that I have tried virtually every ROM and modem file available, and this odd behavior persists. It's possible that it's specific to my home site, but according to the engineer, AT&T's sites are pretty standardized. The fact that other phones don't exhibit it, tends to point to something deep inside the Max2 as being the culprit. It's an insidious problem, as one might not realize that there was an issue, unless one happens to be close to a tower, trying to unsuccessfully make or receive a call, with full bars showing.
IIRC, the iPhone also had some strange issues on the AT&T network in the early days, and it took some concerted effort between AT&T and Apple to get it sorted out. The chances of of something like that happening to solve issues with these phones is probably next to nil.
Randy do you have LTE on your account? Could it be the eNode trying to promote you onto a better link and the baseband failing that negotiation?

I do have LTE on my account. The phone is connected, by default, to LTE, and falls back to WCDMA when making a call as it should. I have monitored signal strengths throughout the process, and they are very high, due to to my proximity to the tower. Locking the phone to WCDMA makes no difference.
When the phone doesn't have line-of-sight to the tower, and/or that LOS is significantly obscured, the UMTS signal goes below -60dba and the phone works perfectly. Thinking the signal strength was the key, the output of the tower was artificially reduced to below that level, as a troubleshooting test. It still did not allow the phones to work on WCDMA to make calls, even though it still showed a 3G connection with full bars. I'm not a telcom engineer, but it really seems like a timing problem, where the reflected signals work, but signals received directly from the transmitter do not. Again, the problem exists only at the point where the 3G link is initiated, either by the handset or the tower. Once a call is established, that session works fine, no matter the proximity to the tower thereafter. But once moved into the areas of LOS to the tower with an active call session and I end the call, the phone can no longer make or receive calls in those areas.
Short answer: sorta

Hi
I wanted to buy this from gearbest.
Will it work on AT&T with all the LTE bands?

Alright so I have been using this phone for about 6 months and it kinda sorta does. I am using the x820 one btw. I get about 80% up time with this phone. I can't really make or receive calls without the phone dropping them within the 1st minute. Let me explain further. So firstly, when I am on LTE (if not on 4G (I'll explain later)), and try and make a call, I will usually get switched over to 4G and then as the call is attempting it will completely lose service and say I can't complete the call. Then after that attempt, I will usually get my service back. And it will keep doing that unless I get lucky then if I actually can make a call then I will be lucky if I get a full minute or 2 before the call drops because of loss of service. Now for the later explanation. So basically I have noticed just because I am supposed to get LTE doesn't mean you will get the service. Also you will drop service a bunch and it gets very aggravating! I have verified my results in FL, GA, and TN.

LG V30+ Network Connectivity issues

Hi everyone
I'm the proud owner of a LGV30+ (Hong Kong seller on ebay) and using it on O2 here in the UK.
Phone is fantastic - very happy with it and big improvement on my Nexus 6p. I miss stock android but have removed most of the bloat and installed pixel launcher and it's all looking good.
My one problem though is that I used to get rock solid 4g reception at home. The LGv30+ on the other hand keeps dropping from 4g, down to 3g, then back up to 4g again. It's driving me nuts! Phone is fine when I'm in town but just when I'm at home it is doing this. O2 say there are no problems with the mast in my area, and when I put my SIM back into my Nexus 4g was solid as a rock.
Has anyone experienced this issue, and does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
Many thanks for any help you can offer!
Was the data like this before you removed all bloat? Were you able to test it? If not, I'd ask what all you removed as bloat?

Hi - cheers for replying so quick. Yes the data was doing this before I touched the bloat situation. Only just started addressing bloat this evening and I've only removed a handful of apps thus far...just obvious ones like Calendar, Clock, Contacts, Gallery and Email so far....
I should also add that the reception is solid 4G when I'm in town - it's just when I'm at home When i put SIM back in my old Nexus 6p, the reception is fine so I don't think it is the SIM

Do a backup, then go into the dialer and put in *#546368#*(Put your model number here with no parenthesis, like mine would be 932)#
Try to see if you can turn on all the bands this way?
I'm not sure if that will help but it's worth trying I think.

I have literally just fixed it
In my APN settings I had IP4/IP6 selected. I decided to give IP4 only a try and it worked!! I have 4g.... SOLID AS A ROCK! I have spent hours today with o2 gurus and searching the Internet...so glad to have fixed it.
Many thanks also for helping me out. Appreciate it!

Cool! Glad you fixed it. That would be very hard to diagnose!
I had to go into my AT&T APN to confirm it's already on IPv4. I have IPv6 disabled on my wi-fi router as well as my PC, and I have apps on my current rooted phone to disable IPv6 over Wi-Fi for when I am connected to other Wi-Fi networks. Why? I have my reasons, but it does no harm and actually may do some good. Not only in your case but others:

Slight hijack here. I'm waiting for this phone to come to Taiwan, as I'm wanting to dump my HTC 10 because of it's awful battery and WiFi. I'm guessing many will have followed this route as audiophiles. As there is no mention in these threads of WiFi issues I'm guessing it's strong/not an issue. So, anyone come from a 10, and are now happy with the V30 radios?
Very happy, but I had no issue, even on Wi-Fi, with my HTC10 either (Taiwan version too). Radios are just fine.
Slight update to my issue....
I thought I had it fixed but then the problem returned. After spending ages trying to work out the problem, my girlfriend noticed that the same issue was happening on her iPhone! So I think it's a mast issue... And o2 are reporting a problem with the mast in my area. So hopefully will be resolved in due course.
Other than that, absolutely delighted with this phone. Only minor gripe is that I don't have Volte or WiFi calling as I don't have carrier firmware...i have ordered sims from all the major UK carriers tho to see if it works with any of them.

Please keep us updated. I'm specifically interested if it can access volte on the 3 network as if it can it gives you access to their band 20 4g which is stronger
Funnily enough, I have literally just popped in the Three SIM and at the moment no band 20 at home
Had a painful web chat with three so just gave up asking.
Out later tonight tho so will check if it works in town...
I should also add that I've tried EE with no joy too.
Only thing I can say thus far tho is that x-network HD voice seems to be pretty good. I have done 02->ee (HD voice) and ee->o2. Haven't tried three yet as have zilcho reception at home (seems the mast in my area is affecting all the networks... and I actually drove past them putting a new one up this morning...)

A late reply to this post. Made the transition from HTC10 -> LGV30 for the same reasons: audiophile quality and poor battery life of the 10. The V30 radio performance is awful. I am on AT&T in San Francisco using the H931 variant. I often stream hi-res audio (320k MP3 or FLAC) from the EU and many places. The radio connection drops frequently, stream apps become unusable. It either clears itself after minutes of delay or I force the phone into airplane mode and back on. Quite annoying. I am also suspecting AT&T deliberately messing with the radio settings for people who stream a lot.
Just a note that i am with 3 and they have an app that you can download and it allows you to make calls over wifi. The app is called three in touch.
