VZW LTE-Advanced Question - G2 General

Hi Everybody,
I'm debating whether to make the jump from my aging Galaxy Nexus (VZW) to the LG G2 (VZW).
Can anyone tell me if they have experienced LTE-Advanced yet, and what it feels like in the real world? (I think its live in NY)
Thank you

still wondering

Just wondering if you made the jump? Also wondering if you found out anything about LTE-Advanced?

I haven't done it yet. Still can't bring myself to leave a Nexus for another phone.
Although this might change... the dropping price of the lg-g2 on vzw is becoming more and more tempting...

I did read that until 11 Nov you can get the G2 free by ordering it online and using VZWDEAL code. I used that code last month when it was $200 and got 30% off. I have the Motorola Bionic and didn't plan to change, but the unlimited data glitch and 30% off code got me. Now when I use my Bionic it seems so small, so slow, and I'm really glad I jumped. If you are eligible for an upgrade you are losing about $22 a month by not taking a new phone. Verizon gives no discount for being paid off, so it's cheaper to jump.
Likes for G2:
Root
TWRP or CWM
Xposed Framework and modules
Camera
XDA forum support
Wireless charging
LG add on features
unlocked SIM
GSM frequencies
OTG support
low cost cases
battery life
solid 4G
Custom ROM are available

I understand your hesitation.
I also have a GNex and unfortunately mine was really starting to show its age.
I had been eyeing the G2 but finally made the jump with the recent price drop combined with the promo code to make the phone free.
I don't regret it at all. There's a significant speed/battery life difference. And surprisingly, not much of a size difference.

I second this. I came from a genx with unlimited data to 6g now. I don't regret it. I have been using for a week now and my battery has gotten better.
Off charge this morning with light use throughout the day, few pics at my daughters soccer game, light browsing through out the day and I am around 50% as I type this message.
I also no nothing of lte advanced. I am in a smaller town so unless it is wide spread deployment, I don't have it here.

How is it hard to go from the AWFUL galaxy Nexus to an AMAZING G2?

I wrny from gnex to G2 just last wednesday. I must say that with all due respect to the Galaxy Nexus the lg g2 makes the gnex feel like a flip phone.
Battery life, screen brightness, screen resolution, camera, processor speed, overall feel of software speed through stock rom is nothing short of spectacular. I have rooted my g2 but i have yet to put a custom rom causr i wanna give stock a shot. However, either custom or stock rom this cell phone is leaps and bounds ahead the Galaxy Nexus.
As far as LTE-A i have no idea.

LTE Advanced is not live, nor is it in testing. Tech blogs/news sites lied, it is the AWS spectrum being tested. Currently it is only to be available in certain east coast areas. LTE Advanced is supposed to be nearly double to triple what AWS accomplishes, and at a better frequency.

All of this info is awesome. Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna get it.

Lol I know. Just went to Verizon's site and it says that G2 is sold out. Oh well. I'm afraid of purchasing it through Amazon because of my unlimited data.

Verizon is currently having a promo where you can get 6GB of data for $30/mo. You may want to consider taking this deal as the manager of my local Verizon stated that unlimited data plans will soon be bumped down to tiered data plans, regardless if you upgrade or not. Much like what AT&T is doing soon..

I called tech support yesterday to report a Web site issue. Tech who helped me went way out of his way to help me upgrade two unlimited lines to the g2. I managed to upgrade one using another line's upgrade (which extended that line's contract only four months), upgrade the second using promotions/employee discount, and keep unlimited on both lines. I didn't get the $50 sale, but it was a lot less than full retail ($450). I got two g2's for about 300. I'd highly recommend going to the Verizon store and or calling sales/support first. They have some employees that care more about the customer than Verizon's bottom line. Of course they have some that tell you to go to shared contract or buy full retail so they don't have to go through the trouble too.

i believe LTE-A is only available in internationala areas, like in Korea. not sure if its here in US though. AWS is available in some areas, specifically NYC. my friend has an S4 and after upgrading his radios, he is able to get AWS speeds. not sure if G2 will get new radios for AWS anytime soon though.
as for jumping from GNEX to G2, you will notice the huge difference. better in every way. i was waiting for the N5 but after reading the early specs that it was going to have 2300mah battery compared to G2's 3000mah, i jumped on the G2. even after N5 release, i would still stick with the G2. battery and screen (thin bezels) are the winners for me. i also kept my unlimited data while paying the subsidized price so i'm definitely happy.

Kept unlimited data?

During the first "unlimited" glitch late September I got my G2, but how did you get Verizon to let you keep unlimited data? I actually have major problems activating my G2 and had to use 2 other Verizon 4G phones to activate the micro SIM card to get the G2 on Verizon network. I actually don't know if I swap SIM cards if I'll have a working phone or not, but after 3 phone swaps I quit swapping.

If your on vzw this is the phone to get. Its this or wait 6 months lol. The HTC one is great but the battery life is just ok and the capacitive buttons are plane stupied. The s4 and note 3.. I'll always pass on tw. Its just a really bad Rom. Moto x. That would have been my next phone but they just can't get a decent camera! Leaving the g2. Is Is imo the best of the bunch. I've had it for 2 months? Give or take, and freaking love it. I think knock on is the most innovative feature of any 2013 phone. Active display is pretty ingenious too lol.

The extremely helpful guy from verizon tech support is going to activate both phones once they arrive...I have five lines with verizon; two with unlimited, one is house, and last two are basic feature phone lines. From what I understand from him is that we are going to activate the two G2's on the basic lines, then switch them over to the unlimited lines. He managed to get me the sale prices as well! Two G2's with unlimited for about $160 after rebates and account credits. Hopefully it all pans out. I'll know for sure Friday, but he sounded confident and indicated he has done this a few times before. He had me talk to his supervisor as well and he sounded like he was cool with the whole process.

Would I be crazy to give up unlimited data (vzw) for this phone?

My contract with Verizon ended yesterday so now I'm month to month on my unlimited data plan for my wife and I. I'm really having a hard time deciding what my next phone will be. We're both still rocking the OG Droid, and while Verizon has its holy trinity of new phones out now, each one of them has things about it that turn me off, so I've been having a hard time picking which one to go with.
Meanwhile, Amazon has its penny pincher sale going on and I'm really tempted to just get a Galaxy S2. It's not a perfect phone either, but it has more of the total package for me than any other phone right now and to get 2 of them basically for free is hard to pass up. I keep playing with it at Best Buy and going back to the ridiculously gorgeous screen and insane performance. I'd also be able to save a little money monthly as I could get a plan with fewer minutes on AT&T due to the unlimited mobile to any mobile package they have.
With that said it'd tough to justify leaving Verizon. Their service has been incredibly reliable for me over the last two years, and unlimited data is tough to give up. Looking at my usage over the last few months it looks like I don't ever use much more than a gig of data on either line, but part of that is b/c my Droid sucks for any kind of multimedia and VZW's 3G is pretty slow. I think I could manage with the 2 gigs on each line, but I hate to give up unlimited on general principle. I'm also worried that AT&T's coverage won't be as reliable as VZW's, although I do like that their 3G speeds are much better so it wouldn't be the all or nothing type performance that VZW's cdma/LTE combo gives.
Has anyone else made this kind of switch, and does anyone think it's a good move or should I just stick with VZW?
For what it's worth I live in the Denver area so if there's anyone on here in that area I'd love to hear your thoughts on AT&T's coverage.

Well I believe Amazon's 1 cent sale only runs through Monday, so if I was going to pull the trigger on a switch I'd like to do it while I can get the GS2 basically for free.
As for the Nexus, I'm sure the user experience is going to be amazing on it and the screen is probably killer as well, but lack of an SD slot and kind of an average camera for such a high end phone has kind of turned me off to it. Eventually I'll get ICS on whatever phone I get, but I won't be able to improve the hardware of whatever phone I get.
The phone that I like best of the big 3 on Verizon is the Rezound actually. The screen is very nice and it has all the features I want. I expect it to be a beast when it gets rooted. With that said, the GS2 is just such a smooth phone.
I was thinking the opposite ..would it be stupid to leave at&t on unlimited w/ gs2 still within 30 days return and head to Verizon. :/

The iPhone 2 trick still gives any at&t user unlimited data for $30 a month.
I completely understand what you mean about the selection at Verizon though. Their phones are just not competative.
I have a few friends that were really looking forward to getting the sgsii when if came to Verizon. They were all mad when it came out that Verizon turned down the offer of getting the sgsii. Sure the nexus will be going there first, but it's not mind blowing. Really thought google would've went above and beyond with 'their' phone.
I've really been loving this phone. I waited 1 1/2 years to get this phone. Not this particular phone, but one that had all the high points. Fast dual core, 1gb ram, great screen, nfc, solid dev support. While I'm sad it didn't come with an FM radio, I really couldn't ask for anything more out of this phone.
In my opinion, if you don't go for this phone, wait for the quad cores. They'll be coming somewhat soon. I can't see any reason to go with another phone (with the exception of the Samsung note, but I know I'd use that screen size for my work).

Well there was a thread on it but either it's been deleted or I just can't find it.
By putting your sim card into an Iphone 2 it force upgrades your plan to unlimited. Part of how that phone was designed. There's a few more steps than that but the rest can be found by searching google, and if the other thread was deleted I don't want to be the cause of this thread getting removed.

Was also going to mention the iPhone trick. The SGS 2 is a really nice phone. I had the I9100. Two of my friends have the ATT version and they are identical except the domestic version doesn't have the physical home button. There is even a hack to get I9100 rome on the ATT version now.
If you can get that phone for a penny it is definitely a good deal. Head over to the xda marketplace and see if there is an OG iPhone available. Several of the regulars have them.
The best thing about ATT is that you can swap phones at anytime...if you're a phone whore like me that's a big deal
Good luck bro!

I would for sure reccomend this phone. I came from a dumbphone to this, so anything was better, but everything you talked about liking is exactly why this phone rocks. I picked mine up at radio shack for $50 but that was because I only had an upgrade. I still feel like I got a steal. Pull the trigger!

The phone itself is AMAZING, but I don't know if I could recommend it enough to leave unlimited data. My personal 2 cents.
I would see how att's coverage is in your area. Every place is different. Here it's about the same as Verizon but i know plenty of places where it is not. Verizon's 3g is God awful, but their lte is so bad ass. Unlimited data is not an issue as others have mentioned. Good luck

This phone is the best. I went to this phone from a Verizon galaxy s. I still have my Verizon account though. And am going back as soon as galaxy nexus comes out. And I think galaxy s2 may just be better. But......att is not as good as Verizon. Their data speed tests about twice as fast Verizon but ping is twice as slow. So in actuality they are pretty close in speed. That is until Lte. And 3g here drops off once you leave main cities. On Verizon 3g is everywhere. I really miss Verizon and can't wait til galaxy nexus comes out. I just ordered a rezound for my girlfriend so I'm gonna use that til gnex and let her use the sgs2. And I really love this phone. It perfect. But not worth att. Also since switching I have noticed call quality go down and more dropped calls. Not that anyone really uses the phone anymore. My mom got a thunderbolt and Lte is nice. Quick tests I got 100 ping and 9 down and 6 up. So yeah. Stay with Verizon. They really are better. Even if att has the best phone. And I'm really disappointed with the gnex. Camera seems to be a flop and I think anything bigger than the sgs2 is too big. There are many times I have to stretch my fingers to the top. Not bad but this is the limit. This is all from a heavy user.

Depends on your area I guess. Does Verizon have more of a reliable coverage area for you, or does AT&T?
Also, how much data do you and your wife consume? If not a whole lot, 2GB may be fine for you until you do the iphone trick. If you do use a lot of data, then having unlimited already with Verizon might be a dealbreaker for you.
Remember, new phones are always coming out. Just because Verizon dosent have any phones that you REALLY like right now dosent mean that they wont have any next month or after the first of the year.
Iphone 2g tricks is the way to go with att. Did it myself and hooked up my friends do. Still works ;-)

Verizon Wireless galaxy S IV THOUGHTS.

Samsung isn't planning on releasing this phone on the big red until MAY30 WHICH is very close to June and isn't there going to be a couple phone in June around that same type with the new snapdragon 800 like that new moto phone coming out so I'm.curious wouldn't the new phone in June play the new gs4 obsolete ? Samsung gs4 release so late will make it its own demise ! why is Verizon releasing this phone so late i mean if there's a phone within the same month of the gs4 with twice the power then I won't consider the gs4 when I can wait just 2 weeks and buy somethin much more superior in hardware and stock android Samsung is about to lose a tons of money on Verizon if they wait all th way to may30 around the same month as sum very new phones with double the power .... Why didnt the gs4 release earlier ?? in may when moto announces there phone which will prob kill the gs4 in every way specs and software within 3week after the gs4 comes to store everyone will cancel there preorders and just wait and extra 3week to get the most powerful phone with a better screen n better snapdragon n prob more sensors and better battery and full stock android!

That doesn't make a lot of sense. People in the U.S. typically get new phones when they become eligible so there's a steady stream of people year round looking to buy new phones no matter when they are released. People buy what pleases them. The DNA tanked on VZW and there were no other phones released before it or after it that caused its failure. And it was powerful and had the world's first 1080P display. People are still buying SGS3's in large quantities and probably will after the SGS4's out because the price will be reduced. The SGS4 will be on the market as a "flagship" for 9-12 months and Samsung's planning on selling 10MM a month. HTC, Motorola, LG, and Sony all introduced phones that competed with the SGS3 and it certainly didn't affect Samsung's sales last year. So there's no reason to expect it to this year either. And the average consumer doesn't know (or care) what a Snapdragon, Exynos, or Octa is.
Plenty of hot new phones came out after the Galaxy S3's July release in the U.S. like the Razr Maxx HD, Nexus 4, etc. yet the GS3 outsold all of them by a huge margin. The average consumer doesn't buy phones based mainly on hardware specs.
Verizon is launching it on may 23rd, not may 30th. I went to Verizon yesterday and there was a Samsung rep there showing the employees the s4 and they said the official launch date is the 23rd. I know that's still three weeks later than the rest, but at least its a week earlier than may 30th. I gotta question, is verizons s4 going to be harder to unlock and root than the rest of them? I heard Verizon likes to lock them down, and I've never owned a smartphone I've been holding out for this one. I own a nexus 7 which is obviously the easiest to unlock and root. But i know the s4 is a huge release so I'm kinda assuming that there will be a solid method to root for Verizon. Am i right?
According to official PR from Samsung today, it will be on all major US carriers by the end of April. I'm guessing April 30th.
The Galaxy S 4 is optimized for powerful performance on the nation’s fastest networks and will be available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as U.S. Cellular, Cricket and C Spire starting during April. Additionally, consumers can find the Galaxy S 4 at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile, Costco, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target and Wal-Mart. Exact pricing and retail availability will be announced by each of the carriers and retailers in the coming weeks.

Available to carriers and carriers making the phone available to consumers are two different things.

I.D.K. why the O.P. is saying that the galaxy s4 would be obsolete soon i mean come on the motorla x phone right now is just a nice looking rumor plus a processor in a phone doesn't make all that difference because maybe you saw last year's htc one X+ it smoked the galaxy but the battery was really bad plus i hardly ever think android needs more power right now they need to be more battery friendly and better screen really what do you want more than 441ppi ?? anyway looking at all those gs4 specs and concediring what happened with last year's gs3 i can tell you that the galaxy won't go down till the gs5 is out so don't worry if verizon goes a few weeks later than everyone else it will still sell like hot cakes.
I still have unlimited internet after 4/21 can I buy new galaxy s4 cell using the new 12 month payment plan that's effective on 4/21 without upgrading to the 200sub? Does anyone know I think everyone who still has unlimited internet should ask Verizon this.. I wanna get the new s4 but keep my unlimited internet so will this 12month thing work for me?

I am going to tell you right now that Verizon's phones are the worst due to the spyware they bloat them up with. I hope they do as little to it as possible and there's no way verizon is going to pay for a S800 S4. They are cheap when it comes to there phones and replacing one that has gone bad is near impossible unless you take them to the FCC. If they ever touch my unlimited, I am gone with out a hint of doubt.

I actually find that replacing phones is very easy on verizon compared to sprint. I had sprint in the past and their customer service was atrocious. The Fascinate (Verizon Galaxy S) apparently had lots of problems, and they kept getting replaced until the Droid Charge came out, when Verizon just started giving out Charges to replace Fascinates.
The Charge had some problems too, and if you got enough bad ones from them, they even started handing out the Bionic, Rezound, and Razr too (phones that came out later with much higher specs). I even bricked my Charge and they just gave me a new one.

They had to post something. The basically are going to be releasing with the third world, lol. Its ALWAYS something with them. They did their best to wreck the galaxy nexus, they were in on the Carrier IQ scandal, they have to plaster their dated logo on everything, and they sell pretty much the most bloated phones in existence. Yes, they have a good network, but frankly, I live in DFW...all the carriers have good networks here. It's flat, populated and affluent.
I have an upgrade, but their delay conveniently puts me within a month of my contract ending. My wife gets a ~25% discount through work, but I can get 15% on T-Mobile, and with the massive price difference, it actually makes T-mobile a better deal. I may even pickup up a used N4, get the $30 walmart plan thing, and wait for the Note III.
I guess as someone that pays attention and is tired of getting screwed and treated like an idiot sheep, I am just not their target market.

I may even pickup up a used N4, get the $30 walmart plan thing, and wait for the Note III.
I guess as someone that pays attention and is tired of getting screwed and treated like an idiot sheep, I am just not their target market.

I don't know exactly which options you're choosing, but if you do the math I suspect you'll find that T-Mobile isn't the better deal. I've been doing research recently for an upgrade myself, and I found that corporate discounts actually significantly narrow the gap between T-Mobile and Verizon. Reason is because with T-Mobile ditching subsidies but lowering the monthly bill, the value of a discount on that smaller monthly bill is proportionately less. If you factor in the fact that a full price GS4 on T-Mobile is $630 vs $200 for Verizon, Verizon might actually come out ahead over the course of 2 years.

If he used like 1GB a month sure it would cost less, but Verizon's network has really gone down the drain in the bigger citys. May as well have sprint 3G at times it get's so bad. Now if you live in bum ville sure Verzion win's. But he live's in the city so data speeds will be better on T-moblie.
Also no unlimited data any more with verizon and those like me that still have it get throttled.

If you're considering using an upgrade, that means you don't have unlimited, in which case my question is... why bother with VZ?

It's not throttled. When the network isn't congested (as you say, places like NYC during the day are crap) I still get great speeds.

[Q] Whats your opinion

My contract has been over for a while now and im thinking about getting the htc one from verizon
What do you guys think ? Are there any better htc phones coming out that i should wait for ?

The One is a good phone, although if I was going to get a new phone on Verizon today it would be the LG G2 without any hesitation, it is clearly the leading phone for hard core Android users right now stuck on Verizon. The HTC One would not disappoint though.
Also note that the HTC One Max just started being silently sold by Verizon today, it's a monster though.... 5.9" screen and 3300mAh battery will make it large and heavy, but if you really like HTC and can live with the $300 contract renewal price tag... well, your call I guess.
Are you really tied to Verizon? If not, consider the Nexus 5 and a GSM prepaid SIM... not only is it an amazing phone but it would save you up to $55 per month for comparable service over Verizon.

I was thinking about the one max but the reason I want to get it is because some of the devs from here are switching over to the one and one of the devs from my thunderbolt days also has the one and ive always had an htc phone its what im used to really. I dont go for the aosp look I wouldnt stray from htc. Another reason is because ive never had any problems with there phones EVER with the thunderbolt I heard there were many issues of random reboots on sense but I never experienced any with the rezound it was overheating issues and mine hasent done that either.
I tried pageplus since ive heard that they use verizons towers but the reception was bad... I dont live in mesa AZ anymore I live out in the country in CA now and verizon is the only carrier that works out here.
Wish that was true where I live... With anything other than Verizon you'll have crap signal if your not in your car on the main roads.

my Friend has a samsung s3 and his reception is always spotty ... Ive heard that since the antenna on htc phones is in the cover itself and that it gets better signal but others say that htc always exaggerate the signal you may have..
Another part of the equation is do you currently have unlimited data and if so do you want to keep it...

Do the test drive for 7 days. Test out the service in areas that you visit and live in. If it's all good, then just return the phone for free and sign up. You're not going to be risking anything.
Awesome....didn't realize this was available. ...will do thanks

Just fyi, they only give you an iPhone which IMO has one of the worst antennas in any phone (especially on tmobile).

I'd try moving the SIM from the iphone to your unlocked S5 for the test drive.
SIM adapters are cheap if the iphone uses a different sized SIM.

No idea if he has a S5. But since he's posting in a S5 forum, it's a distinct possibility that he may have an S5 from his previous carrier.
And the suggestion may be in interest to others who subsequently read the thread as well.

Well yeah, has probably has one from verizon...big red. You can't use that on tmobile (as you know).
I switched to T-Mobile over a year ago from Verizon.
I was on Verizon for 6 months but couldn't stand the high prices for data.
I paid the etf of over $300 and never looked back.
I knew I'd make up the $300 in 6 months with the money I'd be saving. Everything after that would be gravy.
This is what I did:
- I had the S3 with Verizon for 6 months
- I went to the T-Mobile store across the street
- I checked out the S4 and signed up. I was issued a new phone number because I didn't want to port over from Verizon yet as I wanted to see how the reception was in the areas I frequent.
- I had a 14 day trial period.
- I still had my S3 active.
- After 2 days, I went back to Tmo and ported my number from Verizon.
I never looked back and have saved a ton of money, and continue to do so.
I have Unlimited LTE data, and never have to worry about data overages or throttling.
I even got reception with my S4 where I could not with my S3.
I don't know if this was because the S4 had a better antenna than the S3, or if it was because Tmo had more towers in that area. I think it was the latter, as the Tmo map showed I'd get reception and I did.
I now have the S5 with Tmo and am really satisfied with the S5 and the Tmo network and service.
I'm on Jump 1, so I can upgrade my device every 6 months no matter what I owe on the device to be traded in.
Jump 2 is now available, but I am grandfathered into my original Jump 1.
Lol.....love it....and thanks

I just switched to T-Mobile from Sprint....and compared to Sprint's horrible service in the Denver area the service improvement is HUGE!
This is what I did (may not be entirely ethical in the grand scheme of things, but is legal)
My 2 year contract with Sprint was due to be done in August of this year. In June, Sprint notified me that I could get a new phone and renew a new 2 year contract early.
I signed up online for the tmobile try before you buy plan. I'm not a fan of the iphone but it was cool to verify the service was better than what I had and worked everywhere I needed before making any commitment to change. 1 week was long enough to know (actually 5 minutes was long enough but I took the entire week).
Kept an eye on techbargains.com for a free or 1 cent tmobile sim card....to avoid paying $10 for one in the store.
Bought a cheap SPRINT smart phone on ebay for around $15.00 (I think...although it may have been $35...)
Went ahead and renewed my contract with Sprint and paid $199 for a brand new HTC M8.
Signed up at tmobile, ported my Sprint number, used the sim card I paid 1 cent for and traded in the cheap smart phone I got on ebay. My next bill from sprint had a $350 early termination fee which I paid and then submitted to tmobile as they will pay up to a $350 early termination fee.
The parts I'm still working on are to receive the $350 etf reimbursement from tmobile (they say up to 12 weeks) and to sell the brand new HTC M8 and my old, still working, Sprint S3 on ebay.
My bill did go up about $30 per month but I have the jump protection and I'm paying ~$27 a month in a payment plan for my new S5.
Long story, but so far one with a happy ending!

Five lines, renewed contract in March so they were all at 350 each still for the Etf... That was sprint, I live in Washington state and calls were great but the data sucked ass, T-Mobile is pretty damn good up here, the fastest test speed I have got is 107 Meg... Best on lte with sprint was like 2.7 Meg... What sucks though is with sprint you have to pay tax on the Etf which T-Mobile doesn't cover, so came out of pocket for taxes on almost 1800.00... But well worth it in the end.
I've moved my personal lines to T-Mobile from Verizon here in Cincinnati. Right now, the jury is still out on the move. The main reason for switching is the international plans T-Mobile offers. I went to a concert at Paul Brown Stadium and couldn't get service.

To Sell or not to sell LG G3

Hi,
I am thinking of selling my G3 because I fear the bootloader won't be unlocked. Root is great and the xposed module helps a lot but I would really like to get AOSP. Verizon is blowing it and LG lets them do it.
The phone is awesome just itself but I am getting itchy and want to move on. Anybody else feeling like jumping ship?
Another one!? Be warned, the last one was locked, and this one will probably be too.
note 4 is my device i may jump ship before note 4 get released on verizon
I'm waiting for other carriers to finally push Verizon into opening up their phones a little bit more. We've seen it in two different areas in the last week, first, Verizon had to change their mind about throttling data for unlimited users, and they also were forced to raise data limits for customers on certain plans. All this was simply pressure by other carriers forcing their hand. Don't for a second thing it was Verizons charity, they certainly never give more away for less. This was simply the market forcing them to change.
I am hoping in the future, Verizon follows suit with their hardware. They may have the best service, but that doesn't give them carte blanche to lock their phones down and have a valid excuse. Phones on other carriers are no less secure, specifically have not been shown to be less secure as to Verizons arguments as to why they do it, but what other carriers do get is a much faster update cycle (software), and flexibility with having your phone the way you want it.
I'm on the fence as to the original question - Sell or keep. Hell, my stereo in my car is Carplay ready with the update that came out yesterday for Pioneer, I may just jump ship to the iPhone Plus and be done with it all. I'd sure miss my Android, but ****, if I am locked down and can't use AOSP, then I might as well be locked down and unable to use AOSP and have all the features integrated with my car. I've been an android user for half a decade, and had an iPhone back in the day... Guess we'll see.

Sell it. We don't need any wishy washy users to have this phone.
For anyone who wants AOSP why not just get a nexus? Even with the unlocked boot loader on my Galaxy G3 AOSP was always buggy so I'm sure this phone will have AOSP bugs as well...

Yeah I will definitely pick one up as well if it does come to Verizon, and if its lower cost like they usually are. Knowing Verizon they will just jack the price up though. Gonna hold out for boot loader unlock or work-around. I am keeping the faith. I don't want to drop this phone and miss out on its potential being met with stock and AOSP ROMs.

My 4 week old G3 is currently for sale on Swappa as well as Craigslist. I like it, but it's not what I want long term. I'm actually thinking of moving on to the iPhone 6 (maybe the Plus). I'm also interested in what the Nexus 6 has to offer.
The nexus7 LTE does run on the Verizon network.
I run my Verizon LG G3 on my T-Mobile 5gig $30 sim mainly, as I have other uses for my unlimited data Verizon sim.

It's fine, I was just warning you that there was another one
I love my G3. It's perfect for a lot of things, and while an unlocked bootloader now would be a bonus, it is in no way a hindrance or disappointment at this stage.
With that said, I am seriously eyeing the reports for the Droid Turbo Verizon is set to release soon. Their last line of Droids based on the original Moto X eventually got root/unlock. A nice plus. But personally, it's the voice actions that intrigue me. That and the added functionality that hardware such as the Moto Hint will have with it, that I wouldn't have while using it with the G3. And frankly, I always got better reception with my old Bionic than I ever did with my Galaxy S4 (which was crap) and the G3 (significantly better than the S4, but still not quite as good as the Bionic was). However, it'll be dead in the water for me if it lacks a MicroSD slot.
Why the Droid Turbo over the Moto X 2014? Battery life, battery life and battery life.
For now, I'd say keep the G3. Even without an unlocked bootloader yet, it is a phenomenal device that readily bests the M8, S5 and Moto X 2014 (due to battery). Does it best the Note 4 though? Time will tell. Personally it does, but that is due to an extreme dislike of TouchWiz.
Sell!
