The One is a good phone, although if I was going to get a new phone on Verizon today it would be the LG G2 without any hesitation, it is clearly the leading phone for hard core Android users right now stuck on Verizon. The HTC One would not disappoint though.
Also note that the HTC One Max just started being silently sold by Verizon today, it's a monster though.... 5.9" screen and 3300mAh battery will make it large and heavy, but if you really like HTC and can live with the $300 contract renewal price tag... well, your call I guess.
Are you really tied to Verizon? If not, consider the Nexus 5 and a GSM prepaid SIM... not only is it an amazing phone but it would save you up to $55 per month for comparable service over Verizon.

I was thinking about the one max but the reason I want to get it is because some of the devs from here are switching over to the one and one of the devs from my thunderbolt days also has the one and ive always had an htc phone its what im used to really. I dont go for the aosp look I wouldnt stray from htc. Another reason is because ive never had any problems with there phones EVER with the thunderbolt I heard there were many issues of random reboots on sense but I never experienced any with the rezound it was overheating issues and mine hasent done that either.
I tried pageplus since ive heard that they use verizons towers but the reception was bad... I dont live in mesa AZ anymore I live out in the country in CA now and verizon is the only carrier that works out here.

Wish that was true where I live... With anything other than Verizon you'll have crap signal if your not in your car on the main roads.

my Friend has a samsung s3 and his reception is always spotty ... Ive heard that since the antenna on htc phones is in the cover itself and that it gets better signal but others say that htc always exaggerate the signal you may have..

Another part of the equation is do you currently have unlimited data and if so do you want to keep it...

Work for AT&T, but want a Verizon Razr.

Ok this might sound wierd, but I work for AT&T and have a Galaxy S II, and get my cell service for free.
But I am obsessed with the Droid Razr. I dunno what it is about that phone, but I really want it! But I am having trouble justifying to myself having to pay for Verizon service every month when I get my current AT&T service for free.
I was also looking at maybe getting an imported xt910, but what worries me is there wouldn't be any warranty in the USA if ya needed it. Plus the Verizon Razr is LTE and I live in an LTE area.
So I know this is a weird thread, but just curious to see if you guys thinks it's too crazy of a thing to do just for a phone? I stopped at Best Buy today again to play with the Razr, and spent about 30 minutes with it. There isn't a whole heck of a lot of difference between that and my GS2, but I am still drawn to the Razr.
I must be crazy.
You should stop drinking. Its making you crazy.
Joe
If you really like it that much, then just pick up the GSM xt910 version. Simple.
There will always be new phones coming... I wouldn't upset the apple cart too much just because of one particular device. I say stick with your free service which we all wish we had and find yourself a GSM RAZR as suggested above. LTE isn't worth making any huge jumps for...yet.
AT&T LTE is great too. Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket has a good dev community and is LTE =D Only problem being you need to be in one of...4 or 5 AT&T LTE zones.

Don't switch from free service. My Verizon bill rapes me.
GS2 is a fantastic phone.

I have both Verizon and AT&T, and when I compare both bIll Verizon is a bit more expensive each month. They have more fees than AT&T. *shrug*
You must have been on shrooms while typing this.
Do what I did, buy a Motor Razr (Rogers Canada Version), unlock it, and throw your sim in it. I'm using at&ts $10 unlimited "dumbphone plan" and getting 7 megs down and 2 up. Its no Verizon 4G LTE but decent speeds for $10 with unlimited data is an ok trade off. Oh yeah and you can use the mobile hotspot app with the dumbphone plan as much as you want XD I used 10gb last month.

Good analogy.
Actually I was thinking the same thing.
But I'm still up in the air on whether to get the Verizon razr or an unlocked xt910 to use on att.
I'd be paying around $80 or so a month for Verizon. I probably spend three times that amount each month on just Starbucks. So if I just cut back on my coffee it would work out. Hehe

Fully functional ICS Photon or galaxy nexus?

Which would u choose? I'm figthin the urge to go buy the galaxy nexus Sunday I love the photon and thinking it may be better to wait on a fully functional stable joker rom cuz I miss hbo go...I don't really believe Motorola is actually gonna update this phone to ICS in the future and I'm not worried about LTE just yet I'll jump on that train when it actually rolls out in my area

Absolutely positively zero question, the Galaxy nexus all the way.
My friend has one, I've spent extensive time using it. Simply the best phone I've ever used, it was phone of the year last year.
Also, being a Nexus phone - you will get the first updates for new OS'es . My sisters Nexus S got ICS already. Effen Motorola said what... November?
Jokers work is awesome, and I thank him profusely. I hope Motorola hires him!
For me, this phone is a red headed stepchild. Moto only cars about Verizon customers. I'm never buying a moto phone again.

The Nexus is already obsolete. I'd wait and see what the Galaxy SIII has to offer when Samsung makes the announcement on May 3. I'm not impressed by Sprint's verison of the HTC One X. HTC lost me after releasing that piece of crap Evo 3D (always losing signal and roaming). And according to the FCC test results, the radio in the EVO 4G LTE seems to be crappy as well.
Question
galaxy nexus is be OK,I think that..

Have you not been paying attention to all the Epic 4G Touch issues? For months the phone would just randomly drop service without letting you know and you had to reboot to restore it. The radio in it is garbage on top of that. The Photon radio is a serious step up. Every single phone Samsung has released for Sprint has had major issues.
I really dont like my Photon and it will be the last Motorola phone I buy. My wife has a DroidX2 Global on Verizon and its a piece of crap too. She's probably going to go to an iPhone (Its her work phone and they have discontinued Android devides so its either iPhone or BB) and Im going to get a HTC One when it comes up for sale on Sprint. Maybe Ill give her my Photon for her Sprint line. She has an OG Epic she uses on Sprint but she probably hasnt made 10 calls on it in a year.

I'd hardly call it obsolete. Yes S3 series is going to get announced. HTC and Moto lost me, and a pure google with with no crappy skin is awesome.
Also, the Nexus community have dialed the roms in for that phone like race cars. The Roms and kernels are awesome.
Interesting about phones.. 5 months is considered obsolete. My intel i7-920 overclocked to 3.8Ghz is still an awesome computer. They chip was launched in 08.
My 2 cents!

The Photon is the best piece of hardware Sprint has to offer right now.
The Galaxy Nexus is just a tweaked Galaxy SII. I was a big HTC fan until the EVO 3D and I know Samsung phones aren't known for stellar radio performance, neither does HTC.
I'm waiting on the Galaxy SIII, but back to the OP's question.
I would go with a Galaxy Nexus because the display is absolutely gorgeous.
I owned one for a few weeks. Took it back because I'm on the edge of 2 Verizon LTE towers and would lose signal quite often. I know it's not isolated to the Nexus because a friend of mine owns the Verizon equivalent of the Photon (can't remember the name right now) and has the same LTE issues problem.
i been kickin around the same idea, and this EVO LTE is looking even better with a 1.5 GHz processor!?!?!
BUT.... i look back on the pros and cons
If i switch to the Nexus or EVO LTE
Pros(even tho they end up sounding like cons
-Faster Processor (even tho we have 1.3 OC i still clock down to 1.0, so not too powerful of persuasion.
-LTE - BUT... sprint is adding this technology and it will be WIP.
Screen - no doubt its a better screen, BUT it will probably chew more power
-1080p camera (but the devs are working on this for the photon)
-Official ICS (BUT id end up wiping out and flashing CM9 so im back to where i am now)
-Lighter - this is one pro that i cant argue, the EVO LTE is a feather!
-Front camera - 1.3 v vga (not a biggy for me)
Cons
-Only CDMA, less radios, less cell signal probably
-$$$ it will take a few bills outta my pocket
-phone is bigger and will be bigger in the jeans pocket
-more attractive to be stolen at the gym
when i rethink everything through, i honesty am more tempted to go buy a second photon for backup. The photon is not at a huge hardware disadvantage. software wise... just think how fast joker has done what he has done with using code out of the air. Im sittin my fat ass down with the photon for a long time.
Once or IF sprint ever comes back out with a worldwide android phone that can beat the Photon in the ring, THEN ill switch over. but for now, the photon has too great of devs, and amazing radios that i cant ignore. a phone is for communications, and without great radios, well... your SOL.
my 2 cents
Just hope this great devs don't switch over to an lte phone lol

Easy choice. The Galaxy Nexus. As much as I love the Photon, people need to look beyond the software UI when choosing a phone. Galaxy Nexus has LTE capability, Photon has Wimax capability. Wimax is on its way out while LTE is on its way in. The LTE footprint by Sprint will be nationwide whereas the Wimax footprint is standing put.
Get the Galaxy Nexus because even joker's rom is stock ICS which is what the galaxy nexus is anyways except you will get LTE capability at some point in the future depending on which market you live in.

My post was in response to the MIUI comment
Sorry I thought I quoted the post.
ICS is pretty cool but it should not be the primary driver in making this decision. The Photon is already running CM9 and it will get official ICS support later this year. You need to compare specs between these two phones and match them to your lifestyle. Me, I live in a suburban area where the signal strength is only OK. I used to get a decent signal outside and in different spots within my house but now that I have a Photon that has all changed. I get signal almost everywhere. I don't have 4G in my area so I'm able to run CM9 as my daily driver with zero complaints. In my opinion the Photon is superior but if I lived in the middle of Manhattan I'd probably be rocking a Galaxy Nexus because the city's coverage is much better and Manhattan will get LTE.
The Galaxy Nexus and Photon are really apples and oranges. One is a Wimax phone while the other is an LTE phone. There are some areas with both types of 4G, but for the most part if you're not in the buildout you'd be stuck with 3G data. One is $150 on craigslist and the other is $200 on contract.
Its better to compare the Galaxy Nexus to the HTC EVO 4G LTE. In that respect, the only advantage to the Galaxy Nexus is being a Google-supported device. That really doesn't mean much to me, since Google has shown that they only care about one generation past, and ICS only just came to the Nexus S 4G last week, even the HTC Sensation and the international Galaxy S2 got ICS before that.
Even if you have a fully functional Photon with ICS though, which doesn't exist, the Galaxy Nexus is still better. And you better be prepared to pay $400+ more for the privilege.

Worth Another 2-Year Contract?

So my Sprint 2-year contract has expired and my father and I are looking to upgrade our EVO 4G's.
Question is, is the Galaxy S III the phone we should get? Or is there something better right around the corner?
-Thanks! :good:

I don't believe ANY phone is worth a 2-year contract! But that's me...
I've been buying un-contracted phones for 3-4 years now and haven't looked back
If you're on Sprint, you may want to consider the EVO 4G LTE too. I've played around with a friends and it's pretty sexy stuff.
Is it worth the upgrade, YES!
Any other choices... well, you could always buy the original Epic for around $200 off contract, and have a phone that runs CM9 (ICS) and will be getting CM10 (JB) when the rest of the officially CM supported phones do.
I upgraded my GF's ET4G to the SGS3 right away, but you couldn't pry my original Epic out of my hands at this point
Also, I would NOT get the HTC, period, end of story.
And there is always something better around the corner.. ALWAYS... ROFL!
It depends on the service you have where you are,but im sure you can do better then sprint.never been impressed with them. Check Tmobile.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I don't have many options carrier-wise in my part of the country, so that makes the contract a bit more worth it. AT&T is the only carrier with reasonable signal in my area, so the freedom an off-contract phone would grant me would not be worth the price. I'd rather get the subsidized price!
I'd say go for it! But if I was you I would look into another carrier. Sprint 3G is god awful! I switched to ATT and I love their service out where I live. Fast and much better speeds. One thing to consider if you like to root and flash the Verizon version has a locked bootloader.

HTC Rezound MAY not be receiving Jellybean....

HTC has confirmed updates to jellybean for HTC phones... on Rodgers, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
This can be taken two ways:
1) No vzw phones are receive it, meaning that the Incredible 4G LTE won't be receiving it too, or
2) They have yet to say about Verizon phones updates.
This is should not be taken as final word since, well, the have actually said. Also, this isn't a very different upgrade, meaning it is similar to Ics and is not as big of an update as gb->ics. Also, this is only our first major update, when phones like the Incredible 2 is receiving ics.
Sources: http://www.discussmarket.com/htc-and-samsung-confirm-jelly-bean-4-1-upgrade
If this becomes a flame war or an off topic thread, I will shut it down.
Probably that's just the first wave because no way in hell will they not update that Dinc 4G... .anyway the Rezound has yet to get ICS so I doubt we will see any JB anytime before a year from now

I would base the assumption on the T-Bolt getting ICS. It's supposed to, so I would think if it does, we'd get JB sometime next year (3rd or 4th quaryer if at all).

It is pretty incredible that 4.1 is out, and the Rezound is still officially on 2.3. I would assume, however, that the Rezound will get JB. It's too new not to. This is where HTC is falling apart though--too many models, too many software updates.

problems are more with verizon. HTC has had ICS for the rezound available for awhile now. It seems that verizon is holding it back considering other phones released around that time on other carriers have gotten it.
Once my contract with verizon is done, I'm switching to AT&T
I think we will get it, but what do I know. By the time we do, most of us will probably be fed up and move on. If our devs can get the AOSP stuff fixed up, who cares what HTC/Verizon does at that point though. It's weird how HTC has seemingly fallen. I looked at them as the standard back in my Eris and Inc days. Now I would probably pick most any other manufacturer over them after this phone and the Thunderbolt.

I'm not sure what I will do. Still under contract until next summer and by then, there will be more changes. A lot of family is on verizon and I have 4 lines with unlimited data. I will probably stay put until that ends. AT&T would probably be my first choice with sprint being second. Sprint already has lte live most places I go (San Antonio, Dallas). T-mobile sucks inside buildings and I'm guessing sprint lte being on a higher frequency will as well.

I CHOSE verizon for this 2 year contract. I wanted tmobile, so we got a sensation but tmobile has ****ty service where I live. So I ended up getting Rezound for free. I could have gotten AT&T because I could have gotten any phone on sprint verizon or AT&T free but I chose verizon. Next time, I am going to chose AT&T. Just cuz I'm a kid doesn't mean I have no say
AT&T isn't going to be any kind of magic fix. Their policies are pretty reliably in step with Verizon. You'll see similar changes on AT&T within a year. The problem with HTC updating is everything to do with Verizon being assholes about their bloatware being on the phone. Every button that can be, has to have $ for Verizon attached to it. Hence the big delay with the Nexus and the removal of Google Wallet NFC stuff.
As soon as I'm able, I'm going to be looking at some of the prepaid plans. I should be able to cut my monthly by 20-25% over my "Family" plan now.
i would only switch to tmo or sprint and sprint has ****ty service here so that leave tmo...

I don't know when I was looking at carriers T-Mobile had some pretty ****ty phones. Guess its gotten a little better. I didn't realize that AT&T had upgraded all/any of their HTC handsets to ICS.
all you suckers can easily leave verizon cuz you're getting ripped off as it is...
unfortunately, i can't. my bill is MAD cheap because i've been with them for 15+ years, so i can't go anywhere else because i'll automatically be paying more.
man my parents have been with them for like 11 years and we pay $180 a month
I think unless you buy google's flagship development device like the nexus, you will be behind at least 1 version of android os no matter what carrier you have. It's a distinguishing selling point for new phones that are out. Personally, I think the rezound kicks every phone's ass that verizon sells aside from the GS3, but verizon wants to keep customers renewing their contracts every 18 months. They get nothing from people if they are keeping their old phones that are being continually updated with new software.
Don't know why carriers are so anxious to sell new phones when they loose money on them. Contracts don't keep customers good service and pricing does.
I pay $104 for just my rezound + insurance

Although this might change... the dropping price of the lg-g2 on vzw is becoming more and more tempting...

I did read that until 11 Nov you can get the G2 free by ordering it online and using VZWDEAL code. I used that code last month when it was $200 and got 30% off. I have the Motorola Bionic and didn't plan to change, but the unlimited data glitch and 30% off code got me. Now when I use my Bionic it seems so small, so slow, and I'm really glad I jumped. If you are eligible for an upgrade you are losing about $22 a month by not taking a new phone. Verizon gives no discount for being paid off, so it's cheaper to jump.
Likes for G2:
Root
TWRP or CWM
Xposed Framework and modules
Camera
XDA forum support
Wireless charging
LG add on features
unlocked SIM
GSM frequencies
OTG support
low cost cases
battery life
solid 4G
Custom ROM are available
I understand your hesitation.
I also have a GNex and unfortunately mine was really starting to show its age.
I had been eyeing the G2 but finally made the jump with the recent price drop combined with the promo code to make the phone free.
I don't regret it at all. There's a significant speed/battery life difference. And surprisingly, not much of a size difference.
I second this. I came from a genx with unlimited data to 6g now. I don't regret it. I have been using for a week now and my battery has gotten better.
Off charge this morning with light use throughout the day, few pics at my daughters soccer game, light browsing through out the day and I am around 50% as I type this message.
I also no nothing of lte advanced. I am in a smaller town so unless it is wide spread deployment, I don't have it here.

How is it hard to go from the AWFUL galaxy Nexus to an AMAZING G2?
I wrny from gnex to G2 just last wednesday. I must say that with all due respect to the Galaxy Nexus the lg g2 makes the gnex feel like a flip phone.
Battery life, screen brightness, screen resolution, camera, processor speed, overall feel of software speed through stock rom is nothing short of spectacular. I have rooted my g2 but i have yet to put a custom rom causr i wanna give stock a shot. However, either custom or stock rom this cell phone is leaps and bounds ahead the Galaxy Nexus.
As far as LTE-A i have no idea.

Hi Everybody,
I'm debating whether to make the jump from my aging Galaxy Nexus (VZW) to the LG G2 (VZW).
Can anyone tell me if they have experienced LTE-Advanced yet, and what it feels like in the real world? (I think its live in NY)
Thank you

LTE Advanced is not live, nor is it in testing. Tech blogs/news sites lied, it is the AWS spectrum being tested. Currently it is only to be available in certain east coast areas. LTE Advanced is supposed to be nearly double to triple what AWS accomplishes, and at a better frequency.

All of this info is awesome. Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna get it.

Lol I know. Just went to Verizon's site and it says that G2 is sold out. Oh well. I'm afraid of purchasing it through Amazon because of my unlimited data.

Verizon is currently having a promo where you can get 6GB of data for $30/mo. You may want to consider taking this deal as the manager of my local Verizon stated that unlimited data plans will soon be bumped down to tiered data plans, regardless if you upgrade or not. Much like what AT&T is doing soon..
I called tech support yesterday to report a Web site issue. Tech who helped me went way out of his way to help me upgrade two unlimited lines to the g2. I managed to upgrade one using another line's upgrade (which extended that line's contract only four months), upgrade the second using promotions/employee discount, and keep unlimited on both lines. I didn't get the $50 sale, but it was a lot less than full retail ($450). I got two g2's for about 300. I'd highly recommend going to the Verizon store and or calling sales/support first. They have some employees that care more about the customer than Verizon's bottom line. Of course they have some that tell you to go to shared contract or buy full retail so they don't have to go through the trouble too.

i believe LTE-A is only available in internationala areas, like in Korea. not sure if its here in US though. AWS is available in some areas, specifically NYC. my friend has an S4 and after upgrading his radios, he is able to get AWS speeds. not sure if G2 will get new radios for AWS anytime soon though.
as for jumping from GNEX to G2, you will notice the huge difference. better in every way. i was waiting for the N5 but after reading the early specs that it was going to have 2300mah battery compared to G2's 3000mah, i jumped on the G2. even after N5 release, i would still stick with the G2. battery and screen (thin bezels) are the winners for me. i also kept my unlimited data while paying the subsidized price so i'm definitely happy.
Kept unlimited data?

During the first "unlimited" glitch late September I got my G2, but how did you get Verizon to let you keep unlimited data? I actually have major problems activating my G2 and had to use 2 other Verizon 4G phones to activate the micro SIM card to get the G2 on Verizon network. I actually don't know if I swap SIM cards if I'll have a working phone or not, but after 3 phone swaps I quit swapping.
If your on vzw this is the phone to get. Its this or wait 6 months lol. The HTC one is great but the battery life is just ok and the capacitive buttons are plane stupied. The s4 and note 3.. I'll always pass on tw. Its just a really bad Rom. Moto x. That would have been my next phone but they just can't get a decent camera! Leaving the g2. Is Is imo the best of the bunch. I've had it for 2 months? Give or take, and freaking love it. I think knock on is the most innovative feature of any 2013 phone. Active display is pretty ingenious too lol.

The extremely helpful guy from verizon tech support is going to activate both phones once they arrive...I have five lines with verizon; two with unlimited, one is house, and last two are basic feature phone lines. From what I understand from him is that we are going to activate the two G2's on the basic lines, then switch them over to the unlimited lines. He managed to get me the sale prices as well! Two G2's with unlimited for about $160 after rebates and account credits. Hopefully it all pans out. I'll know for sure Friday, but he sounded confident and indicated he has done this a few times before. He had me talk to his supervisor as well and he sounded like he was cool with the whole process.
