Changing Per App DPI - G2 General

I wanted to make sure LG G2 users know that installing Xposed Framework and using the App Setting module allows per app DPI adjustments on stock LG ROMS. I put together a guide if anyone wants to give it a try and threw in some screen shots so you get an idea why you'd want to change your DPI.

Tested on my rooted Verizon LG G2 (with 1st OTA).

Below 300 dpi testing
If anyone is interested in testing how the LG G2 looks below 300 dpi or any other device. I found that LCDDensity works best. It doesn't retain the settings so you'll return to default value on reboot. Until I got my G2 and started using Xposed Framework with the App Setting module it was my density changer of choice.

Hi, do you know how to correct the empty border problem with the stock camera app when using dpi lower than 480? I tried xposed app settings just for that app, and it doesn't fix the problem.
Edit: NVM. I didn't have the modules enabled. Thanks.

I installed Xposed Framework some weeks ago only for DPI settings.
Works pretty well and I love it.
Only stuff that doesn't work for me is the rotation settings. But that's not a problem. I'm using tasker for this.

I just used the App Settings 1.5 in Xposed. I just wanted to lower the dpi on the messaging app (the bubbles are freaking huge and annoying), and went down to 320.
But the wallpaper behind the bubbles is all screwed up; it shifted to the left. I raised the dpi to 335, but no change.
Any work around?

I flashed the rom spidero with 380dpi, with this xposed how reset dpi for nova launcher?

The launcher doesn't seem to scale correctly and there are some other icons over the dock.

you have to enter in launcher setting, now dock settings, then tap twice any option and back to launcher
Change the dpi to 270 and everything fits perfectly. I'd suggest an app like LCD Density Modder Pro so you can apply a permanent market fix. For the overlay on the dock I'd say turn on Tint AB and put the AB Scale to 1. Doesn't completely get rid of the overlay but it definitely makes it less noticeable like in my screenshot.

[Q] Filling out fields blocks my whole screen.

Question, this is how my screen looks while filling out fields in apps, the input takes the whole screen. It's pretty annoying when you press next which moves to the next field you can't see what the field is. Is this the norm, or is it the ROM I'm using that's doing this? I'm on Hybrid.

When I was using h0tw1r3's CM9 @ 240 dpi, I didn't have any issues. Now that I'm using a modified stock by Flapjaxx @ 320 dpi, the input takes up the whole screen.
But I think it's more of a dpi issue, not the rom.
Hold it in portrait instead of landscape.
I don't know about the swype or stock keyboard, but can you change the key height? I use swiftkey 3 and that is an option.

You're right that portrait doesn't behave the same. It must be a dpi issue. I've had the rotation locked to landscape for awhile now, didn't think to test portrait.
Do you think it would be the keyboard's dpi I would have to change?
Thanks guys.
I'm pretty sure it does that on all dpis in landscape mode.. i remember my captivate doing the same thing
I just push the back button, the keyboard goes away and I select the next field.

I end up doing that too. It's pretty annoying. Oh well, thanks everyone.
Just an update; i flashed CM10 and it doesn't do this. It's so much better to use in landscape now.
ParnoidAndroid based off of CM10 does tho. Must be the multi DPI causing it.
I figured it out. It's the keyboards dpi. On CM10HYBRID-PARANOIDANDROID in Settings > Paranoid Settings > Apps > Android keyboard - I set Per App Layout to Tablet UI. It no longer fills the screen.
I'm using "smart keyboard pro "
And have for about 2 years . The settings allow you to set the field height of the virtual board.
Very helpful when using it on different devices and resolutions.
You could give the free version a go from the play store , but it has a nag screen. However , it retains full settings adjustment.
Hope this helps you ....g

Adjust DPI settings?

I've seen some posts in the G2 threads about adjusting DPI.
Can anyone tell me how they're doing this?
My text messages and keyboard are freaking huge. Like Jitterbug huge.
And what is a good DPI to set it to?

Well, first you have to have root. then after that, easiest way is to find the build.prop text file which is located in /System i think and edit it with some text editor. Find the line that controls your LCD density. not Sure which line on the G2 yet. Someone else help? but after you change that line to 360 or so, that's what i've heard so far, then just save the file successfully then reboot and you should have a smaller resolution.
Also, some people have been talking about using xposed framework to change some DPI to stock for some .apk's such as the camera or the launcher etc.
Hope this helps a little.

So the problem is simply the secondary LCD Density. Can I get the default values?

You should report to google developers
xposed framework
app settings add on
you could change the dpi/font, etc for that specific app which is the only solution i can think of for now
Mine looks completely normal.

Yup, same here, but we're running at 400 DPI, while OP is running at 320. Still weird that the text is so small compared to 400 DPI, though.
OP, what's your system font size set to?

Ohh! My Font settings was "smallest" and one option on the gmail setting was somthink like "adjust mail to fit screen" (translated from my phone language) was checked. Changing the system font size make it readable again. Thanks to all, Cheers!!!

I installed exposed module but can not convert app to tablet mode. Is it about the ROM ? mine is rooted stock (4.4.4) with exposed FW installed

what DPI settings have you used?
After upgrading gmail on my phone, I also noticed straightaway how small the font was; hardly usable. On my tablet, it is fine. I went into accessibility settings, changed it to large; this fixed it, but across the whole system, large fonts are not great.

I had the same setting: "Auto-Fit messages". Now I have turned it off, and it is much better. However, the previous version worked fine with the same setting.
There is still the issue of too much wasted space on the new version. Maybe it is my normal initial reaction to such a big change, but so far, I find it a step backward on phones (tablets are ok).

Set the DPI to 320 and DP to 800x1280.

Status Bar Fonts

Is there a way of increasing the size of the font on the status bar. They are very small and difficult to read.

Really I looked for many time and only editing some framework can enlarge specifically the letters in notifcation bar but I find an option that improves this and it is a feature that is included in almost all nougat rom based on AOSP; changing display size, for access to this hidden menu in miui you have to install from Play Store "Activity Launcher" go to All apps
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
then go to Settings/Vision Settings
Then Display Size
And finally select the size, I have it in this point cause the maximum level also enlarge the icons and can look some weird
And in this roms is most optimized the size of letters, don´t change the size applying themes https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76049325&postcount=65
Thanks :good:, apparently app hasn't been updated since 2015, but working in MIUI 9.5 (Nougat):victory:.
Thanks. I used it to make screen size smaller.
I used Nova launcher activity shortcut.
Thanks, I will definitely increase the font to my mother.. She really needs some HUGE fonts to read hahah
I also found other app that does the same but it has this option "vision settings" more accesible. it works for miui, you´ll find it in Play Store; it´s called "MiAppa"
And an additional step to get optimum size (at least the most you can cause there is not an app that can change dpi per section) for users with some visual deficiency or that simply prefer enlarge all, is to set dpi to 490 value (for miui) and the size letter to medium, to change easily dpi there is an app like "Root essentials"
Don´t combine the two things, display size with dpi changed so display size works better with stock dpi cause the apps that can change display size don´t have all the steps in sizes like aosp roms integrated to display menu natively.
