How to activate Bands 26 and 41 - G2 General

Go to the Dialer and Enter in ##DATA# (##3282#)
Select "LTE" , Edit
You need your MSL Code. This can easily be obtained by contacting Sprint here.
Enable Bands26 and Band41. Priority 1.
Does anyone feel a difference? My speeds here are bouncing up and down with and without this on. Sometimes its 11.38MB/s and sometimes its 7.18MB/s
I just found out that Band26 isnt available, what about 41?
I cant delete this so...

According to another user, BAND 41 is highly unstable as it seems to be either Sprint kicking them out or the software is buggy, also to access any of the two you have to disable band 25 witch is LTE ON/OFF.
3G seems a little better with all three on, and the jumping is this crappy software, I hate it but I can live with it till we get a better update
Also Band 26 I believe is the old Nextel air wave, they are still waiting for iDEN users to switch over to the new CDMA push to talk and also they are still messing with the FCC on that as far as I know
Band 41 is Clearwire air wave, to find out if your in a clearwire area just go to clearwires website and search the signal maps, unfortunately I am not as of this moment.
My shining moment is when they get Band 25 and 26 working and then I will be a happy camper

When you are connected to LTE, you have to verify that you are truly on B41 or B25. To do this you have to use the dialer code ##DEBUG# (##33284#) and click on LTE Engineering to view the LTE band your phone is currently connected to. No way are you only getting speeds of11.38 MB/sec and 7.18 MB/sec on an empty B41 LTE carrier.

I can't even connect to 4G! Every time I try it connects for about 20sec then disconnects. I believe it has to do with holder hardware for lte in my area and that a ota will need to happen to fix it.

Yes odd, I'm in Portland Oregon, made these changes and my Band shows 50. I can't find any mention of a Band 50 on the interwebs.
*edit*
Doing some testing, I reset my data connection by turning airplane mode on/off, it connected to Band 25, my speed was 4.11/1.78 mpbs. I turned Wifi back on..and now it's showing Band 50 again. I repeated the test with the same results.
Perhaps the phone sets LTE Engineering mode to Band 50 while in wifi?

Did you guys verify if you had the 4GLTE icon displaying when you saw B50? B50 means you are not connected at all to LTE. B50 is what the LTE engineering screen sits at by default when it isn't connected to LTE. Don't ask me why Sprint set it to B50 but you can verify this yourself by checking the ##DEBUG# dialer code at the LTE engineering screen when you are only connected to 3G and you will see B50...*shrug*.

Sorry, didn't see what band I was on at the time, but I took a screenshot cause I was floored by these speeds. I have not done any editing to my bands.

That is B25 LTE for sure. The speeds you posted are possible with B25 LTE. You probably don't have a loaded LTE sector which is why you have great speeds. The B25 LTE carrier can support up to 37 Mbps for a 5x5 LTE carrier so this speed is not out of the range.

It is going to be extremely hard for you to test B41 LTE like I did unless you have the proper information and the patience. It is not easy to test B41 since our stock firmware doesn't really like connecting to B41 LTE. I got a lot of disconnects and reconnects in my B41 LTE testing. For now unless you are a Premier Sponsor at S4GRU.com, I would just not even bother since Sprint made the current firmware to favor B25 LTE over B41 LTE regardless of Band Priority.

You will see the Spark symbol when we get the Spark OTA firmware update in early 2014. The intro Sprint splash screen will get updated to say Sprint Spark as well. I have played with the HTC One Max and saw what the new Sprint Spark splash intro screen looks like and the new 3G/4G icon.

I live in St. Louis and activated all 3 bands. It does become a bit unstable, but I did a speedtest by downtown and landed an unbelievable 47mbs down speed, but crashed during upload test. It was on the 41 band. I verified this through the LTE Engineering menu. But like I said, it seems very unstable.

4G LTE Battery Life Tip

Love 4G LTE speeds but just hate to see your battery drop like a rock? I'm sure i do
Well i have a theoretical solution to this:
Im going to be talking about different data modes so it would be best to read this:
Specifically page 5(but its an interesting article)
http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/110711-what-is-lte/
ExtremeTech said:
The reason why LTE devices right now eat batteries for breakfast is because the network operators are forcing these devices into active dual-mode operation.
For Verizon Wireless, this means that all of their LTE devices connect to both CDMA2000 and LTE simultaneously and stay connected to both. This means that you are eating twice the amount of battery for every minute you are connected than you would if you were connected only to CDMA2000 or LTE. Additionally, when you make calls on Verizon Wireless LTE phones, the CDMA2000 radio sucks down more power because you are talking. Sending and receiving text messages causes pulses of CDMA2000 activity, which cuts your battery life more. Arguably, constantly changing radio states could be worse for battery life than a switch into one mode for a period of time and switching back, so text messages may actually kill the batteries faster.

Basically what Verizon is doing when 4G is on is forcing their phones to be running 1xRTT, CDMA2000(3G) and LTE at the same time.
Now the question is why would anyone do this? the reason why is so that when you leave the range of a 4G tower you are greeted immediately with 3G(no need to turn it on)
So some of you that live in areas where you constantly use 4G are saying "screw 3G i always have 4G" and that brings us to the point of the thread:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer and go to Phone information:
Scroll down to "preferred network type.
It should say something like "CDMA + LTE/EvDO auto." this just means it will switch between 4G and 3G automatically.
GB:
Now look at the bottom and you will see "LTE mode (w/voice)"

Sense 4
Choose LTE, CDMA
ICS:
choose LTE, CDMA
Dont confuse this with VoLTE(voice over 4G) as it isnt
This just means that the 3G connection will not be running along with the 4G connection and should save battery.
Select the one corresponding to your firmware and Congrats, now your phone can only connect to 1x and LTE.
Everything will works as it normally would but if you leave the range of a 4G tower it will not automatically switch to 3G.

My options:
CDMA only
EvDo only
GSM/WCDMA, CDMA, and EvDo (PRL)
CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto
GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA/Lte auto
LTE only
LTE, CDMA
:/
Tried setting it to LTE only (hoping voice was just unmentioned) but it didn't work.

I'm guessing the "LTE, CDMA" mode is a true hand off operation, rather than keeping both on? Or else there'd be no point, right?

Yes I am, I always thought VZW's 3G ran on their CDMA network. I guess because I thought ExDo Rev A was part of the CDMA thing. Mobile technology is too convoluted. Too many bands and such haha.
1x - CDMA - voice/text messaging
3g - EvDO - Data
4G - LTE - Data
That's what Verizon uses. LTE, CDMA should be what we want. I'm testing this out and will report back later!

AWS availability, LTE speedtest

As many of you already know, Note 3 is one of a few Verizon smartphones that has a Category 4 LTE modem, capable of delivering 150Mbps download speeds. Verizon's been rolling out new LTE layer on AWS or Band 4, and in many cities like NYC, LA, SF, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, to name a few users have been seeing speeds just under 100Mbps, but only using Category 3 devices like GS4, iPhone 5s, etc which are hardware limited at 100Mbps.
Since this is a Note 3 forum, it would be great to have this thread for reports on Verizon's Band 4 LTE, and especially Speedtest.net results which should be north of 100Mbps!
Similar thread exists in GS4 forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502716
And a much more in depth one over at HoFo: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ent-and-Verizon-sites-with-Remote-Radio-Units
This article also talked about Verizon's 2x20Mhz AWS LTE: http://gigaom.com/2013/10/14/watch-out-att-verizons-new-lte-network-monster-stirs-in-nyc/
On Galaxy phones it should be easy to access ServiceMode via dial codes, which will allow you to monitor the Band you're connected to, and even force the certain frequency. I don't own Note 3, but afaik Verizon usually tries to block out these codes, although there used to be an app in Play Store that would dial the codes for you (Samsung ServiceMode or Sammy codes)
*#0011# General Debug screen
*#2263# Allows you to force any frequency on your phone
*#27663368378# Main screen
There are a few other codes, please post your findings!
That's pretty neat. Thanks for the info!
I wonder what this'll mean for Verizon customers currently grandfathered into the unlimited 4G LTE data plans and if there's any plans of discontinuing that service.
I'll have to check this out once I head back to the city.

Unlimited users still get to access this LTE channel with capable device like Note 3.
This is what users are seeing on GS4, but remember GS4 is capable of only 100Mbps on the downlink, so that's the limiting factor. Note 3 can push 150Mbps!
I have read conflicting reports, pretty sure its still disabled on our firmware. One guy said he tried in his AWS enabled area and it wasnt recieving it, still same speed as MI9 and others thought they might since they were seeing speeds of like 60 down.
I'm not in one of those areas and lucky to see 30 down on a good day, so I can't tell you definitively either way.

Ok, so you're looking at the first line where it says LTE Band. Band 13 is the original LTE layer in 700Mhz spectrum.
PLMN: 311-480 is the country/network code, unique to Verizon Wireless.
Bandwidth is the amount of spectrum they're using. Band 13 is 10Mhz nationwide, capable of 73.6Mbps peak speeds. Their Band 4 is in many markets 20Mhz capable of 150Mbps peak speeds!
RSRP is "reference signal receive power" -44dBm being amazing, and -140dBm you're about to drop connection.
SNR is "signal to noise ratio" the higher the better. 30dB is perfect.
RSRQ is "reference signal receive quality" -3dBm being amazing and -19dBm terrible.
PA state displays the new envelope tracking (ET) feature only Note 3 has, it saves battery and should improve upload, etc....
You really should be watching the first line and try to spot "BAND 4" and the third line showing you the BW (bandwidth). Should be between 10Mhz and 20Mhz depending on the market. Please state your market when you post screenshots, it will really help me figure out which areas are getting this massive capacity!
Hope this helps!

Ever since HTC Thunderbolt which had a similar ServiceMenu, Verizon got paranoid about giving users too much low level control, and started requesting OEMs to block these codes from the final shipping ROMs. T-Mobile variant for instance has all of the ServiceMode pages enabled. So the ServiceMode.apk is still there, but it isn't listening dialer any more. You can try those apps I've posted above, they should get you to the service mode.
There is also *#27663368378# Which is the actual root of the app. Also, certain ROMs enable this. It's really enabling it in the build.prop. ServiceMode is baked into the TW framework, so ROM must be TW based.

Ah finally! After the reboot, do you have Band 4 ENABLED? Did it stick? Which ROM are you on and what metro area are you in?
Not all areas have Band 4 enabled. NYC, LA, SF, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, but also Lexington, KY, etc... Try testing it in the busiest parts of your city, since Verizon is deploying there first, to alleviate the congestion.
Hi Milan, nice seeing you here, read a lot of your posts over at HoFo and S4GRU.
YES!!! AWS live in Philadelphia!!! I have kept up with the HoFo thread and haven't heard of any sighting in Philly yet.
What I did was first enabled B4 like above and then went into UE setting, settings, protocol, NAS, network control, band selection, and under LTE preference chose B4 to force it. Interesting enough there is no B13 option in there.
I have screenshots of service mode, was speed test, and b13 speed test. Too bad signal on AWS sucks so I can't really use it. I guess this is because Verizon had the lowest number of towers here. My speed test is quite poor but compared to B13 in Philly, otherwise known as the slowest network in Philly other than Verizon CDMA, pretty much anything is improvement.

Hey this is awesome news!!! Congrats! They seem to be running another 10Mhz FDD LTE in the AWS. EARFCN value of 2100 corresponds to B block AWS license they've acquired from SpectrumCo cable companies! So you should be having another 73.6Mbps channel which should alleviate the congestion!
Have you tried testing in a busy areas of Philly during the Off-Peak hours just to see if the capacity is there? Don't forget to put Network Selection back to "Automatic", otherwise you won't be receiving any calls, just LTE Data
Thank you for posting a short guide on how to properly enable B4 on Note 3!
Again how are you guys even getting into the service mode? Both of those apps and none of the codes seem to work what am I doing wrong here?

How to (and why) disable Spark LTE Bands

I couldn't find this info anywhere on xda but I wanted to share this with you all, as the xda community has always helped me and I've rarely had the opportunity to return the favor.
I'm a month into a new G3, and all was well until the last 3 days. About 10 days ago band 41 started showing up with great speeds. I only get about 105-110dBm (1-2 bars) but I was still getting around 20 mbs download speed and it worked great. 2 days ago, my G3 would lock onto band 41 at work and I couldn't get any data. Our wifi is sketchy and I need reliable LTE. After profile & PRL updates were no help, it would bounce from band 41, to 26 to 3G. Back and forth my phone was going band to band trying to lock onto a good signal but kept trying to hold onto the weak band 41 driving me nuts.
So after some research I found a way to disable band 41 & 26 for now until the network becomes more stable. If you are in an area where spark isn't fully baked and have trouble holding onto band 41 or even 26 you can do this. I now have a clean steady stable fast LTE connection at work where I need it the most.
To disable LTE bands:
1. Call or chat with a Sprint rep, ask for your MSL code, its a 6 digit number.
2. Go to you dialer and dial ##3282#, this enters you into a data menu.
3. Tap "LTE", then "edit"
4. Disable any LTE bands causing the issue. I started with 41 but ended up also disabling 26 as it was also spotty and fluctuating.
5. Then hit the back button and the phone will reboot.
You can the re-enable them using the same process at any time. I figure I'll check once a week to see if things are working. If they aren't I'll just disable them again. I would think this would also work on other spark capable devices like the M8, S5, N4, G2 but I don't know for sure.
Thanks, I hope this helps anyone that may be dealing with spotty spark LTE service until spark gets fully implemented.
Goodluck

You can also see it by using ##debug# and going into LTE Engineering option "Band" will show you. (This is likely only on LG software, not sure on CM/AOSP)
@Macguyver. THANK YOU so much for this!
I'm on the fringe of LTE/eHRPD and just by killing band 41, my reception is finally holding LTE. I've have to put my phone on CDMA just to keep data until now.
I still average 15% cell standby meaning searching for signal, but at least it holds and my battery has gotten better using LTE.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the bit of info. I turned off bands 41 and 25 to stay on band 26. Band 41 stayed between -115db and -123db and band 25 was a bit better but band 26 stays between -100db and -112db. Still not great but much better than band 41. On speed test for band 41 i was getting mostly 0's. On band 26 i am getting about 4megabit down and 2 megabit up. Never any 0's for download or upload. It does slow down but never 0's coming in on the throughput.

Increasing data speeds? (T-Mobile)

I found something interesting on reddit:
Go to dialer, put in 277634#*#
Band selection
Select all and press save.
My data went up from about 25mbps to over 50mbps.
Can't guarantee this to work with all carriers/models but you could try? Let me know if you do?

So I lied, went from around 8mbps. I'm guessing it activates all bands? I used different sources on Speedtest.
It did this:

Oh and it does show band 71 unlike the photos I sent before showing the bands.

Which of the bands were unselected before? I don't see how this method improved data speeds, unless very common bands were not enabled(kind of unlikely). Then access to certain band or carrier aggregation with that band would have been disabled. Please use app like Cellmapper to verify which band/tower you are one when doing speedtests.
PS. No T-Mobile variant system dump yet? or captured update?

None were selected at all. Not sure why that is. I'll look into Cellmapper.
I haven't used android exclusively for a few years, so forgive me if I'm still relearning it. I just know that I suddenly had increased speed on download after doing this.

Oh,, if none selected then you were probably camping on 3g aka fake 4g in tmous terms. Then speed boost is obvious.
LG V30 is a Gigabit LTE device, so have best chance getting good speeds now and in the future.
I'm not sure I want to do that in case it's a toggle. After my data came back post update (took a day), I ran some speed tests and hit 143.83 DL and 27.40 UL. Which is kind of a statistical outlier but I'll take it. I've gotten 95 and 98 a couple of times. I'm currently sitting out at the edge of the KC metro area and only get 60 out here but again, I'll take it. At a certain point you just hit speeds where it doesn't really matter anymore.

Nice to see all of those bands. I wonder if those who have other models, like the H933, could give that a try and see what selection they have. Band 66 doesn't seem to show up through the usual engineering menu dialer code and neither did 71.
Couldn't get this code to work on my Tmobile device. I hit Call after I put in the code and it said it was an invalid code. The weird thing is now my speeds are abysmal. I was getting 20+ down earlier, now I'm getting 1.x down. And my uploads are close to 0. Where did you get this code from?
Code worked for me. I turned on all the bands. Speed test was about 10mbs higher than before. Thanks for the info!

Worked for me on my Tmobile V30. You don't need to hit the call button. Are you using the default dialer?

Strange, after a reset it worked for me. Ping has decreased but speeds are still very slow.
Sure enough, tried it with back to back speed tests and my speeds went down after doing it.

You don't hit call at all! If you hit call, the code wasn't proper. You just copy and paste into dialer.
277634#*#
You can also select reset and it won't hurt anything but I selected reset and went back to lower data speeds.
Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk.
Went back in and selected Reset which unchecks all the boxes and returns you to Default and ran a speed test again. So here's how it went:
Before code and checking all bands: 96.03 DL 12.85 UL 59 Ping
Code and checks attempt 1: 76.47 DL 10.04 UL 63 Ping
Attempt 2: 79.41 DL 14.75 UL 67 Ping
Code and reset to previous default: 94.88 DL 26.65 UL 60 Ping
Pressed reset and save, the ones circled are the ones with none selected.
Maybe this is influenced by where you live? Maybe only the most commonly used bands should be ticked on? I still haven't had the chance to use that app.
Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk.
Cellspotter shows I mostly use band 2, 66, and 12. My dBm is lowest with band 66. I thought that was only an AT&T band though? [emoji50]
Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk.
Edit: I'm lying again, turned off 66, band 12 has the lowest dBm.
It reverts to band 66 the most if all boxes are checked in my apartment.
I got on here with the US Cellular version and when I get to the Modem Settings, I don't have any check boxes next to the listed bands. Any thoughts on where I can go to see that? All of the bands show without the option to check off multiple.
This code does not work on the European H930 Model.. Is it just 277634#*# or something more?.
Update: Found the LTE band menu by using the *#54638#*930# code... I didn't have any checkboxes... Everything seems enabled to me... Separate menu is present to enable carrier aggregation around there..

Question 5G support in the USA XQ-CT72

Has anyone been able to get 5G support in the USA with Xperia 1 lV XQ-CT72 ?
I have tried T-Mobile and also AT&T on mine and the best I can do is "LTE+" on T-Mobile
On AT&T it says only LTE, yet I am getting the same DL speeds as I did wit T-Mobile around 84mb

Thanks again I was able to figure it out on my own here In the USA my Xperia now shows 5G with AT&T I’m not sure if I am actually getting 5G speeds though
With a good connection what should my DL speeds be approximately?
Lastly I assume when the US variant starts shipping here in the States it will probably not support Wi-Fi calling either
Hard to tell really, depends on a type of network, congestion, signal quality.........and server speed on the other side.
Its clear to me that with the international version of this phone in the USA you don't get 5g speed
I did a test I ran SpeedTest using the same SIM card. One on my iPhone and got over 150mp transfer, I then put there same SIM card in my Xperia 1 IV device and even though it shows "5G"Service I am getting half the speed approximately 70mp download. So it's still running in LTE mode... Vert frustrating
But that doesn't tell that it's LTE. 5G can be worse then LTE. Unless you can lock on a specific cell on a certain tower and do proper testing which can also give veeeery different results, it's hard to tell what you are actually using. There are some apps that kinda tell you network info but it is not the same as proper testing app with all the details and ability to lock on to a specific cell. Been doing that with Huawei equipment recently and......well, very time consuming process and very frustrating vhen the same phone on the same spot can lock on some frequency but can't on another for the same technology on the same tower. And speed was anything from 50-500 MB, depends whether it was low band or high band and 735347 factors. And repeating the test right after can produce very different results.
Unless you try that 20 times with each phone on the same spot and preferably in hours of lower congestion and then have some consistency in results that xperia is always twice slower it might be just coincidence.

I live in a rural area where there is only one tower. I did the test one after another. First with the iPhone using Speed Test from Ookia and then pulled the SIM card out and put it in the Xperia, using the same app on the Xperia I experienced much slower speeds and I did run the test multiple times.
I am in Australia, before this trick I got a maximum of 200mbs after figuring this out I am getting 300 - 800mb so it seems it's working on my end
have too be careful what actually being displayed for 5G service icon , I have found on the XQ-CT72 it will show 5g icon, but with LTE dicovery app, it shows its only connected to 2 different LTE bands, the download speeds are horrible like 10mbps, with the USA model pixel 6 pro it shows 5g and LTE App shows its connected to 5G NSA71 which is the true "5g" band and download speeds are 75-100 mbps, so I returned my 1 IV and see what happens with the USA model after it been out a while., then maybe I`ll buy that one, until now pixel 6 pro for now.

Are folks checking if 5G is ACTUALLY being broadcast in their areas? Just because we see advertising on TV for 5g or a phone has 5g capability (have to check bands but some versions of this phone do have the 5g bands for the US) or a phone displays 5g in status bar (lol) but in reality is getting 4g (aka LTE). Even all typical LTE bands are not all broadcast in any given area e.g in my area Tmobile has 4 and 2 but nothing else and AT&T has 2 and 17 and nothing else. Too many times I see people endlessly discussing these 4g/5G issues without looking at the actual towers and what they are sending out in their respective areas.

You have to also check what bands are actually being broadcast by the towers in your area of usage. Further the carriers go loose with the way what they call 5g (marketing). Also bands like 66 extended LTE is just seen in a couple of spots in a general large area like 30 x 30 sq miles where I am. At least that is what I have seen.
