Note 3 as action cam - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Hi guys,
I am planning to go on a skiing trip this december. I was looking for an action cam, however they were all disappointing in terms of quality.
I just realized, our note 3 shoots amazing video.
Does anybody know whether is a way to use the Note 3 as an action cam, and mount it without looking like a dork? Also would an Otterbox Defender case provide sufficient protection? I will probably crash. Hard.

I honestly think you're better off using a action cam. First off there's no way for you to get a point of view shot without looking like a total dork. And you're going to risk damaging the $700 device. Video you take with the note 3 will most likely be very shaky since it doesn't have optical video stabilization.

Ya theres probably not going to be a very elegant solution. If your determined to use it, probably should throw a heavy duty case on it and slap it in the chest pocket of your jacket if you have one. That or Mcguyver a 45 degree little mirror on it and ducktape that shiz on your head haha.

Changed the lens to a wide angle though. It worked suprisingly well. Video quality was excelent with the optical VR and great sensor and optics. Auto focus wasn't a problem either.
It looked hideous though. And it was heavy. And it was causing lots of drag.

I am already leaving in december though.
Just a shame the GoPro blacks are so expensive.

I race motocross and I have a gopro as well as the newest Contour roam +2.
Hands down the Contour is so much better. Everyone at the track is switching now.
The reason is (and most gopro users will agree) that it's actually hard to control the gopro or turn off and on while it's mounted. It has a small led that in direct sunlight you can't see, and if you hit record you will always be asking the guy beside you if it's running as you staring him in the face lol. Gopro users goto line is "is it on?" haha. It's not uncommon to have a guy at the starting gate tap me on the shoulder to ask if he's recording.
That said, the Contour uses a massive slider and the whole thing vibrates when it starts recording. It's mint to use without looking at it and the laser levelling is cool too with the spinning lens means you can mount it anyway no need to line it up.
My Bluetooth on the gopro tends to lose connectivity sometimes. Not the case with my Contour. Also read up about the gopro and lockups requiring reboots.
Sorry this isn't a direct answer to your note question, but you will not be disappointed getting a real action cam.
Ps the only place the gopro wins is it does 1080p at 60 fps. On the Contour it does 30 fps at 1080p. The Contour does however support 60 fps in 720p which in my opinion is the best for file sharing anyways. 1080p seems overkill for most applications.

I give my gopro a big thumbs down anyways
It's all just marketing with them. Gopro has been around a very long time and I had an SD one years ago before anyone even heard of them. At that time they were the only company that made anything that small and light. Now the competition is growing so large gopro is like Apple and just relying on the name.
That said, the contour one I mentioned above isn't real cheap either, but there are many cheap options available around the 100 dollar mark just review them and look on YouTube. Search for some contour vs whatever and you will find tonns in whatever price range you like.
It's too bad you left it so late! Else you would be able to purchase some online from China

it depends on the sport and I would be cautious about getting it wet AT ALL but yes I can think of one way to easily use it as an action cam for some 4k loving.
FIRST install the hack that allows you to up the "bit rate" of the video. CAUTION while this hack allows you to remove the 5 minute limit unless you format your card to something like exfat or ntfs or something (people more expert at this will chime in) your going to run into the 4gb limit. at 50MB your probably looking at 4-5 minutes anyway at 100 MB bit rate your at around 2.5 minutes!! so be aware. you will hit the 4gb wall FAST at 4k
at minimum do 50mb and 256kbit audio mod!
now. onwards. BUY a case that includes a holster cover plate.
I would suggest Zero Lemon's Zero Shock case. (yes you can use it without the zero lemon battery its $24) I WOULD suggest buying the zero lemon battery ($60 gets you battery and case) with a 10 AMP battery you could probably go an entire weekend without recharging it no mater how much video you record. (yes its that impressive)
You would use some webbing and build yourself a "chest harness" something with a nice "backing plate" that would press hard against your chest.
Second figure out the appropriate angle. if you put it flat against your chest your probably going to get lots of sky so your probably going to want to angle it down a bit.
remove the "clip" from the holster and secure (screw?) the holster to your custom chest mount.
I would also install a screw top and bottom in the wood so you can stretch a rubber band over the two screws across the phone as a little bit of extra insurance IE install a velcro strap for a more pro and permanent look and function.
at home you would rig and set up your chest strap rig. at the site you would done the chest mount (like a go pro chest mount but more heavy duty since your phone weighs a lot more) keep it all black and you won't look like a "dork" so to speak. and use a black case as well.
at the top of your run you would hit "go" on the video snap it into the chest mount holster case slap your velcro security strap in place and GO.
this is a VERY good idea consider how nice the 4k video is!
Here are some pics and vid describing how I might do it. if I have time I may just build a rig.
Here is the zero lemon case for my note II (similar for the Note III) you can of course get all black I HATE black so I had to get pink purple since that is the only other color they make its not bad. since you want invisible get all black.
Here is the holster it snaps into
Here it is snapped into the holster plate
The other side mounted
I would remove the clip and use a couple washer and a screw to secure it to your chest plate (be sure not to BEND IT as you screw it in use spacers as needed if you distort the holster it might not hold the phone as firmly. also be sure to install a beefy velcro security strap as backup.
Mount it roughly their and your good to go. Be sure to set ANGLE proper or your gonna get a lot of sky shots you want level with horizon or even slightly "down" so when you "lean back" your still getting good footage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaJ46EFdKo8
If you want a HEAD mounted action cam I would go with the SONY HDR series (the 10 is cheaper but lacks wifi connectivity which is really nice since you can use your phone as a viewfinder for the cam in real time!!)
I stalked ebay and scored mine for $129. there is another vendor who makes a 3D printer "strap mount" for the cam you DEFINITELY want this otherwise you have to stick the cam in its water proof case to "mount" it to anything.
I really like the video and fantastic audio from the sony.
NOW the contour are also VERY nice units and they have the advantage (the newer ones) of being waterproof WITHOUT an additional case.
they are also more compact than a go pro !! the go pro is smaller but its a landscape format camera. while the contour and sony units are "pistol style"
for chest mounting go pro is king since its landscape (like your phone) but for HEAD mounting unless you are mounting on top of your helmet the contour and sony units are much better.

FYI - Contour went out of business in August. There's a potential buyer, but last I saw it was not a done deal.

Damn, that's too bad
Contours are definitely better than GoPro for head mounting.

[Q] Screen digitizer below standards? No handwriting?

Can anyone enlighten me on the performance of the screen digitizer.
I have been testing several note taking applications on my TFP. Although I have lousy handwriting the TFP makes it even worse. At first I blamed myself and the rather clumsy big tipped stylus and to improve the results I downloaded Touchscreen Tuner. A nice application but minimal improvement.
Then I also noticed it is impossible to draw accurate on the TFP.
A straight horizontal or vertical line is possible but when you try to draw a straight diagonal line it becomes a wave line. Now I really got worried. Maybe my drinking habits had given me this unsteady hand. So I got out a ruler and drew a diagonal line along it. I was relieved that I could continue drinking but what a shock to see the result. Again the diagonal line turned out as a wave line. (See the screen shot)
It turns out the grid of the digitizer is much too widely spaced. I estimate the distance between grid points at about 5 millimeters. And apparently the algorithm to interpolate between the grid points is so insufficient that a contact on the digitizer between two grid points is regarded as a contact with the nearest grid point. The algorithm doesn’t calculate a point in between.
Another way to see this is when you pick up an icon on the home screen and slowly drag it diagonally across the screen. It will not follow your finger or stylus smoothly but it will sway from left to right and stay behind a bit and then catch up again.
A big plus for the TFP for me was the possibility to accurately draw and take notes while working in the field.
As it is advertized and showed by Asus in promotional videos.
That is also what the Notes application was designed for.
Again I am afraid that Asus has (next to GPS, Wifi/BT issues, performance and screen faults) promised us to much goodies to be true.
Does anyone have a solution to this shortcoming or maybe can test if they can reproduce my findings. Maybe it is a malfunction in my TFP.
Please let me know your solutions or findings.
By the way. I also tested a HTC Sensation, a HTC HD and an Ipad 2. On these devices it is perfectly possible to draw a perfectly straight diagonal line.
Seems the behavior is the same on my TFP, except that I tried drawing the diagonal with my finger and it came out a lot straighter than your screenshot. Not nearly as straight as horizontal and vertical lines though, but less waves that what you're showing.
I used a Belkin stylus.
To draw the line I used the edge of a magazin.
I tried to apply equal presure and speed while drawing.
The issue is best seen in a diagonal line under 45 degrees.
There is an app on the market to tune the touchscreen for this and Galaxy Tab, it helps a ton. Touchscreen Tune I think its called.
It is $5 though but with the app, good freewriting application and a decent pen, handwriting is a lot easier.

It largely depends on the speed you draw it. If you go really fast its pretty straight. Go really slow and its wavy as hell
Maybe I am drunk....
The finer the stylus the wavier the line. Used my finger, no waves.
Use the application mentioned above....
I had a jot pro with a similar problem, except my writing varied greatly based on pressure. If I pressed down hard enough it would write like you would expect, but otherwise it did some crazy stuff. Might just be that particular stylus though

I've got the same experience with the Wacom Bamboo Stylus.
I've had no trouble writing in supernote or 7notes (the keyboard part), ditto for Sketchbook Pro except I naturally draw crappy. My handwriting with the Jot is fine though.

I am not asking if people have proper handwriting.
I think the grid spacing is to wide.
But maybe it's my Prime.
Can you post a screenshot of a perfect diagonal line made in Supernote.
This is a well known and well documented issue. It is present on loads of devices. There have been a few threads about this already.
Here is an image from a test that was done quite some time ago.

You are wrong on this. Touchscreen definitely has different chip in TF201 (Atmel)!
Also isn't your handwriting done while zoomed in?
So obviously you don't have a TF201.
And obviously the hardware (and also the screen) is totally different.
But if you are willing to help us out and explain to us what we are doing wrong we would be gratefull.
If not then i think you should get back to the TF101 forum.
It is of no use posting an image of what you can do on your TF101.
I can post multiple pictures of the complicated things I can do with pen and papier.
;-)
But that is not the reason why we bought a TF201.
I hope there is someone out there that can help.

What you are doing wrong is you're not adapting. You're trying to use it like pen and paper. When the tf101 first came out, there were many whiners who came to FDA whining that the tf doesn't feel like a laptop.
Imagine people trying to use pen and paper like chisel and hammer on stones. Or imagine people trying to use the desktop like a typewriter.
The jot on tf doesn't feel like pen on paper. Why? Because its not pen on paper. Adapt or move on. Imagine flying an airplane like driving a car. Complain about that.
Added by edit.
The point I was trying to make is this. Yeah, I zoom in when I write. So? It gives me the freedom to draw out more details than I can with pen on paper. I can also change colors at will. Don't have to carry around all the notebooks and stuff. It took me may be 2 note taking sessions to get use to it. I don't even think about it anymore. And I can just print out the pdf of my notes whenever I want.
Stop trying to use this like pen and paper. Zoom in, do whatever you need to to adapt. Our ancestors adapted from chisel and hammer to pen and paper. And now you're trying to use a stylus on tablet like pen and paper? Why not complain that a car doesn't ride like a horse? Or a train doesn't ride like a horse pulled ferry?
Do what you need to to adapt. If you can't adapt, move on. No need to get stressed out by it.

Your notes look good, would you mind giving some tips or maybe starting another thread with some tips on how to take notes using a stylus and what not. For example, are you writing in portrait mode or landscape? It looks like portrait but I don't know of that's due to formatting. Any tips would be appreciated. I'd like to be able to use mine for notes on occasion even though my livescribe pen handles notes just fine.

[FIX] Sick of your 3D pictures having horrible vertical offset? Here's how to fix it.

One thing that has always pissed me off was the HORRIBLE vertical offset on my 3D pictures and videos taken. I knew it wasn't the screen, as 3D movies, downloaded clips, youtube clips, and pics downloaded look WONDERFUL.
For a while I thought it was a software issue, as I know the phone does do some post processing. HTC does offer the option to change the 3D offset for the HORIZONTAL alignment, but not the vertical. Reason? It shouldn't be there to begin with!
I've searched the web high and low for a solution, but other than post image processing I never found anybody who fixed it, and shared how they did it. I've had my phone since release so there's no way I can exchange it.
So. What's the problem? Poor quality control. With my phone (and I suspect many others) the two cameras were not aligned properly (if at all).
WARNING: If you are not a comfortable taking things apart and putting them back together... STOP and don't even attempt it. It's not hard to do, but these phones are VERY FRAGILE. Obvious disclaimer is I'm not responsible for your damaged phone. I'm not responsible for ruining your phone. I'm not responsible for anything. I am providing information. Whether you want to act on it is up to you!
What you'll need:
Evo 3D Phone (duh)
#00 or #000 phillips driver
T5 Torx Driver
Tweezers (something to carefully pry up the ribbon cable clamps and remove the cables)
Stereo Photo Maker (or other 3D image viewer)
Time and Patience
First and foremost take a 3D picture of a photo frame or something square on a blank wall. You just need some type of horizontal reference to compare the two images. You'll need to take the same photo many times so try and pick a spot easy to remember so the photos are close to the same. Try to stand atleast 6ft way so that any offset is more easily seen. Don't take a pic close up as it will be less noticeable for what we're doing.
Download the pic to your computer, and open Stereo Photo Maker. Note this program does not install, it is a self executable. Open the last 3D image you just took.
The standard view shows two images next to each other. For me mine was so off, that I could easily see the left image was way too high. Take a sheet of paper or ruler and compare, as you'll need to know which camera is high, and which is low.

Now press this button to over lap the images. Use your keyboard's arrow keys to manually align the images to see how bad the offset it. One arrow press should be a 4 pixel jump.
As you can see, mine were WWWAAAAYYY off. 72 pixels of vertical mis-alignment.
Now the fun part. Take your phone apart! I'm not going to bother telling you how. There's plenty of youtube videos on line that do a better job than I could have. Find a video that explains how to change the LCD. Thankfully we don't have to mess with removing the digitizer or LCD so don't go that far! That's not a fun job. I also recommend pulling the vibrator motor out of the holder instead of messing with the plug. That plug is a real PITA and very fragile. The motor is wrapped in rubber and is just a press fit into the phone.
When you get to the point where you have the back separated and the main board exposed, go ahead and un-do all the ribbon cables. I left the RF cable and two ribbon cables on the back in-tact. If this is your first time taking a phone apart, don't. Take them off. They are very fragile, and even a stress crack will wreak havoc on your phone and cause something to not work.
Mainboard with ribbon cables and vibrator motor removed
Carefully remove the heat insulation/EMF shield from the back. Be sure to hold the metal covers over the ICs. The adhesive is quite strong so just go slowly. Some recommend heat to aid in this but I advise against it. Very easy to melt something or over do it and it's not needed. You just need to go slowly.
Peel back the insulation
Now once you have it peeled back (don't remove it completely) turn the main board over and remove the two phillips screws holding the cameras assembly on.
The issue is the cameras not looking in the same direction. In my case the left was looking up and the right facing down. What I did to remedy the situation is carefully hold the two camera bodies and twist them slightly so they are both looking straight ahead. You can't go completely off of the cameras appearing to be in alignment as I'm sure there's some adjustment done within the aluminum case. The only thing you can do is trial and error. For me it took 6 times. May take you one, may take 10 or more. The key is don't over do it and try to get it right all at once. Take your time and work slowly.
Here you can see the camera module. They are connected together by an aluminum bar. This bar is what we'll be twisting to re-align the cameras.
Twist the cameras in the direction needed
It's hard to describe how much force it took to twist it. It's cast aluminum so it did take a fair amount of force but not much. I'd equate it to the amount of force necessary to break a wodden #2 pencil. Maybe a bit more. Using both hands, pinch the two cameras one in each hand, and twist. You won't be able to feel the metal moving, and will barely be noticeable by eye. Just twist it a while, put it back together, snap the pic again and compare using the Stereo Photo Maker app.
If you can't get it perfect don't worry about it. 5 pixels or less will be barely noticable. I got mine within 3 pixels and I'm leaving it.
You can see my progression. I started with 72, then got to 48, then 28, then 20, then 16, then finally 0.
Finally close to 0 pixels offset!
When done, it should look very close to a regular ol' image with no offset.
Congrats!!! Now your phone will take much better 3D pics. Most noticeable was increased video performance. Not only that, but the eye-strain for decently taken 3D images is virtually gone. Vertical offset will cause eye strain much more than a slight horizontal offset which can be fixed within the stock gallery app. The pics didn't look all that bad unless I took one very close up but videos were horrible. I can say now they are MUCH better. Still not as good as a GoPro 3D setup but its better none-the-less.
All in all it took about 45 minutes to get it right. Wasn't that difficult to do.
Please let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

Your way is great to get consistent pictures. Thanks for the tip!
This is definitely not for the faint of heart, there's got to be an app or software solution for this... The app Tobidale 3D has some 3d tweaking but not sure if it's vertical...
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
Great post! I checked my alignment and I'm only 2 down arrow clicks away from perfect and this phone is only a week old so its not worth it for me to take it apart. Thanks for the info.
Believe me I've searched. There are PC apps (such as the one I used in the tutorial) that can fix it, but it means cropping the photo. Also no way to fix videos taken with the phone.
It really isn't that hard. The camera body is sturdy as hell, you're not going to break it. Just becareful of the circuit board hanging off.
I'm sure it wasn't a very common problem, but I did find enough people complaining about it online to know that it wasn't just mine that came off the assembly line this way. Having said that, being that this and the LG is the only 3D phones out there, I doubt there's any demand for an android app to fix it. I'm sure it could be tweaked somewhere in the camera app but that's just a band aid. The problem is hardware.
I'd be interested to know how many of you all have issues with taking 3D pictures. It's very easy to tell with the stereo photo maker app. I had completely given up on taking 3D pics and videos, as they just turned out like crap. They look so much better now. I was even having an issue sometimes with the lighting/contrast being different between the two pics. Maybe its just my imagination but I swear they're more even now. Maybe the offset caused one camera's "aperture" to go darker than the other. I don't know.
Oh yeah, if this helped please click "Thanks" on my post! 'Preciate it!

Stand about 6ft away from a wall with a picture on it and take another pic. There shouldn't be any horizontal offset. I forgot to put that in my original post (it's edited now). Taking close up pictures with no real 3D definition (like taking a pic on a wall) can confuse it. The phone's post image processing is supposed to adjust the horizontal offset but it does get confused sometimes.
My screenshots may be a little different since I'm running Ice Cream Sandwich, but it is in the other HTC 2.X builds as well.
Open the stock gallery app, and view one of your 3D pics.
Hit the Menu button on your phone.
Select Edit
Adjust 3D Alignment
Say Hello to Charlie! Use the buttons on the left and right so that the main focal point of the picture has no offset (in my case, Charlie). I just kinda eyeball it, adjust it until it doesn't make my eyes hurt lol.
Tried this myself! It's pretty hard to get right as remounting the camera module onto the chassis causes its own stresses and can twist the cameras out of alignment in unpredictable ways. Worth playing around with...

Both came from EVO3Ds. Wondering if the one on the left is a twin 5 megapixel module. Anyone?

G5 quality control issues are real?

Where ever i read three are several people going through all sorts of issues with G5. Iam currently waiting for mine but all these QC issues are really starting to make me worried.
Now i am not sure wether to go ahead or cancel my pre order.
Mine is flawless. Looks perfect, no headphone issues, wifi calling works. I guess I haven't looked at screen bleed but don't really care about that. Haven't noticed any screen bloom.

Anyone else has anything to chip in ?
I'm on the way to pick mine up so I will tell you how my unit looks . I have said that if there is any problem with the look of mine that it's going to go back
No flaws with mine. Haven't look for light bleed though. Don't care about it.

True, I dont see people complaining about iphone quality that much.
But all things aside, I am hoping that UK dont get that many defective units since we have stricter QC measure in place.
Like most things, people dont bother to write unless they have a complaint. So im sure for every complaint you hear there are a hundred happy people. I have had mine since release day and the only thing i am dissapointed in is the volume buttons being on the side(which i all ready knew).

Glad to hear u are happy with your G5.
As for the volume control I am glad that they decided to put it on the side, since its easier for me to skip tracks easily while phone is in my pocket but with my G3 i have to really search for it and most of the times i would just hit the power button or camera lens
Camera lens scratched already.
I've had the phone since April 1st and i've been very happy with, however i just noticed that my Camera's glass cover in the back is already scratched. I have a case on the phone and I've been very careful with the phone. I'm very disappointed and annoyed that this got scratched up so easily! has anyone else noticed this? just seems like a very cheap material in the back. Is there any protector i can buy or will it distort the image?

That sucks. I'm pretty certain I saw a case on Amazon that covers the camera as well. Yes, it must distort the photo a LITTLE but hopefully not much. Maybe it was the Lifeproof case?

Looks like you dont have a case on your phone, and since G5 has a camera bump it is bound to get scratched when left on a hard surface.

Keep your order. It'll be worth it for you trust me. Got mine from ee today. Absolutely amazing phone and in perfect condition with amazing build quality.
I've been very happy with the build quality of mine (had it since Wednesday), moving from a Nexus 5X the quality is in such a higher league in my opinion. So I am very happy. If build quality is your only concern I wouldn't worry, like others have said for every one complaint there will of been many more who have been fine! The phone (at least in the UK anyway) comes with a 2 year warranty (one year for the battery) so that has to go some way in showing that LG believe tha5 the build quality of the phone will last at least that amount of time. I've only got one problem so far which is that the camera, on both the normal and wide angle (although more noticeable on the wide angle) seems to distort massively, almost as though you are shooting through a plastic protective cover. Although I've picked at the camera it doesn't appear one was on it out of the box and I don't want to try too much harder in case it isn't and it is just a terrible software bug that it causing it! The camera in the 5X has been amazing in low light and this feels a bit of a deal breaker for me personally (the camera is the main feature even above battery). Has anyone else had to remove some a plastic cover from the camera after taking it out the box?

M8 i would just take it back and replace it, no point in taking a chance.
My G5 is flawless and looks amazing.
Got mine 4-1-16 and have had zero issues. No light bleed no calling or headphone jax issues no gaps and some say that the side ring or whatever around the phone is like sharp or something mine is not. Some people are saying the battery life sucks but mine is great i get 5 to 5.5 hours screen on time. Also if the screen is off over 8 hours like if i dont charge at night i get maybe 5 to 8% drop at most.
My suggestion is when you get your phone if you see anything wrong like sharp edges gaps light bleed go and exchange for a new one. I think I heard Lg has multiple plants manufacturing the phone and one of them must be effing up big time. I got mine at best buy so I dunno if that makes a difference
I've heard more complaints with the build quality of this phone than with any other in recent memory.
Yes, some may be nitpicky, but for a damn near $700 device, we're allowed to be picky.
I'm not saying it's a bad device, I'm just going by what I've been researching/seen instore. It sounds like it performs like a Champ but you may have to go through a few to get a solid built one.

Anyone recommend an armband for S20 Ultra?

So as we're in lockdown and allowed 1 daily exercise (in the UK) and I now have this 'massive' phone has anyone purchased an armband for the Ultra? I want to start going out for runs, to keep my fitness up a bit, so I don't turn in to big slob!
The ones I've looked on Amazon atm all seem to have poor reviews, mainly due to being too small for the phone.
Can anyone recommend??

Lol!! Hope not!
I originally purchased this for my S8+, but it does have enough room for my S20 Ultra with a Ringke Fusion case on (although it's a little snug). So depending on your case size, it may vary, but can confirm it works!

Thanks for the share, I'll have a look to see if Amazon UK have it.
Wish I could find one that has a clear window to interact with the phone without taking it out. The one I have that does kind of work like this, you have to hang around your neck - but I mostly used this in the water park or beach. I'm guessing jogging with that jiggling around would drive one crazy.

Came here to ask exactly the same thing
I found this one but I am not entirely convinced, a few reports of the thing falling off the armband, although most are good reviews.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072C3SCW6
I found a waistband thing as well and am wondering if this would just be better all round than trying to hang it on my arm, zero chance of it falling off and its easy to get it in and out of it as well. That waistband might not be the best one so I am checking out others at the moment.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sport2People-Running-Belt-USA-Patented/dp/B07D2LGY6S
Other than that the quad lock 'run kit' looks ok but its so expensive I would be scared to go near it in case I dont like it and am stuck with a useless £45 armband. One of the reviews states "because it hangs away from your arm it tends to dangle when you run". I would probably also find this very annoying.
I am leaning towards a waistband type at the moment, I can't see any downsides to it while there are so many potential downsides to anything that goes on your arm, ESPECIALLY with a phone this big.

Thanks for this info, you really have done a lot of ground work!
I think I'm with you on the waistband, it looks the best value and probably comfiest to carry our big phones! Spending £45 is a lot a money IMO, not taking away the quality of it as my boss swears by Quad Lock and I think if you have the case, the car Dock its probably worth it.
Think I may try the waistband.

Yeah the quad lock thing seems quite good if you want a whole system that can work in car/bike etc as well. I was just picking holes in their 30 day money back guarantee as I was thinking about risking it if it was risk free like they claim.... "If you purchase a Quad Lock® product from us and don't like it, you have 30 days to arrange for a return and refund. No questions asked." Except then you go to "learn more" and you get "To be eligible for a return, your item/s must be unused, in the original packaging". So you can't actually see if "you like it" because it has to be unused and in original packaging still. Seems like false advertising to me, giving the impression its all risk free and no questions asked when it clearly isn't.
The only thing that might be a problem with a waistband is if it jumps up and down when you run so I think it cant be a bumbag type that hangs down, it literally needs to be like a belt and the phone goes in the belt so there is nothing to move around when you run. The one I linked is exactly that type but I am not sure an s20 ultra would fit and some of the reviews point to the quality potentially not being very good so I am searching for others that might be better quality but the same sort of design.
Looked at a few and think I am going to go with this one

Hmm that does seem like false advertising! How on earth can it be a no quibble 30 day replacement?
I've gone and ordered the original one you sent the link for and it arrives Thursday, so I'll let you know how it is, but there's a few others that look very similar and from what I saw most reviews have the odd 1 or 2 that say the same. At least with Amazon they are pretty good with refunds, I've never had an issue with an item that's been faulty 12 months later and got a refund.
Like you say its whether the S20 Ultra fits but I think that'll be the same for most as they all seem to accommodate up to 6.5" phone's.
Running belt has arrived @ewokuk I haven't used it yet but I've tried it on with my phone and it fits with the case (plastic clear one) albeit a little bit fiddly, will do the job tho! Thanks for sharing!!

I got the Gorwrich one and that seems fine. phone fits in it but its quite a snug fit, only just fits and thats with no case (fine by me as i dont use a case). I wouldnt go with the gorwrich one if anyone uses a case as it might not quite fit. The belt seems decent quality and fits quite nicely.

Nice! This is a snug fit tbh with this one and I was worried the zip may scratch the phone as it's pretty snug getting it into that part, so will leave my case on the phone.
At least now I can go for a run without my jacket, which with the weather how it is will be a bit more comfortable! :good:

Question Camera rattle/moving by itself

Hello i hope you are well, this is my first post after a long long time i lost my xda and email acc so im writing from my new profile.
I recently got the S23U 512GB the green color something like a month after the release and everything was superb until recently i noticed the camera rattle and by camera rattle i don't mean when you shake it like in some cases i saw on YT and read on google, i read almost everything i could find about previous models and understood the concept of the "camera rattle".
My case i think is a bit different and what bothers me is that i'm the only one that uses-using the phone the phone didn't fall no drop whatsoever so my issue is that the camera moves like if you put a small object (coin, small rock) in a tin can and move it (not shake it) in the same maner i feel something in the phone moving for example phone is in portrait i tilt it to landscape i hear and feel it move and make a "tick" also when the phone is on the table i pick it up and tilt it to my ear to answer a call i hear and feel it the same way and its driving me nuts.
The cameras work fine and when x10 is active the noise-click is harder to notice but is there but i have no issue with them, do you have any idea about this dont know what to do as in my country i don't have samsung retails and don't know what to do...
Ignore it or have it serviced. Not much else you can do...

By service what do you mean? Replace the cameras?
Yes. I would ignore it. Close the cam app when not in use. The cam normally should not be active when using the phone. wtf?
Try in safe mode to try and rule out a rogue 3rd party app.
Try clearing the system cache and cam data.
Try a factory reset. You can try reflashing it but doubt this will resolve it. Contact Samsung.
The micro motors used for optical image stabilization normally make slight sounds.
Never been aware of them on my Androids though.
The lens is supposed to move - that is how it is able to still take very clear focused photos while the user is unable to hold it very still or if the person using the camera is in a moving car on a bumpy road, etc.
I just listened while I shook my phone (S23 Ultra 512GB) a little bit - and I do hear a little 'rattle'. I have never noticed that before.
I am guessing but I would think that all the extra attention given to the camera lately (as it was considerably improved in a lot of ways) that they also updated the ability for the lens to be more sensisitve to movement, and that noise is probably the lens banging against the sides of it's lieelt enclosure. I am surprised however that if that is the case, they did not take this into consideracion and place a softer barrier around the lens so that when it bangs around you would not hear any noise - maybe they missed that in the latest go-around with their overall design changes - ?
I treat my phone like a piece of jewelry almost, only put it into a pocket that is empty, etc. - and so in my case I do not think there would be any issue as it is so very expensive I treat mine with kid gloves. I just got this phone to replace a Note 10+ 5G 512MB that had just started to fail - which I was surprised to note that I had it for 5 years - but got a great trade-in deal for it as it still looked like new.
Now that this has been brought to my attention I will also never really want to shake it at all and might sometimes worry about that... sheesh! (ugh!)
Thoughts - is this the cause of the slight 'rattle' noise? The best way is to walk inito a store where they have doisplay samnples - and just shake one.... If i remember I'll do that one of these days and report back here -

Um... it hasn't been 4 years yet for the N10+; got mine a month after they became available (N975U), it will be 4yo in October.
Shaking the phone won't damage the OIS but a high G impact might. ALWAYS use a good case like the Zizo Bolt to protect these heavy corner hitting, face planting happy phones from falls.
I tested 2 in store and none had this but neither had mine before. As for case i have the UAG plasma case paid 45$ and i think its tough enough but my cameras are fine but sounds crazy the rattle.
Need to mention no need to shake the phone just by moving it left to right or 90° it clicks-rattles
When not using the phone the camera lens will be lose. When I shake my s23 ultra I can hear lose parts from 100x camera lens and this is normal to hear when your not using the camera at all. But once I activate camera app and use x10 the rattle noise goes away.
You are hearing this noise because lens that moves forward and backwards between chip layer and mirror layer is light weight and when camera app is off or not on x10 then you will hear rattle noise from bottom camera lens. By just placing the phone to your ear or shaking it.
So this is not an defect and has been there since s20.

Lol, that's disconcerting. You'd think it have a "parked" position. Nevertheless it's likely normal.
On all my Canon lens with OIS the only time, if ever, you hear them would be when active. On my N10+'s I have never heard a peep from the OIS no matter what I do. Anymore when Samsung makes "improvements" I cringe. It didn't use to be like this...
Hey Sammy how about you design a flagship with the sub chassis layout like the S22U with the spen on the RIGHT side, expandable storage and efficiency that exceeds the N10+'s per mAh. Instead of jamming in heavier, larger, higher capacity batteries that get less SOT than the N10+ (1N975U1).
Can you do that? Or you just going to keep making lame excuses for your dropped balls?

Reason why you didn't hear it on n10+ it is because that phone did not have a 100x zoom lens so which is square one.

It has OIS lense though. Really the cams on the N10+ are more than adequate. Samsung's increasing use of AI image processing is unwanted by many. The airbrushed plastic fb girls love it. Fking toon world. Like I said about Samsung's "improvements" nowadays. They read like a cheat sheet...

If you live in a country where claiming warranty is as easy as getting meal, i suggest to just get a replacement.
I always know that any smartphones that have OIS will have tiny rattle sound when shaked, but not to the point you can hear it, unless you really shake it close to your ear and you really trying hard to listen it,
i just shake my P7P and S23U, and if any, my Pixel "rattle" more. And by "more" , it still hardly noticeable.
So, if it really that noticeable, i suggest return it and get a new one.
Just walk into a store that has the model on display and shake it. If it's the same sound you have no issue.
I can confirm mine has rattle sound. I think it's normal and appear when I really shake the phone. Not when I rotate from portrait to lanscape
