[Q] ZTE Valet Root Possible? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently bought the straight Talk ZTE Valet, and have been searching for a root for this device if anyone knows of any or is interested on trying to develop a root exploit. I'm willing to dump any and all files, as well as try any and all rooting methods. If there is already a root im sorry for making a duplicate post.

I'm also looking for a root process that might work on the ZTE Valet now available on Tracfone. Help please!

Any luck?
I am also looking for a root solution for this phone. Either of you had any luck?
I have tried many methods that have worked on other devices, but no luck yet.

I'm also interested, mainly to move more apps, data. The phone does move some apps to a micro SD but not all.

have you guys tried superone click? i have to ask is it gingerbread or what os android version is it?

It is JB 4.1. I haven't tried Superone but will check it out. My root experience has been limited with a Hisense tablet and methods specific to that.

The ZTE Valet Z665 has JB (4.1.1).
So far, I've tried Bin4ry (v32), framaroot (1.6.1), and poot (current version). None worked. In looking at superoneclick, I might not be understanding things very well but it appears to require a CWM image which does not (yet) exist - is that right?
What other methods appear to be worth a try and what have people tried on the ZTE Valet? Anyone aware of a source for the stock ROM? Are there other phones sufficiently similar where the CWM recovery would function on the Valet?
BTW, I just picked up my ZTE Valet at Fred Meyer where it was on sale for $49.99 (Tracfone, no contract). It's a great buy for that price. The sale is over but if interested, keep an eye out for the ads.
Like others, thanks for any ideas.

OK - tried superoneclick and z4root. These in addition to Bin4ry, framaroot, and poot didn't work. I'm a novice at this and am nervous trying some of these options that seem to lack proper pedigree and openness. Also, since I don't have a backup, a more invasive technique also worries me. I'm hoping one of you brave souls will try something out and hopefully give some of us some specifics on what you did to get this phone rooted. It would also be helpful to know what you did actually try (details) that didn't work. Thanks.
Update: Also just tried the adb method which didn't work for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224774[/adb root guide].
Although I took care in trying each of the methods mentioned above and repeated them, I could have screwed up. So ... maybe someone else can report their results just to be sure. I would not re-try z4root but the others don't seem too harmful and my phone still works.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224774

My ZTE turned out to be defective. Screen become unresponsive even after going to recovery, trying to wipe caches/reformatting and even finally attemting to restore to factory state. K-mart wouldn't accept it for an exchange since I bought it out of state. TracFone says they will'll replace it after I ship it to them on their dime. Up until this I liked the phone, except for sound clarity outgoing seemed poorer than mt LG290c from one test from a noisy place.

New phone received and checks out OK enuf to keep. WiFi OK at home but only fair with weak source. Doing this on my Hisense Sero 7 Pro which does better with less than strongest wifi. Screen slightly less crisp at lower brightness than original when it worked. Got 9x more min, text, MB than expected when transferred from old phone so definitely keeping.

[Q] Impression i7 Tablet

I was recently shopping for a knock-around tablet and came across leaderinternationalinc dot com this little guy at Kmart. Yep, I said Kmart. When I asked the price and they told me $129, I said SOLD!.
So far it's been average in performance and had to do some trickery to get some apps installed (Android/Amazon Market, Pandora, Google Talk, etc.) and am still having some difficulty installing other apps. It seems as if they really want you to use their market and apps, some of which are okay, I guess. I got Netflix installed, but the audio/video isn't in sync and everything is a hue of blue. Might be a Flash Player issue - also which I can't seem to update.
Anyway, the bad news is I can't find a way to get in to bootloader or able to root this tab with oneclick. Hopefully they didn't lock this thing down to hard.
Additionally, since the screen is resistive, using a stylus makes it a bit easier to navigate. Worth the money so far!
I'm praying the brilliant dev brains here at XDA will purchase this one and create a simple root/rom that allows me to take this thing to the next level!
Anybody out there?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Sorry... Still a bit of a noob in forums. Where exactly was this moved to? Search provided no results. On a side note, did you buy one of these yet? ;—)

We're heeerreeee basit....
Were you able to get the standard Market installed on it? I was able to get it along with Pandora, Google Voice and a couple others (Netflix not working well) with a little trickery. Still can't get Google Talk and a few other things like an updated Flash.
If I can get a plain vanilla Froyo on this I would give this cheap little tab a solid B.
#bonus
I know this doesn't have anything to do with my original [Q], but I thought I would share anyway...
I contacted Impression about another AC adapter... 1 isn't enough...
After I registered my device, they shipped me another for free!
Any devs out there for this one?
just return it and get another one, a tablet thats $129 is probably not going to be great at that price.. other than the time hp touchpads were $99
Yeah, it's not the snappiest device I've owned, but makes a great desk-side companion. Mainly use it for Pandora, Weather, IM and a few other things...I'm generally still happy with it although I know it won't replace my primary device. Having the (free) second AC adapter is nice so I don't have to carry that back and forth. 2 hours of streaming music kills the battery dead.
Stay plugged in with this one.
Still hoping, praying that a dev picks one of these up...

You can install the Android Market without any funny business. Just download the apk and install. Still think this device can perform much better if it just had vanilla froyo... Hope someone cracks it.

I used super1click, the newest version. It didnt work the first few times, i ended up doing shell root first, then was able to achieve root as normal. It did seem to take a while.
Edit: I just rooted a 2nd i7.... had the same trouble with it just hanging during root. When it hangs, quickly unplug the usb the replug it in. Once it detects usb debugging again it will root properly and pass the verification at the end.
Hope that helps

Just attempted rooting it myself with Superoneclick.
Did shell root first and that went fine. Attempted normal root right after and it hung right at the end when it said the device was rooted and would restart. Unplugged and replugged the usb quickly and then it rebooted.
My i7 was definitely not rooted when it rebooted. Not sure what went wrong. Attempted it numerous times with the same result sadly. Did it hang right at the end for you or at a different point during the root?

When it hangs at the end it never worked for me. Id suggest trying the different methods to root instead of auto....i just pretty much tried everything until i goot root to stick...if it hangs during root steps thats when to unplug and replug.

[Q] Worldpay Mobile - Will not work with rooted device is there a work around?

HI,
I want to be able to take mobile chip and pin payments. World pay (and a few others) have a solution for this however they do not work with rooted phones.
I have found this thread which is smiler and tried what they mentioned however it does not work.
You can download the app from here and have a play https://mobile.worldpay.com/app/
Does anyone have a work around for this?
Thanks
Mathew
Is there something I can do with my phone to allow this to work?
Has anyone be able to get the Worldpay app working on a Rooted phone?

Think I'm going to have to unroot my old DHD for Worldpay to work as I've just sold iphone4 (although was was jailbroken so would have been ruined going back to stock) and Nexus 4 is on its way so this will be wifes phone (which she will basically hardly ever use. Shame there isn't a work around, now I need to find out how to unroot
Unroot via SU app.

What a great idea!!! I had never thought of this so thanks for pointing it out.
Unfortunalty this did not work so I guess the application does not look at the root or it could be looking at a couple of things. Does anyone have a different idea?
Get root checker, maybe you're not rooted at all.

I'm in the same boat as you. It doesn't seem like ANY website has any information on it yet... Maybe the phone is too new? Or, since it's a small, prepaid company (Literally only in about 5 states right now) the phone just isn't out there yet for any devs to play around with it. I'm trying to see if I can find a way to do it on my own, I've rooted a bunch of phones in the past (Mainly only HTC though, this is my first ever Samsung phone) and I'm really only good at following root instructions, not on figuring out how to actually root a device. So I'm with you there, hopefully there will be a way to root the Galaxy Amp someday. I love the phone, but I really want App2SD as the only issue I really have with the phone is the lack of internal app storage.
I've thought about trying other Samsung Galaxy devices rooting methods, but I am just skeptical if it'll brick the phone or not if I try rooting with a method designed for another phone. But then again, the if the phones are similar, I don't see why anything could go wrong, so it might be worth a shot.

I do agree they are very similar, but I wouldn't wanna brick my device if there's anything different between the devices. Though, the only difference I've really been able to find is the internal storage is lacking compared to the S3 mini, and the VGA front facing camera.. Still, I'll only try it if it won't brick the Galaxy AMP.

Same here as well. I Google for a rooting method for it at least twice a day, and nothing whatsoever. I really want to get it rooted so I can install apps on my SD card (I travel a lot, and use Sygic Navigation as my preferred GPS system, but the maps are flooding my lousy amount of internal storage. It seems to me that the few of us posting in this thread are the only people who have the Samsung Galaxy AMP. AIO does seem to be spreading across the nation now, they just got Service in Texas, and I think California is next, so maybe once it gets out there more, more devs can get their hands on the phone to find a method.
EDIT: Is there a universal way to unlock a bootloader on a Samsung device?? The HTC website will basically unlock any phone's bootloader. I used to have an HTC Rezound, and all I had to do was go to the development section of the HTC website, and unlocked my bootloader directly from the website. Samsung's website has no such thing on it.
Isn't there a way to do it through fastboot? Another phone I had, I literally just went into the comand prompt with Android-sdk, typed "fastboot oem unlock" and unlocked the bootloader that way... Is that possible to do on this Samsung Galaxy Amp?

Right now, for downloaded apps, I have Sygic navigation, Words With Friends, and Ubuntu One Could manager, and my internal memory is full. I honestly don't think there will be a rooting method any time soon, which really sucks. I want root so badly to be able to switch some apps over to my SD card so I can install more than these 3 apps. But, it just doesn't seem this phone is going to get the attention we need.

Possibly a little help coming your way (HAVE NOT TESTED)...
A co-worker of mine got this phone through AIO for his girlfriend. He tried rooting and ended up soft bricking the phone (could still get into Download Mode). He sent the phone into AIO for a replacement BUT we were able to locate the PDA and CSC files for this phone. We HAVE NOT TESTED the 2 files, but i will post them from my MediaFire account. Flash w/ Odin or Heimdell (There are Numerous threads here on XDA if youre unsure how to do it, as it is the SAME procedure on all Galaxy phones). These files SHOULD work as intended, BUT i repeat ARE NOT TESTED.
EDITED: LINKS ARE UP!!
Link for the CSC.MD5 ==> http://www.mediafire.com/download/9...07ATTAMD1_1056913_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Link for the TAR.MD5 ==> http://www.mediafire.com/download/c...407UCAMD1_1056913_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Glorious Success
THANK YOU!! I had soft-bricked my phone and just flashed these files with Odin 3.04 and it works perfectly. You do realize that you're probably the first person to post the MD5's for this phone for free on the internet? Not even Samsung has these files on their website. Truly, development for this phone can finally begin.
Also, even though the CSC is ATT, it works with Aio. Apparently, they use the same towers so it makes no difference.
Thanks, Rob.

I was able to root my amp with the kingoapp software above.
A couple of things before you run off and do it. First do some research on Google on the software. Even though no one has found anything definitive, there may be malware that comes with it. It definitely does send data to a server in China. I work in the IT department of a medium sized business so as extra precaution, I used a laptop that is waiting to be scrubbed and public wifi just to be safe. If you don't have that luxury you need to ask yourself if its worth it. The second thing is that you have to have the Samsung Kies software installed before the software can connect to your phone. Once that was done it took about 5 minutes for the software to find the correct exploit to get root. Anyway best of luck for everyone.
Unfortunately I got mine rooted too late to be a whole lot of value to me. I ended up buying an att branded Motorola Atrix HD off ebay so I could get a phone with 8 GB of internal memory that was easily rootable, with an unlockable bootloader, a useable recovery and a fairly active developer environment. So my amp is now an insurance policy when i mess up flashing a rom and don't want to be without a usable phone for an hour or so.
well if u had to install Samsung Kies then it means your phone driver is missing and i apologies for my inconvinence..

[Q] So confused...

Ok, so please forgive me for this. I'm used to Samsung devices, and rooting/custom recovery is as simple as "Download this, flash through Odin, Easy as pie".
So I have my brother's P769. He had rooted it, but was unsure how to install CWM on it. Me, being completely ignorant of unlocking the bootloader, was able to get CWM on it and flash CM10.2. So, I am just trying to clarify the steps to get my brother the CyanogenMod he so desires.
From Stock:

Install CWM
Flash CM from CWM
Is this a correct assumption?

Welcome JP,getting a break from the Blaze. I've had this beast for a week and I'm ready to crush the phone. So far I've been able to root and remove T-Mobile bloatware.
I've tried to unlock the boot loader many times and no luck. I've read thru the guides and the result is the same.
I sitting patiently to see if the devs can solve the mystery of the bootloader. I can't wait for the day so I can leave the stock Rom. Hope all is well

I've had this phone almost a year. As far as the unlocking bootloader goes, it seems like some p769s just aren't unlockable, no matter what method used. Mine is one of those. It may never be able to be unlocked. Just throwing that out there.
THIS link will show you the most common way to unlock the bootloader. It has simple directions and even a video. The only problem is that it doesn't work on some devices, such as mine, so just be wary. And many people in the thread have managed to get results by modifying the instructions, but others have not had any luck.
Good luck! Hope yours works

That's the link I found, and thought "There's no way it's that complicated!"
HTC uses a dev key. I don't remember Moto's method, but it was simple. Samsung is ridiculously simple. Why is LG so complicated? This has only re-enforced my idea of "Never get an LG"

This is the worst phone, as far as modding goes, I've ever seen. I haven't experienced many devices, but geez. Heck, hacking a SGS2 i777 with a faulty USB board was easier than this, and I couldn't even access recovery without ADB commands (because it thought a USB cable was plugged in even when it wasn't, was going to download mode) and couldn't enable ADB (because it thought a cable was plugged). I had to use SQLite hacks to force ADB to enable.
However, I've never let anything stop me before. I'm a world-champion Googler, and so I will crack this will probably take me a while, but meh.

I believe this is a good phone, and think it would be a great phone if we could achieve root. I am not a Dev but I will be glad to help someone smarter than me to push this device in the right direction. Let's not let this one fall through the cracks.
Kingroot 4.95 causes brick. You have to go to recovery and do factory reset!!!
Thanks this is the only root I could get to work zte max N9521
It is a PC root from kingoroot if u can take out the super user app after u get it rooted u could try to install a different su binary file but I don't know how to do that yet so I'm stuck with a half rooted device....

I agree and I'm really surprised this phone hasn't gotten much more attention considering how nice it is. For what is a prepaid phone for many (via Boost), I can lay it down on the table next to my nice Oneplus One and honestly it holds its own for day to day use. Plus, it even has the rare microSD!
But, these Boost and ZTE people apparently have created the only damned unrootable device I personally have ever experienced. I mean, even my darn Nook readers are rooted. And I say unrootable because unlike others (even IOS) that may not be "this version" so we "wait".......apparenlty there has yet to be ANY version of this phone's build that can be rooted.
I'm so confused as to why since the "Kingroot" can get an apparent temporary root, but then for some reason the partitions are "read only" and some other similar phones take a command (makes sense, I'm still following) to first change to R/W, then use the temp root and install perm root like I have on every other device using either TWRP, stock recovery (whoops this phone they removed it), or let SuperSU try it. But, from the many hours I"ve spent trying to force the temp root to get R/W or even get a recovery running on it, it seems to me that the hangup is there is some special sauce in the way that the filesystem is locked and that is the key.
So, for any gurus reading, is it just that this phone isn't "popular" enough, or that it's just not in use in the scene? It sure seems there is always some part of the xda scene that touches every one of these devices even a tad, heck even my ancient crappy 1st gen Nook tablet still get help if I ask LOL.
I'm wondering how many would donate a few bucks if a dev would dedicate some cycles to finding a way to free this really nice ZTE Max+ N9521...I know I would!

I am willing to donate! Why so little dev interest in this phone????

Bump. How do we perhaps set up a bounty for this phone? I see multiple people have already said they would donate so how do we set up a bounty for root?
Has anyone come up with any way to kill the read-only on the zmax to be able to hold root?
