Show off your minimalist cardocks! - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

For any of you guys that hate regular big car mounts and maybe have gotten creative or found a minimalist product to mount your note 3 in your car, please share! Im talking magnets, clips, adhesive ... anything that doesnt require a huge arm sticking out of your dash.
Im currently on the hunt and the best minimalist solution i can find currently is the tetrax fixway/xway magnets solution.
If anyone has something cooler, please let me know.

I can't post links still for some reason (mods?) so do a search for the InfiniApps Slyde on Amazon. Really happy with mine. Just got a second for the wife's GS4 in her car.
YMMV depending on the case you use, the soft-touch stuff doesn't "grip" to the rubber pad quite as well, so keep that in mind.

I went with the Caseology One-Touch. Very stable and sturdy.

Clean. Do you think the arms that hold the phone have enough depth to hold the N3 with a qi charger plate behind it? Maybe another 1/2" or slightly less?

Hmmm... I think so. There's quite a little bit of room but then again I have the Tudia Melody case on my Note. I'm not using that car until tonight, I'll get back to you.

Did somebody say minimal?
I bought this mount from ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Air-Ven...1564?pt=US_Mounts_Holders&hash=item3f2a732fac
and then I threw away everything but the actual phone holder. I used heavy velcro to attach it to my dash. As you can see in the pictures, I have a hard wired power cord running to it poking out of the dash.
It doesn't budge. I can't picture anything smaller that does not include a part which must go on the phone (like a magnet).

I really would prefer something like this, but need to find the base and arms that will hold the qi behind.

Minimal mounts
My minimalist Note 3 mounts in my two cars, both using a ProClip car specific dash mount, and a pair of ex-hard drive neo-magnets each.
The magnets are held on with 3M acrylic double sided tape, and I put some heat shrink over the magnets on the mount in the Subaru (but I think I'll cut the shrink tape off, I think I prefer the look of the nickel plated magnets in the open as in the Porsche).
On both cars, I have added a hard-wired 5v micro USB charge line installed at the mount, and I've set the 'screen always on when charging'
under the Developer Options menu.
I glued a thin, 1.5" diameter fender washer on the outside of the hard case, under the rubber cover of the Otterbox Defender.
I like this set up because no permanent modifications were made to the cars, and no modifications were made to the phone itself, just the washer glued to the outside of the Defender hard case.
Cheers'

That ebay one looks good. Do you mind taking a picture along wiht ur Note 3 attached it to your vent, i guess you have directly attached it to your dashboard?
The problem with cd related mounts are 1. they take away the look of your dashboard specially if the interiors of your car is an eye candy *mine is :victory: * 2. On another car forum i read that car mount that attaches to your cd slot can damage the internals if you ever slam your breaks to hard and your car jolts to a stop.
I can sacrifice a vent but cannot place a mount on the top of my dashboard as it looks hideous. Plus i wouldnt want to attach a charging cable to the car mount, i usually keep my phone charged at max most of the times.. thanks to QI technology, plus if et all i need to charge my phone in a car during long drives i will keep a standby cable handy that is removable and attached directly to the phone (like most other mounts do)

I do like the Kenu Airframe Portable Car Vent Mount but they make it for the iphones and most android phones do work wiht it, but not the Note 3.

The mounts can be found at ProClipUSA.com, the magnets were from old desktop HDD's I had - each drive contains 2 neodymium magnets, and are pretty easy to remove.

I did attach it directly to my dashboard using heavy duty velcro tape. Unfortunately, I threw away the vent mount which came with the phone holder. So I can't take a picture. I did use it for a few days just to see what it was like. It worked well and was reasonably stable. But, I prefer the reduced clutter of just attaching the phone holder to the dash.

I use a similar setup, but with an iMagnet rig screwed to the proclip mounting plate. Works very well, very clean, and gives you some adjustability on angle.

I need some info . . . I've decided, now that I'm using wireless charging, that I want to modify my 2 minimalist car mounts to include QI transmitters . . . I've been to every mobile/electronics/cell phone shop and/or kiosk in my area, and QI stuff around here is non-existent.
I'm looking for the smallest diameter (I prefer to try using a round unit first, oval if needed), as well as thinnest QI transmitter available - that also uses mico-USB for power (I'm already wired up with stable micro-USB 5v sources in both cars). I've done countless searches on Ebay and Amazon, and it appears the thinnest I'll find is around 9-10mm, by roughly 65mm (.35" x 2.5").
I'm kind of hoping I can get info from people who have already bought some of these, before I start buying every 'mini/micro' charger on Ebay and Amazon for comparison as to actual size/quality/other potential issues.
Thanks!

I'm looking for one that is powered (with micro USB) with maybe a fm transmitter and bluetooth.
Thanks.

if anyone is using a charger for their car, i'm wondering how fast it is to charge a battery with it?
is it like when charging through your PC (slow) or just like it's standard charging?
Check brodit.com, they have/will have soon, a good holder/charger for the phone
/MKL
I make use of a Parrot MKi9100 Solution via BT.
Charging happens by a cut + angled Micro-USB Cable that is soldered to the +12V ignition Bus (with some resistors, a fuse and so on), which comes out of the front window air ventilation from my dashboard.
The Phone itself is also used as GPS Navigation System and rests in a holder, like you know it from 3rd Party PNAs (I don't know the English Word for such a holder atm.. sorry.)
I've just purchased the Brodit Fixed install Active Cradle and the car specific ProClip mounting bracket from http://www.dsldevelopments.com/
for $96 AUD inc P&H
I figured this would be a good future proof solution as if I upgrade my phone then I just need to get the right cradle and it will fit straight to the ProClip.
When it arrives I'll take photos of the install.
Yeah, I'm looking for a good landscape car mount for my X10 (has to be adjustable as I have a thin rubber case on the phone), as well as car charger and hands-free speakersphone for Christmas.

also Canadian Tire has a charger from duracell that looks like it will fit the bill for many different phones multi ends and all.
I couldnt find any proper hands free car kits for the Xperia. I'm happy to use a Blueant X9i got 3x $100 off ebay.co.hk!
I got one of these:
http://universalfuze.com/parrot_minikit.html
I think it is great!!!
I only use brodit, for the last 5 phones...
Got my Brodit kit yesterday, installed it in 10 minutes.
Forgot to take photos but can easily do it again.
The mounting face clips onto my dash near the stereo quite securely then the swivel mount just screws to that. I drilled some small pilot holes in the mounting face to make it easier and neater to screw the swivel mount into place, then just attach the phone mount to that. Plug into cigarette lighter, done.
In the not to distant future I'm going to install a secondary cigarette light socket hidden behind the dash. Its pretty easy to just hook into the existing cigarette lighter wiring, this will give the car kit the look of a permanently installed device, but actually make it pretty easy to remove. And free up the cigarette lighter for other chargers (iphone, usb adaptor for Blueant charger, etc)
So, I ended up picking up a iGrip Traveler Kit at The Source for $30. The suction cup holds pretty well on my Magellan GPS mounting plate (though has fallen off once or twice after the car gets well warmed up from the winter cold... I rigged a string to my windshield vent to prevent it from falling), and the actual holder grips the X10 superbly, even in the rubber shell case I have. You can very easily pivot it and rotate it from portrait to landscape.
For the charger, I'm using the one that came with my Jabra Cruiser.

I was using this cup holder mount that has a short gooseneck (Bracketron Universal Cup-iT with Grip-iT), and that was working fine for me. However, the position of the phone wasn't the best since I had to look down and toward my side to view it.
I just got this mount that goes into the CD slot of my car stereo, and this one is pretty nice. It's the Mountek MT5000. The mount blades slide right into the front of the CD slot, and then you just twist this little nut in the back a bit to tighten the blade grip. My X10 fits nice and snug, and now it's in a better viewing position.
If I need power, I just use one of those inexpensive USB chargers from eBay. A ten-minute job of opening one of those up, soldering together the data pins, and it works good for the phone.

Sorry but all these ideas sound pretty crap. I totally agree with vmiguel and will only buy Brodit from now on.
i have been using the ebay x10 windshield mount. for $12 it's doing a pretty good job compared to the other ebay mounts for my other phones. i'm not a fan of universal window mount kits..
not a big fan of universal kits either.

I've been through a bunch of car mounting solutions already. They include:
Cup mount: www.bracketron.com/products/universal-cup-it-with-grip-it
Cigarette power mount: www.bracketron.com/products/universal-usb-power-dock
Air vent: www.bracketron.com/products/mobile-grip-it-universal-holder
CD slot: www.mountek.com
My favorite is the Mountek CD slot mount. Its quite inventive.
The air vent one from Bracketron is good too. Its spring clips hold everything nice and firmly.
The cup mount was good too, but it doesn't offer a good viewing angle and reach for the phone.

I use this one, and love it. The drawback is you have to remove any case before putting it in the mount. I got the hang of one handed removal, but it was a bit difficult at first. Easy to rotate to landscape. Camera hole in back for using any apps that layer gps info over real time camera view. Vent mount won't work with circular/spherical type vents in some cars. You'll know what I mean if you have one of those cars.

i can't speak for joby products but i've tried something very similar to these and i am pretty sure they won't be able to hold up the gtab. i noticed they don't even have one for the ipad. or any tablet for that matter.
Have you seen the Rocketfish Apple iPad Stand? I saw one of these at Best Buy today for $59.99. I did a quick search for reviews on my blackberry and decided not to get one. It's got 3 sizes of rubber pads which, I think, would allow it to be used to different tablets.
Can't post a link yet, so you'll need to google it.
I'm using a plate hanger I picked for 2. bucks to hang the tab on my wall.
so i guess no one has created or found a way for this to happen yet huh?

Your best bet may be to try one of those document holders secretaries would use in the olden days to hold up a document while they would type out a memo or the like. I'd bet a search of Staples' website may give you guys some possible ideas.

I have not tried this (and have no need) but what about taking a clip on lamp with a flexible arm or even an articulating arm and changing out the bulb socket with one of the cup holder mounts... a few screws or nuts and bolts to hold it tight in the lamp socket ...

.... or how about a simple tripod with a piece of wood as the base mounted with the camera mount and then either velcro or a combination of wood strips on bottom, top and right side to keep in place. You could place it very close to the side of your bed and use the tripod arm to find the perfect viewing angle.

thanks for the links! i've actually thought about repurposing a lamp's bendable neck and just attaching some kinda clamp so it can hold up the gtab. the thing is though, the gtab is pretty heavy. the neck would have to be pretty sturdy, and most lamp's have a pretty weak neck. not meant to hold up about a pound and a half of weight.
so i bought this from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/PHR-NB-PB2-26...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296063786&sr=1-1 the neck is strong but its still not strong enough. i only bought it because it said its made for a dell inspiron mini 9, so i thought for sure it can handle the weight of the gtab. but the clamp didn't fit the gtab properly. the tab was about half an inch bigger than the clamp. and the way i had it positioned on my bed, the neck was not strong enough to hold the tab up. it used suction, and although that was strong, it would still fall off sometimes.
so what i'm looking for is a clip, with a strong neck, and has a clamp that will snap into place around the gtab so it can hold it in place. if i can buy this somewhere, i will be all over it. i can make it myself but it would take me a really long time because i don't have the workspace or time to make it. i'm not that good with arts and crafts stuff lol.
oh and i can't use a tripod because i'm on the top bunk on a bunk bed.
Ok next thought... top bunk ... could you mount a cable (Home Depot) and use pullies? Yes, I found those lights even are a bit tough to manuever and maintain position with just a light bulb in it. I like the type that has articulating arms with springs. Those springs can be beefed up with rubber bands. The next best thing would be a computer monitoring arm but it sounds like you couldn't drill into the bunk bed... so how about the PC monitoring arm and mount it to a piece of wood and then use come C clamps to clamp the wood to the bunk bed. Oh I just found this: http://www.amazon.com/Inland-Monito...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296069779&sr=1-3
or even this: http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Ti...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296069779&sr=1-14
and then again either de-construct your existing holder or construct a velcro based holder... piece of wood or purchase a copy holder and velcro from staples: http://www.staples.com/Staples-BookLift-Copy-Holder/product_515621?cmArea=sku_pd_box1 and http://www.staples.com/VELCRO-Brand-STICKY-BACK-Fasteners-Black/product_31402?cmArea=SEARCH.. Bolt the copyholder (book holder) to the arm, and use velcro to further secure the holder to the arm. A little bit of DIY but should work well up on the top bunk.
yea C clamps can work. and velcro. dunno why i didn't think of velcro. i'm gonna have to do some measurements and figure this out. i have a bookgem holder so i'm gonna see if i can velcro the back of that and attach it to a C clamp arm. that way, i don't have to stick ugly velcro on the back of the tab and i can use the bookgem to clamp the tab in place. thing is i have to figure out how much velcro i can put on the back of that bookgem and if the bookgem will stick. there's not a lot of surface area on the back of that thing. if not, i'll have to find another backing. maybe a piece of wood like you said or the copy holder.
thanks for all the suggestions!
DealXtreme has mount for the iPad which should do the trick;
Car Windshield Swivel Mount Holder for iPad SKU# 47030
Has suction pad for mounting.
If you want a desk or wall mount, consider the Ergotron line of products - http://www.ergotron.com/ - I can vouch for the desk mounted monitor arm and they have a laptop tray attachment - http://www.ergotron.com/Products/tabid/65/PRDID/147/Default.aspx - which looks like it would work for our tablets. (The end of the arm can be adjusted so that the laptop tray is at an angle more suitable for a tablet screen)
Has anyone actually tried one of the windshield mounts?
This one on Amazon doesn't exactly had rave reviews - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

ProClip car holder for the Nexus 6

I just had a chat with ProClip USA, they said that they will be making a custom holder for the N6.
Tal; We will be designing a holder for the Nexus 6. This design process generally takes between 4 and 6 weeks once the design team obtains the device, but can take longer depending on the device. Once we have a custom holder available for your device we will send you an email with a link to the products.

Thank you. I will have to look into this if I decide to go case less. QI in car is just too slow for me.
I don't like the ones with the built-in charger. I like to have the option to unplug. Every phone I've ever owned has given off crazy feedback noise when the power cable and headphone cable are both plugged in but no audio playing.

I also have a universal clip and it works wonderfully with my N6.

I'm a big ProClip fan but have never used an adjustable holder before.
I've been looking at the T1 adjustable holder. It's very clear how it adjusts for differing phone widths. What I can't seem to figure out is how it adjusts to differing phone depths. From what I can tell it doesn't. So if you've got a phone with no case, or a thin case, wouldn't it rattle a bit back and forth. How do you make it fit snugly?

If it is a snug fit on the width, it should hold the phone from rocking back and forth, so the depth wouldnt matter too much. I'm not saying squeeze the width of the cradle into a death grip, but a snug fit should hold the phone okay.

The width is fixed based on the rails. They give the width of the rails. What they don't say, and is annoying to me, is the phone doesn't have to fit fully between the rails. Most cases aren't completely flat edged, so just part of the sides need to fit within the rails. If the phone and case are narrower the the rails I usually adjust to the phone, take the phone out and adjust the sides in another hair. There is a little flex I the sides, and there is nothing wrong with a little tension as you slide the phone in.
If anyone else has any ProClip questions, feel free to fire away. I'm a reseller for them since I designed holsters for them back in the old palm/win ce days. Can also save you some money over buying direct, we'll except when they have the rare 25% off Sale. That usually kills it for us resellers.

I can attest to dbpaddler's knowledge of ProClip and his status as a great reseller. I've bought many ProClip custom car mounts and phone holders from him over the years.
Yeah, the T1 holder depth is larger than the phone so if you grab the phone you can sort of tilt it forward or backward. It fits in there snug enough that it isn't flopping around while you drive.
I still want one designed for a naked N6.

what I don't understand fully is the installation part in the car. videos I've seen were of the person screwing it into place around the vent. how does the universal model fit from car to car?

They have car specific mounts, Then Mounts for the phones. its kind of a two piece system. I am also waiting for the N6 mount so i can order one and a mount for my Chrysler 300s.

They'll have custom holders for every phone, always. It's just time. If you're using a case on the phone then just get an adjustable, and it will most likely be the last cradle you ever buy. I've had the same 875214 cradle since my Samsung Moment. And it has fit every phone since: Samsung Epic, Galaxy S2-4, Note 2, Note 4, Evo 4g LTE and my Avant. The design has change from adjusting in the four corners to the two in the center which started with their smaller adjutable for the iphone with skins and the BB Pearl.
The reason they're able to make cradles and mounts for just about everything with wheels and everything with a battery is because they machine everything. No high cost molds required. Machining has higher costs overall and doesn't really decrease with volume, hence their stuff comes at a premium (which I try to help with when I can). That's why when I was trying to get holsters designed back in the day, all the usual suspects just laughed at me, including Seidio. No volume, not worth our time. People on a grand scale don't want to put their big smartphones in a belt clip holster. ProClip took a look, started sending me prototypes to test, and for a few years had an exclusive in holsters. Then Seidio realized they were missing the boat, and they hopped on as did the other injection molders, and ProClip's business there dried up since they can't make $5 holsters. Their parent company is Brodit out of Sweden. Everything is designed and manufactured there. I sent a few phones and mp3 players to them for testing over the years. They even made a holder for my Rio Karma (dating myself).
Once in a while they'll have a big sale like they did for Christmas at 25% off. That's a rarity. Legally I can say I can offer you a 10% discount. That's the max they allow resellers to advertise. Key word being advertise. I sell through ebay at 10% off and just pray people email me first so I can save them a little more. Not a lot unfortunately, but it can only be so much otherwise it's not worth my time.
That said, there's no better combined mount and cradle system out there. The only problem is they rely on cracks and crevices in the dash to place the mount. Makes inserting and removal easy, great for leasing. But it also limits locations and sometimes dashes are designed as such that the only placement partially covers a vent or is a console mount that sits really low. Companies such as bracketron and pro-fit make the metal dash mounts that attach to the radio mount screw with pretty good placement usually, but it requires removal of the center dash panel. Not all want to tackle that. You start breaking clips, and it's a bear. Though some stereo installers will do it for a nominal fee. They can also tap in to the fuse box and run a 12v socket behind the dash if you want to clean up the wiring a bit and don't want to do it yourself. Companies like Kuda work similarly for mounting buy they have a leather covered box of sorts that clips in with metal bending clips and you screw in the cradle wherever you want. Pro-fit (I think) also makes adhesive type mounts that can be convenient for locations where others can't go, but don't live in Arizona and such as the heat will take its toll on the adhesive sooner than you'd like. The adhesive doesn't mar the dash though upon removal which is nice. Or you can go with the cheap vent mounts, the bean bag sit on the dash or better yet, the cd slot mount. I like my car too much to do that.
Sorry for the run on. I used to be more active promoting and helping when new phones were out, but it does get time consuming, and the real job is a little more important, so I've dropped off a bit.

2-piece system. The cradle for your phone and the dash mount for your car. The dash mounts are vehicle specific and make use of cracks, seams and crevice they can fit in a slender barbed piece that kind of locks in. Some dashes are more flexible for placement than other. If someone is using it around the vents it usually means that's the only place they had an accessible area to place the dash mount. If you go to this link you can use the drop downs to find your vehicle and see what the mounting options are. It's not universal where you can just go from car to car with the cradle. Well, unless you go with their suction cup mount which works on the windshield. But, if you do have multiple vehicles you can buy one dash mount for each car and a move kit. female piece on each dash mount and the male piece on the back of the cradle. Then you can move the cradle from car to car.
The only thing getting screwed in is the cradle to the dash mount as most people just have one primary vehicle. If you're seeing something universal, it's the adjustable cradle. They do have console mounts that are adjustable and can fit in multiple vehicles, but they are more made for one car installation and just adjust to fit.

Magnetic Car Mount - Mountek nGroove Snap 3

Has anyone tried a magnetic car mount with their nexus 6? Specifically the Mountek nGroove Snap 3 - http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroo...ablets/dp/B00MNXAFQ6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I used a magnetic mount with my Nexus 5 and loved it. I'm wondering how hard it would be to bend the magnet to work on the n6. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
I lost all hope using a magnetic dock with my N6..
If anyone got it to work do share..

I just ordered one, should be here Wednesday. I'll be sure to report back!
Yeah just ordered one today also, can't go wrong with the current price. If it doesn't work will just sell/give it away on craigslist/friends.
Tried it with my old magnet mount, it holds ok with a case on holding the metal back plate between the case and the phone. But doesn't hold firm enough for me to chance it with the phone. But then again it's some generic magnet mount, not a mountek.
I just ordered this yesterday after returning the standard CD mount that uses clamps. The clamps were interfering with the buttons way to much, and I didn't like how off centered the weight was when clamping the phone on the bottom portion of the phone. This is definitely a fail in button placement for this application. Hopefully the magnetic mount will be stellar!
Hi, i just bought it as well, i also ordered these. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007F0QRYG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If the magnet that comes with it can't bend or wont work well with the 6, maybe these little flexible magnets will work. I report back today when they arrive to see if they work well

That mount looks like a disaster.... I can't post links, but type into amazon "maggrip car mount" and get that one. It's a lot neater
Metal
Not that easy to apply, looks nice. Camera piece to fake for my liking. Feels good, little sharp on the bottom side of edges when holding.
Just tested nGroove 3 with the caseology TPU case and it worked great! Phone locked on and was very secure.
However, I like showing off the nexus logo on the back and don't know if I want to keep the caseology TPU case (using the spigen ultra hybrid currently)... Does anyone have any recommendations on how to place these magnets/plates and show off the nexus logo? I could probably use the Rinke max and put the magents on the both sides of the logo but the case may be too thick.
I was also thinking about sticking some magnets/plates behind the back cover.. does anyone know if there is a warranty seal for the back cover? I looked at the teardown but didn't see anything about the warranty seal.
OP - Just received this mount from Amazon yesterday, and I have to say it's worth it! I have a Nissan Titan and the CD slot is in the perfect spot for a mount like this I also like that the mount doesn't grip the side of the phone and press up against the buttons. I bought it from the Amazon warehouse for $15 and the unit I received looked new. You do have to tighten down the CD slot insert to endure the phone doesn't sag when you place it on the bracket, but once its tight, the phone holds steady and secure on the magnetic steel plate.
@born_fisherman what case are you using?

The case is nice. I've used Tudia for a few phones now, and never have an issue with build quality. They fit perfect and keep the phone slim.

Very interested in seeing how this worked. Any updates?
Works great.
I put the large tablet size piece that came with the stand in a case and the magnet does have some flexibility to it so it fits well in the slight curve of a N6 case.
The connection is strong and holds up going through bumps etc.
Worth the buy
I assume that if your using a magnetic holder with a steel plate attached to your phone or case, that you are not using a Qi charger. Wouldn't the steel plate would heat up when using wireless charging? I had some problems with my N5 with overheating if my phone was not in the correct place on my Qi charger, the metal in the phone used to attach the N5 to the official nexus charger would get hot.

I've been trying various magnet mounts and qi chargers hoping to find the right combination of the two. Unfortunately, in order to avoid blocking the qi coil you end up moving the magnet mount further up the back of the phone almost near the bottom of the "M" dimple. Placing a strong magnet near that part of the phone will trigger the screen shutting off "smart cover" style (coming back on again as soon you remove the magnet). I'm beginning to suspect that in order to really get everything (qi, nfc, magnet mount, with the screen on) working together right might require building something a bit more customized.
I personally am also using the mountek snap 3 mount and I have had no issues after affixing the tablet sized metal plate about 2/3 of the way down, ive ordered some extra magnets to improve the hold on the device so i dont have to worry about precisely placing the device on the Mount

Car Mount/Holder

As the title suggests, can anyone recommend a decent in car cradle/holder for the S7?
Thanks in advance

For the life of me I can't find the brand name but it expands in the cup holder has a flexible gooseneck and a holder that tilts at different angles. It is adjustable for most phones width. I found it on eBay a long time ago

With my Note 4, I very happily used iMagnet. With my S7, it didn't occur to me that it doesn't go so well aesthetically with a clear-backed case like the Otterbox Symmetry Clear. I'll probably get an inexpensive case to keep and use in the car.
I use the I Magnet mount. Been using it for a few years in a few different vehicles. The only time I ever had a phone come off the mount was the day I hit a deer doing 65 and totaled my car. Thankfully the phone wasn't damaged. The biggest downside is if you use the adhesive to stick the metal plate to either your phone or a case then it's more or less not reusable on another phone or case. Glad I saw this thread as I just realized I needed to order more steel plates. These steel plates will interfere with NFC and wireless charging. So I end up either just putting a steel plate loosely between the phone and case and then take it out when I'm done. Another option is to have two cases. Mount a steel plate inside your second case and just switch cases as needed.

That's when you bite the bullet and remove the paper backing covering the adhesive and make it stick in place. To tell you the truth, I've never done that either. I've always used the adhesive thus my need to order more steel plates today.

It would help if you would specify what function would you like it to serve....ie (wireless charging, magnetic, windshield mount, CD mount, vent mount (etc), one handed operation....
I use mine as a phone holder and dash cam. Wireless charging in the car is not important to me right now. Here is the combo that I currently use and it works well...
http://www.amazon.com/Mobie-Grips-M...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Qun...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00
http://www.amazon.com/TomTom-GPS-Da...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00
I use the base from the second link with the actual phone holder from the first link (universal ball joint) and have it suction cupped to to the item in the third link. It sits perfectly on my dash and works very well in my vehicle. It is secure, easy to put the phone in and out of, and provides me with easy access to the phone as well as all of the functions I wanted to accomplish with it.
Of course, you can just keep it simple and use the item in the first link and just suction cup it to the windshield...that's up to your needs and vehicle.
