Android 4.4+ KitKat ROM built from CyanogenMod v11.0 source with lots of custom additionsThe credit for the idea behind this project goes to DerTeufel1980, with additions from ThdDude, ad Cl3kener compiled using the Linaro-4.8.2 Toolchain for a super optimized build. Lots of tweaks under the hood for snappy response, great battery life, and the ultimate in customability. Over the next few weeks the ROM will evolve to 4.4.1, and lots of additions will be made. I plan on updating and maintaining this project so expect good things, as the ones of you who know me, know I'm all about getting you what you want...I hope you will join me on this journey to hell....

Maybe one more!!!

thank you
edit: if you dont mind is the kernel stock or does it have oc, uv capibilities...just wondering, and again thank you, loved this on my s2 and so glad you are here your builds are always solid and always smooth

Quick question for soup..... is there a reason to build with Cm over aosp? I noticed similar customization on both types of roms but Cm base seems to be buggy. Specifically with playback... on my phone anyway.

Awesome Sauce! Thanks @soupysoup! Can't wait to try!

Is this the red themed version like the Hercules build @soupysoup?

As of right now it is a modifyed SlimKernel, with Stock setup, but future builds will be compled with either bricked or elementalX kernels for more customization until my kernel guy gets a good stable kernel together

CM offers modifyed code, wich means i dont have to modify the code lol, really its just laziness but it makes my lif ALOT easier and allows me to get projects out alot sooner and faster, I go back and forth with CM and Slim as a base, and i can honestly say that I havent had a problem with my builds, normal cm DOES seem to be buggy at times, but i change so much, and use so much Linaro to do the compiling i think it helps iron out the build a little, but i could be abslutely wrong about this lol, try it out and let me know what u think...

Thats not a bad idea, actually, EVERYONE... what kernel would u like to see run with this? remember its CM based so faux and those arent going to be compatible just yet, but theres a lot of great kernel out there, and i nee something besides stock cm, or the slightly better stock slim kernel, so if anyone has any input on kernels they wanna see im willing to try a few out...

Team HellKat Proudly Presents
HELLKAT for the HammerHead!!!!
HellKat is CM11 based with a completely redone beautiful Holo Red theme. You'll probably notice a difference between HellKat and CM nightlies (or the virgin AOSP builds) due to the LINARO 4.8 toolchain we use to compile the ROMs. HellKat was first created by DerTeufel during Jellybean and was called Hellybean. We now support several devices and with a new build server we will be able to bring this beautiful ROM to even more devices. If you have another device supported by CM you more than likely can build HellKat for your other device. We have a nice build script so that the hardest part of building HellKat is setting up Ubuntu and an Android developing environement. Checkout our sources at https://github.com/Hellybean/android
Here is a quick list of our differences from CM:
- RED THEMED!!!
- AWESOME RED DEVIL DROID WALLPAPER!!!
- Init.d Tweaker built into the settings menu
- LCD Density Changer built into settings
- Option to add date to status bar (Thanks Slim)
- Transparency options for notification drawer
- Transparency option for Lockscreen
- DARK System UI (Thanks Slim)
- Build.prop injector
- Transparency options for notification drawer
- Force High End Gfx (Thanks SGT7)
- Transparency option for Lockscreen (Thanks PA)
- List View Animations
- Large recents, recents color, dual pane prefs options (Thanks SGT7)
- Options to disable bootanimation and wallpaper
- Lockscreen ring battery
- Dual Panel settings
- CM Screen Security settings
- Ability to change tile colors and transparency
- HALO)))
- More to come!!!
Things to expect in the future (because we had them in Hellybean)
- PIE (Color option included)
- Active Display
- and we'll probably grab more things as we go!
Please keep this thread on topic, and treat each other with respect.
Just like the CM team.

The Open ROM
Omni is a community-based project for the Android community which is Free^3:
Free to Use, Free to Modify, Free to Share. It's also about options, which is the beauty of Android
Introduction - What is OmniROM?
Omni is what custom ROMs used to be about – innovation, new features, transparency, community, and freedom. Our goal is to experiment with Android development because we enjoy it. Omni isn’t better, just different. It’s another option for the billion Android users out there. Android (vs. iOS and every other mobile OS) has thrived on options as well as the gigantic, talented development community that has emerged to build those options. That’s the beauty of Android – that you can pick and choose from a smorgasbord of devices with varying features and functionality.
Omni is a chance to get involved, no matter who you are. Developers, whether you’ve been developing apps for a week, or ROM features for 3 years, you’re welcome. Users, we know you want to help out, and now you can – Omni actively encourages bug reports and feature requests, which can be added to our publicly accessible roadmap.
Omni is about flexibility and giving users what they expect – and we are excited to see where the community goes with it.
What's Working
Support for old and new partition setups
Sound
Data / LTE
Voice
SMS
WiFi
Notification Lights
Sensors
GPS
other features TBD
What Needs Work
Under certain conditions (constant back and forth from 1x/evdo<->ehrpd/lte) the RIL will take it's ball and go home. This one I'm still working on getting sorted, but in the mean time toggling airplane mode will make it act right.
TBD - Let me know if you find more!

If you still want to you should be able to build it by adding the three repos I linked to above to your .repo/local_manifests folder. For the proprietary drivers I used the ones from TheMuppets github, so I would recommend those as well.
To be honest I'm still fairly newbish when it comes to building from source as well, but now is as good a time as ever to learn.

Were you able to get it with an up to date kernel? I ended up just rolling the entire kernel back to a few months ago where caf_2.6 was merged in, but unfortunately I removed a lot of important (security) patches in the process.

The more the merrier, I think the GS3 (or one of the sammy devices, can't keep them all straight) already has four different builds. lol
One of the main reasons I posted this in it's current state was to hopefully help anyone else who was working on it. Plus, with the DevDB setup you can have multiple people as sort of co-owners for the project and let them edit the OP or accept ownership for the thread.

So looks like the only things broken are GPS and camera eh? I'm just going to assume that the GPS fix doesn't work here. Flashing soon!

It looks like GPS is due to the proprietary libs CM was using. I've got a new copy building that has updated props so hopefully that one will be good now.

Hmm have u tried using evervolv kernel ? I think it might be the same as cm but it doesn't hurt to try since evervolv is aosp and they have their sources for 4.3
Edit: also try to get libs from other ROMs for camera and check if its the right size and what not

[ROM] [KK] [UNOFFICIAL] CarbonRom for the SGH-I777/SGH-959G

YOU HAVE NOW BEEN CARBONIZED
Built from the Carbon source, these unofficial builds will be updated weekly. Maybe more if time permits or there are any huge changes to be incorporated. Built specifically for our devices, no ports here anymore. This should allow it to run a bit better than a rom that was technically built for another device.
And now, on with the show!

***NOW BUILT WITH ArchiDroid OPTIMIZATION STARTING 11/07***
Many thanks to @JustArchi for his commit regarding optimizations in Android builds. What are these optimizations? Check out THIS THREAD for more details on what this entails. In most basic terms, this optimizes code within the build a lot more than the traditional flags set by the code I build from. You may not see a doubled AnTuTu score, or doubled battery life. But this provides a lot more stability and smoothness than simply using the Sabermod toolchain that is also included in these builds. So props to him for this commit. Go give the man some thanks!
Special Thanks
Let me do this first and foremost before moving on with the downloads and installation instructions. This would not be possible without the help and guidance of a few other talented builders here in our community, and without the help of those who tested this before it was posted.
Thanks to @rogersb11 and @cyril279 for helping me out along the way. Their guidance and support have been most beneficial, and without that help, this thread wouldn't be here. So if you thank me, be sure to thank them too!
Thanks to the entire Carbon Team for the hard work they put into building such an amazing AOSP rom.
Thanks to my testers, @cyril279, @edwin270, @rogersb11 and @dsteele for being brave enough to be the first people outside of myself to take this new build for a spin.
To anyone else who has helped me along the way in my Android experience and journey from noob to only partially, just a bit of a noob. Your guidance and support has been appreciated more than you could know.
Download and Installation Instructions
As always, neither I, nor the people thanked in this thread, nor your neighbor are responsible for anything that may happen to your device including, but certainly not limited to: Soft Brick, Hard Brick, Exploding Batteries, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, raining porcupines, or male patterned baldness.
**IMPORTANT: If you are coming from ICS or JB, you MUST upgrade your recovery BEFORE flashing this rom. See below for compatible recoveries**
CWM - 6.0.4.4+
TWRP - 2.6.3.0+
For SGH-S959G
CWM - 6.0.4.5 from here
TWRP - 2.6.3.0 from here
1) Download the latest build from here (Current Build: 12/08 ). Older builds can be found here.
2) Download the Gapps pack of your choice. (I personally use Slim Minimal 4.4.4 which you can find here). But feel free to use whichever Gapps package you prefer.
3) FULL WIPE if coming from any other rom. If updating, wipe cache/dalvic before flashing, unless stated to do a full wipe.
4) Flash the ROM package
5) Flash Gapps package of your choice
6) (Optional) Reboot recovery, wipe dalvic/cache. (Recommended if you are coming from a custom kernel build.
7) Reboot device and enjoy the goodness.
SPECIAL NOTES
This will flash with the stock CM kernel with CWM Recovery, which many people find a little laggy. There are custom kernels in the forums that you can flash after the rom if you want more control, performance, stability, etc.
This is built straight from the source code found on the CarbonDev Github. The only things that have been changed are the removal of CarbonDelta and ROM Stats. Since these are unofficial builds, not supported by the Carbon team, these two apps really serve us no purpose. All updates will need to be flashed through recovery.
All bugs or questions should be reported to THIS THREAD ONLY. Do not send questions to the Carbon Team as this is not an officially supported device anymore. So don't bother them. Bother me instead.
For general CarbonRom questions, check out the FAQ.
That's all I have for now. If you enjoy this rom, please hit that thanks button and inflate my ego a little bit.
Happy flashing!

OK, I don't have a BT device, but almost everything seems very smooth and functional. USB connections/transfers seem fine, and mobile data almost seems fine. I can download web content in the browser, but never could get the playstore to download any apps. It pulled up and went through the steps to say it was downloading, but the app never actually got pulled down.
Pretty good stuff to this point though...
Also, it didn't set up my google account when I was setting it up, that's usually an included step. I didn't realize it til I opened the Play Store and then it went through the Google setup.
Edit: rebooted and a playstore download started up... it just seems a little finicky about beginning to pull. I don't have full signal at home, but was getting 3 of 4 bars most of the time.
That sounds more like just a bum install of Gapps. Especially if it didn't ask for Google Account right off the bat. I've had that happen before. Usually not a rom or Gapps package issue, but just something hanging in the flashing process.
Glad to hear everything else went fine. I'll do another fresh install on mine in the morning and see if the same issue crops up.

For network I am always on 2g unless i do want to use the phone data( which i mostly never use, always on wifi). Sure 3g signal is not so strong from within your room.
When done with rom flash, I made it boot first. Then went ahead to set it up without google account, when back to recovery and flashed gapps.
Finally, after changing to "art" runtime I launched playstore then did setup my google account.
So far, so good............just about to pull my battery stat, to be sure it last as it should be. All my apps are running great so far.
NOTE: be sure to wipe/factory reset 3 times. Since previous gapps could be left untouched. I again make sure i wipe data, cache, dalvik cache again respectively, so to be certain.
Let me know how the battery stats look. I haven't really tested that, but mine is running with the RB11-Shift kernel so it would be different than if I had the stock kernel with it.

Well, baking overnight and possibly stronger signal downtown seems to have cured whatever mobile data issue I was having. I've done a couple of d/l's here at work, and it jumped on them fairly quickly, and the transfer rate seemed in line with what I normally get.
Did they include Heads-up?

Yeah!, heads up is included though there is no "personal" settings for it anywhere. To enable pull down the notification drawer look at the top right. The first icon before the tiles icon.
Working perfect even for non-intrusive calls here.

Guess must be the lockscreen notification stuff, i reconfigured mine to turn on only when i have a notification, by default it is on and guess that has a sure trigger..............just my thought.
Have no screen issue. Even turn off screen animation is disabled

Perhaps I should change up the OP and second post and leave a list of features and such? For granted, the link in the current OP will take you to the Carbon website where it's all listed.
It didn't hit me until I messaged you about the pocket mode. It took me a while after first porting it to realize what was going on. By habit now I always automatically disable it right off the bat when I flash it.
I'm going to be running off a build tonight that, if everything goes as it should, means the ROM will be built with Sabermod toolchain. Thanks to @rogersb11 once again for helping me get the necessary changes done to be sure it's going to build right. I'll test it on my own device tomorrow and if all is good I'll post it up sometime tomorrow afternoon.

About Us:
Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean. In the early days it was just a one man show on one device, the EVO 3D. Since then, many others have joined the project and it has grown exponentially.
We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours. Big or small, the focus was always on contributing to the community. That is ultimately why we do what we do. After Jelly Bean, we decided to move to a new base, OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting base because it challenged us to see what we could do with a project that had different goals in mind. We learned a lot and again, gain contributors. With Lollipop, we moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. We grew even more and learned a whole lot more.
It has been an awesome learning experience and is still not over! We are still learning every day and continue to move forward. Lastly, we DO NOT accept, nor ask, for donations. We don't believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going is out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc. We will never ask for a dime. All we do ask, is that you have patience, search, read and try to enjoy the process with us!!

I'm getting a FC from the theme chooser, what gives?
This is due to restoring data/apps from Google. Go ahead and clear data and cache for theme chooser and theme provider then reboot you should be good moving forward.
I changed my LCD density and now the navbar looks weird, what gives?
This is currenly an issue that we are aware of and addressing. For now after you changed density reset navbar layout or stay on the stock density.

Switching from Fulmics 5.3
I have been a fan of AOSP and CM-based ROM since I started fiddling Android devices. But for the first time, I used stock rom in LG G3 due to the fact that the camera performs better (according to my readings) than AOSP-based rom, mainly shooting 4K videos, time-lapse and slow-mo. But I hate the fact that the battery drains fast, overheating issues, and it lags a lot, as in a lot. I have to restart a couple of times to get my phone to work on some time.
I used Dirty Unicorn on my previous Android device (HTC One M7), and I was happy with its performance. So I'm considering this ROM, but I use my phone as a daily driver, so reinstalling apps is a bit hassle, especially coming from stock ROM. And I use camera a lot, so is there any alternative to this?
Thank you for those who will answer

Well the camera which comes with this ROM is snapdragon camera which is by far the best I've used on any AOSP/CM rom. I'd also suggest Google camera.

Yes 4K is there. As for battery, I average off anywhere between 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
TBH you just have to try it for yourself. If it suits your preference then good, otherwise look for something else. Usage and battery life depends on user to user. This is the only CM based rom which gives me good battery life along with temasek. So you should try everything as it'll give you a better insight

Mostly because I'm in vacations, and got the time this week to do the bringup for Nexus 4, then OmniROM got gerrit fixed so we could merge everything that needed to, from there, things go quite fast, team is actually quite efficient
I noticed a few kernel side commits i didn't merge yet, so tomorrow's build, you should expect a few things fixed, rotation should be fixed, and some omnigear stuff are coming back
Do you know if the future official omni 7 will require full wipe if coming from official omni 6???

I think I stated it the header, yes, it will be needed to avoid any problem, Android 7 has a lot of changes.
New build delayed for tomorrow, have been hard at work trying to solve the camera video recording, failed. Rotation is fixed.
Video recording seems to be a recurring issue on Android 7 for older devices, and none of the ROM I checked managed to really fix it for good. From there, I'm not actually certain it will ever get fixed, and because of this, I don't know if Nexus 4 will reach nightlies or not. I will publish builds as OmniROM features get backported, but won't go any further than this.
Given Google's pricing for Pixel, I am soon buying a Oneplus 3, and will switch to it for OmniROM support.
I'm not giving up totally on Nexus 4, but dev won't be as up to date as it was when I did Marshmallow or Lollipop.
Hi all! I have been wondering if Snapdragon camera is included, cuz that's the only thing stopping me from switching to Omni 7 or CM 14?

Yes, Snapdragon Camera is included, it's actually replacing the stock AOSP camera, only video recording is broken on Nexus 4 atm, that's what I was mentioning earlier, no one has this properly working 100%, camera itself is able to take pictures, no issues there, but just video recording isn't possible atm.
I remember stepen wolf with cm 14 unofficial figuring on how ot fix it. but I am not sure if he has done so as of yet or not. but he di state it was on hhis list of things to do to fix the rom. so whwho knows between you and stepean with cm14 you guys can figure it eventually.

just read his post he still has the same issue with camera video recording having issues it will record in 720 p ok but with 1080p has issues. so he will be working on it. so hopefully between kldoc and stepan the issue will get resolved.thats the only issue with nexus 4 having had the AOSP 7 rom on my nexus 4 over 2 months now. kldoc I am also agreeing with you google made a big disservice to the developer by raising the price of the pixel for the development community. as soon as I have some fund I will be joining in support and getting a 1 plus 3 as well. the only thing will be to get older nexus device and keep them up to date and then going forward go with other vendor to prove to google that they are not the only premium product with a outrageous price that the development community cant afford and then will end up jumping ot other product lines to support going forward in the future . that's one thing that google has now gotten out of touch with its community. they are forgetting that the development community got them to the big Android dance. The developers developers . I respect what all you guys and gals do here on XDA for all of us!!!!

Feedback i have, is most devices actually have camera issues on Android 7, things will eventually smooth out and get polished
I still have a build to publish today, been working on that camera issue, but also working on cleaning up stuff to get that on OmniROM's gerrit and github.
I checked his work, but he's more or less at the same point everyone else is, sill no real solution atm.
Oh and by the way, my builds are also Selinux enforced
will be patiently waiting ot test the next build you have out for nexus 4.thanksfor maintaining and building android 7 for nexus 4.
Uploading the new build as we speak, Battery light are back, Custom notification lights are also back (didn't in Omni 6).
Rotation is fixed, battery display is back, and a lot of Omni features are back, doze mode isn't there yet, but should be soon.
EDIT: Link in the OP updated, enjoy
Have fun with OmniROM !
P.S.: I merged my commits on Omni repos for kernel and device trees
Awesome ROM, keep up the good work.
However, there are some issues I noticed;
1. Can't seem to change the SELinux mode to Permissive with SELinux mode changer.
2. Permission requests appear as in the screenshot with no way to take an action (can grant from settings though).
Btw, is SuperSU integrated into the ROM?

No you will not be able to change SELinux to Permissive rom within the system, if you want to run OmniROM permissive, you need to build it by yourself, OmniROM (not only me) is really strict about this. The initial build was permissive, but it was a proof of concept. Android N changes a lot of things, there might be bugs here and there, but SElinux is relatively working well now.
Permission granting, i will have to check things on that, but ROM is barely coming together, 80% of our maintained devices are barely uploading a semi working build, will ask your for a bit of patience
Supersu never was a part of OmniROM, and probably won't be anytime soon (if ever).
A screenshot without a logcat is more or less useless ...

Just to clarify if my post seemed like a complaint, this is awesome work and really glad that devs like you are keeping a 4 year old device alive Just wanted to point out the issues I faced in order to help you make it better..
I was able to set it to permissive by the command "setenforce 0". Need it to get Viper4Android working
I will post a logcat if I encounter any issues. Keep up the good work :good:

Oh, I wasn't aware Viper4Android was still being maintained, external modifications aren't something we bring support to, mostly because it changes initial behavior and it's hard to predict what changes towards drivers support throughout system updates.
Someone in Omni pointed me at a modified video recording handling ( coming from slimrom actually), will give it a shot tomorrow.
I'm also planning to enable LTE support for those who need it in the future, even though I won't be able to test it (China's network don't handle those frequencies)

Your existing build actually already picked up LTE for me, with no modifications needed. Working just fine on my end

Yes, sorry, have been busy, I'll post a build from Very late August as currently I have issues with building that I need help resolving. Mainly because LineageOS moved to new kernel configs for the regular S5 and so I need to modify one in with the Sport stuff...
Also I currently took my dad's S5 Sport back to stock so I cannot test myself at the moment. If anyone has a spare S5 Sport for testing, I'd gladly take it to finish this ROM and make it official

No need to apologise, I appreciate what you're doing and I understand it takes some time.
If you need another S5 Sport, you can get one here https://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=112560349301&fdback=1
I bought mine from the same seller, no issues. It even arrived days early!

Nice! My father is considering a new phone here so I'll probably hold out for a bit of time and see if that happens. If not, I'll try and scrape some extra money together for another phone... I have a few to many because of other projects, AKA Android 4 Lumia so I have like 7 windows phones
Anyway, I'll get that build posted tonight and update the OP

It would be great if you could add Substratum support. I just flashed a CM14 build and Substratum in Legacy Mode left me with a bootloop.
Link below may provide some info on how you can do this...

Sorry about that mate! I should update the OP to mention this for now. I'll try my best to add support but right now I need to make the trees build able again with a new kernel defconfig. The current build is good in everything else?

To me the biggest issue is the white background though... and since this phone has a AMOLED screen well the benefits of a black theme to me are higher... 1 Eats less battery (turns pixels off), 2 Easier on the eyes, especially in dark places, 3 to me it just looks cool.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Nougat got better with the black interface but Oreo went to white so yeah...

I've decided to put up with default theme for a while... CM13 build from other thread was too buggy.
Camera and Flashlight from the pull down notification bar don't work. Got a Substratum Theme to function in Legacy Mode, but it had some bugs.
The built-in root is adb only. I have the file to enable apps you may want to share it. I'll upload it here sometime, also will give you a logcat..
Also I got ViPER Audio working with the IO fix.. Had to set SELinux Permissive to install the drivers.
And lastly, Changing the GPU Governor in Kernel Auduitor causes a reboot.
Here is a zipped Logcat, Bug report, and the SU Addon to add root access for apps.
SU Addon gets flashed in TWRP.
If anyone needs root, then you can find it on the Extras tab of the LineageOS downloads page. I'll try to work on the phone today but my knowledge is not very good still
