extract modem.bin help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

help! as I can extract the modem.bin file from a custom rom to install another rom?

Bit hard for anyone to help you when you're being vague. It's not rocket surgery; download rom, unzip, use 7Zip/IZarc/whatever to extract modem.bin from rom tar.

Your question isn't clear. For what reason do you want to extract a modem to then install another rom? there is no relation between. So just give us a bit more infos about your wish/problem, so it will be helpful for both sides then.

the problem is that with a rom everything goes very fast and stable but the signal coverage and fail. in the other rom is slow but has good signal coverage, my desire is to pass this modem.bin for fast and stable rom

Okay then.yes this should be possible. Look for the modem you have in the good signal rom. You find it in settings info baseband.
You will find this baseband in the internet somewhere for download. Then flash it with odin as phone over the download mode. If you extract the file you will be also able to only flash the modem.

Odin flash help

Hi guys.
Here's a little update what i've done with my phone.
Last night i have flashed ICS KP8 through ODIN.
I have reverted to GB this morning 2.3.5 and now i want to flash my stock firmware 2.3.4 I9100XWKI4 (TWO).
I have downloaded the desired ROM (I9100XWKI4_I9100XXKI1_I9100OXFKE1_HOME.tar.md5) from SAMMMOBILE but when i extracted it it only contains 1 file of size 539MB.
So...this is my question...where am i supposed to put that file in ODIN and do i need something else or just this file?
Tnx in advance
Follow instructions from the firmware provider makes sense .
No idea whats in the file from another forum .
Usual is to flash tar via PDA .

Maybe it's a one part .tar file? (Just to put in PDA)
Pls write the name of file here.
But to get sure, download the firmware, u want, from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Flash like instruction says and all should be fine
PS: If u want to be sure what's on with downloaded file, pls complete name...
CHEERS
Tar.md5 "one big file" roms just go in the PDA slot and Odin will work it out.
The md5 bit just means that Odin will do a checksum to make sure the file isn't corrupt, so no need to extract it.
Also make sure you flash the GB bootloaders first, available in the thread linked above

any ROM modem/kernel

If I'll delete the modem file from the any ROM's zip file, it will install everything fine except the modem?
Same thing with the kernel file into the zip?
There is no problem to delete the modem file (where is kernel file @ the zip?) and flash it without modem - cuz I want to keep the modem I've got instead of flashing again the modem.....
thanks!
I assume you are talking about stock firmware here.

Not absolutely sure but this should work. However it is probably better or easier to go the other way: flash the entire firmware and then revert to the kernel/modem you prefer. Kernels and modems can be individually downloaded either to be flash with CWM or ODIN.
The kernel of a stock firmware can be found in the corresponding I9100_CODE.... tar file. If you look into this tar you will find a file named zImage, this is the kernel.
Thanks mate, I'm talking about a custom ROM (AOKP based)
if its possible to do this ,,, ?
[VIA CWM]
If you flash a custom rom and you end up with a modem you don't like you can re- flash preferred modem separately after you have installed the ROM. There are several threads here that have many downloadable modems to choose from. All the best.

yeah, i know mate, but just curious to avoid this action (of flashing other modem again, even though its a pice of cake) if i'll delete the modem.bin file from the ROM's zip file // or kernel file .... if it will flash the ROM without any issue (without the modem/kernel file that i've deleted from the zip)
I see, I'm sorry I can't advise you on that as I'm a noob myself and have not started at altering ROMs prior to flashing. Sorry.

Most roms do not include a modem. (Well all the proper roms). And like previously stated, just take note of what modem you have and just reflash it in cwm recovery.

Arr u trying to flash custom rom?
yes
thanks for your answer
but i don't want the rom as cm9 to flash the modem.
or where can i locate in a rom (custom zip not 1pack tar) the modem.bin
thanks again
atv
Man, cm roms never bring modem. Modem is a Sammy thing.
You should read and search a bit. There is a full thread about modems, csc with all you need inside.
My god this is noob central here isnt it???
Just open the zip and remove the modem.bin. there you go.

[Q] Flash Stock Kernel

Hi guys,
I'm new here, sorry if this isn't the right place...
I'm a GS3 owner and just flashed the ROM I9300XXDLJ5_I9300ODDDLI7_INU.
I would like to flash the SpeedMod kernel but before doing that I need to know how do I install the stock kernel if needed.
Can you point to the right direction?
Thank you
If you make a backup, resorting the backup will also restore the kernel
I did, but I don't want to restore the whole thing... all I want is to restore the kernel if needed.
Tell me, extract boot.img from India ROM and make a new .tar with this single file will work?
Thank you

Try to search forum or Google to find your stock kernels flashable zip or tar . Download it.. it will works. But pay attention to ICS / JB difference.. flash right kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
you could also extract it from the ROM's file and flash it I guess.
Thank you guys.
Extracted boot.img from Sammy Indian Rom and made a new .Tar using S3 Toolkit.

coz in the mentioned thread the pit file is in the GB section and the recovery pack that i think i need'

Put any firmware stock or custom to pda, dont touch anything else. Firmware must by .tar or .md5.
Here you can find roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529173 or stock on sammobile.com.

thank you for your help but.
i tried this, cant flash a rom trough odin dont know why -something about the nand
If you are stuck at nand write whatever you have tried, i think its corrupted and its time to change your motherboard... This happened to another guy earlier on...

If you get a nand flashing error, then just use correct pit plus repartition marked... in most cases it is enough to just flash pit area, plus of cause a stock rom
