Successor to HTC ONE in February 2014? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

HTC is close to launching the successor flagship model to the HTC One. HTC has not revealed the launch date. Nokia has adduced evidence which suggests that the launch date is in the first quarter of 2014 and possibly as early as February 2014. HTC has not contradicted this.

Very interesting... Coincides with my sprint contract expiration quite nicely.

SD card or bust
I'm really hoping they come to their senses with that. (no pun intended) The one was the first upgrade I've skipped thanks to lack of a sd card, and while the evo lte is still a solid device I'm sure not going to wait another year for a new evo.

Would be a step back, since the Max has a sd slot..

Ditto there.... Debated it many times here and just couldn't do it
Now will get the next HTC With the 805 SoC in it.... Long as it doesn't wait till after mid year...

This looks like a very promising upgrade for me. But I really am not a fan of phones without SD cards these days...

SD cards are old hat. Don't need them. they are slower and have more issues then on board storage. Just make the new devices with 32gigs minimum of on board storage and all is well.
Nothing more irritating then SDcard 0 and SDcard 1. How many times has this driven good Dev's batty? Ask the sense 5 rom porters.
Not too mention the only reason the EVO LTE doesn't already have a multirom port is because the sd card issue. Years ago I would have told you I needed an SD card slot. Truth is I buy an sd card and throw it in and forget about it. Hvent removed it since the EVO lTE was new and it might have well just been on board storage. I have a Nexus 7 and love the fact that it doesn't have an SD card confusing everything. Love not having to remember which drive the rom is on when flashing in recovery. "now lets see...did that download go to sd card0 "downloads" folder or sd card 1 "downloads" folder?" Yeah enough of that trash!
SD cards are for OG nerds, you fill up a 32 gig phone and I say go buy a real video camera there Spielberg.

That's just it, you put it in and forget it. And in the process, you buy 64GB of storage for $40, instead of $300 (or, not at any price, for most phones). I use pretty much all of my storage on videos and other stuff. That doesn't need to be fast.

Hahaha, that's not a spec list, it's a wish list. Lol. It may as well have said 32gb ram and 40,000mah battery .
Still, I'd love to see them keep it looking pretty damn close to the One. One is the sexiest phone I've ever seen, but I had to skip it due to no upgrade, so anything else made won't look as goof, unless nearly identical.

I could fill up a 64 gig card with music alone. I don't find it confusing because I don't use the onboard drive for anything.

Some people like to have most of their music with them (me included), and NOT stream from a cloud with ok reception and eat up battery life. Maybe a 128 gb phone would be acceptable, 16 and 32 are not enough, and haven't been for yrs. Better graphical games are bigger nowadays as well. And I have tons of games, and all emulators on mine. Seriously, stop bashing on people who like options. U want to be ruled by Nazis, than get an iPhone! Sorry, but that's my 2 cents

I bought a 32 gig Kingston technologies sd card still in original package. Worked for 4 days then could only be read as blank sd card. Called manufacturer, gave the numbers off card and was told out was a fake.
got it straight from a verizon store, I could hardly believe it would be a fake, if anything I'll return it
nvm, it actually reads 30 gb, I was looking at my internal storage the whole time in media link doh!
got this card for a steal too at $50.
when you said fake I was like, hmm explains the price

[Q] I have a Vibrant. I'm trying to turn it into a SUPERFRANKENVIBRANT!!! Thoughts?

Ok everyone, so I've beaten the living hell out of my Vibrant, but now I'm trying to:
-do the FFC Mod (not that bad, still waiting for the FFC to come in)
-replace the internal SD card with a 32GB one and reinstall the OS from ODIN (assuming ODIN recognizes it).
-get a Galaxy S 4G antenna and install that in place of the vibrant antenna (this is the crazy part)
Is this at all possible? If so, EXCELLENT!!! If not, ok, but it was a cool idea.
My point here is to say that if this is possible, can it be done on the HTC Sensation 4G (the part about replacing the internal SD card)? I know it's a long shot, especially with it being a different company who has a vendetta against rooting, but it's still worth hoping for, right? Anyway, feel free to flame or post ideas (preferably ideas).

The modulation scheme between 3G and 4G is different. The frequencies are the same, so changing the antenna isn't gonna help. The transceiver chip would have to also be swapped.
Also, I would bet that the internal SD is on a chip... Not a removable card. And I would also bet the bootloader would have to be modified in order to see the 32 gig addition.

You must use Class 4 MC's with this device

FYI...
I was told by an HTC Rep that you must use a Class 4 memory card with the EVO 3D or else it will NOT perform properly! The 3D must be able to read/write to the uasd card fast enough. This will cause lock ups and reboots if you go ahead and just stick your old class 2 memory card in the phone! This especially happens if you try to take 3D pictures or 3D videos with a class 2 memory card inserted (I have actually seen this for myself...no bueno).

I'm not discounting this, but from a developer standpoint, it doesn't make much sense. Just because a write is taking a few ms longer, shouldn't cause errors so fatal the entire platform crashes. Then again, with HTC coding, I wouldn't be surprised. And 3D pictures aren't anything more than two JPGs saved side-by-side, nothing special or worthy of overwhelming your datapipe any more so than copying an MP3 file.
I have my old EVO card in it and everything runs perfectly.
This is total BS. Don't believe everything you hear

OK right...but yet they are informing people about this in HTC's events that have happened for the 3D and sensation? Now why would HTC just go ahead and say that?
I was actually wondering about this too. Initially I thought the really slow image caching was due to my class 2 sd card on my evo that causes scrolling lag in apps with pictures. I.e, market, trillian, twitter, but i guess that's a evo gingerbread issue I believe.
But what about the devices that still lock and crash using the stock sd card the e3d came with? Or is it safe to say that those users who complain of the lockups and what not are using aftermarket sd cards?

I wasn't, bone stock, crashed/locked up even without an SD card in it
I'm running stock, with the original micro SD card, and I've only crashed once. But it was a weird crash where the screen wasn't working but the phone apparently was, because I could access it through bluetooth. I'm going to test it hard over the next couple weeks to make sure it doesn't continue to happen.

I have a class 2 32GB card in mine and have had no problems at all. I even watched the first 25 minutes of Green Hornet (which I copied over from the OEM card).
My guess is that HTC is dispensing foolproof info that will minimize any support calls. Similar to how the FDA recommends meat cooking times far above what's necessary for food safety to minimize lawsuits from fools getting sick and dying.
I hadn't even noticed the phone came with a class 4. Seems strange that it would cause instability to run it with anything slower.
anyone know the max size of card the 3vo can take?
I'm gonna have to call BS! I'm running a C10 16GB card in my 3VO and I haven't had one reboot or lock up yet.

Hmm... do you have some enormous apps installed? I still have well over 7 gigs free, and I'm not even using an external SD. I have quite a few pics, a few dozen apps, and some music.
Not that I can see. Largest is Adobe flash at 12.38mb. There are a couple others around 10mb, and the rest are all 5mb or under. 405MB used by apps.
Edit: I think I found the issue. The CWM folder is 7.9GB.
Dear lord, what's in that folder?
9 nandroid back ups. Which is about 6 more than I remember making.
That would be to many backups......LOL

I rename them manually using ADB. (The phone is always by the computer on USB when Nandroiding.)

Entropy, I have no idea how I ended up with so many. I suspect it may have something to do with the time I spent trying to screw around with rom manager.
I haven't had any issues so far except for some lag. I have a 8GB sandisk that is probably a class 2 or 4. I'm looking at getting a 32BG class 10 here soon which will hopefully eliminate the lag I'm getting after taking pictures.
I'm curious...what was the problem? The extra backups eating up that much space?
Yup, each back up was about 3/4 of a GB.

Sirooga,
There is a known problem with some 32gb class 10 cards corrupting data in android phones. The workaround is to format it with a windows pc. Do a full format, not a quick one, and the important part is to set the cluster size to 32kb. After that it put it back in the phone and all should be good.

First of all, the newer cards supposedly have updated their firmware so it's not an issue anymore. So if you have a newly purchased card from a supplier with fresh stock I doubt this would apply.
But for anyone having corruption issues it may be worth a try.
Here is a link to a related thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146665
And here is the post I was referring to, cut and paste from the Patriot memory support forum:
"We have found that there is an industry wide compatibility problem with the new Android based and Windows 7 phones working with 32GB class 10 micro SD cards. We have seen issues with the Samsung Focus, Motorola Driod/X, HTC Evo 4g. We are currently working on a solution for this compatibility issue. Google and Microsoft have stated that there are known compatibility issues with 32GB class 10 micro SD cards and are working on a solution as well.
We have found a fix that works in many cases, where you format the card in a Windows based PC, with FAT32, allocation size 32kb, and full format. This is not an official fix, but troubleshooting steps that has worked in many cases, we are still working on a permanent solution for this issue.
Thank You for choosing Patriot Memory!"

Memory Card issue

I had been using a Samsung evo 32gb in my g3 with no issues. I upgraded to the Samsung evo 128gb and now when I play my music, the music drops out a lot. I don't understand. I had a replacement sent to me and it does the same thing. I bought them from Amazon and have ran two different apps to test them. They come back as genuine Samsung cards. The cards are reading @ 41 mbs. So I'm not sure what the deal is. I only have a couple of days before I have to send the card back so I'm trying to find out if the cards are good or not. Thanks.

What format is the card in? FAT32? ExFAT? Whichever it is, try the other. Even if it came formatted, you can try formatting it from the phone instead. Sometimes it makes a difference.
Also, there's some apps to increase the cache for your Micro SD card. I think some music apps have a cache setting, too.

I haven't used any in a while so I don't remember specifically the app names.
If you search the Play Store for SD cache I see some but some of the hits are for other things related to cache, so you'll just have to judge by their names.
I think among all the other things it does, I believe ROM Toolbox by JRummy does that, but that app's overkill and might require buying for some features.
Sometimes I wish I could pay it forward with apps I've bought in the past. I've probably stopped using more apps that I've paid for than apps I currently use that require being bought.
You're welcome!

I have a 128gb Lexar 633x Class 10 (black/blue) that my VZW G3 will not recognize(mount) the card in any format or formatted with different softwares. Works fine is cameras and pcs/laptops.
But it will mount the 54gb version of same card.
good luck
Well, going from exfat to fat 32 seems to have helped some. It still has some drop out, but not like before. I'd say it's probably reduced to 1/2 or 1/4 of what I was experiencing.
