Why do case manufacturers insist on leaving a gaping hole where the camera is! A simple magnetic or even Velcro flap over the lens hole would prevent perhaps the most prone to damage area of the phone from getting scratched and dirty!
it drives me nuts!... I remember when phone makers used to have lens protectors built in, I remember a couple of great Sony Ericsson handsets,.
Does anyone have any remedies, other than putting my phone in a sock!

In case you don't know:
1. The piece of glass above the camera is Gorilla Glass. The same material that's protecting the screen.
2. It is possible (in fact very easily) to replace that cover. Just search ebay for N9005 Rear Chassis Housing. It's not cheap, but certainly not expensive either. ($ 20 - 30)

Days later.. nothing... Found lots of people complaining about damaging their lense, and even videos on how to replace the camer lens cover..c'mon, someone can design something simply for a case to cover the lens hole, but be easily movable!

I really don't see the necessity, if it ever gets that bad just replace it or use a piece of scotch tape that you take off to use it. If you really want something that bad, I got a few camera lens film protectors that came with my nillkin tempered glass protector I can mail you. Assuming your in the us (cant see location on app).

Yep! I haven't seen a case out there that covers the camera. I don't think it's ever going to be made.
I remember along time ago, I had these lens protector for mobile phones, the package comes with abpproximate 20 pieces of different sizes of circles, the same material of that used for mobile phone screen protector.

I believe that the area infront of the camera should be even more recessed, in order to avoid normal wear-and-tear when laying my phone on table.
This is why I have taken an oversized housing that doesnt make the camera part touch the table when resting it. The downside to it - I am walking with an oversized housing... I totally agree with you.
But then, I am not a paranoid. I've been through worse experience before ....
My old S2 I9100 ... after some time, My camera would take blurry ( i mean REAL BLURRY) pictures. worse thing was that the glass was not part of the battery door. Been trying elimination techniques to identify the issue (since it started all of a sudden IMO) - swap ROMs, came back to stock, camera app , ... well ... in the end, I had to buy a mid plate housing, then change everything.. quite some courage and skill it took... Not the kind of thing any user would do. I started to hate that design in the end, but not the phone ..
I believe manufacturers should not ignore this very valid point, and put a more recessed camera portion. I dont believe putting a camera lens cover would do - putting a mechanical part will make it break at some point. Again, putting a lens cover will mean they will make the internals more fragile, making it more vulnerable when the cover mechanism would actually fall apart. And, of course, it would not be the same letting someone/ everyone know when you are about to take a picture, when u are moving/ removing your lens cover ! obviously !

No, been using phone cameras since they came out, never had a problem. I always do a quick wipe against my soft cotton undershirt before taking a pic just in case there was a fingerprint but never ever have I looked at a picture and said, damn, if only it didn't have that smudge on it, wish I had a protector for it! I have perfect vision too.

This is just a little tutorial how to remove / replace the camera glass.
1 - First follow this steps (stop listen to page 3.3 "Disassembly"):

2 - Now push the glass from the inside of the cover that you just removed. It will not take much effort, the glass is held in place by an adhesive ring.
(I took pictures of the steps ...)
Since I'm a CAD designer and I use CNC machines, I made from a sheet of 2mm thick plexiglass the replacement of the original glass full of condensation and scratches ...
(If you need send me an email, I'll see what I can do ...)
3 - Anyway, replace the cover, then reinsert the new glass.
The glass (plexiglass) I've done, is often little more than the original, so it is not necessary to use glues or adhesives to stop it. Just place it and close the external cover. Simple and functional.
Obviously necessary to consider that the plexiglass is not resistant such as glass, then the solution is temporary. However, once again scratched will just replace the glass with another one simply by removing the external cover.
That's all. I hope it was helpful!
(The last two photos are the tests "with" and "without" the glass (plexiglass)

Why did you replaced the original glass? Don't you fear that the plexiglass is scratching much easier than mineral glass?
I'm asking because I have a strange spot in the middle of my Xperia Mini Camera glass - it looks like an antyglare film-cover of the camera glass is falling away from the glass. The glass itself doesn't seem to be affected(not scratched), but it looks with some pinky/lila spices seen while mirroring light at different angles. And in the middle of the glass this effect seems to dissappear by the probable lack of this cover - there is only the glass without colour in the mirrored light.
On the pictures the lack of this cover is seen when I take picture with a ligth coming in my direction - from a window or between the trees in the wood. So the picture looks very blurred. How can I find a new camera glass?

I did not understand, your problem is when you have the light against?
I can not tell if it's normal, but from a camera like ours you can not expect much more...
However I can tell you that I thoroughly searched the web but I have not found the original spare part.
The only option is the Sony service, but having the device with the bootloader unlocked, so...
Since I do not have the possibility of working with glass I had to choose the plexiglass.
I understand that it is not as strong as the glass, but I can assure you that it works very well.
I have ten.
I can send you one or two.

I have the same problem - the glass on my ST15i lens is damaged and all the images come out blurry and unfocused. So i wanted to ask - would the WT19i replacement glass fit on my xperia mini? Does the size match? It's quite expensive with postage, would not want to order it just for kicks.

Even though I agree with you, I still think it is kind of unique and the colors mix is nice.
Alright here we go.. I purchased this on the 21st and got it today which is not bad considering it came from China. I'm not that great writing a product review so I hope pictures speak louder than words.
I'll just describe the product instead of listing the pros. All around this case is pure plastic, I can't put my thumb on it but it is plastic and screen side (with the window) is flexible (just like the OEM). The window is not glass so it'll be prone to scratches and finger prints. Comparing to the OEM case I feel that the window quality is pretty sturdy because the plastic window doesn't feel cheap when I bend it, tap it, or flick on it. Continuing on the front side, there is a speaker hole so you can listen on to calls. There is a indented quote "design endows product a life" midway below the case. And at the bottom.. yes it a metal button just like the metal design/quality of the home button of the actual phone.
Moving to the side, just like the OEM, there's indented prints for the + and - volume keys. Nothing much else to look here.
On the back, the Baseus logo is indeed metal and has a nice feel when you smooth your finger over it. The camera and lens is kept protected with the case on so it's not protruding out.
Functionality of the S-View: the two metal pins on the back of the case is indeed for the control of the sleep and awake feature for the phone. So when I close/open the S-view, it will awake or sleep and will show the regular OEM functions (i.e. S-View slide to unlock, camera, action memo, and music player shows up).
Cons:
three things that bug me about this case. Metal button in the front (really?), as you can see in the photos the case does not fully close all the way (won't bother me as much because the sleep function will works), and since it's flexible plastic I feel that the flap (the side plastic) overtime will wear out and rip.. well that just normal wear and tear of products.
Overall I'm actually very satisfied with this product. I didn't want to purchase the OEM S-view case and sought better alternatives for the S-view cases. I found this and I'm truly again satisfied. Try it guys.. for $20 it's worth it. It comes in different colors (I didn't find full colors, only two-toned). Let me know if you guys are getting it!!

For a Chinese product it doesn't look bad. Please keep us updated on durability. If Spigen doesn't release theirs soon I might consider this one.

I have one of these too. I'm pleased with it, considering the price of it versus the S-view. I'm hoping over time the case will stay closed better.

Home button on ALL Samsung Galaxy models are protruding by default.
Bought one in White and Black. Really good cover. Does what the original cover does. The front of the cover does close properly for me and the home button doesn't cause the front to stay open. The only thing that was annoying me was the s view window has scratches on it already

I've not seen any scratches on the screen so far
I've posted a thread on Reddit getting into more detail about the spontaneous crinkling of the area surrounding the power/volume buttons, but obviously as a newer user I can't post links.
After reading over some 20-30 different cases and having experienced the crinkling first hand...
I believe that it's related to case usage, but it might help to further narrow down the cause of this issue.
My theory is that since metal expands/contracts in varying weather, it is expanding to a size which is too large for the case it is fitted in, resulting in the metal crinkling in the spot where it has the least amount of structural support. For someone like myself who works in property management, I'm constantly moving back and forth between room-temperature environments and colder 40-50 degree weather. The plastic/TPU case may contract/expand as well, but not at the same rate or the same degree as the metal chassis.
If this issue has happened to you post what type of case you use if applicable and how long you've had your device. Post photos if necessary.

Honestly it's not super widespread. Remember it's the minority who will speak out about issues and most people will go on without having any issues. Don't shy away from this great device because a few of us are trying to figure out this issue.

And it crinkled at the exact same spot. I thought it had something to do with the tightness of the case so I got a flexible tpu case to hopefully avoid it

The answer is, the phone is in your pocket, you sit down or do anything that causes your pants to apply pressure to your phone, it flexes and causes that little ripple in the metal.
I'm cautiously calling BS on this one. This is either a manufacturing defect or the result of some mishandling. Aluminum is not deforming like that without considerable force.
Also note the little chip in the glass right where it's bent (2nd picture).

That's interesting. I was thinking/hoping that that type of case (Supcase) would prevent any bending because it offers a bit more stability.

If that were true all phones regardless of make/model would bend. Of course any phone can bend with enough force applied but it would seem there's more at play here because the bend/kink is occuring in the same place. A case, especially an OEM sanctioned case, shouldn't bend a phone by simply inserting and removing it. As for being put in a pocket that's pretty common and you'd think it would be designed for.
If you look at the design of the 6P it's more sensitive to top-to-bottom stress because there's nothing holding the mid-frame to the aluminum body in the center. Most people put a case on top-to-bottom; at least I do. You'd be better off putting a 6P case on or removing it side-to-side to avoid putting pressure on the button cut-outs which are the weakest part of the aluminum frame.

I do understand what you mean. The issue is that it doesn't seem to be a problem with 99% of phones on the market. It seems that manufacturers should know by now that the phone will be put in our pockets so they should manufacturer them to withstand it.

Me too. I like the way the case looks and feels. It's very tight on the phone. The edges around the phone are very flexible though

things bend sure, not like how the OP's picture is, or many others that have had the same issue.
there is bending, and then there is bending . this a design flaw in the nexus 6p . everyone jumped all over jerry rig video on youtube, but he exposed where the flaw was and cracked the phone with his sneeze.

Here's what's missing from the design Huawei chose for the 6P.
Unlike Samsung, LG, and Motorola who use the same design, there's no unity between the subframe and body of the phone on the 6P. The digitizer/display assembly is attached to the subframe with glue and those parts are secured to the aluminum frame only at the top and bottom. So when bent the aluminum frame is the weakest link. The strongest part of the 6P's structure is the area covered by the battery. The cutouts for the buttons and finger print sensor which weaken the frame just happen to be above the uppermost part of the battery.
Here's the video that still came from.
Cases do not cause the ripple (bend). When the phone is flexed in the middle is when this ripple will occur, has nothing to do with a case. I had a few 6ps up until now, 2 of them had this ripple. One got rippled over time and one was rippled out of the box - Neither were ever in a case.
The one that was slightly rippled out of the box, I did my own testing. I flexed the phone in the middle one way, then back the other way. When I flexed away from the screen the ripple would tighten up. When I flexed the phone towards the screen the edge would ripple a great degree. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to completely straighten out but it was clear that there is a lack a rigidity along the right edge. This has absolutely nothing to do with using a case.

I believe that it's related to case usage, but it might help to further narrow down the cause of this issue.
My theory is that since metal expands/contracts in varying weather, it is expanding to a size which is too large for the case it is fitted in, resulting in the metal crinkling in the spot where it has the least amount of structural support. How much pressure did it take to get the ripple to come up?
I posted over at Reddit that I had some camera scratches I couldn't figure out how I got. Turns out lots of people are reporting camera lens damage.

They aren't scratches, its a coating that is very easily scratched. Possibly only affects black units, could just be easier to see.

I heard that the camera lens is covered with Gorilla Glass 4, which would make it just as scratch resistant as most phones out there. It is, however, flush with the rest of the phone, so it could easily be scratched if not in a case.
I don't have any scratches. I just looked at it with my big magnifier lamp and not a single scratch.
I had a case before my phone came (like the OP in the link). I'm very gentle with my stuff though. Don't put it in pocket with keys. When it's in the purse, it's facing fabric.
Mine is scratched. Only went without a case for 2 days. I am also careful with my phone but it seems that simply setting it down on a table has scratched my camera glass. I can't believe it would scratch that easily.

This is why I'm so confused. I am so careful with my devices. I just have to have it look good enough to do a Jump on Demand trade in, and then move on I suppose.

You can still jump with minor nicks and scratches. That's considered normal wear and tear according to the jump guidelines.

Look at this durability video. Granite can supposedly scratch the lens if you're not careful. So yay it's not sticking out... but not strong enough to slide around.
The rest of the phone is well made though

This is why I ordered my case Amazon Prime the moment I did my pre-order. Juuuust in case.
They aren't scratches, its a ****ty coating as I just found out.
I used Mcguire's polishing compound on a Dremel polishing wheel at low speed and its all gone. The darkish coating came off and its perfect again. Looks brand brand new. I have no idea if it was anti glare, or was supposed to be removed before shipment. The picture quality seems the same.

Nice! I wonder if they added the coating due to the possibility of crack of v20. Not going to attempt to remove mine just yet.
No idea, but so many people are going to return over this issue. This might sink this phone if they don't stop putting this coating on immediately.

With your mention of a coating, it's possible they put an oleophobic coating on the camera lens. I don't understand what else you would put on top of GG4.

I don't know how you guys are getting scratches. I have nada on mine... but I'll keep checking for it over time and maybe catch a shot of it underneath my lamp + magnifier.

Honestly, though I'm not saying you all don't have scratches, stuff like this comes up for just about every phone I've ever used. The last was the Note7 where people were claiming that GG5 was the softest material on planet Earth and scratched on denim. Now people are upset the G6 doesn't have GG5 on the front.
I literally just noticed it today. I also only went 2 days without the case. I thought there was a small piece of packing plastic on it. ?

Dumb question, but is it possible some of you are scratching lens when you have cleaned it with certain materials? For example, a napkin...
It reminds me of that coated feeling when you rub the readable side of a CD. I tried cleaning a game once with a paper towel and it gave it a million scratches which made it unreadable. It's possible this film is just as sensitive?
I have yet to clean my lens with anything but my finger

This surprises me. Mine has scratches as well.This must have happened before I put a case on my phone, and when I sat the phone on a surface with the camera side facing down
. One of the scratches goes across one of the lenses. Bummer.

I have some scratches on mine also. I don't notice a difference in my photos though. Does anyone see any defects in their photos due to the scratches?

I'm curious if it's possible to disassemble the fingerprint scanner/power button without destroying it in the process; specifically separating the metal "rim" surrounding/covering the scanner plate from the rest of the assembly without damaging it.
It's pretty much impossible to figure it out purely from pictures, and it'd be a waste all 'round to buy a shiny new one just to break it.

Aesthetics experiment. The phone I ordered has broken back glass; I figured since I was replacing it anyway, I'd replace some other stuff too and do a two-tone sort of thing.
The camera glass is easy to separate from its trim and get a replacement for, as is the SIM tray...volume buttons are pretty much impossible to get in certain colors though. The fingerprint scanner is the only thing left.

I wouldn't normally look a gift horse squarely in the mouth, but I'm more than slightly curious as to why you have a handful of them :v
Having eyeballed some pictures and watched the rather destructive testing done by Zack/JerryRigEverything in slow motion, I've reached the conclusion that the reader plate is fused to the rim. The entire thing is probably a tub-shaped stamped plate that the scanner is glued into. The thing I want to do is probably not doable in the fashion I wanted to do it. Fortunately I have a plan B.
I wouldn't mind having a couple of spares, since I'm going to have the phone for quite some time (assuming I can get a seller to ship me one that's as-described...). I'll shoot you a PM in a minute.
I think over the last 2 years I've purchased 6 lg v30s. Most of them slightly flawed off eBay for parts and stuff so I have ziplock bags separating phones and their parts. I saw this thread and checked my bag of lg v30 parts I'll no longer be using and I think I have 4 fingerprint sensors fully intact in there. I'm in a giving mood I guess I'll check my messages thanks

The problem is, after removing, the adhesive that held them with back glass will completely unusable so I had to clean that adhesive and replace it with some black B7000 glue. In other hand, the back glass itself only cost around $16 completely with fingerprint/power button and ready to install.

It looks like the scanner plate is a separate piece, but I'm going to guess it's permanently glued down with epoxy or something. My phone arrives tomorrow, so I can poke at it a bit and see if it moves at all.
I have a feeling that even if the plate can be pulled up, it won't be removable due to the ribbon connection. So all this will be for naught anyway :silly:
Thanks for mentioning B7000. I wasn't sure what kind of adhesive would be appropriate for restoring some water resistance, and to be honest I don't have much faith in the pre-fitted double-sided tape included with new backs; B7000 sounds like the kind of stuff I'll want.

When trying to get another screen the replacement screens cost more than damn near just buying 2 complete bad esi or slightly cracked phones. So I figured why pay for a screen when I can buy a complete soonersoft lg v30 for half. I was also experimenting with using silicone sealent to waterproof the back glass.. I feel like I'm being interogated here lol.... Any other questions?? ?

Silicone actually works I've torture tested the sh&t out of it . Ugly and messy but works in case you were wondering ..

I've bought several (more than 7) still being used by family and friends and have not needed to replace anything. But then I always bought "mint" 9/10 or 10/10.

Makes sense. I'd noticed that replacement screens are still pretty expensive, prices haven't come down as much as I would have expected. Kind of drives home that a high-bezel case and screen protector are a good idea if there's any gravel within a mile.

Looks pretty cool, though. I was considering doing a clear-back mod, but I have other things in mind for this round. What kind of coating did they use for the glass coloring; just straight paint, or was it a peel-able layer?
I did think that automotive RTV sealant/gasket-maker would work awesomely for waterproofing, but...being resistant to heat, aren't these silicon-based adhesives considerably harder to pull back apart?

I tried my best to buy a minimally-or undamaged one with an unscratched screen. If there's to be damage to my phone, I want it to be my fault. Unscratched H932-BK/UBKs are rather uncommon, so it took a bit of patience.
The one I've got coming tomorrow is said to have spent all its life in an Otterbox Defender with one of those crappy-but-effective plastic-sticker screen protectors on front. It only has a busted back due to a one-in-a-million impact; toddler enthusiastically ran his head into it while it was in the owner's pocket.
I'm uh...guessing the kid's head is made of granite, as apparently only the phone received damage despite his headbutting it that hard through one of the thickest cases on the market
I haven't tried to pull it apart this particular v30 I wasn't planning on taking it apart if my personal ip rating held up during the tests. I got the idea because my neighbor had one of those face cleaner things called clearsonic pro or something close to that anyway. It was a product sold I think towards the end of the 2008 or so. Designed to be used in water environments and waterproofed for this reason. Her unit stopped working so I volunteered to fix it. I cut it open and replaced the batteries but then had to figure out how to seal it up to be used in a wet environment again . So I bought just regular GE silicone sealant at home Depot and spewed it everywhere threw 4 clamps on it and left it alone. I waited a couple days and then cut the excess off then went to town drenching the cut line with super glue. Waited then dremmel sanded it down and it worked great. As I said I have too much time on my hands. I didn't use caulking silicone just regular silicone.
The only reason I even try this stuff is because the prices for lg v30's that are blemished are dirt dirt cheap now. I didn't touch my first one I think it was 900 or something back a few years

Wrong thread for this but there's no rctd present on my twrp flashed pie stock build and the performance is not great lots of lag compared to Oreo builds any ideas?

Have you tried the extremely dumb LG Bridge trick/fix thing? I believe it mainly helps with memory management, but it seems like I saw a couple people say it also helped Pie not run like crap in general.
This kind of thing is why I'll be sticking with Oreo...in my opinion Pie doesn't have enough compelling new features to justify dealing with the ROM's immaturity, and some of them annoy me (notification handling) or actively piss me off (location settings neuter).

Yea, "if it ain't broke, don't encourage it to break". I can dig it.
I just tried taking it apart and the ring around the scanner surface can be detached, but not the surface itself.

Not at all what I expected...so we have a scanner plate, base plate made out of steel, and then the aluminum anodized ring.
Did it come off easily? Looks like they used the same double-sided tape/gasket that everything else is held together with.
