[Q] G Pad 8.3 vs Nexus 7 2013 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Christmas is coming and I'd like to buy a tablet. It's the first one that I'll get and I'm not sure yet if it's worth buying it. I've got a Samsung Galaxy S II and I'm really happy with it, I think I'll get a new phone next year (Maybe a Nexus device).
So, I can't decide between 2 devices:
-LG G Pad 8.3: it has a bigger screen (I think 8 inch is the perfect size even if I haven't tried it) and a faster CPU (I don't mind SD Slot)
-Google Nexus 7 2013: it's cheaper, smaller and, well, a nexus. I love modding and I'd flash a ParanoidAndroid (it seems there aren't many developers on G Pad 8.3), however I love Nexus devices' instant updates.
I'd choose Nexus 7, but I don't know if the screen is too small for a tablet. I'll use it for movies, games, browsing, and music. Here in Italy G Pad costs 255€, while Nexus 7 (32 GB) is 232€. Has someone got any advice for me?
Sorry for my english!

I would go with the Nexus 7 2013 because it's performance is excellent, plus you mentioned you love device modding and the Nexus 7 2013 has an very active development community, additionally it will have fastest updates as it's a Nexus device. As far as size is concerned 7 inches compared to 8.3 isn't necessarily that much of a difference compared to 7 inches and say 10 inches, but it really is a personal preference. If you do end up wanting the LG G Pad I would recommend taking a look at the Google Play Edition of the device that was just released if it's available on the Italian Google Play Store. Overall I would go with the Nexus 7 2013.

In that case I would still recommend the Nexus 7 2013 .

Discussion Nexus 5 and LG G2

With the announcement of the LG2 i must say it looks like a very nice device sporting 2.3ghz quadcore. I hope that doesn't make the 3000 mAh battery seem pointless with its 5.2 inch display.
I'm just curious though, does anyone of you believe that the Nexus 5 will be based off of the recently revealed LG G2? I find that devices looks great, and while i do understand that some people don't want to move up to 5.2 inch screen, i must say i'm more or less ready to make the move. In the past i could not for one second imagine myself using a 5.2+ inch screen, but recently i just find it makes the browsing, texting and reading a MUCH greater experience.
anyways, what do you guys think?
I hope the next Nexus is made by LG and based of the G2.

The new nexus 7 is called the Google Nexus 7 (2013). The ASUS Google Nexus 7 (2012). So the point he was making is that the name might not go in increments.

The number is screen size. Since new Nexus tablet is still a 7 inch device it was called Nexus 7.
If next Nexus phone comes with a 5 inch screen it so be most likely called Nexus 5.

Yes, of course, that was clear; I was just pointing out that there is also no clear indication of any guideline, so it's all speculative.
I watched the whole thing too and it does look like a great phone but I don't know if I want a 5.2" display phone might be a little big. I don't own a n4 but I do like how it feels on the hand and not too big. Also I wonder how that battery will hold up after seeing all the great battery life everyone gets with the n4 I'm debating whether to wait for the next nexus or get the n4 next month

I will be really mad if the next nexus is a 5 inch screen or if has any of that back button crap. If the make the same phone with a 1080p screen better camera and just a little better battery I'm happy.

and LTE of course!?! that is working from the get-go
With how Qualcomm is handling the situation with AOSP i hope the next Nexus is NOT made from the G2.
The Nexus 5 will be based off the G2. Sadly it will be sexier and more of a beast than the Nexus 4....I really wanted to keep my Nexus 4 for 2 years but damn the Nexus 5 looks like it will violently b!tch slap any other phone on planet earth.
Mad props to LG. To take a beautiful, sexy device like the Nexus 4 and follow it up with a device that clearly trumps it in looks, aesthetic, performance....everyone will be blown away and hooked on the Nexus all over again...

You're asking for a Nexus 4S or a newer Nexus 4. This is about the Nexus 5 ....Every Nexus released has been a significant improvement over its predecessor....not a small step up
Considering how many issues Google has had with Qualcomm when it comes to releasing factory images of devices running Qualcomm chips, I hope it'd use a different SoC.

Really what's the alternative?
Qualcomm has a lock on SoC's at the moment and for the forseeable future. I mean really who else is there? Intel?
Development wise everyone is behind Qualcomm. Not by just a little either. The Snapdragon 800 that powers the G2 will more than likely go untested or unmatched by any competitor SoC until NEXT year....The 800 is a big deal as far as SoC's go.
I'm not sure of this beef Qualcomm has with Google. Don't know much about that.
^^
You have Samsung with their Exynos series.
Edit - ignore
I rather have Exynos but Samsung just doesn't play nice with open source I would love Sammy's new octa core Exynos 5 with new mali-t GPU in new Nexus phone but I think if anything its going in this years Nexus 10 tablet.

Samsung's Exynos? Nope.
The main reason most Exynos powered devices don't have official CM support is because Samsung doesn't release their images. Infact I don't think you can find one Exynos powered device officially supported by AOSP.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 pro powers my N4 and I rather like it. Can somebody explain this mysterious problem between Qualcomm and AOSP? Doesn't make sense
It isnt that much bigger than the nexus 4.
Nexus 4 is 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1mm
LG G2 is 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9mm
Slightly taller by 5 mm, wider by 2mm but slightly thinner.
Also not sure of the power lock button on the back. You could just put your phone on the table and the phone will be turned on. Also getting cases will be odd. I hope they use the normal buttons on the side.

This, its basically like the S4.
What I would be missing in the next Nexus (if its based on G2) would be Wireless Charging
But this hardware + AOSP = LG/Google shut up and take my money (again)

Take good care of your N10

It'll have to last another generation. There's no way in hell I'm bying an Asus device.

Pretty much any time I use it. Unlocking it, opening any app, trying to toggle wifi. It will sometimes freeze for seconds at a time, and the app will usually FC. It's been super frustrating because I don't have any of those issues on the same nightly for my S4.

CM hasn't been good since Gingerbread.. Bloated junk that is at least 9000 miles away from being anything close to AOSP at this point. Drop the zero and get with a hero

Probably i know what ur Problem is. Look up the new trim function of android 4.3. That will probably tackle ur Problem. Basically its sort of fragmentation of the memory. You may factory reset if the problem persists because toggling wifi is such a simple task it should never lag. Cm has no stable 4.3 Version yet. I recommend flaming monkey rom, its lean light and fast (basic aosp with some tweaks). You see the N10 still has the bleeding edge architecture with the A15. There are faster devices but only 2 others or so with that modern architecture

I know I'm causing a risky bump with this one, by I'd like to comment on how the nexus 7 is in fact created by Asus, and happens to be immensely more popular than the Nexus 10. I would question the validity of the notion that the New Nexus 10 will suck just because it's made by Asus.

The Nexus 7 is more popular because of its much lower price, not because of it's manufacturer.

When it comes to design, the N10 really received great remarks from the November 2012 reviewers.
The soft/grippy feeling plastic actually handles great and looks good. The subtly rounded corners and edges has a great feel, no sharp edges that bite into the hands after prolonged handling.
Gave my N7 to my spouse and use the N10 as my daily tab. Been using a friends Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition and it's real nice, but I still like the feel of the N10. Enough that I'm not rushing out to buy the 10.1 2014 edition at this time.

Looking for a new tablet...

I've been looking in to buying myself a tablet, but I want one that's fast and smooth running. Ipad is great because of how smooth it runs and transisittions between pages, but I want something that my S4 can interact with. Any suggestions? I'd like to root and flash ROMs on whatever tablet I end up with so obviously ipad and surface are out. I don't know much about any of the others out there so any help would be fantastic!

One of the new Nexus 7's possibly? It's pretty much universally agreed that it's the best if not one of the best Android tablets on the market right now. Also, it's super easy to unlock the bootloader since it's a Nexus device and the development community around it is huge.

There are actually 2 Nexus tablets on the market right now... the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. The 2013 Nexus 7 is an excellent tablet you can buy directly from the Play Store or other places online. The Nexus 10 is also worth considering if you want a bigger tablet, and it also has the BEST speakers of any tablet on the market. Personally, I'm waiting for them to come out with the "updated" Nexus 10 like they did with the Nexus 7. Either way, as far as Android tablets go, they are both winners. The only other tablet I would recommend taking a look at is the new Samsung Note 10.1 - it has a gorgeous display and all of the productivity power of the Note software and stylus. It's just a little too pricey in my book though.

[Q]Is it worth to buy a Nexus 7 now?

Hey there,
I'm planning to buy my first tablet and I'd love a nexus device as I like modding or the LG G Pad 8.3 (which is only 220€ here on Amazon Italy) but I've heard that a Nexus 8 may come out very soon.
So, what do you guys think? Should I wait for a new device?
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100 utilizzando Tapatalk
Both the n7 2012 and 2013 are still remarkable devices and will have official support for some time to come and also many talented devs that will keep both tabs relevant for years to come.
The nexus 8 is still a rumor as there is back and forth about turning all the nexus line to android silver which won't be the same. If I were to bet we will still see a nexus 8 in the next few months but there's no guarantee, still at least for me, the 7 inch form factor is perfect, I also have a nexus 10 but the n7 is what I use all day.

Is it still a good option?

As nexus 9 is manufactured by htc and there is no more htc products being sold in my country (Samsung literally put htc out of business here) and I will travel to Orlando on the 25th January, I ask you:
Is nexus 9 a solid purchase?
I ask this question because I am struggling to choose between nexus 9 and z3 tablet, so what are your thoughts on this?
I've had bad experiences with the 9 although by far the best tablet I've ever used

I Went from a xoom(on launch day) to a nexus 10(week after launch) to the nexus 9 and am very happy. I thought after years with a 10.1 screen I would hate the smaller screen(i had tried both model nexus 7s) but since I mostly browse the web it pretty much renders text the same size because the nexus 10 in landscape always wastes a lot of screen one each side with blank bars. Very happy with its performace but wouldnt mind a 9.7 screen like the ipad and touchpad but its a great compromise with portability compared to the bezel king nexus 10 and chunky old xoom.
