[Q] 2.3.4 question - Motorola Photon 4G

I have a rooted photon 4g sprint edition running 2.3.4 and i want to know if there are any custom roms that keep 4g. I have not unlocked the bootloader or made any other changes to the phone yet. I have unlocked and rooted a few phoes in the past and had no problems but i have not found a good answer to this problem anywhere. I'm sorry if this is a repetative question but there are too many maybe answers out there. So basically 4g with custom rom yes or no? Please help

There's a thread in Dev section were you use pudding to unlock then relock to regain 4G.

Photon 4G rootable yet?

Has anyone managed to root the Photon yet?
No the phone is apparently locked down tight

I know its too soon but I am not referring to the locked bootloader. Being able to root should work even though its a locked bootloader. Locke bootloader just means you can't load custom roms and make changes to the kernel.
So hopefully someone comes out with a method to root the phone. Even the Atrix was rootable but just couldn't load custom ROMs.
Don't know if this will work yet but the Atrix method suggest that it can be done without unlocking the BL... see:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/index.php/Motorola_Atrix
and for live links to to the images and files (I think). I haven't tried them yet, don't know if they are the same or even right):
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
Seeing that the Atrix recently bad its bootloader unlocked, that might help the devs in finding a method for the Photon.

[Q] How to go back from CM7 to Motorola Original ROM of Atrix?

I have a Motorola Atrix from Orange UK. I unlocked the SIM to use it in India, Unlocked the BootLoader and flashed CM7. Now I want to go back to original Motorola ROM. Is it possible, if yes, HOW? Kindly post other links of this procedure if anybody knows about some way to do it.

Look in the stickies section of Atrix development forum. And find the sbf for unlocked bootloader. Or if u just want the blur UI try the Aura Rom. It has a lot of mods but the theme is basically stock.

You will never get brick by flashing/restoring through recovery.

hey, I think i have the same problem, i have an atrix with cyanogenmod-7-12112011-nightly-olympus, Android version 2.3.7
And i would like to know if its posible to get the original settings if I back up another atrix from the same carrier (telcel - MExico), so i can get rid of the cyanogen and i can have it with factory settings.
If its posible, can anyone help me and tell me how to do it?

[Q] Rooting att atrix 4G 2.3.6

my friend wants me to root his atrix 4g which is running android version 2.3.6 stock. And his phone has never been rooted and the bootloader is still locked. I know that I would have to unlock the bootloader. But how would I go about rooting it after I've unlocked bootloader? please someone help
Ps. Already have moto drivers installed because I have a moto xoom

If you are gonna unlock the bootloader, then you would probably be looking to load a custom ROM. That's really the only reason for unlocking the BL.
After your BL is unlocked, many custom ROMs (like CM7) come with root privileges already...

Yes im planning to flash a custom rom. So I could just unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and then flash a custom rom that is pre-rooted?
Because that's what I did when I rooted my xoom.

i just got a warranty replacement, and it had 2.3.6 on it.
i had to do alot of research. they have a rooting guide via adb on the atrixforum website
and the automatic bootloader unlock in the atrix development thread in xda works.
due note that alot of the NEW atrix's with 2.3.6 dont have the ability to flash sbf, which means the bootloader is unable to be unlocked. Mine worked, so i might have just been lucky

I wonder why Motorola would do such a thing unless they had some sort of contract agreement with the carriers?
All I know is when the BL code leaked, Motorola scrambled insanely fast to try and cover that up, but it was too late. Truth be told, if the BL code never got leaked I would have sold my phone a long time ago. IDK, for me personally I'm probably gonna make it a personal requirement for all my future phones to have BL unlocked before purchasing...

Flashing

Hi, guys could anyone give me instructions as how to flash the Motorola Atrix 4G At&T. I have rooted it. Its currently on 2.3.6 build 4.5.141. What is the best way to flash. I do not want to risk bricking. Could anyone tell me what is the advantages of a unlocked bootloader and how do I unlock it.
Any help will be appreciated

To flash ROMs, you got to unlock the bootloader first... Search the archive on how to unlock the bootloader.

Hi i have been searching and there are quite a few different threads all giving different methods. I don't know which one to follow
Here you go. READ absolutely everything before you attempt to do anything. Be patient and do not freak out if something goes wrong. You will not brick your phone if you follow the instructions.

Poll: Unlocked or Locked bootloader?

Hi guys!
Just want to know how many of us have a locked bootloader.
For the ones who do, good luck
My bootloader is unlocked but unfortunately I am stuck here because my phone is on the OTA (wierd I know) and I can't really do anything with the unlocked bootloader. So, here I sit with an unlocked phone and no 4G and nothing I can do except TRY to relock it and possibly brick it.........
Does the official Motorola bootlock removal tool work on the photon, and does it now allow 4G on custom roms? http://m.lifehacker.com/5935837/mot...-bootloader-unlocking-tool-for-android-phones

the official motorola site says that only the Photon Q will be supported at first, then more devices to follow. No one knows if this will be retro-active towards existing devices. I would assume that if this does get implimented on our Photon 4g, then wimax will not be borked like it is now.

I tried it just for fun. The Photon rejected "fastboot oem get_unlock_data" stating 'unknown.'
To answer the OP's question...

Unlocked runnning ICS AOKP Milestone Build 4
I unlock-relock constantly. Just this morning I was locked, then I unlocked to try something, then relocked 2 hours later. Once you unlock, if you go back to locked, it's easier to unlock again than it was to start with because you don't have to do the fastboot commands with the unlock code. Just run the derpunlock.sbf again and push your recovery of choice and you're done.

latest OTA deceived me :crying:
Sprint and Motorola are pushing Photon 4G out of USA and selling it to Countries like India through ebay just because they are introducing LTE! in US.
I do not understand why they want to lock those phones (selling for about US$600 in India)?
MOTO and Sprint should think about it. If you dont want it anymore and don't support it outside US why locking it and making the life of poor souls miserable?
They should release a 2.3.5 sbf to help those people outside US stuck with Failed to boot 2 / Electrify 2.3.5.
Was locked by accident but traded for unlocked Electrify
You 2.3.5 chaps may be in luck

hasn't been confirmed working on any one elses phone, but he showed a screen shot and it looks like he's done it.
