[Q] I know this is dumb, but how do i get a new rom?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Prolly been asked numerous times but cant seem to find anything on it. I spent about 5 hours today just rooting my phone because instructions are never clear and i had to do trial and error before i finally got it, so i am by no means an expert!
I have a verizon lg g2 and am wanting to put the malladus 1.2.2 rom on it but have absolutely no clue how!
Directions say flash rom, but i have no clue what that even means. I have done this back in the day 3 times to my original galaxy s and got it but the directions were clear.
do i have to get e recovery program? i read something about that and also a clockworkmod or something?
So if someone could or would have the patience to explain to me step by step what needs done, i would GREATLY appreciate it. Like i said, all i have done is rooted it and i downloaded the malladus 1.2.2, the lg apps, and the gapps that it said i needed but dont know where to go from there.

I have made sure the name matches the img file in my folder and everything yet still nothing!! PLEASE HELP!! im going on 9 hours now messing with this and have got o where

well thanks to all your help or lack there of, i now have a bricked phone because no one wants to tell me anything or help. Thanks

Not everyone here has a Verizon LG G2, You should have come to the IRC and directed your questions there first and been more patient if you're unfamiliar with these sort of things. Your bricked phone is no ones fault but your own, sorry.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app

You're welcome. You asked for help, chose not to wait so you went ahead and did it - and failed. Yes, that's our fault. You shouldn't do things you have NO clue about. The first thing you should do is to READ. If you can't find the things you need, then SEARCH. There are over 5 million registred users here, so your questions have most likely been asked several times before, i.e they are here and you can search for them.

Dude, this is not a user support forum and no one is sitting around waiting for someone like yourself to ask questions that can only be answered by doing research that you should be doing yourself. You and only you are responsible if you bricked your device.
If you want help, your chances are higher if you post in your device specific forum, provide enough detail for people to know exactly what you did so they can provide accurate advice, and then be patient and wait for as long as it takes. Or you could do your own research and figure it out.

Funny, i didnt brick my phone, just was curious as to how many people would decide to talk if it meant they could get rude with me lol
And i posted where i thought i was supposed to, i couldnt find my phones forum. Sorry, and i DID read, i have been reading non stop, the advice just isnt working.
I tried flashify after reading that it worked (on here) and it said it did but after reboot i just get a dead droid and have to hold down vulume key and power to get it back on and recovery or download startup dont work now!
I am not impatient and i understsand im not the center of everything, just figured someone could chime in with some advice, but i guess its only worth typing if you have something unhelpful to say!

Hey guys I recently got the Amaze (2 days ago). When I got it, it was on GB but I went to T-mobile to get a new sim and the guy updated my phone to ICS. Now ive tried rooting it but it does not work, i tried with the all tool kit program and the one click root. IS their anything I am doing wrong? Also do I have to be in recovery mode or can I be at the home screen? Debugging is on.
The only thing I can tell your doing wrong is your not reading enough. There is an Amaze Bible. There are How To Root Tutorials. It's been asked multiple times.
I haven't used All In One (AIO) Tool Kit but I think there's a Tutorial.
Sorry..its just frustrating coming to a forum and everyone ask the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over......you catch my drift?

If you searched the word "root" in my thread, there are many posts mentioning that it does not work and I said I was gonna eventually fix it.
On other terms, flash this in recovery
Try the tool kit again, note that you have to install a custom recovery before trying to root via the tool kit, once you have a custom recovery, boot into recovery then hit the root option, it should ask you to press enter once you're in recovery, do this and you shall be rooted.

As mentioned below, this might not be working for everyone. It pushed all the files for me but did not result in root. Flashing the superuser zip linked below is what finally worked for me.

On a separate note,
I very much appreciate the help that can be received here and there quite a few tutorial threads. The problem I think some people have, including me, is that what is written doesn't always make sense to those who don't live and breathe android. I'm fairly tech savvy (have built computers, know basic bash scripting, and have spent excessive amounts of time troubleshooting and hacking in Linux) but instructions like "flash stock RUU in hboot" don't make much sense until you've spent a lot of time reading.
Hasoon's tool is very close to what is needed. Hopefully whatever issue there is with the root option can be fixed. Or maybe it's just a matter of better understanding of how to use it.

Google is your friend. I taught myself many things from Google before I asked a question. If I am TRULY stuck, I'll ask a question.
Look at the threads I made, I rarely ask a question because I found it from Google.
You can learn a lot by yourself and just searching stuff online. Not that hard lol

I completely agree. I've taught myself tons about programming and such using Google, but you also have to have enough background knowledge to know what to look for and recognize when you find it. I've mostly asked questions here but it wasn't until I did a lot searching and trying things. Eventually, when something doesn't work you can stop and ask a question or keep messing around. In the later case, you either brick the phone or become one of the experts (after bricking the phone ).
Problem with google is that it often points to a thread here which invariably results in someone new asking a question that's been asked before. Happens in all forums.

OX+ need help flashing.

Ok, you know, today I got my phone, I had been waiting forever, I got it and within 2 hours I screwed it up. I have followed and followed many forums and posts on how to fix this, and I am just.. lost. So please i need your help, I am seriously stressing out, and I know I shouldnt, but this is my first android phone. I am shot right now.
I had unlocked the bootloader, and then I tried to root it, then it rebooted and went into bootloop mode or whatever it is.
I still cannot figure out how to use this Hasoons2000's OX+ AIO kit. So I am just leaving it alone.
Ok the PC doesn't recognize it as a storage device, but the fastboot does recognize it, as I have executed a few commands, like reboot or something, just to test that it works.
My phone is ATT but I am in Russia so there is no sending this anywheres. All I want to do is reboot the OS and have it work again, I dont care what mod or stock rom it is, I just really need some direction here.
I know something about RUU, ATT RUU, Fastboot, some other stuff, I have like 5 pages on XDA pulled up and I cant figure this out.
What is the CMW or TWRP or whatever it is called? How do I flash a zip or an img to the phone? I really just want my phone on again.
Yes Ive done stupid noob stuff, but you learn. So please I am kindly asking for any assistance,
No need to stress. Its fairly hard to brick your phone, good way to learn quick also is to screw with it.
Just need the right guide and I think this will help you since u have fastboot access hopefully. Its a pain rebuiling so read everything so u only have to do it once.
Remember these guides are for different phones so don't use the ruu or recovery links, user my links below.

thank you very much I really appreciate your help. I finally figured out the ruu.exe thing, I didnt know they had to be the same numbers, ex 1.15.xxx.xx or whatever.
You see what happened originally was that I unlocked the bootloader, easy pie, but I tried to root it and that is when it started looping. Maybe I didnt understand something, but I seemed to have messed up right there.
Is there really any reason to root? I mean yeah there is super user, but doesnt bootloader help with that a bit? I know BL is for flashing custom roms and all.
May I ask how to flash a custom rom? I really want all of this ATT stuff off of my phone, I really dislike it.
Yes I know I can search, here, google etc. And maybe I should, but I end up getting so many different results, and here and there, and this and that. It really is just easier to talk to one single person who knows what they are doing. So if you could help me, I would again extend my appreciation.
Also I have the android revolution for ox+, and I dont know if it is.. you know.. THE BEST or not. Dont know what to do.
And yes, you live and learn, took me forever with iphones, then I realized hacking and roms and stuff were completely different from iphone. So new game new story.

[Q] HTC ONE stock recovery

Hello everybody, I turned to Google to try and resolve my issue on my own but after countless hours of reading I have been lead here to this awesome informative site. I don't have any experience in flashing roms or jailbreaking ios but have done alot of reading and seem to understand some. So here's my story and I sure hope someone can help me along.
I bought an HTC ONE T Mobile branded off Criagslist for 400 bucks , thought it was a good deal being that it came from a T Mobile employee. I felt comfortable during the transaction and the seller seemed like a good guy. So after a few days with the phone which I absolutley love I checked for any updates and sure enough there is an update available. So I downloaded it and tried to install. The phone reboots into clockwork recovery. Now It has the stock rom on it but he left Clockwork recovery instead of stock. Now here's my problem, I assume after speaking with some friends that the phone will be fine as long as I don't apply any updates. I would love to have the stock recovery on so I can update when needed. I apologize in advance for my newbiness and hope someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks all. Jeff
Here is a stock recovery I found here a few days ago.

THANKS Slapshot52. But what do I do with it? I don't want to sound like an idiot but like I said I have no idea what I'm doing. I can follow directions rather well. Should I follow the link with my phone and download it? Then unzip? Will it override the clockwork recovery? Sorry for all the questions, I don't want to end up with a paper weight. Thanks. Jeff

[info]custom recovery progression

so i had this thought. we talk alot in the "rom's" thread about the progression of the custom recovery.
although my phone is on servide and i cant do much ar this point but i hope i get it back in a couple of weeks.
but my thought was this.. everyone here should post all files they can to make this work.
what they have tried and what did not work so people dont have to try it again.
whos working hard on this and what theire progression is, or if anyone can post files that could work and perhaps some tutorials for it.
i think that would be better then to update this OP and write everything down that have been tried and so on.
it was just a thought to make this work out its best way. ive been sending PM's to som developers and asked if they could give me some tutorials on this but non has answeres yet. ive been trying alot of different adb reboot commands, nothing work. i also was that stupid and tried autorec for lg g2 and that bricked my phone HARD so dont ever try that.
Loki is the key for this phone, I don't think that anything else works.

Ok
I used twrp 2.7.0.0-gardaltetmo.tar. The flashed a supers u update -v 1.94.zip, then I wanted to know how to unroot incase I needed to know and used SGH-t399-stock-MJA.ZIP

Don't use T-Mobiles firmware on your MetroPCS phone.
This is what you need to do.
And for the love of all that is good in this world, next time DO A BACKUP before flashing things. You installed TWRP, which gives you the ability to make a complete backup of your system exactly as it is at that point in time. If you had done a back-up before you screwed up your phone, it would have taken you but a few minutes to unscrew it.
I apologize for being harsh, but it seems to me like you really need to read and research a lot more. I always (well, usually...almost bricked my tablet the other day) read everything I can find about something potentially risky before doing it. Let this be a learning experience for you. Read as much as you can, understand what it is you are actually doing rather than just following some guide, and if you don't understand, just ask. I and most of us here would rather you asked a noobish question instead of going blindly ahead and screwing your phone up. Playing around with root and recovery and flashing without understanding it is like thinking you can perform open heart surgery with a meat cleaver because you've seen every episode of ER, Scrubs, and Grey's Anatomy.
thanks

Hm. I didn't think about that. I think you might need to get an SD card. Go on Amazon or eBay and pick one up. An 8GB one can be had for literally a few bucks, but a 64GB class 10 one for $35 is an awesome thing too.

You can always use Samsung Kies 3 to flash your phone back to stock. You need your serial number though, and for some reason it is not printed on the back of the device(at least for me). A call to tech support should get that sorted anyway.
Alternatively, you can do this with Odin to a very similar effect. Search Google for something like "T399NUVUANK3 tar" to get the file you need, my personal backup is corrupt so I can't share.

Ugh... I own a t399n and I'm doing some real development on it. . I've made a stock odex and deodexed rooted zip files for the t399n and haven't posted them yet. . If you're in a bad way still hit me up and I'll have you up and running in no time. Fun things coming for metro users. Who says you have to pay for a high end device to have a high end device? He he he....
Do you have a backup I bicked my samsung galaxy light metropcs then I unbricked it by restoring a backup for the samsung galaxy light that I found online. Search fresh backup for samsung galaxy light sgh t399n.

I just love getting an email alert at 4am because someone quoted me to post absolutely nothing of substance.
It's relevant because IT WAS A YEAR AGO! I don't remember why I was so cranky that day. I did apologize to him for it. Did you notice that I also still did my best to help him? Do you have a solution to his problem? Does he even still have this phone, given that it was a year ago? If you want to fixate on my posts, fixate on the hundreds of times I've been thanked for helping others, especially going above and beyond helping people find the perfect device for them. I'm not here to be grumpy, I'm here to help people, and get help when needed. Why are you here? To pester me? Look, I respect my elders, and you're clearly older, but at the same time don't presume to talk down to me. Try reflecting on yourself and your motive in making a useless post, bumping a thread dead for several months (a severe breach of netiquette), purely to insult another member.
Come to think of it, my email alert wasn't because I was quoted (I have that feature turned off). I got the alert because I'm still subscribed to this thread, having done so in case there were new posts that might enable me to help the OP. I suppose I should unsubscribe, giving the fact that nobody has posted anything of use or substance in 7 months or so.
