Looking for Glass screen protector suggestion or even a normal one if that is better - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Since owners have had the phone a for a bit longer now, I would like some feedback on those screen protector choices you have made.
Basically what I want is the common things:
*As invisible as possible.
*Smooth feeling to the touch is preferred.
*easy to apply is a plus
*I prefer to not remove the sony one already there.
So I was looking at M.glass, other ebay glass ones and then my usual choices like Zagg HD the case friendly version for the plasticky ones.
So what is working out for you guys?

I bought one off of ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/261323055474?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. It feels nice when you put it on. I got something stuck under it though so if you are installing one make sure your phone is perfectly clean. I like the feel of it better than the normal screen. It was hard to install well for me but probably not as hard as I made it out to be. I had it perfect but removed it to get the thing from under it out and that is where things went wrong.

Thats my problem too when installing myself..always some dust gets in somehow. I am thinking on trying to install inside the bath tub or something after running the how water for like 10 minutes to see if that helps...seriously lol

i have the Armorz Stealth Extreme R on mine. a bit on the pricey side but i love it. I also have one of the ebay ones for the back glass. both were put on over the stock sony screen protectors. on the back piece, i actually soaked the back of the screen with a spray bottle before applying it. It was a pain in the ass pressing out all the bubbles, but it looks flawless after a bit of elbow grease.

I have Glass-M front+back for mine and I absolutely love it. (Removed factory ASF as well). My notes
* It is really smooth. Like freshly made toffee it is so smooth it feels faintly greasy (but it is not). On an almost completely flat table the phone will slowly slide across the surface by itself due to a slope you can't see (be careful)
* I believe touch sensitivity is improved. Finicky DPI sliders in Paranoid Android setups give me no trouble now - before jumping 239,243,241 when I really want 240 dpi exactly. Pencil also works perfectly as a stylus.
* I believe screen brightness and clarity are improved. Subjective and probably due to removal of the ASF (and its invisible tiny scratches)
* Extra glass makes the phone a bit thicker but also much stiffer and I liked this. I also have a Z1 and I miss how solid that phone felt in my hand. Ultra always felt a bit too flimsy (bendy). I also had to widen the slot on my DK30 (sandpaper glued to a flat stick aka big emory board)
* Getting alignment correct is tricky - glass-M slightly smaller than the phone screen edges. Mine went on crooked but I can live with that.
* No dust or bubbles in mine. Used the shower trick of old school film photographers. Long hot steamy shower will effectively clean the room of even tiny dust particles.
* Removing the ASF is a truly harrowing experience (see the other thread). Halfway through you *will* have an "Oh God what have I done" moment. Still totally worth it.
Hope my ramble helps someone. In summary really happy with the Glass-M. :good:

Haha yeah I took it off and it made it way worse... ended up being a waste of money which has been happening a lot since my phone had been sent back for repair. I have wasted so much money. But yeah I bought another one and got it a couple of days ago but have not opened it. I will install it right when my phone gets back.

So when you guys go dual glass (front and back I mean) do you just carry it without a case? I mean, when I remove mine from the case it just feels SOOOO good to hold, like the case makes it feel not as ergonomic even though you will think is just one flat object

Glass-M Front+Back and I carry mine "au naturel". Four weeks of sliding in and out of pocket + keys, coins, cig. lighter etc with no marring or scratches. Seriously it feels way better in my hand than the factory finish: smoother, bit thicker (2x 0.25mm glass + adhesives is a lot on a 6.5mm phone), and far more solid. Absolutely love its handling after placing the extra glass.
Downsides are metal sides will eventually pick up scratches and dents and also I don't like the proximity sensor cutout: messes with the Sony design and makes it look like everybody else's iPhone/Samsung/whatever with slots cut into the front of the phone. I don't believe the cutout is necessary for that sensor to work. (could be wrong about that)

yup. I carry it without a case now. feels super classy. picked up some weight from the dual glass but I'm not worried about scratching the screen compared to using the phone fresh out of the box.

Ah you guys are going to make me join the nudist colony!
Well I got too many cases already on the way but they will live in the car to be used when required, but for the most part I love the feel of it naked....and we are still talking about phones just before someone locks the thread

Does the glass go all the way to the edges of the phone? Like if I use one of those cases that go just above the screen (if those will even fit which I doubt) will it make the glass come off?
I guess I should just not use a case but gosh I bought a couple of nice ones already LOL

Thats a very nice looking case...I just wish they would have left the charging port open..kind of strange they did not make a cut for that :/
Well, I guess I use it without a case at home and at work right now anyway since with my case it wont fit on the DK30 but still, if I were to use a single cable, that case wouldnt let me charge.

I modified the case to leave opening for magnetic charging port. some use a dremel. I used a razor blade. came out looking how it was supposed to be, but since I got the back glass, I don't use it anymore. lol

yeah maybe I bought cases for decoration now LOL We shall see.

I just thought of one possible issue if I get the Glass-M vs getting a single one for the screen only....I want to get one of those extended batteries case combinations.
So if I get that, I am pretty sure it wont fit with the Glass-M but maybe it will fit if I only get one glass for the front?

I'm getting my glass-m protectors today. I'll post my opinion tomorrow some time

Cool!
I got one of the front glass only protectors from ebay. Still waiting for it to arrive to see if I can deal with it.
I should have gotten the Glass M but I dont feel like modding the DK30 which I will probably have to do anyway

Got my Glass-M protector yesterday put it on this morning. It works great. Its' pretty comparable to the spigen tr I had on my S4 maybe a littler thinner. It includes the front and back glass protectors, rear camera cutout was perfect. The front appears to cover the camera. There is a cutout for something to the left of the camera but I'm not really sure why. Maybe I am misunderstanding the layout? Luckily it laid down well enough that its not causing any distortiong.
It actually feels nicer and seems more fingerprint resistant than the stock bare screen with its ASF film. It's an expensive kit but considering both front and rear protectors are glass it seems like its worth the money to me.
Shipping was also really fast considering it came from hong kong....about 5 days.

So I ended up trying this glass one:
Protector
The feeling and quality of the image is so pristine compared to my previous regular plastic like protector!
I did have to sand paper the DK30 a bit to make it fit but all is good. I still can use all my cases if needed and I left the plastic protector for the back part.
So overall, I think I will keep this one because with the dual Glass M ones, I dont think my cases will work nor the Charging case combo I want.
With the size of this phone and the Explosion proof glass...I feel like Captain America now

Thanx its ordered
thanks, i ordered too!!!
Count me in as well...
Bought one last night
I purchased a few screen protectors off eBay.... and NONE of them actually cover the entire surface of the screen.
This looks pretty amazing!
But I must say that it feels a bit strange to spray the fluid on the back of the protector and then squeeze it out, can't this fluid get into the earphone, speaker and around the buttons below the screen?
this doesn't look bad, but i think i'll stay with my Brando screen protector, which imo is cool enough, and will get a rubber-ish backplate as soon as one with a correct price will appear.
I have been searching for a skin like this for my Diamond2. I have read that this Zagg skins all have a orange coat on top that makes a very undesirable effect. Any one can confirm this?
And what about phantom skynz? They provide full body protection, but the model for the D2 its not available yet ...

Just ordered.
Thank you bro!
Just installed the InvisibleSHIELD...
I just installed the invisibleShield I ordered from Zagg a few days ago. Installation was a little tricky, but using the solution made it easy(ish). I used a lot more spray than they recommended, but took the battery/sim/SD card out first. I left it drying for 12 hours, and everything switched on fine.
My advice to anyone getting this is to watch some installation vids on YouTube.
I bought it for the screen protector really as I am very clumsy with other WM phones in the past.
The main issue I have, which is a major one, is that the kit for the Diamond 2 is actually 7 pieces which you install piece by piece. Some of these pieces (like the brushed metal pieces on the edge) are very thin and warp easily. I thought when I purchased this that the screen piece would be one part, where the edges would 'fold' around the sides. This is NOT the case. As a result, the actual edges are not covered at all. These pieces don't meet to form a solid shield, but leave gaps between the edges. I have included some pictured to highlight this.
The actual effect on the screen is ok. The screen is bubble-less, but there is a slight sheen on the front. When the screen is on, its not noticable. Also, the shield is a little 'tacky' - not a lot, but it does help feel more snug in your hand. However, for the same reason, the touch screen (when using a stylus) it doesn't feel as smooth as without.
My overall opinion is that if you are looking for something to stop scratching the screen then its great, but if you are looking for something to make your phone indestructible, look elsewhere.
So you bought the protection that coveres the entire phone?
I'm planning to buy the cover for the display only, was the display cover hard to get in place?
agento
7 pieces....so you have 1 piece for backplate,2 in front and 4 for the sides?
Is that correct?
Thanks for sharing the info. Does the IS make it difficult to get the backplate off?
Does it make the front, back or sides feel or look noticeable different?

There is the front piece, the back piece, 2 thin strips for the sides and 2 small rectangles for the bottom side near the stylus. So 6, not 7. I can't count!

No, the IS covers the back plate, but it doesn't wrap over the sides. The back slides off just as easy as ever.

The front just looks like a normal screen protector. The back looks glossier. The touch though, as stated earlier, is slightly tackier. The only thing is the gaps where the IS doesn't meet.
Not trying to bum you out, but... the pictures you posted show a pretty messy device. Doesn't have a "clean" look anymore, is this because of the ZAGG?

Screen protectors suck on the Lumia. Here's the solution.

So I've been using my Lumias for a while with a Skinomi screen protector. These are probably the best options for a screen like the one on the Lumia: the curved design makes regular plastic screen protectors (the only ones with a decent look and feel) useless on this phone, you can't even set them up properly; on the other hand, wet application screen protectors suck really bad: they have that orange peel look and feel, they give you that horrible feeling when swiping and look terrible in sunlight, Skinomi is no exception.
This got me thinking. I decided to go without a screen protector on my 400+ € piece of hardware. Am I just a mad man? Not quite (IMHO), here's why: gorilla glass can be scratched, that is for sure, but you're most likely to get only really thin scratches in the coating (given that you're careful), which can be 100% hidden with a wet application screen protector. So why would you go for one in the first place when your screen is still pristine, when you can still actually enjoy it? When you'll have the feeling that it's getting too much scratched you'll still be able to get a protector and have a fresh start.
What do you guys think? Do you still use protectors on your Lumias? Do you enjoy "freedom" instead? Please let me know. Maybe I'm just too OCD and crazy, but this phone and its amazing curved glass is giving me a lot of headaches. How do you deal with it?

You're not mad, haha! You're just like me, I have a crap one on mine, I really didn't want to put a screen protector on, usually I'm good with my phones, but strangely, on the first day that I bought the Lumia, I managed to put a faint scratch on it, and that cheesed me off. So I put a half-ass martins on. Which is ok.
I've got a skinomi, and I've yet to put it on, I haven't ever put a wet screen protector on any of my phones, now based on your review, I don't want to. So I'm stuck on whether I should bother with putting one on or just taking it off completely and allowing the thin scratches.
p.s. phone currently at Nokia care centre...
Glad to see I'm not that weird Btw what do you mean by martins, maybe Martin Fields? I saw one of those on Expansys but apparently it doesn't cover the whole screen, so it will probably peel off easily like all of the non wet ones...
i didn't use a screen protector on my lumia - actually i've never used a screen protector before (i just know i'll put it on badly).
i also found the rubber-ish case provided is terrible for keeping your phone clean. somehow dust gets underneath it and just makes the phone look horrible.

Actually I think that the original case gets way less greasy than the phone itself (assuming you have the black one), the white one is a fingerprint magnet, but it's glossy so it's very easy to wipe...I also tried a few tpu cases, but they even make things worse.
The lumia it's a fantastic phone with a fantastic Gorilla Glass and a fantastic polycarbonate unibody, why you need to put something on this phone to protect it ???

Maybe because you want it to stay beautiful for longer than a couple months
I've never used screen protector with 3 gorilla glass phones during 2 year time period and not a single scratch.
I've not bothered with a screen protector on mine due to the curves, and the screen is still pristine, although I never keep anything in my pocket with it.
Screen protectors sucks on every phone! I rather take a few scratches than using a protector that takes away all the good feelings from the touch.
In fact I already got a small small scratch. Doesn't bother me as much as a screen protector would though.
I'm using a Zagg screen protector (wet application) on mine. At least it adhered properly around the curved screen. Yes, it does feel different than the naked screen, but that is not necessarily a bad feeling. My $0.02
Well, right now I don't have one on. I have tried every brand, Skinomi, Zagg, Martin Fields and even some cheap one from eBay, but no luck: they either don't stay on at all or look crap with their orange peel effect. Wet ones are even worse: if a grain of dust gets underneath when you install them it gets stuck and you can't take it away by any mean, even washing them doesn't help. I ordered a Gadgetshieldz protector because I heard they're the best ones, but if it doesn't satisfy me I'll keep going naked, I'm sick of this crap, I just wanna enjoy the phone
Don't worry about the scratches guys. It's just the Oleophobic coating.
Anyway to hide those scratches, apply a small amount of clear car wax and wipe it off.
That coating does a great job by the way... my screen gets less finger-printy than previous phones.

Yeah it's actually doing great. When you swipe It feels like you're not even touching the phone, it seems like a gesture more than a touch input. The SGSII I had before had a pretty smooth screen when naked, but it didn't even come close. Maybe the curved glass is helping increasing that feeling too. Day after day the idea of putting on a screen protector on this baby sounds more and more like murder. I guess I'll still be using one of those zagg-like protectors when I go to the seaside tho, sand can still screw up everything. The Gadgetshieldz thing I'm getting will help me through that I guess...
I'm not using a screen protector on my Lumia 800.
When I bought my phone, I wanted to; especially because I had 2 mini scratches on the screen within 24 hours of purchase.
Although it would be nice to have one, it's a bit of a hassle so I decided not to go out of my way to get one. I just try to be careful with my phone and the only cover I am using is the one provided for the body, but I'm even thinking about removing that.

I'd like to go completely naked too, but given the form factor of the back I'd probably screw up the camera. As far as I can tell the glass on the Lumia is behaving pretty well, however you're still gonna get a few scratches in the coating in no time, regardless how careful you are. Honestly it doesn't bother me at all tho: the very tiny marks on the coating are only visible under a strong light, looking very closely at the phone which has to be sitting at a very special angle. With a screen protector I would get much bigger and annoying scratches, plus the hideous orange peel effect, which makes the screen really look and feel like garbage. I repeat, I can't murder such a beautiful design that way. I only hope that I won't get BIG scratches, those ones able to create that horrible rainbow effect. This is probably the only thing that would suck even more than a screen protector, but I'm not just careful, I'm literally obsessed with my phone, so it's highly unlikely to happen. Only rubbing sand at full force on the screen should have such consequences...fingers crossed

I got one of those but it's SMALL. Like 2mm long fairly deep as yo can easily feel it if I want to but its sitting at the edge of the screen on the right side so I never notice it in my daily use. As I said earlier. I rather take those scratches than using a protector as it would bother me more than the scratches I get. Gorilla glass is good but it's no miracle glas by any means.
I managed to drop my brand new phone on the gravel (thank God it's my work phone) and got a really, really bad scratch that really annoyed me so I decided to get a screen protector so I wouldn't make everything worse.
I first ordered a Skinomi and while the fit was pretty decent I screwed up badly when putting it on and I wasn't about to order another one from the US. So I decided to try Copter (Swedish only brand I think?)
While it is originally for the N9 with a cut out in the bottom for the sensor it was in my opinion much, much better. It is a bit smaller then the actual screen but it is so thin, 0,178 mm, that I can barely notice it unless some dust get stuck to the edges.
There is a slight drag when using it compared to no protector but you just have to lighten up your touch and you won't notice. There is no orange peel affect at all and the best thing is that the bad scratch is gone, completely!
I would prefer not having a screen protector at all but since I know I'm clumpsy and will most likely scratch my screen even more I can highly recommend Copter. (If you can get it) In my oppinion it feels and looks ton better then Skinomi. My GF has a Zagg on here phone and in my oppinion that is crap in comparisson, thicker, more drag and an orange peel effect.
Sounds good, thanks for the tip. Anyway I could only find it here http://www.teknikmagasinet.no/db.pl...&title=Copter Displayfilm Nokia N9/Lumia 800&
But actually I don't understand a word so I really don't know wether they ship to my country or not :/
@dannejeanne: ouch, sorry to hear that. How did you manage to put that scratch on it? Did you drop it? If it can scratch that way without a particular reason this kinda sucks...

Really want to order a z ultra gpe due to price drop and have 7 million questions

Okay maybe I only have 2 questions lol
First off I currently have a note 3 and am as happy as I've ever been with a phone. It does it all, blazing fast, multi window, a feature to shrink the screen for one handed use, great battery life, stylus, and a bunch of dumb features crammed in software wise that I don't care for but who knows, maybe I'll use one of them someday and appreciate it. Nothing wrong with them being there when I can turn them off.
However, I STILL HATE TOUCHWIZ. It makes me want to jab my eyes out whenever I look at it or hear that stupid water droplet sound. I am running a touchwiz 4.4 build, so its the best touchwiz you can get on a phone currently and I still hate it. This is my main motivation for wanting to switch. (On a side note have you guys seen the touchwiz build for the new note tablets? Wow, what a beautiful build they have. If thats a sign of things to come then touchwiz will finally get away from the crap software that looks like it came from the playskool factory). I also think the build quality is just average, although the best I've seen from samsung yet.
The build quality on the sony is literally on another level and with the water proofing and dust resistence it really is a work of art. That coupled with stock android and it seems that you can't go wrong with this phone.
Or can you? One thing the note 3 does beautifully is the multi window feature and use of a gesture to shrink the screen down when wanting to quickly select buttons you normally wouldn't be able to reach with one hand. I went looking for similar features for the xperia because I just can not live without them now that I have them. I found an exact xposed module match for the multi window and from the reviews its flawless or pretty close to it. I wasn't able to find the shrink screen gesture but I did find another xposed module that will allow you to move portions of apps down the screen more so that you can access info more easily with one hand. It just uses padded areas to move things down. Not as good as what the note offers but its something. These two litte things and the advantages of stock android are all I need as far as the software goes.
As for the hardware, you lose half the onboard storage, a gig of ram, an IR blaster, a small amount of battery, and an LED flash. Stock android probably negates the loss of ram because bloated touchwiz probably consumes that as soon as you boot the phone up. The LED flash is probably used twice a year for me, I've never used the IR blaster, and I have a memory card and cloud storage for those needs.
Heres the ONLY thing I need form the community. I see people posting a lot about how amazing the phone is and how they got used to the size within 3 days and it's awesome and this and that. These people also had only had the phone for a week or two so the excitement hadn't worn off yet and they are probably blinded by new-device-ism. What I would love is if someone who has had this phone for over 6 months can comment on the size. I am particularly concerned with it fitting in my front jeans pant pocket. I won't use a case so it will just be the bare phone. Right now my note 3 is seriously pushing the limits. It fits but when I sit down the top of the phone is actually touching my lower abdomen because the pockets aren't deep enough to accomodate the whole phone. I don't want this thing jamming into my side every time I sit down. Also I am mildy concerned about flexing the phone and breaking the screen. Thats honestly the only two concerns I have with it.
Let me know what you think!
I had mine since september.
Okey about pocket. DO NOT sit down with your phone in the pants pocket. Just don't. Either the device will bend or the glass will brake.
IF the phone is sitting tight in the pocket when standing up, DO NOT walk. Take the device out or it will bend or break the glass.
The front and back WILL eventually get scratched because there is a plastic sheet on both sides. Without this the phone is nearly unable to be scratched. I just got my first tiny tiny scratch on the front last week. Its so tiny you can barely see it. The hardness is of the glass is like sapphire glass!
And what you wrote about the size. Just like they say. Once you buy this you'll never go back. Literally.

Well if I can't walk around with it in my pocket then I may not purchase it. Thats my only means of carrying it around with me. We will have to see what happens I guess. And I wonder what the deal is with the plastic sheets, thats kind of lame. I see that people are removing them to expose the glass underneath, but then they lose the oleophobic coating and it will probably be a disgusting fingerprint magnet.

Yes it is a fingerprint magnet. However I purchased G1 & G4 ClearVision Screen kit. This is a rain repellent chemical aimed for cars but it works the same way as a oleophobic coating giving that silk smooth surface.

Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gtechniq-G1...ssories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item3a878b8b16
It takes several weeks for the chemicals to bond to its final state and I applied this sunday afternoon. Today its pretty good. Very close to any other phone. Its very smooth.
I have only used it on the front but I might as well apply it on the back some other day.
I have to be honest this sounds totally cumbersome and lame. I'm going to search now about the scratches. You had yours a pretty long time and you say you onlt got one little scratch after all this time? Doesn't sound horrible to me...

Literally.

I walk, sit, go up and downstairs with my Ultra on my jeans pocket no problem.

it depends on whats kind of jeans you have..you feel it when its too tight. I take no risks anymore ...almost cracked my phone once.
Also look up the other threads here on XDA about bending the device and cracking the glass

I only use slim fit jeans all the time. Not super skinny jeans, but tight jeans. And no problems.

2 month maybe. I come from a Xperia Z.
I have mine ALL SCRATCHED UP. I mean like totally scratched, even the camera lens is scratched. None that I'm specially concerned with. Just remember it's the plastic cover that scratches, the glass is a bit more resistant.
No abuse, just normal use. Leaving it on the table while charging, specially when I didn't have the dock, caused the most scratches.
I don't use cases, they make ginormous an already ****ing big phablet.
Okay so at the very least I'm going to need to remove the plastic protector and get a glass screen protector on it. Hopefully there are some quality ones that have a nice oleophobic coating on them.

I used for about 6 month also had for my experience, i think i may be used a little on the hard side...always in my pocket whatever i walk, stand, run, sit, crouch, sit with leg crossed and everything maybe...and it still ok...take note cause i use all kind of pants and jeans...well i take it out sometimes... I also had dropped it twice when i sleep..the phone just dropped from my bed but i used a nilkin case...but it still survive so far eve though with case..
About the screen, i got one scratch on sony factory shattered proof screen protector and that's because i dumb enough to use metal keys to try on the screen and make 1 cm of scratch...because i can't live without Sony logo to be removed if i remove the shattered proof screen protector, i paste on top of it another high quality screen protector on it...so far it still survive till today and i enjoyed every little thing about it...i like to use it bare without the case but maybe I'm not brave enough to do it cause i always think it might fall from my hands...because the thinnest of this thing is crazy thin...in a good side that is...i like to use it bare but in my home only and not when i work...but someday maybe....

I use a protector on both sides and so scratches are not a problem for me. Also, if you want to keep it in jeans, i suggest buying a comfy book cover. I have one and so i can take it everywhere and anywhere without worrying about breaking it.

I got the first real scratch on my aftermarket screen protector after 6 months, although I do have a flip case. What do you guys do to your phones?
Back to subject on hand. I jave mine in my pocket when walking, but do take it out when I sit/drive etc. If you have the note3 in the pocket then the ZU should be ok.
I've had my Ultra 6 months. I can fit it in the front pocket of my jeans no problem, but if I'm wearing skinny jeans it may be a little uncomfortable to lift my knee above waist height. Due to the height of the device coupled with the sharp edged design, it ends up stabbing you in the groin. I mostly notice it when running up staircases 2-by-2.
It's not a massive problem though, with the right pair of jeans it's absolutely fine to go on a hike/climb with the phone in my front pocket. Obviously cargo trousers are no problem, and if I'm wearing more formal attire I usually just stick the phone in a jacket pocket. YMMV.
The screen protector thing isn't ideal, but it's not a massive issue in reality. Personally I hate the feel of plastic under finger, so I removed the protector on mine before it ever even got scratched. It's a ballache of a job, it took about 2 hours to do but that was months ago and it's a distant memory now. Without the cover, the phone is a fingerprint magnet but this is very easily mitigated by using Rain-X once a month or so.
It sounds bad, as obviously this isn't something you need to deal with at all with other phones but it's really not. No matter the phone, you're going to want to thoroughly clean the screen at least once a month anyway. Only difference with the Ultra is that after getting it super clean you apply Rain-X, which is an extra 60 second job. A bottle of Rain-X costs about £6, and I still have at least 90% of the bottle left after a good few months.
The other major downside to the Ultra is of course the piss-poor camera. Personally I don't mind as I rarely take pics with my phone and when I do it's usually in good light, but make no mistake about it: The Ultra's camera is total wank.
Other than that, it's a brilliant phone. Mega fast, mega reliable. I use the ported GPE rom on mine, and it's been totally rock solid for months. The stock Sony rom however is also very good - nothing like Touchwiz. The screen is amazing. The battery life is great. It throttles much less than the Note 3 when pushed hard and so is probably the quicker phone in the real world. I'm using the pure 3G (C6802) variant in the UK on three's mobile network, and it has the best signal strength and data transmission rates I've ever seen. I've hit 23Mbps on a couple of occasions, and regularly hit over 20. It's likely to get an official GPE rom of Android 4.5/5.0 quickly too, which is something to look forward to. It's the best phone I've ever owned, I'm mega happy with it. The only thing I want from the Z2 Ultra is smaller bezels to get a physically smaller phone with the same size screen.
Oh, and if you do decide to get one, make sure to get the docking station charging cable on eBay. The waterproof flap for the USB port is a PIA, and can break if used too much.
Hope this helps.
screen protector (plastic) horrible! Otherwise awesome
I have mine since beginning of december last year. I realy love the big and brilliant screen with accurate colors. For me its the best thing of this device. I realy realy love this screen. Be aware there seems to be different screens for the same model! Never checked which screen i got.
[I changed from Samsung S2 (i9100) which i realy like. But everytime i look at the ugly oversaturated colors at my S2 im getting mad. Then there is the AMOLED burn on the S2 which drives me crazy.]
What realy sucks is the screen protector (plastic) on the glas and the nonexisting LED. It get scratched very easily! Especially in comparison to gorilla glas At least in my case. I already bought a replacement glas (about 15$, ebay hong kong) but hadnt the time and patience to replace it. After using it for about 6 months i would suggest putting a extra glas on before you get the first scratch on the screen protector because peeling of the protector seems to be a pain in the... and buying a new glas and replacing it is cheap and easy.
The camera is only good in bright sunlight. Otherwise it justs sucks in my opinion.
My Trousers have big pockets so i can slip the Z Ultra in my front pockets and walk and jump around without any problems. Otherwise you should think how to carry it around before you buy it. Especialy if youre thinking about putting it in a case. If you hold it in the hand it and twist it it will bend!
If the device would be half an inch smaller (width) i could use it only with one hand! But i have long fingers. So on the go sometimes i wish it would be a little bit smaller. But just a bit.
You can get spare battery and back cover (with glue already attached) on ebay. So you can seal the device after opening it and it should be waterproof again!
I use Incipio Watson as a cover and protector (use google, dont have enough posts to link).
pro:
-very robust
-can remove phone from cover but its still in protector.
-if you drop phone some of the eneregy will go into seperating cover from protector. So phone becomes more sturdy on drop.
-its vegan. if youre in to that
con:
-big / huge
-cant use magnetic charger
-no magnet for holding cover closed. instead it has a band which just sucks.
-imo ugly in comparision to a naked z ultra
TL;DR:
owning since aprox. 6 months.
just freaking AWESOME
pro:
-big
-screen
-screen
-screen
-fast
-water proof
-metal case
-sd slot
con:
-big
-camera
-no led
-plastic screen protector (scratches easily)
-glas at the back (who the hell designs those things? Never heard of "Form follows function"?)
-speaker not realy loud (due to water resistance)

Personaly i could have only get a better device if would have built it myself
Go Project ARA!
The last 2 response are absolutely fricken amazing. ESPECIALLY from stiggy. Sounded like I wrote that myself. Great responses thank you.
Do they make glass screen protector that are thin and come with oleophobic coatings pre installed? If so would you consider them to be of OEM quality? Like if I put one on would you feel like you're using a stock screen? I was thinking of placing it over the top of the plastic layer instead of going through all the headache of removing the plastic film.

yes
i would do the same if i hadnt scratched mine already. maybe touch sensitivity will suffer.

Nothing wrong with them being there when I can turn them off.

may I ask why you want the GPe? The Sony version is available for the same price from their website and it seems like there is much more support from the XDA community for that particular model.

So both of you removed the ASF and didn't put anything over the top of the bare glass? Except you used Rain-X, stiggy, to serve as an oleophobic-like covering? Why didn't either of you put a tempered glass protector over the top?

Cheap slim glass screen protector

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a screen protector that is relatively cheap, ($10 each at most, frequently recommended ones like Spigen are over 30 bucks!), made of glass and slim.
No need for it to be bulletproof or anything, I'm careful with my phones and I just want it to not scratch with regular usage, not be a fingerprint magnet and not interfere with touch or s-pen sensitivity.
Anything you guys have personally used (preferably for some time already) and can recommend?
Heres the one Im using, its from AmzDeal been using about a week dropped my phone several times over the weekend out hiking and not a scratch on it its tough ill give it that. Its 10 bucks shipped with amazon prime and i got it in 2 days. Its a knock off but been very good. When I got it it came in the AmzDeal box and packaging, but when I went to apply the protector it said Incipio which doesnt even make one like that for the N3 LoL. So its cheap, a knock off but feels great, stylus glides across it and as I said after numerous drops is showing to be very strong. It also is a full cover around the phone except around the top speaker, and prox sensor area but goes around the entire screen and comes with a home button cover to help make it stick up more. I took out my original screen protector on my ZeroLemon case and this fits great inside. Hope this helps link is below:

I haven't put a screen protector on my last couple phones because I felt like they attracted grime/oil/fingerprints too much - what's the point of keeping your screen in pristine unblemished condition if you can't see it clearly because the cover is covered in fingerprints! The glass is so tough now that they really aren't necessary unless you tend to be a little abusive to your phones.
That said, I recently put on a couple different TechArmor protectors and the matte finish one is great. It is the "anti-glare / anti-fingerprint" version. I also tried the "ultra clear" version and that one is horrible! You touch it once and suddenly it looks like that beautiful sharp screen is covered in vaseline or something. Absolute fingerprint magnet, I couldn't stand it for 5 minutes. The AG/AF one is fantastic though. I really like the matte finish and how it sort of subdues the brightness of the screen without losing crispness or clarity. And you will never see a fingerprint again. I also LOVE how the stylus feels on it. It always felt a little awkward to write with on the bare screen, but on the matte protector it really feels like using a high quality ball point pen on paper. I'm sure the matte finish will be an instant turn off for some people, but I really like it and it's functional too. The "anti-glare" properties are marginal at best, but the anti-fingerprint properties are excellent. $7 for a three pack on Amazon and a little kit for applying it cleanly with no dust specks. Be careful to choose the AG/AF option and NOT the clear option (it's kind of a hidden as a "color option" so make sure you pick the one you want before you add to cart)
Nillkin glass protector - slim, smooth and has curved sides
No need to deal with inferior PET protectors

You said it was only cut out around the speaker and proximity sensor, but the photo of the ptoduct you linked to has the wide cut out, exposing the camera as well. Is the picture accurate or is your description?
I hate the extra wide cut out, I think that contributed to cracking my original screen protector.

Ya sorry about that I've got it in a case and didn't realize it went over that far, the picture is correct it goes from your LED to your camera. I will say though I spoke with the seller and he apologized said the distributor put the wrong incipio sticker on the device packaging and is sending me a new protector just because. So I will say the seller was really good to work with.

Good working cases/screen protectors/other accessories?

Hi all,
it would be nice if we could compile a list of the accessories we're happy with.
I'll start with the official case. It's really snug and feels good in your hand, and (as opposed to the official case of the original Swift) it doesn't crack when you look at it crossly Really happy with it, endorse it without reserve. (You need to like flashy orange, though )
EDIT: this one: https://www.pdashop.be/product/759010/wileyfox-swift-2-swift-2-plus-back-cover-oranje.html
Okay so for the cases:
My device came with the official one (in grey color), and after a month or so the power button came off, it didn't seem very strong at first and I knew that was going to happen at some point. Still, not disappointed with it but I didn't feel like it was "protective enough".
So, I went ahead and bought this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/WileyFox-Olycism-Shock-Absorption-Resistant-Transparent/dp/B06XG78G9B/ which came yesterday, and it definitely feels more safe now. Official case feels too plasticky for me, and I've always been a fan of this gummy style of cases. The cutouts for buttons and I/O are perfect, and align perfectly with the device. It doesn't feel too much thick either, so it's definitely a plus. It has a bezel protecting the screen in case the phone falls to the floor, so yeah. I don't regret spending 6 bucks on it in sale.
I can provide pics of any of both, if someone needs it.
I've got a clear one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132114205792 , which seems to look very similar to the case shared by linuxct . Fits well and cut outs are good.
Need to buy some screen protectors soon..

I got one of these:
amazon.de/Abacus24-7-Handyh%C3%BClle-Kreditkarten-Schutzh%C3%BClle-Smartphone/dp/B01MTY0YJY/ref=sr_1_3?s=telephone&ie=UTF8&qid=1493056844&sr=1-3&keywords=swift+2+abacus
It fits good and the possibillity transport debit cards or paper money without a wallet is nice. Unfortunately the seam dissolves a litte bit but that can beficed with a fire lighter or a drop of superglue.

Are they snug enough? I bought one that looked like these on e-bay for my original Swift, and it wasn't really tight enough. Just tight enough in fact to remain on the phone, but it felt quite loose.
Anyone know a good fitting tempered glass screen protector for the 2X? Al the ones I found are too big (edges don't curve down) and don't stick very well.
Wileyfox themselves have just released a screen protector for the swift 2x I've just ordered one. I've tried loads bought off eBay and had refunds for all of them as the fit has been terrible.
I bought a soft screenprotector from Screenknight. Fits very well and is smooth (after I peeled the protection layer off haha). I don't like the soft feeling, but it's better than an ill fitting tempered glass one.
I'm just gonna order the one on Wileyfox's site and report back when I receive it.
- Edit -
I received the screenprotector.
Good quality and very easy to apply.
After application you see a little oily residue under the screen. I hope that will disappear after a while.
Cool thing is that the logo on the bottom is shiny, so it's more visible than the dark logo.
I too got one of the Wileyfox screen protectors for the swift 2x it has the slightly oily look underneath it too. I thought it was a fault and got a replacement but the second one is the same. It does seem the best fit out of all the ones I've tried so far. The oily look is only visible when the screen is off. I do have a screen knight but have never applied it as I didn't fancy getting the phone wet.
Another one here with the slimy look under the screen protector. Fits nicely and like already said, looks nice too.
Got one of these as a case
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071LDGHTQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Awful. Looks smooth in the piccys but the back has quite sharp edges.
This was the reply from Wileyfox about the "oily" screen protector issue.
"Other than making sure your screen is clean and then reapplying the screen protector there isn't much else I can suggest I'm afraid."
Not a big problem anyway.
Dropped my phone on a sand path with pebbles. My screenprotector flew off. Cracked.
Not a scratch on my screen or case
Been walking around without screenprotector since. The screen is much more responsive compared to with the screenprotector.
I think I'm gonna leave it like this. If my screen breaks, I just get it repaired or get a new phone.
