Today I received an OTA update to 10e. I will see how it goes today and report back with any findings.
It may just be my imagination but the phone seems to run hotter on 10e

Battery life seems to be pretty good. I went all day without charging and that's with heavy use. I do have cpu tuner installed and running though.

are these MetroPCS roms usable on T-Mobile with wifi calling? also does anyone know if this fixes roaming that's been broken since jellybean came out?

as far as i can tell besides google drive and a few extra apps and removing root, wasn't much.. speaking of root, i was P'O'd and just flashed to v10b on the hunt for the almighty bootloader unlock.. on v20b now, irrelevant.. has anyone tried rooting after a factory reset? i've seen mixed posts of having root once updated.. i used cydia impactor to root on v10d.. after update root was gone, tried running it again but it kicked up errors.. su could not be found.. i'm waiting another 30 minutes before reverting to stock for the time being.. i'm willing to test it if no one else has but it won't be for a few days.. honestly tired of messin with it for now..
I just got this phone today and it automatically updated to the 10e version. I didn't even have the opportunity to root it at all. I've heard that cydia was the best way to root it,, do you think that would still work? Also, which is the best guy to use to unlock my boot loader with 10e and it being MetroPCS..any suggesitons? I've been reading but would like some useful opinions if thats okay.
Okay, so I finally got the update today. I was on the stock v10d, and rooted. I opened Titanium and unfroze all of the junk I had disabled. Then I told it to go ahead and apply the update. It rebooted and started to update, and I got the fallen down android with exclamation point. Hold power and restart. Boots back into my v10d, except now I somehow have the inverted touch screen again. What? I mean, I know can fix the touch screen easy enough, but what gives? Don't know why the update fails, and I especially don't know why I get the inverted touch. Any insight here?

I think you still have the euro recovery installed, that's why you got the wonky screen. The boot or recovery images will cause the funk.
The update will fail because you have the 2nd init cwm or because you have made changes to the system apk file.
I have a cwm backup of 10e plus the radio files. I know the 10e is in my thread themed lgms769 ROM.
I'm not to sure where I uploaded the 10e radio. Lol I just remembered it's in my themed ROM thread as well. It's not in the first post, look around the end of the thread for the files.

I have a rooted Thunderbolt and I have been able to reject the update from Verizon until this afternoon when my phone started to update on its own. The update didn't go through and I got an error icon. Now my phone just goes through the same cycle of turning it self off and trying to update and crashing.
I am able to get to the Clockwork Mod recovery page but the only option that works is the 'reboot system now', which starts the phone and the whole cycle of trying to update is started.
Does anyone have an idea of how to get my phone working again?

I'm really sorry to hear that happened, I'm not sure what you can do. Hopefully someone will be able to help you out. But at least I can tell you that you are not alone! I wasn't rooted, but my phone did autoupdate on its own at about 2:30pm today.

Pull your SDcard, wipe the pg05img.zip file, and try again. You might have to reflash clockwork.
This is the problem with running rooted stock ROMs. I know flashing a new ROM isn't what a noob wants to do, but it will avoid these very confusing headaches.
whats if you rooted using revolutionary? As far as i know there wont be that pg05img.zip file to delete.

Nope. One only has to keep up with the current releases, rooted versions of which come out within days of official release.
Are you sure it is the Verizon update?
I have the same behavior on my T-bolt since about 10 pst today. However, just before the phone shuts down to reboot, I see a note about a new version of Clockworkmod Recovery 4.0.1.5.
So I have been working on the assumption that it is CWM Recovery that is doing an automatic update.
I also am running rooted stock, and have not updated to latest release.
OK, it isn't the update to CWM Recovery that is the problem; it is the Verizon OTA update, which they have figured out how to force on us. I fixed my phone using the solution given by Mike later in this thread.

This, plus "root while you can" - there's no guarantee that rooting will be possible with each subsequent (unrooted) release, but you can root now and stay rooted to keep your options open. Also, getting full backups of everything is easier when rooted.

Mike, did you try what loonatik suggested? Did it work? Waiting breathlessly...
Unless I am misunderstanding the problem wiping cache from Clockwork recovery should clear out the update and it will quit trying to install it. For the future if you go to settings in the about phone or software update section (dont remeber which) there is an option to de-select scheduled update checks.

"If you are rooted use root explorer or super manager and set system to R/W. Then navigate to /system/etc/security. Find the file named otacerts.zip and rename it to otacerts.zip.bak and reboot. Should fix you up."
I'm sorry I can't remember who offered this solution to give credit to. I haven't had any updates yet but only time will tell.

Based on how many of these threads I see, that clearly isn't what's being done.
Apologies up front... I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum, but my searches can't turn up the answer I'm looking for.
I'm not ready to grab the new update, kernel, or radios. I'm running perfectly the way I want with Nils GingerSense 1.5 (GB).
The first OTA nag, I was able to reject. This morning, the OTA downloaded (found the OTAPkg.zip in /cache/fumo), but I was only able to defer several days, no reject option.
Question: Is there anything I can do to prevent future Verizon OTA attempts and forget about this until I'M ready to move forward?
I used to have fotakill.apk in my cm7 rom for the incredible . Maybe you can download any cm7 rom and extract that file. Might work?
I believe you can just delete otacerts.zip from /system/security and it shouldn't prompt you. I think that's what some people did on the Inc to block it before. Some also modified their build.prop, but I'm not sure what the line was, or what to change it to now.
I'm not to be held liable if anything goes wrong after modifying any of these things. Make a backup first!

I see a otacerts.zip in /etc/security , so I'll try renaming that, thanks.
Well, about an hour after I renamed /etc/security/otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak, another OTA download has begone, so that's not going to do the trick. I've restored the file, and the download is continuing. I'm deferring again, not sure what to try next.

You will have to stare at this thing to be ready ... it snuck the OTA at me when I wasn't looking, and I only realized it when the phone vibrated as it leaped into recovery and started flashing the OTA. Never asked my permission, and I never gave it.
I simply deleted every apk in the /system/app folder that said either Verizon or VZW.... I have not gotten any prompts about the OTA and it definitely has not installed or attempted to.
htcdm showed up as "hogging data" in one of my data trackign apps when i got my update message, hope that helps.
Would be nice to reject this OTA.
It don't even ask before trying to apply it!
I'm suprised that people on custom roms are getting the update attempt. Usually on a custom ROM, that kills the OTA updates. This is usually only a problem on those that are on a stock rooted type rom.

My thinking is the update might patch a leak that might help us get S-Off. If I'm way off base, please let me know, because ignorance is bliss.

I'm just stock ICS rooted, only did it for removing bloat and using tethering. Now my phone tries to do this update automatically too and it just reboots into twrp and sits there... One of these days it will do it overnight and i'll miss my alarm!! Pisses me off. ha

I registered just to reply to this. I took did a stock ICS root to get rid of bloat. Last night, it attempted to do an install at 2 AM est, got to recovery and hung. I rebooted it and went to sleep. 7:30 AM, my back-up alarm goes off, I look over at my phone, and it's stuck in recovery again, they tried to push another update while I was sleeping, and I missed my early alarm.
This is unacceptable. I need to find out how to permanently reject this blasted thing.

Yeah, happens to me once or twice a day, and if you don't notice it as it happens, it ends up just rebooted sitting in twrp. So I don't get calls or texts or alarms.
Anyone out there have any idea how to block the OTA's? Or can anyone answer if the following is possible.... I have never used titanium backup for actually doing any backups. I have just used it for removing stupid verizon apps. Could I do a backup of setting/apps and then flash the newest stock ICS ruu or whatever, re-use the root tool, and then restore my stuff from my backup?

About 8 posts back someone said that didn't work for their rezound. I tried it regardless. Had tried renaming that file with astro file explorer and i didn't have permission so I bought root explorer and it let me do it. We'll see if it keeps doing it to me like it did to the above poster...

I'm stock and rooted.
Last night, I froze the updater app in Titanium Backup. I rebooted for good measure. This morning I woke up to my phone booted in recovery.
I rejected the update and booted back up. So this is still an issue...
Just chiming in that I'm also affected, but havne'tthat on Sunday this push broke my GB image, so bad that I had to RUU it to ICS. Now I've been finding my phone at TWRP every morning with an OTA.zip failing to flash.
Additionally, I got a message that offered me to defer my update and I chose 3/10 at 7pm. But it still tried overnight.
Use tibu to freeze the ota updater package.
Or flash a custom recovery like amon ra for rezound. Or even a custom rom, say simplistic if you want to stay on an ics/sense based rom
To get the ota, one must have: a relatively unmodified stock rom (key system apps can't be frozen or missing) and the stock recovery tool. If you change either of those, you won't get prompted to do the OTA.

If you're s-on, you can't rewind the firmware on your phone. The mainver fix is just to get certain roms installed.
While it's possible they could patch the current s-off method, I doubt they care much at this point. Verizon has depleted their stock of replacement rezounds and HTC has moved onto new devices.

Just got to know that Pantech has released the much awaited Jelly Bean 4.1 for the Flex through OTA AT&T software update.
Like many others, I'm using the flex outside US, therefore, cannot update my flex.
Would request someone to upload the OTA JB zip file.
Can't wait to see Jelly Bean on the Flex.

This is good news. I wish I wasn't rooted with CWMR so I could get this. Tried flashing stock recovery.img and boot.img files but get NOT SUPPORT.
Anyone know a way to get this phone back to complete stock so we can get the Jell Bean goodness?

Got prompted for the update, it downloaded and installed fine!
This little Flex seems quite a bit better with Jelly Bean. Wish it had been 4.2 but 4.1 is fine.

Not planning to root this phone again.
Interesting that the Pantech diag menu shows still rooted and tampered, it's definitely not rooted.
It should be 100% stock.
If you know of a way to get the file off the phone I can look for it.

I knew from experience I had to go to stock recovery and unroot to update.
I flashed a stock rooted nandroid backup I had made after rooting initially.
To unroot I think I went into the SuperUser app and choose option to unroot.
Stock recovery file is posted in a thread here somewhere, had recovery.img and boot.img.
Tried flashing those in fastboot but only got NOT SUPPORT mesage.
I took a flashable zip file that had CWM recovery.img file in it and replaced it with the stock recovery.img and flashed it in CWM.
Once stock recovery was on the phone when I tried to use it I only got a little android symbol lying on its back with a red exclamation point.
Phone booted fine and worked ok
Couldn't get it to see the AT&T update until this morning.
Things I have noticed in this new Jelly Bean build for our little Flex:
Of the stock AT&T apps only 3 I could disable (ugh), why no Disable button

Basically you will find the update in the /cache folder.
I'm not sure if you you can access this folder without being rooted. You can give it a try using the ES File Explorer.
Let me know if you get the update.

I'm sorry, I factory reset the phone last night from stock recovery since it was not updating built in apps properly. Never seen stock recovery on this phone before. It has an option for root. I selected it. Downloaded a few root checker apps, not rooted.
I'm sorry if I hadn't reset it last night I might have found the file. I'm sure it will turn up somewhere. This little Flex doesn't have much in the way of development but someone here at XDA will get it sooner or later.

Why dont you try to root with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 ,its the same you used to root 4.0.4 I guess, should work, pull out the update and then unroot the phone as you dont want it rooted.
It happened to me, even rooted I wanst able to see /data content with ES File Blablabla, then tried with root explorer and worked fine.
I'm not going to root this Flex. It's not a primary phone for me (never was). It is used as a spare now and can be used by novice users in my family and friends. Don't want them to have a rooted phone. I'd been wanting to get this phone back to complete stock for a while but hasn't really put much effort into it.
When I saw that Pantech released JB for Flex a few days ago that was my motivation to get it back to stock. Frankly I was surprised I was able to get it back to stock and not brick the phone!
I'm uploading the stock rooted rom I have. Luckily I saved that on my computer. It's uploading to Dropbox now so it will take a while.

Well, thanks for the file, I'm outside US and even on stock, update notification doesn't prompt.
I got mine back to Stock, but when I hit check for upgrade it says..."Previous session is running. Please Try Later"

I can see ATT's software updater sucks, we just can wait for our friend's upload.

That should be a stock but rooted rom. Nothing else done to it at all. At least. I had that on the phone for a while as a backup when I was playing with roms for the flex.
Probably only going to leave this link up for a day. I'd make your own nandroid backup first. You'll probably get an md5 error in CWMR but there are instructions for fixing that around. I think it was ADB commands that had to fix it. I know the instructions for clearing the md5 error are in one of the flex rom threads, not that there were many of those. The standard disclaimer applies, if this nandroid backup bricks your phone, I can't help you.
I got the same previous session message too. Then it said no update after wiping. I think the best thing is just wipe and don't check for updates. Leave phone on, wifi on and wait for the phone to check on it's own. I got the prompt in a few hours.

Likely if you do not flash stock recovery in CWMR the update will fail. I tried to take the update before flashing stock recovery, it failed each time. I had already unrooted though. Pretty much what I have learned from flashing various phones over the years is that if you are not stock completely any OTA updates from the carrier will fail or soft brick your device.
I think the Flex was one where I had just that issue. There was some AT&T update a few months back, I said to apply it and I got stuck in recovery. Every time I rebooted the phone it just booted to recovery. Found out if I went into the diag screen on the Flex and choose reboot from there I could boot normally. Eventually I figured out I had the wrong boot.img on the phone. Once that was fixed the phone booted fine. But the update never worked.
You can try to take the update with CWMR but I doubt it will work and could brick or soft brick. I've learned to never take an OTA update from the carrier if you are not completely stock.

Im on stock and I cant update, no root, stock recovery, Ive been waiting for the update and nothing.
I dont know if is because Im outside US
I got mine back to stock and unrooted, but the upgrade still fails at about 25% and reboots. If I clear cache and wipe, it will download again, then fail again. Even after flashing back to stock, recovery still says rooted and so does the software upload screen. But I have confirmed that I am no longer rooted. I am about to give up.
So I rooted/Bump'd my phone awhile back using StumpRoot and flashed this BARREN Odex & Deodexed and I also put in TeamWin's Recovery Project v2.8.0.0. I disabled OTA updates on my device.
Well, I recently did get an OTA for a newer version of my Android OS which I figured would be okay since I was basically using a flashed but stock ROM that was Android anyways. I let it download the update and after it restarted, it only loads up the TeamWin loader. I can't reboot to recovery or anything.
I used TeamWin to wipe everything except the system partition and my phone still isn't loading up to the ROM. I tried using this tutorial on using the LG FlashTool to get it back up and running and it keeps failing on step #20. I don't know what else I can do.
I am not very experienced with the whole bootloader/ROM/rooting/whatever scene so I am doing everything I can and nothing is still booting the OS. I figured the OTA removed the root on the device and is why the ROM can't load but I'm not sure.
I'd really like some help if anyone can provide it.

Lesson learned huh, ota when rooted, especially these tricky devices is not your friend. Someone eventually will make the updated rom rooted

I had the same problem, you have to factory default your phone again and when wifi pops up uncheck it and itll ask to search for service or register device.

i hope this works for you. i had to send my back because i was told the radio was dead. the sprint tech typed in things on the keypad to try and connect to the network and no luck. mine was stock for the moment, but rooted. it did have an OTA download, no intentions to install it, but my daughter had other plans......thankfully it was replaced. just got it today and it it stump'd, twrp'd and OTA's blocked.
Downloading it now at a blistering 200 kb/s as I refuse to pay, lol.
Oh, it's on Kies, too.

I'm downloading now. I honestly found that I don't really need root. I have the 4.4.4 firmware saved so assume I can go back to 4.4.4 if I want later. I'm going to grab 5.0 before it loads as well.

Yeah, haven't really found anything nagging that I need root for, either.
5.0.1 is a nice improvement. . Seems to run smoothly with better battery life. Be prepared to completely start fresh as you will basically be installing the new 5.0.1 OS in place of the 4.4.4. Both my phone as well as my wife's required me to run the recovery feature during the upgrade process [deleting all but my ext. SD card].
Yes! Finally! Installed and doing well !!
Any way to force the Software Update? Guess I'm not one of the ones who are eligible to download it as of yet.. just got the first preliminary software update

Correct, I even tried the updated 4.1 version from the Xperia board and it was a no go.
I would assume we could downgrade via odin if you have the old firmware saved or downloaded, but I haven't tried,

I can also confirm KingRoot doesn't work. I tried the 4.5 version with no luck. :crying:
I will download the kitkat firmware and see if I can revert.
I'll keep you posted.

Snapchat freezes *THE ENTIRE PHONE* all while making it unbearably hot to touch.
Swiftkey hangs and has to be force closed.

Im also curious to know if you can flash back to an earlier firmware. If you can go back to ANL1 OR AOC1, that would be awesome. Im getting mine in about 2 weeks, so this is a must-know.
I have been running 5.0.1 since this post went up. Phone has been running terrible. Guess the whole memory leak issues with lollipop is just a thing across the board. Everything takes forever to happen, and I have to restart a LOT.
Let it be noted I just updated to 5.0.1 without a factory reset. I might do a reset this weekend and see if it performs better starting from scratch on 5.0.1, instead of running previous apps on new OS.
I have all three available firmwares for the VZW Edge. I can upload them to my server tonight. Would be faster downloading then trying to fight SamMobile for them. Let me know if that would help anyone here.
it'd hep me greatly. after waiting months for lollipop for months, it arrives with a gigantic letdown. overheating, horrible battery life, lag and force crashes/apps freezing. virtually none of these problems before lollipop came about. going to back things up with Helium first, then do a factory reset and see if that improves anything before i try to see about reverting back to lollipop or just using my note 4 instead.

Has anyone had any luck downgrading? I want to go back to KitKat, but can't seem to flash AOC2 with Odin.
