broken HW nav keys - AT&T LG Optimus G

my girlfriend just got this phone a month ago, and she dropped it yesterday. theres a little crack on the glass near the nav keys, and now they do not work. i saw a edit for the build.prop to enable on screen nav keys, so i edited the build.prop, and rebooted. now it shows the boot animation, then i get a black screen. i know nothing really about LG phones. im only familiar with motorola devices. i have the original build.prop file saved. i tried to abd push it to system but it says its only mounted as readable. the phone will charge while off, and i can get as far as the red triangle android. i only run ubuntu computers. i do not have a windows PC in my house. what are my options here?

Just a question .
Is your device rooted and has unlocked bootloader ??
What version are you using for the Android ? I guess it should be JB.
Onscreen overlay buttons can be used but It probably needs to be rooted in order to allow it.
And your device seems to have been lost in bootloop. ("Soft Brick")

All I did was root it so I could write system files. I enabled read/write with my file explorer before i changed anything. I did not unlock the boot loader. It is stock 4.1.2 I believe from the factory. I've been searching the net for 2 days now for a restore method on a Linux base with no good results. Like I said in the OP I'm only familiar with Motorola devices really, which have tons of Linux support. If I must I could borrow a windows laptop and go from there. I'm just hazy on which methods are best to use. I want a factory restored fresh out of the box install.

I have no idea about Linux based method , right now. But for a windows base machine you can use LGNPST method for restoring a device back to Box .

So I restored the phone with LGNPST on a friends windows machine. Was a little tricky to get it all installed right, but after 3 attempts it finally worked great.
So more or less what I'm looking for now is a good method for soft keys? I believe the one I tried that soft bricked the phone was for ICS, which obviously won't work. I'd really prefer a app over a mod so the screens resolutions don't get messed up. Anybody have any recommendations? Something that has a trigger sort of like pie I think would be best so its not in the way on the screen.

Sounds good. I'll check it out. Not worried about custom stuff really since my girls hard keys are broken. Just need something functional with home and a back button, so she doesn't have to reboot every time she opens anything.

That will work for you. I have my frequently used apps on it too... makes a nice quick app launcher that's hidden when you don't need it to clean up the home screen.

Reaching out for help!

So I have my new HOX+ (AT&T). I got it boot unlocked, perma rooted...and the first thing i tried to modify was the fonts using the "font installer" app. Well this turned into a fiasco. it installed the font...showed a whole string of *insert Asian language characters here* on the status bar, went into a reboot...and never came back again. It boots to the White HTC splash screen, and just hangs.
At this point, I can reboot into TWRP recovery...but for whatever reason....my recovery isn't present. I don't know what i screwed up...but it isn't there. So I wiped everything...now I need an OS. Preferably a factory ROM....but I don't think anything exists yet for the AT&T model. And how can I get it on the phone!? I come from a world of GS3, where Odin could save the day...
Can anyone help me out/point me the right way?

dang...no one!
I can USB mount the phone within TWRP..but when it shows up as a drive on my comp, clicking on it yields a "please insert a disk" message...
Wish I could help. I know how much your situation sucks. It's one of the drawbacks of hacking our device. The carrier or company will obviously not help since its our fault. Hopefully you got it working by now.

Still "softbricked".
I cant get my machine to recognize the device when it is on TWRP with the storage mounted, so I cannot get a zip file on it to do anything.
This is what I get when I launch into TWRP with the device plugged into my comp.

So the device wont appear under "My Computer", therefore I cannot copy any .zip file to the device, therefore, its a brick.

Wow... glad you got it fixed, but sorry that no one was apparently around to help you out today. In the future, you can also flash the RUU file to return to stock.

PRO DEVELOPERS!! HELP!!One part of my tablet is not functioning!

OK yesterday I installed some kind of root app, it is from the play store so it couldn't be dangerous. After using it, my tablet's entire touch screen became unresponsive. After a few restarts, it change back to normal, but this part of my screen remains unresponsive.

PLEASE HELP
"some kind of root app"
Step one to working towards a solution is to desceibe the issue in as much detail as possible. This would include the applications name that broke your tablet as well as the make and model of tablet you have. And whatever (if any) additional tweaks or mods it might have. Also, anything you have already tried to fix it.
This does not include screaming at it or asking it to "please fix itself"

App name: ROEHSOFT ram expander
Tablet: Nova Dream(not widely known so you might not know it)
No tweaks no mods
Problem: the entire line cannot be touched, making it hard for me to type the letter 'o', 'k' and other parallel letters on the keyboard.
BTW, the unresponsive part of my tablet is the entire lane between the two dots.

Is the widget on the right edge of the screenshot from the Reohsoft App? Is it selectable?
Also, what Android version is that tablet running and does the device have an SDCARD installeed? What size?
Does it fix if you uninstall the app and reboot the device?

RSD Lite for Mac and Linux Flash Stock Motorola Firmware

RSD Lite Tool For Mac and Linux
View attachment 3812978
This tool is designed to flash stock Motorola firmware just like you can with Motorola's program RSD Lite but on Mac and Linux machines.
What it does is looks at the XML files that come with Motorola firmware like the servicefile.xml and the flashfile.xml then coverts them all to fastboot commands it also checks the MD5 of all the firmware files just like rsd lite.
If you want to learn more and see some examples of how this is all done check HERE

Hi, I was considering picking up the amazon version of the g4 play, but decided to see if there was a way to flash the stock motorola version of android before doing so. I read through the provided script and saw that you chose to ship your own binaries instead of using the versions of adb and fastboot already installed. Looking at the binaries themselves, I found that while my own adb is 164K and fastboot is 116K, your versions are 1292K (!!) and 296K respectively. I am, I think understandably, wary of running large uninspected binaries on my system. My question is, if I copy my own versions of these programs into the RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux/files/ directory (or use sym-links), is this likely to cause issues with the flashing process?
Also, is there a reason you direct people to download everything from your site instead of linking to upstream, even for programs like notepad++ and even when your versions are (very) outdated?
Should this work on Motorola Photon Q (xt897), which normally works with (windows) version 6.15? I tried that with wine, but it doesn't see my phone...

Wileyfox Swift 2?

I was on https://cyngn.com/support looking for the Wileyfox Swift stock ROM, when I came across a new device, codenamed 'marmite': Wileyfox Swift 2/Swift 2 Plus. Could this be the next Wileyfox device?
Don't quote me on this but I believe it has better specs than the Swift. IE better camera. Just what I've been hearing around though. So nothing official as of yet

According to the model released in Russia it has a Snapdragon 430, fingerprint scanner and NFC. Looks good, don't know the pricing though.
Its up on their website today, pending an announcement, so certainly seems true...
I'm exited about this. Seems like a nice upgrade. From what I understand the new 430 chipset supports OTG which I really missed on the current model. For anyone interested, here is a comparisson of the specs https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/compare/468607;649493/
Too bad they keep making phones bigger, the current swift is already over the limit for me

You can't take out the battery which is not acceptable as well as the "option" to use a second SIM card or a mirco SD card. The first swift does not have these disadvantages.
Hai There, i have just bought de Swift 2+ and i want to root this device. I have already unlock the bootloader and flash the TWRP, but when i flash the latest SU, the device don't start up anymore.
I just rooted mine today using the version linked in the root-thread for the old swift. Worked fine.
As there is no thread for wileyfox swift 2 plus (yet) I thought I ask here.have any owner's of the swift 2 or swift 2 plus been able to use OTG? as all the adaptors I've bought haven't worked.anybody else had success with OTG? hope someone can answer. thanks.

Yes, I've got it, too. It's called "verified boot" and is an annoying Android security feature implemented in official roms. I can't post links, but just google "android verified boot" and you'll find plenty to read about it. You'll either have to live with it or flash a custom rom like Cyanogenmod to get rid of it.

I can deal with it, but it's nicer to get rid of out. U talk about a rom but i can't find a rom for the Swift 2 Marmite.
The stock rom is already a CyanogemMod.
Can u find an rom for the Swift 2 Marmite???
The stock rom is CyanogenOS which is the commercial branch of Cyanogenmod. It is altered to match the Google guidelines. Even though I didn't try I'm pretty sure you won't get these messages after replacing the stock rom with Cyanogenmod.

Windows USER`S PLEASE READ THIS! we need your help

Hello, first of all please do apologize for my English (i´m portuguese) , and an actual yogabook android version user.
We (the android users ) are having some hard times trying to boot windows on our tablet (it makes sense because it´s the same machine) therefore, what we need right now, is for someone who could acess his bios (there´s a thread here explainning the process, its actually quite simple) and, tell us how the windows bios is configurated, to allow us do a "copy/paste" of the configuration.
would you guys be so kind and help us out? :crying:

ACPI is branded in the bios and on by default as Windows has it under control.
Power, Device, Processor-States etc... all handled by Windows and not like older (very old) bios which had APM
That's why you need another bios if you ever want to dualboot.
I'm pretty sure you can download the BIOS from Lenovo. I couldnt help you install it from Android though. Seems like a very easy way to a bricked device.

Well... There is a tool from lenovo site, but it seems to update only if you already have windows 10 (exe file).
Vicious circle !

You got it. Quite easy to brick it.
I am pretty sure Lenovo burned the BIOS in an EEPROM. Differently between Windows and Android models. Updates are just flashed in a CMOS, well rather NVRAM nowdays. That's why Windows and Android models have completely different approaches when it comes to update the BIOS. I doubt there will ever be a way to flash (supposed) "Windows" settings into a "Android" device, as the EEPROM was initially fixed differently, expecting specific store instructions for the NVRAM depending the OS model.
