Hi my name is Rob and I'm a flashaholic I have to admit with every new phone I get I probably flash every custom ROM made for it I'm not much for stock based roms but I got my lg g2 about a month ago and have flashed to try out just about every ROM built for it so far and I can't wait to see more kitkat ROMs
I pretty much like to flash the latest versions of android to just waiting on more kit kat ROMs
Over the past two days I've flashed 6 different ROMs but keep coming back to ose even though it's not that stable it has all the features I'm looking for

am afraid its a completely normal condition bought on by a very complicated organism designated lgg2 i'm afraid the prognosis is not good as the disease is very fast and progressive with episodes of high euphoria followed by intervals of extreme anxiousness- we can only hope that the research into this worrying condition will be continued
and that maybe in the distant future there may be a cure.
I myself find I've been able to avoid the flashaholism by knowing how I like my phone
I'm on pa currently awaiting cm to finish fixing the lte issues.
But I my self know I like a build of the latest cm, stripped down, debloated to it's bare minimum, with a good kernel, and a few tweaks

Hello, flashaholic here as well.
Love the g2, Flashed cm, PA rom, slimkat and others. Unfortunately I'm soft-bricked at the moment. Hoping to find a resolution.
However with that being said I love the flexibility and the customization.

I am in the same boat. Always looking to see if my circle or ROMS have updated versions. At this point I cannot go back to stock I think I like the latest 4.4.2 performance. Stock just feels slow to me though it's been a while. Maybe ill check out the Flex..
Using PA Houstonn's 4.4.2, Beanstalk 4.4.2, PacMan 4.3 nightlies, and 4.4.2 SlimKat weeklies.

me too, this week i flash my first stock rom, and no good, aosp is way faster, if you think in test more there is carbom rom now!
I've always been a flashaholic. This is the first phone I've been completely satisfied with just root. I couldn't care less about flashing now, and its pretty sweet not having to set my accounts up and restore backups once a day.

I'm gonna copy a reply I wrote due days ago on similar topic to avoid writing the whole essay :

I come from many phones history (see signature) where I always flashed PA or CM especially on touchwiz phones.
However on the G2, I liked stock at first and kept using it for around 2 months.
Then, having ORD decease (  see signature again) I kept my eye on PA and tried it on Christmas vacation. It caused me such a big confusion to the extent where I went between stock and PA like 5 times confused on which is BETTER and which I LIKE most.
Currently I returned 2 days ago to stock but still thinking about PA... 
Yes stock is nice with all features and stability, but I just HATE the nonconformity in design (even when using Xposed heavily to stabilize things and theme others).
-Also PA gave me such a smooth experience (much faster) with a lot more RAM and great simple looks. About RAM I greenified most system and installed apps that hogs RAM and still barely have about 500mb of free RAM while I have around 900mb on AOSP roms without any greenifying.
-Most importantly I had crazy battery life on PA while it's lower on stock even when nearly disabling every feature (except knock on of course).
-The thing that made me return to stock, believe it or not, was mainly camera (I know there's a mod for stock camera on AOSP but it's not that functional) and non-intrusive call notification which is a life saver when playing games. I tried "call heads", "call popout" from playstore but none worked nicely all the time.
Even when Omni gives that feature, I cannot install Halo (via Xhalo xposed module) on this ROM bcz it conflicts heavily with multiwindow feature in their rom which I cannot care less about it.
-I hate stock lockscreen and I love AOSP lockscreen.
-I hate AOSP camera and I like stock camera.
-I love AOSP calendar which options of colouring the events but hate its lack of features. I love stock calendar and its widget and snooze option while I hate its lack of colouring events feature.
-Although stock launcher is great it keeps redrawing (reloading) when quitting apps (heavy ones) which is annoying. AOSP laucher doesn't but lack features.
-Sound quality TILL NOW is better on stock.
-Immersive mode and the ability to always see notification bar even when in heavy games is awesome on AOSP.
-Quick memo is awesome for screenshots and editing on the run and sharing. I still couldn't find an app that does all that, that simple and quick on AOSP.
-Call voice recorder (G2 tweakbox) gives amazing sound and recording quality while call recorders on AOSP suck.
-NO FM radio on AOSP till now (maybe spirit fm will change that eventually).
Although most times I think that I don't need all those "useless" features on stock and that I need the quickness, smoothness of AOSP. I end up thinking that I did not pay 650$ (yes in my country) for a 32GB G2 to dump all those and run AOSP on it. If so, it would have been smarter ( and cheaper) if I kept my nexus 4 (or get a cheaper nexus 5 rather a G2). However I really like the feel and looks of AOSP. However  it's those small/silly/gimmick/nice cool features that stock ROM gives you that make you feel that you own a SMARTphone and not any simple phone. It's the fact that you know that they are THERE when you need them that makes you feel satisfied even when you really rarely use them.
As you can see, it's a REALLY very TOUGH decision which always makes me feel confused. One day I wanna use AOSP, the other stock.
I really hate that phone for that.  On samsung phones I really didn't give a thought about it.

Well found another ROM that looks interesting downloading and flashing now beanstalk 4.4.2
Update: right now I'm torn between beanstalk and slimkat have them both on my phone and I keep switching back and fourth but I think beanstalk is winning so many customizations think in gonna stick with it for awhile

App Compatibility?
All those on AOSP ROMs, What about apps. I have read that most of the apps specially games don't work on AOSP on lg g2. You have that problem?

At the time cyanogen brought a lot of features we now use everyday. Os optimizations apps to sd. Things lf that nature. It is fully opensource and open to anyone to use.
I am fascinated and captivated by the vibrant screen on my epic galaxy s.

The ability to customize the phone, the stability, the speed, the battery life, and it gives phones the the g1/dream froyo which I guess was deemed impossible. It also gives users great support and updates quite frequently.

Plus it is a large group of people that work collectively together, they along with a few others are the ones that the leading "cutting edge" devs........ they blazed the trail and now all of us and the current devs benefit from their work.
Yea. Since its built from scratch it is faster than any roms here.
The g1 roms were same speed rooted or not
When cm came it was fast! And then a rom based on cm called super d was even faster and then a european rom was fastest!
So what I'm trying to say is, CM is and will be faster than the ROMs built here overclocked or not because the ROMs found here are based on the Official Froyo made by Samsung not a Vanilla Gingerbread rom built from scratch
So I think something built frrom scratch is better than something just modified and themed

It's built from scratch using the AOSP source, which a lot of ROMs are not (many ROMs are merely modified versions of existing stock ROMs).
It has an extensive amount of customization and flexibility beyond any other ROM I've ever used on an Android device.
I don't mind the ROM I'm running on my Vibrant, but I miss CyanogenMod. Since the CM7 release candidate for the MT4G just hit, I think it's time for me to change it up a bit. I'm tired of my short-range wifi (seriously, less than full bars when I'm only six feet away from my 802.11n router?), non-functional GPS and totally wonky compass, anyway.
I think one of its advantages is the sheer size of the community, if you've ever used various Linux distributions the same concept applies. When your user base expands to the point where you've got dozens if not hundred of loyal users posting guides, reporting bugs, requesting features, and answering new user's questions the community really feeds on itself and builds momentum. Cyanogen is largely responsible for a lot of the momentum in the rom community, and I know it's brought more people to the community than almost any other project.
A lot of things.
The cyanogenmod options alone are worth it - VM Heap, swap, JIT, compcache, et cetera. Granted these things are more relevant to lower end devices. Then there's the native ADW launcher integration. I've never been about to replace the stock launcher with ADW and get the same results.
It's really just its use in practice. Everything works, the interface is very instant/responsive (no jagged animations/scrolling, ever), no force closes, lots of mods/hacks for it from the community, which in general is very scrutinous about performance/stability hangups. Battery life twice what you're use to.
They're the only ROM team I've donated to. I flashed hundreds of roms when I had my Magic (one of the hardware-weakest android phones) but CM is what kept it up to par, giving me an extra generation's life out of it.
I personally love all the features built in, like pulldown menu modifications, as well as pretty much customizing every aspect, NO roms like that exist for our Vibrants..

hmm... I might have to give cm7 a try once they get it working on the vibrant. They are working on it right? If the manufactures were smart, they would give a pre-release phone to those guys before it's available to the public. Of course, the carriers may not like it. I just purchased my vibrant 3 weeks ago (former iphone 4 user). I tried a few darkyy's roms, then toxic, then finally I stuck with trigger. I'm very satisfied with it - mainly b/c everything works nice and smooth.
I see I'm a bit late but yes, Trigger is awesome. I tried flashing others and I always come back after 2days tops.... For some reason, Trigger runs so much smoother than the other ROMs on my phone... And I have tried 2.2.1(Honestly I dont get the difference) and I am not a fan of the 2.3.3 because most say the GPS doesn't work and I use my GPS at work, yes through my phone(I'm cheap). Plus that is one of my reasons for buying a "smart phone" It has everything at your finger tips, or supposed to at least right. Hope your having fun.,..... BTW, CM is freaking awesome on every device I have seen it on...... I'm actually curious to know why it's not on the Vibrant as an official build but eh..... It will come when it's ready I suppose

I've been running Cyanogenmod 10.something on my HTC One T-Mobile since I got it. I am blown away by the customization and the tweaks it has to offer but I've been coming across a lot of problems. Media messaging seems to be unstable, I get picture texts almost a couple days later after someone sends them. The battery also seems to be draining really fast (not sure if its just the HTC One or the CM itself). Despite being a pretty snappy ROM there still seems to be a lot of memory usage, ironically running a launcher with HTC Sense used 35% of memory on average while under CM its typically as high as 65% running the exact same apps and widgets.
Naturally I would like to switch to Google Play edition for the stability, it seems to be what the CM team were trying to emulate with more user control of course. I just want to know what kind of features I would be losing if I do so. Does anyone here have any insight on both ROMs?
Any advice/suggestions here would be very helpful. I haven't been able to find a thread that puts CM against GPE.

I'd put my money in any CM custom ROM especially soon as they become more stable.
Couple of things to consider... T-Mobile may be pushing the 4.2.2 upgrade soon. Also, you could try this stock 4.2.2 International ROM here on XDA. I ran this same ROM on an AT&T HTC One with root, S-OFF. Absolutely bug free,

i would suggest viper rom as it has all the customization you would ever need but sense based. so you will not lose zoe and other sense features.

I feel like custom roms are needed for the heavy theming. Coming from Samsung devices for my last three phones I don't feel like I need a custom rom with my G2 BC of Xposed and G2 settings. I can debloat all I want with TiBu. I'm looking forward to the new kernels for possibly even better battery life.

After using various roms the last couple years on several devices to gain features and to keep device up to date, I think keeping stock and using xposed on the g2 is the best solution. Nearly all the benefits of a custom rom, but with all the stability of stock.

I am a custom ROM addict but when I got the LG G2 all changed for me. Suddenly my urge to change ROMS has ended thanks to the great G2 experience combined with x-posed framework.

I'm in the same boat. I'm having flash withdrawals. After enabling themes on my AT&T phone, I'm loving this thing. I've read even some of the Stock ROM variants on here have echoing issues and other problems. I want to flash so badly but for the first time I don't think I will

This. After using this stock I started to love the stock features and what not. Now I think AOSP is just a little too plain for me. G2 Xposed and Xposed framework really took the cake. I got my phone almost perfectly the way I want.

I say and I mean it, because I feel exactly the same: stock and AOSP ROMs both have ups and downs, making it a very hard to choose.
At the time being I'm trying - as you are - to keep stock and enhance it with Xposed modules, with a good success so far.
The thing that I miss most from AOSP is the clean UI of statusbar icons and settings pages; nothing so crucial, but it would be nice to have a "stock android" theme to choose from.

Anyway I am stock + xposed ... . Long time CM, PA user, but am getting maybe old and wanna use my phone instead of tinkering too much with custom, should maybe xplain am not much of a CM stable release guy, always Nightly
For the 1st time ever since owning my 1st android phone (first one was the HTC Evo4G) I've loved a (tweaked) stock ROM much more than any custom ROM. After I started messing around with the features on the stock ROM, AND installed xposed tweaks...I just dont see how anyone could want to load a custom ROM on this phone. Especially since custom ROMs are still experiencing bugs and random issues. On the stock ROM everything works, perfectly...incredible battery, I average over 7hrs of screen time which is just unreal IMO. The ONLY thing I liked more about AOSP ROMs than the stock ROM is the quick settings tiles. That's honesty IT...in every othe way stock>>>>>AOSP.
I use a custom rom, but based on stock. I've used AOSP roms and they're all good, but stock just seems to have a few more feature that make it better for me. Plus, I find battery is always better on a stock based rom.
I do flash custom roms based on stock, though, and am currently running a Flex rom. Sometimes you get bugs or weird graphic issues (black text on grey background) but the Flex roms seem to run smoother than the regular stock rom. Maybe LG did some fine tuning to their software to keep it smoother on the Flex?
Stock plus xposed. It's hard not to use it this way. There is no customization I don't have that I want, plus the stability of stock. Phone feels perfect to me this way.

Thats decent and all...but on stock ROM I easily get over 7hrs of screen time, on average. Thats with pretty decent usage like web surfing, a lil bit of game play, and watching videos. A couple times I've come really close to 9hrs of screen time. I just dont see anyway how an AOSP ROM could beat that. Especially since I dont think I've ever got better battery life on any AOSP ROM, with any phone I've ever had.
decent? I find it quite good. Honestly I always find it quite questionable what people do when they say they reach 7-9hours of screen time. Just like a few nexus 4users (as always, a minority) reported getting 5-7 screen on time. To me something about that is fabricated. And if you are just using your phone as a form of eBook then it to me also explains why the sot is so high.
For the most part I don't really even take wireless man into consideration because then it would be quite realistic for me to get 7-9 hours of sot as well. It is just a bit strange because when I use my phone and compare results I'm usually nearly exclusively trying 3g because I intend to use it as a mobile phone and as such try to get the most realistic statistics play possible. Maybe this is a rant I don't know. Haha

It's mediocre, a lot of games don't work and the list keeps growing. I ask devs if they can look into it and get no reply. So to me it seems like they don't care, so I don't care to use aosp. I stick to stock w/ xposed and its beast.

I never thought there would come a day when I would say this about a manufacturer skin, but I'm actually enjoying the .290 Sony 4.3 firmware better than CM 10.2 (And I've been a militant CM supporter/user since version 6.1 -- 4 years ago in the Froyo days). Is it just me or do the Sony firmware builds feel noticeably faster? Also the battery life seems to be improved vs CM and the keyboard is sized more appropriately, etc. etc. The small apps are a nifty feature.

No, you're, definitely, not insane and you're not alone on this! Exactly, my feelings. I've never thought that one day I'll start liking one manufacturer's skin/UI better than stock Android. But, it happened. And as a result, I've purchased the Xperia Z Ultra. Couldn't be happier more. It's the best phone I've ever owned.
I have to say/admit that I've faced more stability issues on CM more than Sony's firmwares. And for speed : Yes, it's definitely faster! IMHO, Sony's software engineers are done an excellent job for optimizing the software in the best possible way. There is zero lag, zero glitches etc. Just, very buttery smooth experience.
After the Mr. Kazuo Hirai's becoming the presiden and the CEO of Sony, many things have been changed fundamentally and noticeably. They got their innovation back as it was in 90s and 80s and one more time, started to make some unique products (QX10/QX100, first mirrorless Full-Frame camera except Leica : A7/A7r etc.) like walkman back in the day.

No you're right, sony have done it right!
They've allowed you to keep the fluidity of stock android and have given you customization that dont slow the phone down
I couldnt be happier with my Z Ultra
It used to be that the smartphone SoC was very limited in terms of capability so a clean ROM is the better choice. But with rapid development and less bloat on Sony's UI (+cool design) and slower Android upgrade it is clearly better now. So yeah, not that much reason should i jump to CM ROM again (unlike previous RAZR MAXX of mine) for now Maybe if the Android 5.0 come out in the future i guess but for now no..

I Concur! I've had this device for about three months, & I really enjoy it also! I purchased it with the Sony UI in mind and sure enough it did not disappoint. I wasn't upset to see the Google edition released so soon after I bought this one. This is really the longest I've ever went without root also, as most prior phones did not make the 30 day mark.
I honestly would be happy with root access on the stock Sony Rom, however with all the confusion of root methods / model numbers / TA partitions / possibility of losing LTE, I'm just really trying to be patient. I kept in mind that buying such a large (under the radar phone) my slow my ability to tinker with it, but it's beginning to a bit of a hassle without root.
I recently accepted the 4.3 update, & the speed and mellow performance was noticed immediately. I was trying to stay on 4.2 as I had read different threads saying it was able to be rooted as oppose to 4.3 .290 but as of recently that seems to have changed now... This whole phone's process seems extremely confusing, and I'm tired of reading different contradicting threads .....and it's never a good idea to start playing with your phone when your frustrated & uninformed so I guess I'll just hang out a bit longer until things seem clearer....

Although on Note 2 I did not go with any AOSP except from the usual testing, but always came back to stock because of Spen features.
With the Ultra, this stock rom is so light, smooth and plus I keep the phone features plus it has been designed better to use the larger screen...I am VERY impressed with the Sony Rom so I dont see myself flashing anything but Sony based Roms.
I enjoy my phone now more than just using it to flash new stuff trying to get it to be better

That's common and you are not alone. I too am using the Stock 4.3 without any intention of flashing other ROMs (I do really love flashing as I had nearly flashed every Android phone I have ever owned)
I'm back on stock after a day on GPe. I love AOSP and the GPe ROM is amazing, but I tend to always end up back on stock again. Not sure what it is, but it's solid as a rock, and I know exactly how it works and what it does. No surprises. I feel safe using it, so I guess that's why? Xposed has also changed the way I use ROMs. No longer do I have to flash ROMs if I want a weird feature, I just install a module. I feel like I don't have to flash anything these days, except for when I want a different environment/UI.
In not that tired of Sony's UI quite yet (but I'm slowly getting there), but I'll probably migrate to the GPe full time down the road. BUT, official 4.4 is on its way, so it'll be really exciting to see how it'll be.

Im back running stock UI as well (own rom with Dogg tweaks), and am more or less happy with it.
Cant wait for 4.4 stock (not here today yet)
I had a Nexus 7 and I ran AOKP, I had an Nexus 4 and I ran AOKP, I had a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and I ran CyanogenMod. Today I switched to Sony Xperia Z Ultra and I don't want to switch to AOSP. It never happened before, but I feel like Stock ROM is good
my galaxy tab is always on another rom, after that i had asus padfone, which had no development at all. and z ultra makes me not want to change to another rom at all. loving the stock, dunno why. I'm still on 4.2 and for me it's pretty smooth and fluid already i dont even need to upgrade.
Recently get an OTA for 4.3, but there's no way to root it in a simple way. tempting to root using jackie's way or flashing monx but im still too lazy to do it, still enjoyin my current 4.2 haha

I'm with you too dude. For me it's close enough to stock not to piss me off, their skin is simple and black base (better for battery), and I like some of the bloatware too.
I have deleted a lot, but that's another thing I like, I was able to delete or freeze most of what I didn't want without needing root. On touchwizz practically nothing could be deleted without root.
For me, Sony have worked it really well, bugs aside, and 290 is perfect IMHO except bluetooth.
I love cm, don't get me wrong, I just don't need it as much with Sony as I did with Samsung.

Same here, actually i'm still on 4.2.2. Still amazed with stock rom, looks good and stays smooth and fast. I can endless opening apps, not any hick up. OOM works unnoticed, and don't need to restart device. On my old LG 3d i changed roms and kernels continously. My son his tab2 flashed a hour after purchase. My Acer A700 running CM10.1 unfortunately my daughter jumped on screen i need to order new screen/digitizer.
But i'm surpised with myself that i'm still on stock and don't want to flash. Only reason for me to flash would be working miracast with my LG 55LM750S.
I'm back on the GPe ROM I was bored yesterday, so the only thing to do when i'm bored is to install or flash something. I'm still amazed how everything is running so smooth and i have still to find a bug. I haven't found a single one. I find it funny that we went from AOSP ROMs that had their fair share of problems, to a AOSP ROM that is perfect like THAT.
I guess i'll keep using GPe for now, but i find some small things to be a little annoying. The volume is rather strange. It can be really quiet on one level, and be really loud on the next one, which makes it very annoying since i have to try to find the sweet spot. The stock ROM is much better at this. The quick toggles are also quite bad. Why do i have to press and HOLD to activate/deactivate a feature? Why can't i just tap a toggle like on CM? One tap on AOSP will open the settings for that feature, and someone at Google should be shot in the face. Well, that's about it really
I agree, been on and off Cm9-10 for years with some stints on Samsung's JB, but these ROMs rock. Only complaint is WIFI is a bit flakey. I don't even have a reason to root.

With my ex Galaxy S3 I went from stock to CM in like 4/6 months, and from there I just wanted to change phone like every day.
I guess I just want this to be my phone for a long time, therefore I'll wait to transform it to see if the stock rom satisfies me long enough to get to the official 4.4.2 update.
Which, I bet will be the last "quick" update.
After that I'm sure we will see 4.5, but at a super slow pace.
Anyway, I need time to install and backup everything to begin trying the GPe, and with a 6yo daughter and a 40days son I really don't have much left... XD

Thanks! I try to keep up with everything but now even Tapatalk is against me (meaning the new interface is fugly as hell).
Anyway, I'm curious, does the GPe support multiple users like on the Nexus 7? It is a fantastic feature as it keeps my daughter within the fence of her few apps...
That may be a feature I'd be interested in...

Hmm, i have no idea. I think it "pops up" when you activate tablet mode. I know that CM supports it though, but since GPe build is strictly made for the ZU, Sony may have removed the feature (i can't prove it though).
Just a question. I've been using my RN4 for cca. 2 months now and I am really impressed with the device.
My question is; Why would you flash an AOSP/CM/whatever ROM, if MIUI works without problems and the device's speed is really great too?
My last device was LG G2, and there was a big difference in terms of speed between Stock LG ROM (all the stupid apps) and CM, but here, I dont know if you would get that much on speed.
Also, that "free" MIUI cloud backup is great, camera with those effects is cool too. I've not encountered a single problem with my stock/not rooted RN4 (Snapdragon).
There are other cool MIUI features, which are not in other AOSP/CM ROMs included. (maybe in RessurectionRemix but still)
What are your thoughts about this one?
Is there a big difference in speed, camera, battery between stock/not rooted and rooted CM/AOSP ROM?
for me its how they handle notification and multitasking. Too agressive with killing apps. No one finger expand. Outdated emoji support. If they fix all that i'd gladly switch back to MIUI
Imho the UI sucks.
Because MIUI just ****s up the material design, doesn't regard the default notification in AOSP, have aggressive memory management and **** cheetah apps disguised as normal system apps.
If I have to give two reasons for using custom ROM:
1. Overall look and feel of material design
2. Notification handling in AOSP Nougat, it is the most
beautiful thing ever happened to Android.
In the end its users choice whether to stick to stock ROM or flash custom ROM depending on their experience.

I use Resurrection ROM 5.8.3 and it is rock-stable. But RR is Lineage-OS-based, not AOSP.
My reason to use a Custom-ROM: with MIUI I can't use my Samsung Gear Fit 2. The Gear-App doesn't start in all MIUI-based ROMs. With AOSP/LineageOS-ROMs no problems.
Miui has lots of bugs that take forever to be fixed.
I think Miui is a way of Xiaomi to spy on users....
MIUI have a lot of spyware in their bloatware apps. Which I don't like.
MIUI is like pre-GraceUX Touchwiz.
Lots of interesting features but not polished, and there's no consistency across the whole UI.
For the free cloud backup, Google's Drive and Photos are better in my opinion, you can sync your contacts and messages as well.
As for the camera, I'm happy with the Camera2API on AOSP ROMs.
Because if you also have an iPhone you don't need MIUI ?
Kidding aside, there's a lot of reasons why AOSP is better than MIUI and there's a lot of reasons why MIUI is better than AOSP.
I personally prefer AOSP (Slim 7 specifically) because of it's speed and general lack of complications.
I don't like being asked by the SMS app if I'd like to send my SMSs to the Xiaomi servers, or my pictures, or every time I'd use some app that used the internet to be forced to accept some privacy policy.
I want Android, clean, no bull$$1t. That's where Slim won my heart. I tried other AOSP ROMs as well but I got disappointed with the lack of responsiveness caused by features that should make your life easier but the phone slower. Also all ROMs using the substratum theme engine have an easily perceived delay in operation.
If you'd like to stick with MIUI, then go for the nougat development version. The increase in responsiveness is considerable compared to the stable version based on marshmallow.
Nonetheless, if you want the same security as on an iPhone or more expensive Android phones, do not unlock your bootloader at all. The simple fact that your bootloader is locked will render your device useless to a thief. Although he may not know that before he steals it...
