[Q] MyDOG ateMY charger...just the$80 piece! - Sony Tablet S

So my dog ate my charger a few days back, and just the piece that clips in to the tablet s charge port. The charger is $80 on amazon and $70-110 many other sites. They just don't have chargers that aren't with a tablet a as well online. There are no used chargers for a tablet a on craigslist lol I wish....$5 fresh off the truck . So as I don't want to resort to buying another charger I tried utilizing the tablet s mini USB port on the side near the memory card slot with a mini USB regular android charger and also checked if it could and would work in the forums and it did not....
So my question is can I take those two wires (black and white) in the pic and kinda lay them anywhere specific in the charge port on my tablet s or cut the back and place them anywhere special? Any tech savvy advice would Be helpful or a plain no so I have to suck it up an go buy one although I'm just missing that magical diamond played $80 tip that make it unique to Sony . Arghhhhhghhg

You can use any usb charger with at least 1-1.5mAh output! I recommend the EP850 for Xperia phones :good:

You can not charge a Sony Tablet S via its USB port.

I thought he was talking about the Xperia tablet

If you are looking at the tablet face up. It is the first and third gold squares that do the charging.

Actually, it is the second and third.

Sorry if I was wrong. I left my charger attatched for a very a long time and noticed build up on those two I mentioned. Like you would see on a car battery. I figured those would be it. Not very smart for sony to put it on 2nd and 3rd, Ive noticed the clips tend to bend on the charger easily. Sorry again.

Thanks for that, I didn't see that printed on the back of the charger! My dog did a similar thing last summer, the end completely vanished. Didn't bother getting a new one at the time (about £20) and have just realised that the price has sky rocketed.
I bought a used SGPDS1 cradle on ebay for £20 and intend to modify it to become my new charger
To take it apart, the rear stand slides up fully with a firm push (careful, there are two silver plastic tabs to gently unclick underneath)
There are then 4 screws to undo and a plastic cover comes off the back of the main cradle to expose the wiring loom.
I want to connect a fly lead to the wiring loom and attach my end-less charger to it.
Before I do this, can a kind soul confirm that the outer two contacts are not connected? Inside the cradle, all the wires are connected, and the middle white connection breaks out into two connections
I am guessing the white wires are positive (connection 2 from left) and the black negative.
I have attached a few photos.
TIA
Mark

After having procured a new charger, I have found that the first pin (from the cable end) is connected to the centre wire and the second pin is connected to the outer cable.
This charges the tablet perfectly when I touch the pads on the bottom of the tablet with the bare wires!

He then started an application on his phone and he had video output.
Are these the right cables and where can I find this cab?

Thanks! Very fast response! So will this work with the touch pro 2 too or should I get the normal tv out cable?

there are two webs that i can give you
I dont think the iPhone cable will work because HTC extUSB has double sided terminal for differ function. And the 3.5mm jack maybe is for audio-in for external sound system.
(Here is unboxed, as free gift + canon selphy CP760 + 4gb class6 mSD when i bought this device -kind of promotion )

Works like a charm!
No need to brake off the 4th pin
So after about an hour of searching, I came to the conclusion that the only way possible at the moment, unless I missed something, was to buy a video out cable or the whole removing the 4th pin from the mini-usb scenario which I was not ready to do. So after reading many... many post I figured , if the only thing stopping me from using a 3.5mm video out cable is fact that the 4th pin is making contact than why can't I just put something in there to stop it from making contact instead of removing it. Long story short I stuck a piece of duck tape on top of the 4th pin and vuale it worked!!!!! I included some pictures .

I cut the blue wire and it worked on my TP2 also. This trick should be stickied in the Rhodium section/.
I bought the OEM tv out cable from ebay for around $16, shipping included.
non-OEM ones are even cheaper, but I did not want to plug in a non-oem one and risk shorting the pins. Normally I don't care about these kind of stuff and buy the aftermarket one but somehow this time I didn't have the courage

Alternative to spare battery ?

Just searching around for a spare battery and found this

I think it is really useful since you can charge your phone(1,2 or 3 times) ,psp, gameboy or even ipad and laptop depending on the model you buy.
i tought to share it with the rest of you.
I agree these pocket chargers are really great, i use one myself, or rather i did use one for my HTC Diamond. The problem with SE X10 is that it accept very few chargers so i just want to raise everyones attention before going out and buying one, make sure it will work with the phone! Also, SE has got their own pocket chargers that most certain should work. Dont know anything about effectivity or pricing. But, read before you buy.

This has been discussed before. The reason is that the X10 requires the USB data pins (D+/D-) shorted. This is either done at the adapter side or on the USB cable itself. You can find these "Charge-only" micro USB cables on ebay.
So i posted this yesterday but due to the database error they are gone.
So i got the usb battery pack and tried it:
the result is great.
Charges the phone in 2 hours, they provided a cable that charges the X10 .
Build quality is also great.
And it fits my pocket.
I'm using self made battery pack for charging everything powered by USB - cost is about 2$
all you need is:
1. buy $2 4xAA battery holder
2. get USB connector with female plug (buy or rip off from old pc USB .
3. solder the usb + and - to holder outputs
4. for X10 to work solder usb data - and data+ lines with each other (like other chargers do - see pinouts.ru link for reference)
5. profit!!!
4xAA rechargeable cells in series circuit (which is in battery holder) produce 4.8V output combined - so you dont have to convert the voltages, just solder the output
the capacity is the same as single battery - so if 4 x AA 2300mAh batteries are used you have about 2300mAh 4.8V output
pinouts.ru:
"Supplied voltage by a host or a powered hub ports is between 4.75 V and 5.25 V. "
this guy does that, with a littie bit more play on fitting it to can, painting it etc:
(i cannot post external links - search for "Build a 4 x AA USB Altoids Battery" on instructables.com)
one thing to be aware - this pack does not have any electronics to shut it off. so if you have empty battery pack and some of power in your phone, you'll see that this pack actually drains the power from phone . so, control the situation every 15 minutes, or write and send me a suitable Tasker script ("if the phone is charging and the battery level is falling, play a sound ")
anyway this pack helped me a lot on hiking trips, my X10 could record GPS track :]
Since I do not understand much of this I think I will stick with my usbbattery.

Nice! I've been thinking of DIYing a backup battery myself. 9V battery and some resistors should do the trick
Maybe even something like this..

Yeah, I've got one. It does what it says but a word of warning, it sits loosely when connected to the transformer. It's very handy though as I don't have a dock and so far everything I've plugged into it works well.
I just got mine today (actually 30mins ago).
Already taken it apart and are going to modify it. I dont fancy having 1dm extra height on my tablet, especially not on the underside. (edit: ok I lied, its actually only 8.3cm..... only...)
And yes, it sits quite loosely.
Im going to post a guide if my mod is successful. I am also going to try and add a charger port on it.

I don't know if it would be possible but how about adding another usb port. This would save using a USB hub to connect more than one peripheral to the transformer.

Simply adding another usb port isnt possible, you still need the hub control chip.
That would be possible to do but would require you to make a new 'case' for the adapter, and it would get quite big (relatively).

Yes, you can. I tried with my set (from Acer Aspire PC) and it worked without any problems.
You can find them on ebay. Relatively expensive though.

seller is 'buyspry'
I really miss a right-click feature when using a mouse while remote controlling a PC :/... not that that has anything to do with the adapter though.
Im not sure I should post my guide on how to add a cable to the adapter... It wasnt my best day and it turned out quite disasterous I somehow managed to kill 2 solder points so had to find alternative source lol
And I gave up on the charging port... I couldnt for the life of me figure out which pins is for charging. The ones I thought (by comparing to the original charger cable) turned out to just short-circut the TF

I also like theyve added touchpad feature rather than just the "click on the item you want to open".

The pins used for the USB adapter isnt even present in the default sync/charging cable, unless youre DAMN good at soldering and can solder cables on pins the size of 0.01mm with 0.01mm spacing.

Micro USB Charger Cable that fits

I am looking for a Micro USB Charger cable that actually fits. I have numerous charger cables but the head on all the cables I have are a little too fat. The door that protects the port is constantly in the way. I have included a picture of it.
Anyone find some cheap cables that I can buy that mimic what I got with my tablet?

One of them is a logitech. The other is just a generic cable. I will check out monoprice and a few others. I had a bunch of leftover cables and I may need to shop around to find one.
EDIT: Found a Monoprice one that fits. I believe that most from monoprice will fit easily. Going to order a couple.
The hats wrong with the one that came bundled with the tablet? No issues here.
I had tryout 4 USB cable, 3 out of it fit nicely. The only not fit is newer Samsung cable which too fat in general.

I never noticed, does the supplied USB cable fit perfectly?
I am using a kindle white cable and the sony supplid plug to charge my Tablet Z, but the cable end is about 1mm too wide. I too will be looking for another cable ideally 1.5 metres long, any ideas? (UK)
Does it matter what brand of cable you use to get the best charge, is the plug amperage the only important factor?
I also find the supplied micro usb cable to be way too short. Would a USB extension cable work?

Yes. Maximum length for a USB 2.0 cable is 16 feet (5 meters); however, for reliability, I would not use a cable length over 10 feet (3 meters).

The brand doesn't really matter so much as knowing it is a good quality cable, you don't want some el cheapo half-assed cable that burns your charging port up.
The stock charger fits perfectly as do my Note 2 and old Moto RAZR cords.
I've recently ordered some Fosmon cords that are 6 feet long and should be here in the next couple of days, hopefully they'll work with the XTZ. I'll post some feedback when I get a chance to test them.

New connector - is there a 90 degree plug/adapter?

So I got upgraded from my Note2 to Note 3 and discover that the charging/data connector is the type that looks like the end that goes into a USB 3 hard drive.
I previously purchased some right-angled Micro-USB adapters for my Note 2 - they look like this, but I'm not sure if this is the actual product I bought.

What I'm looking for is the equivalent type of right-angle adapter but for the USB-3 type of connector used for the Note 3.This way the connection is safer and easier to handle as the cable is not sticking straight out of the bottom, but running parallel to the device's bottom edge - even in landscape mode. If you're using it while you're lying in bed while it's charging you can rest the phone on your belly and not risk tweaking the connection.

Hey - that's it! I followed the link and found some black ones that i purchased. Only thing I'm worried about is the Samsung detecting the different cable and throwing up the nag message or not even charging at full speed. It did this with a different cable I took from one of my portable hard drives. I'll report back if there are problems.
Thanks for tracking that down!
Doh!
If anyone else missed it - if you just need charging, it's totally unecessary. My old micro-usb connectors work just fine plugged into the right-most side of the Note 3's USB3 connector - I discovered this by just plugging one of them in by force of habit and realizing it worked!

The only "nag" is a warning about USB3 file transfers affecting your signal, which happens with the stock cable too. In my Alienware m11x r3 it doesn't charge any faster in the USB3 ports according to the app that reads the charging rate (450mA). The USB2 port that remains powered with the system off actually charges at 1,200mA when not in host mode (off or asleep). It'll do that with a standard microUSB 2.0 B cable too.
Anyway, I prefer the full microUSB 3.0 B connector because it is stronger (distributes force), so I also bought some right-angle adapters from eBay. Mine are black and seem intended for mounting in a dock of some kind due to screw posts. I ordered a left and a right angle one, even though the pics are the same for both. They'll be here soon!
