SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

Have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and reformatted my SanDisk 16GB Class 4 microSDHC that I had for my old phone to utilize with my new powerhouse. Upon taking pictures, I was not thrilled at all with the "Processing" time it was taking between shots. Purchased a SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro microSDHC and did not notice any difference in processing time. Downloaded app "A1 SD Bench" and results from the test were Read speed of 21.48MB/s and write speed of 18.16MB/s. I can't seem to get a definitive answer if the Note 3 is UHS-1 compatible. If it is, I wonder if anyone else has achieved satisfactory results with the pairing of these to or if I am looking at a bunk card.

The processing bit appears when using "Smart Stabilisation". Turn it off and it should be instant. Also, afaik Note 3 doesn't support UHS-1.

I used a UHS-1 64GB with my note 2 and S 3 but unfortunately it died and I'm in the RMA process. But the card does work and at least in Note 2 there was no noticeable lag. Once I get my new card I'll try out that app.

I'll try shutting that part off and see if it makes a difference.

Interesting. I have heard people that have stated that these higher speed cards have worked well in their Note 2s and I wonder why they would work in the Note 2s and not the Note 3.

Ok, but have you tested your speed on your card(s) to find if they were anywhere near the advertised speed? Trying to see if going to Class 10 was overkill.

with a USB 3.0 reader, the Extreme Plus numbers were near or better than the advertised speeds. The Ultra was less than 30MB/s (which is the advertised speed)
Won't much of a difference within the phone since the phone doesn't support UHS-I

Currently running a Sandisk 32gb Class 4 and no issues here as I save my pics into the internal memory and move over if required. Might go class 10 when the 64gb becomes cheaper.

So is the Note 2 UHS-1 compatible? I have seen some crazy speed screen shots on the read/write speed for Note 2s and I am confused as to why.

it will be interesting to see if there is any real world difference between say a 32 gig class 10 sandisk and my recently purchased 32 gig sandisk Extreme pro plus that I bought for my Meenova to go with my N5 , both are still in packaging , but I'm very interested to see any real world difference

well then there was a waste of 40$.............

Many people don't realize that there are no phone that support UHS I, and the advertised speed is mainly for PC, or supported card reader.
I have tested most of these cards with a kingston reader that support UHS I, and the outcome is same or better the advertised speed.

I have a 32gb class 10 sandisk in my n9005 and picture processing/writing happens instantly

I have a Lexar 64gb. All i ever got for speed was in the low 20's as well. The packaging says 90 mb/s and 600x but as mentioned already, that would only happen in the Lexar laboratory. I just got the card so I wouldn't have to be constantly moving the pic/videos to my computer

MicroSD Card Recommendation

Although 99.999999999999999% of the MicroSD Cards which are 32GB are Class 2, I noted that the 16GB which Verizon stocked in the Rezound is a Class 4. I suspect that means we should go no lower than Class 4.
Anyone know of a good and legitimate 32GB SD card which is Class 4 or even better? I note that Class 6 and Class 10 all tend to be brands I have never heard of (other than 1 by PNY).
Recommendations are appreciated.
Sandisk has a class 4 32gb micro on Amazon for $37. I just ordered mine, and it should be here in a few days. I'll let you know what I think of it when it gets here.
Anything faster?
Anyone successfully use a Class 6 or 10 that was NOT a fake and actually worked close to speed?
This is a Class 10 but I don't want to guinea pig it

Yeah, the only real difference is the transfer time. If you're swapping a lot of data on a daily basis (like copies of your BluRay movies), then a higher class rating makes it go faster, but doesn't have any other effect on the performance of the phone, to my knowledge.

JD, there's a thread elsewhere on xda that talks about card speeds and basically recommends that the sweet spot is a 32g class 4 card. I have 3 of 'em (all bought at various sales just under $40). One is in my Rezound; one is in my tablet, and one is kept synced to the one in my phone via Microsoft Synctoy....because all cards ultimately fail.
i was reading somehwere that this may affect the speed of how videos write to the card if you save to card..is that true?
i'm gonna get a 32 gig as well, but should i go for class 4 or 6?

That's a valid concern. I don't know the bitrate at which the camera records the various formats that it is capable of, but I'd say that a Class 4 is a safe bet in any case.
For a smartphone doing HD recording you want "atleast" a 4. Anything slower might get stuck in swapping. Personally I think it's one of those things with go with what you can afford/feel comfortable with. Though I'm also using a class 10 16GB since I can't stand being bogged down on transfers. I mean honestly, it's an LTE phone, not an HD camera. I don't need a 32gb, I stream everything.
Play back is a different story, a class 2 32gb works fine as long as the app does proper buffering. Though it will always load faster with a faster SD card.

Confusion on SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC cards

SDSDQUA-064G-A11A vs. SDSDQUA-064G-U46A. Both are 64GB. Supposedly, A11A is an American version of the card.
There are a two more issues though.
1. Galaxy Note's compatibility with UHS-I speeds. I heard it's not compatible, and Samsung does not list Note as compatible either. So whether you get a class 6 or class 10 card makes no difference in performance.
2. There's a info on ebay about these cards not working on Android phones after upgrade to ICS. Could anyone confirm this for Note.

IIRC there's no such thing as UHS compatibility. Is a rating just like Class X. I suppose your throughput limit could be lower than that of the card, but its both unlikely, and it wouldn't be a compatibility issue. It would just be a bottleneck (still, not a bad bottleneck to have). And SD cards are like controlling girlfriends...they stick with you through multiple states, multiple phone numbers, and you practically have to get a restraining order on em to get em gone.
I've never heard of anyone lifetime writing out a nand device before outside of an enterprise load (ssd)..a 6 year old crappy flash drive, yea....but I think that has more to do with quality, and for the most part, higher speeds (above class 10 speeds) = higher quality.
Have a Class 6 working just fine on my GNote running ICS.
I have both these cards; the class 6 and class 10. Class 6 is designated "mobile" on the card while Class 10 does not say it on the card. Either way, both work perfectly on ICS. Just make sure to let the phone format the drive, not your Window's PC. (FYI, Windows will try to format to NTFS which is not recognizable by our phones. Only FAT32 works).
I google and only fail to identify class 6 and 10 microsdxc card. How to differentiate between those two? What i notice from images there got symbol '1' inside the big 'U'.

You do know that each class number relates to the WRITE speed in MB/s. So a class 4 writes at 4MB/sec, Class 6 is 6MB/s and so on and so fourth.

Yes, but thats the "sequential" speed. Important for transferring large files or taking hd video.
I am interested in the random write speed... this is more important in normal daily operations.
Some people have claimed that the class 6 is better than the class 10 for random.

Some one will have to run some tests to see the random speeds in the newer sandisk cards
Galaxy Note @ mobile
Speed class is NOT for sequentail write speed, but mor e like a random write speed of certain size of data. For example, Class 10 test 25 random write of 4MB size file. Within the 4MB, it is a sequntial write of 512K or smaller data chunk. Class 10 rating need to garannted for each of the 4MB, the write speed is 10MB/s or above.
Have that said, you can have a SD/uSD card that has 25MB/s+ or more sequential write speed but fail Class 10 test due to mis-align data boundary. (Garbage collection happening). Also, Class speed is only garanteed for a non-aged, newly formatted card. As flash memory wear out, they become slower. Also if there was flamented data in the card prior to speed class type of write, it can be significantly slower than the Class speed rating too.
Now, tt really doesn't means much if what you write to it is music or photos or files, something with a known size before the write happened. Because size is known, the write will almost always be purely sequenctial. When the size of the file is unknown, in in shooting a video, that is where class speed come to play. It is what garrannted minmum write speed, so that incoming data won't get drop.
I got a Ultra 64gb micoHDXC Sandisk in my note, running great. I have about 4 gigs left, lots of movies. Class 10

32gb microSDHC

Anyone here use a 32gb microSDHC in their Rezound? If so, is the performance just as good as what came with the phone? Also, any experience with Class 10 vs something slower? I'm pretty sure that would only really affect video but I assume the one they packaged with the phone was worthwhile.
Anyway, I saw Amazon has a Class 4 (slow) 32gb for $19 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056TYX8U) and figured I might grab it so I can store more music on my phone.

Feel free to move. (whomever)
i invested in a class 10 32gig'er and i would not have it anyother way...especially if you plan on using the HD Cam mod that doesnt compress pictures...absolutely beautiful pics and no lag between snapshots...as far as the video...ive recorded several 720p videos and they look pretty good as well, plus youll have hours and hours of video with even a few gigs...i have about 20gigs of music and some movies and tons of ruu and roms...with the 8gb that are left i can still record 4 hours of 720 p video...i prefer 720p to the 1080p option because 1080p records at 20 fps vs 30 fps for 720p, id much rather have smooth video...i also prefer the lower megapixel settings than the full 8 just because no ever needs to print a picture the size of a billboard...but none-the-less i couldnt imagine my rezound with out one, infact the only thing that kept me from buying a class 6 64 gig card was the difference in speed, it is so much more important than the size

I got a class 10 32GB on one of the amazon.com lightning deals one time for $31. It's blazing fast. Can't speak to slower ones. I used a class 6 16GB before that, which I loved.
To tell you the truth; I pretty much filled up my 32g. Got a 64g in it now.

The speed class you choose should depend on how you plan to use the storage. If you're going to be writing/reading data constantly, then you'll benefit from a proper class 10 mSDHC. If you plan on filling it up once and adding to it occasionally, then a class 4 or 6 would be fine, IMO.
I have two of these and enjoy the consistent 18MB/s read and 15MB/s write speed: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211558
Does it make the phone itself faster during normal use (compared to a slower card), probably not. However, it makes transferring roms, nandroids and music/video much more bearable. In the end, it's up to you and your usage style to decide if the higher speed cards will be of benefit.
More info on the definition of SD speed class specifications can be read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
If your budget will allow, go for a class 10. Just in case you need to transfer some big file in the future.

I have both the 64 GB Sandisk Extreme Plus and the 64 GB Samsung Pro. The only 633x card I don't have is the Lexar.
The Sandisk Extreme Plus is a bit quicker on reads (65MB/s) but a bit slower on writes (30MB/s)
The Samsung comes in at 50MB/s, sometimes getting up to 60MB/s on reads and consistently gets +40MB/s on writes, the quickest I've seen is about 45MB/s
These figures were tested using A1SD bench in phone, (Z2 seems to have an excellent SD card controller) these cards go much faster using a proper USB3 converter into a computer. The Samsung sustains a steady 70MB/s write speed and the Sandisk comes in at about 60MB/s write when tested in Windows 8.1
The Ultra is definitely a large step below, and the 128GB Ultra card is even slower.
With that said, I like the Samsung Pro and it's what I use in my device.

The Ultra is definitely a large step below, and the 128GB Ultra card is even slower.
With that said, I like the Samsung Pro and it's what I use in my device.

My Sandisk 64GB EP microSD just failed and I had to sent it back for warranty. I personally wouldn't recommend those cards.

Thanks. Going to order EVO Pro. :good: I just wanted to know how it fairs in our Z2, since S5 users were getting lower speeds than the ones you mentioned.

It seems as though the S5 (and definitely the S4 before it) suffers from a slower SD memory controller. I was actually surprised the Z2 could pull off the numbers it did, they are very fast speeds. I will say on the S5, if they're getting lower numbers, it's not because it's memory card limited. Both the Sandisk Extreme Plus and Samsung Pro UHS-1 cards are excellent and you really can't make a bad decision.

I got mine here:
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDX...Android-Micro-SD-(SDXC)-Class-10-UHS-1-30MB_s
I didn't manage to find a lower price for it in UK...
even though I'm not in UK it arrived in 5 working days...so I think in UK it's delivery times are around 1-2 working days.
intersecting
I was thinking about the Sandisk Extreme Plus 64 GB and Sandisk Ultra 128 GB but since I'm not using that much apps as I did on my 64 GB iPhone I decided to get the Extreme Plus also because of the huge difference in read/write speeds compared to the Ultra.
I didn't experienced any problems with the card. The only disadvantage is that I cannot use it in my tiny thumb drive since it only supports microSDHC but in fact I never needed it yet since Android supports MSC and with the tiny USB-microUSB cable that came with the SWR10 SmartBand everything is fine

There is Sandisk Ultra 128GB and Extreme 64GB and Extreme Plus 64GB. I believe the card reader on z2 should not support the Extreme Plus speed(80MB/s read & write) so you just need to get an Extreme 64GB(40MB/s read & write). The Ultra ver should be around 40MB/s read with only 10MB/s write.
Basically, the read speed on z2 on Ultra/Ext/ExtP is just about the same, the huge different is only at write speed. If budget isn't a concern and think about future upgrade like z3/z4 probably would support higher speed, you can just get the Extreme Plus.
How do you all use it?.....fat32 or is it working with ntfs?

Exfat is great, mines a 64gb Samsung evo. But you wont be able to see it in certain ROMS.
The ones that I tested were:
-CM11 Sabermod
-PA Sabermod
-CrDroid
-Vanir? (I think.)
All the rest work fine with it (for me) including stock and stock based ROM's.
Ok thanks for the info, right now I'm with stock rom and working fine.

I have the Sandisk Extreme Plus 64GB, the Ultra 128GB and Samsung Pro 64GB. Benched all three and the Ultra is definitely the slowest by a good margin. The Sandisk Extreme Plus was slightly quicker on reads than the Samsung (50Mbps read / 40 Mbps write) , but the Samsung was a bit quicker on writes (45Mbps read / 45 Mbps write). The Samsung seemed to be more consistent as well. This was using A1 SD Bench. Not going to swap out cards and run them all again so you'll just have to take my word for it.

[Q] Good SD card for S3

Hi,
Could you recommend me a good SD card for Samsung Galaxy S3 with high speed and low to average price. Preferable capacity is 16 to 32GB.
Also I want to see your opinion on these 3 brands; SanDisk, Samsung and Kingston
Thanks!

I can report the same. I've got a 16GB SanDisk Ultra microSD for about 1 and a half years.
If you buy SDs, look for those Class 10 ones. Those are the fast ones. Don't use SDs below Class 6, as they reduce the whole performance of your phone.
Greetings

Thank you arj8 and Leevee33.
I would like to see some posts about the other brands, because Sandisk is a little bit expensive. I am thinking on buying this one; MicroSDHC 16GB EVO Memory Card (Sorry I am a new user, so I cannot post any links)
Thanks!

I use a SanDisk ultra. So far I'm pleased with it even though I broke it once but I think that was due to the fact that I rooted the tablet and switched the external memory with the sd card.

I use a Samsung, and I like it for me is so good. I have this card more than 2 years but he has 8Gb
Thank you guys.
I will probably buy the Samsung brand. They have such a nice performance and actually they are not very expensive.
Feel free to leave some other opinions and who knows, you could change my mind.

I have a class 4 Kingmax 32GB and I noticed that the transfer speeds are ~10 Mb/s which I feel are rather slow. Can you guys share what size and brand you are using and an average transfer speed?

Yeah, it is way too slow. Class 4 SD crads are too slow for phones (for example; S3). You should look for higher class, like class 10. I am thinking of buying this card; http://www.samsung.com/us/photography/digital-cameras-accessories/MB-MP16DA/AM which has up to 48mb/s read/write. Moreover, Samsung cards are very cheap in my country.
However, I heard bad things about this brand, so I suggest you buy Sandisk Ultra. Sandisk is something like the Iphone of the SD cards. They have really good performance, but the price is without any comment.
