[Q] Good SD card for S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Could you recommend me a good SD card for Samsung Galaxy S3 with high speed and low to average price. Preferable capacity is 16 to 32GB.
Also I want to see your opinion on these 3 brands; SanDisk, Samsung and Kingston
Thanks!

I can report the same. I've got a 16GB SanDisk Ultra microSD for about 1 and a half years.
If you buy SDs, look for those Class 10 ones. Those are the fast ones. Don't use SDs below Class 6, as they reduce the whole performance of your phone.
Greetings

Thank you arj8 and Leevee33.
I would like to see some posts about the other brands, because Sandisk is a little bit expensive. I am thinking on buying this one; MicroSDHC 16GB EVO Memory Card (Sorry I am a new user, so I cannot post any links)
Thanks!

I use a SanDisk ultra. So far I'm pleased with it even though I broke it once but I think that was due to the fact that I rooted the tablet and switched the external memory with the sd card.

I use a Samsung, and I like it for me is so good. I have this card more than 2 years but he has 8Gb

Thank you guys.
I will probably buy the Samsung brand. They have such a nice performance and actually they are not very expensive.
Feel free to leave some other opinions and who knows, you could change my mind.

I have a class 4 Kingmax 32GB and I noticed that the transfer speeds are ~10 Mb/s which I feel are rather slow. Can you guys share what size and brand you are using and an average transfer speed?

Yeah, it is way too slow. Class 4 SD crads are too slow for phones (for example; S3). You should look for higher class, like class 10. I am thinking of buying this card; http://www.samsung.com/us/photography/digital-cameras-accessories/MB-MP16DA/AM which has up to 48mb/s read/write. Moreover, Samsung cards are very cheap in my country.
However, I heard bad things about this brand, so I suggest you buy Sandisk Ultra. Sandisk is something like the Iphone of the SD cards. They have really good performance, but the price is without any comment.

Is a class 6 microSD card worth it?

I currently have a stock 8GB class 2 in the phone and i'm thinking of getting a class 6. I'm pretty much using 7 out of 8GB so i can manage it but it's getting rather close.
The 16GB one would cost me almost 60€ and that's a lot! The 8GB one would be only about 19€.
I didn't try ebay, maybe i could find something there. But given the price difference i think i'll stick with 8GB, what do you think?
The main reason i post here is to ask if there's going to be a NOTICEABLE difference in opening a gallery full of pictures, and picture saving time after taking a shot with the camera?
The HD recording is just a plus here, i just want the galery/shots taking to be faster. Anyone with experience?
thanks
EDIT: ok i've found this one on ebay and it has a USB reader so that i can still use my class 2 8gb as a usb stick so that's a money saver.
I've never had any experience with this company "Team", are their cards any good?
I bought a Kingston 16GB class 10
Not a big deal, almost the same performance!

Well I bought it from eshop.gr and paid it 99 euros, it's 100% original but the phone itself can't handle faster chips, the difference is not that much, you might consider buying a 4 class which is by far cheaper!
i think i'll just get a class 6 8gb for 20$ and stick with that, that way i'll just use my old class 2 8gb in an adapter as a memory stick

Configure "app to SD" then you will notice the difference. For normal use, class 2 is more than enough.

for normal use, it sucks! i need to wait at least one minute for the gallery to open because of all my photos, isn't that because of a slow SD card? correct me if i'm wrong...
Be carefull when buying SD cards from Ebay. I bought an 8GB class 6 card once (no brand, from Hong Kong) and it turned out it's not really class 6 at all, more like class 2 or 4 (low transfer speeds). The class 6 card that came with my X10 is a true class 6 card (transfer speed of 6 MB/s).
I'm not saying all SD cards on Ebay are fake, but alot probably are (fake as in not the class they advertise).
heh, i already ordered one
it's from a top rated seller so i hope it'll be ok
thanks for the heads up
I have a class 6 16 gig, i did have a class 4 8 gig and i could not play need for speed as the game would freeze. now the game plays no problem with the class 6 card.
what does an SD card have anything to do with it?

I just wanted to say i got an 8gb class 6 and i can really see the difference, especially in camera (the time to save a picture is much much faster) and in opening the gallery, so i'm pleased with it. I'm using the old card in a card reader as a stick...
Ps. I don't use apps2ssd so i don't know the diff there first hand, anyhu i reccommens class 6

[Q] 32 GB SDHC card for Galaxy Ace

Hello everyone.
Do any of you use a 32GB sized SDHC card in your Ace? I know it's supposed to support it, but I'd love to hear your experiences.
BTW: Which brand of SDHC cards do you recommend? I'm planning to buy a class 10 card with at least 16GB space this week, and I'd appreciate your input.

I would prioritise Class rating over size anytime especially when you talk about capacity over 8GB.
I prefer Sandisk for personal reasons.

Yeah, I wrote in my OP, that I'm gonna buy a class 10, as high read/write speeds are what I'm after, followed by a decent size(at least 8GB).

SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC

Have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and reformatted my SanDisk 16GB Class 4 microSDHC that I had for my old phone to utilize with my new powerhouse. Upon taking pictures, I was not thrilled at all with the "Processing" time it was taking between shots. Purchased a SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro microSDHC and did not notice any difference in processing time. Downloaded app "A1 SD Bench" and results from the test were Read speed of 21.48MB/s and write speed of 18.16MB/s. I can't seem to get a definitive answer if the Note 3 is UHS-1 compatible. If it is, I wonder if anyone else has achieved satisfactory results with the pairing of these to or if I am looking at a bunk card.
The processing bit appears when using "Smart Stabilisation". Turn it off and it should be instant. Also, afaik Note 3 doesn't support UHS-1.
I used a UHS-1 64GB with my note 2 and S 3 but unfortunately it died and I'm in the RMA process. But the card does work and at least in Note 2 there was no noticeable lag. Once I get my new card I'll try out that app.

Interesting. I have heard people that have stated that these higher speed cards have worked well in their Note 2s and I wonder why they would work in the Note 2s and not the Note 3.

Ok, but have you tested your speed on your card(s) to find if they were anywhere near the advertised speed? Trying to see if going to Class 10 was overkill.

with a USB 3.0 reader, the Extreme Plus numbers were near or better than the advertised speeds. The Ultra was less than 30MB/s (which is the advertised speed)
Won't much of a difference within the phone since the phone doesn't support UHS-I
Currently running a Sandisk 32gb Class 4 and no issues here as I save my pics into the internal memory and move over if required. Might go class 10 when the 64gb becomes cheaper.

Many people don't realize that there are no phone that support UHS I, and the advertised speed is mainly for PC, or supported card reader.
I have tested most of these cards with a kingston reader that support UHS I, and the outcome is same or better the advertised speed.

I have a Lexar 64gb. All i ever got for speed was in the low 20's as well. The packaging says 90 mb/s and 600x but as mentioned already, that would only happen in the Lexar laboratory. I just got the card so I wouldn't have to be constantly moving the pic/videos to my computer

Which microSD card to get: Sandisk or Samsung?

Hey everybody ...
Quick question: which is better ... SanDisk Ultra 128GB or the Samsung 128GB EVO?
I've been deciding for days, but I still can't make up my mind.
I want something that lasts long and is fast.
Samsung is samsung, especially with the tablet ... and sandisk is also reputable but has that 10 year warranty.
Please help. Thanks!

I would go with the Samsung since there have been reports lately of bad SanDisk cards. Realize though that one has sold millions more units than the other so the likelihood of failure is greater for SanDisk anyway.
If you want the fastest possible though you may want to step down to 64gb card and get one with the highest write rating like a SanDisk Extreme Pro.
The experiences vary. I've never had a single Sandisk card break, out of the 40ish Ive used since 2001.
I've had 4 Samsung cards (2x32 2x64) and they all broke in 4 months.
My 128GB Sandisk is still doing great.

I think I really need the 128 gb size. I never read comics before, and the note pro got me into it ... so now I have like 15gb of comics. lol. Plus, then I'm gonna add vids and music. So it might be prudent for me to just fork out the money for a bigger card.
And the other thing ... I kinda wana go with samsung too but sandisk has a brilliant 10 yr warranty!. Samsung has like a 2 year. So that's confusing.
Everything I've seen says the tablet can only utilize 64gb cards or smaller...? Would love to buy a 128gb if that will work though, can anyone confirm?

The card size listed in the specs is based upon what is, at that moment, available on the public market. At the time of the release of the NotePro, 64GB was the largest MicroSD size available. This does not in any way refer to an actual size limit of the cards, it's just that Samsung had no means to see if a 128GB card worked or no, as they didn't exist outside Sandisk's lab.
128GB works as normal, I've been using one for months. (Sandisk).
In fact, the 128GB works fine even on something as old as an S3.

Best sd card?

I'm looking in ordering one of these now.
Evo+ is 1€ cheaper than the Evo.
While the Pro is another 20€ more expensive than the Evo.
I guess the Evo's series is more than good enough.
But looking at the specs it looks like the Evo+ is significantly faster than the normal Evo, while being slightly cheaper.
Am I overlooking some important details?
Also the sandisks are alot cheaper for the same speeds.
Could someone explain me what to look out for when buying these kinda things?
I bougth the Samsung MicroSDHC 32GB PRO
It works fast and fine.
I realy recommend the sd-card.
